L-asparagine monohydrate (LAM), a new amino acid single crystal, was grown by slow evaporation solution technique (SEST) as well as by recently invented Sankaranarayanan–Ramasamy (SR) method in aqueous medium. Using SR method, LAM single crystal of diameter ∼18 mm and length ∼52 mm was grown for the first time. The growth conditions were optimized and the maximum growth rate of 1.0 mm per day was observed for the SR crystal. The crystal structure was confirmed by powder XRD. The crystalline perfection was assessed by high resolution XRD and etching studies and found that the quality of the SR crystal is better than the SEST crystal. The UV–vis–NIR spectroscopic study revealed that the SR crystal has good optical transparency than that of SEST crystal. The relative second harmonic generation efficiency was measured and found to be ∼0.35 times to that of KDP. The laser damage threshold (LDT) was measured and found that the SR crystal has higher LDT value (5.76 GW cm−2) than SEST crystal (4.75 GW cm−2). The Vickers’s microhardness and dielectric studies were also carried out and discussed.  相似文献

l-tyrosine hydrobromide (l-THB) a semi organic nonlinear optical material with molecular formula C9H12NO3Br has been synthesized at ambient temperature. Spectral, thermal and optical techniques have been employed to characterize the new material. The solubility of l-THB at varying temperatures was determined in different concentrations of hydrobromic acid. Bulk single crystals of size 15×7×4 mm3 of l-THB were grown by slow evaporation method at constant temperature. Powder X-ray diffraction pattern of the grown l-THB has been indexed. Functional groups present in the sample were identified by FTIR spectral analysis. Chemical composition of the synthesized material was confirmed by carrying out CHN analysis. Thermal stability of l-THB was determined from TGA/DTA and DSC response curves. Mechanical hardness of the grown crystal l-THB was determined and Vickers hardness number was calculated. The Kurtz powder second harmonic generation test shows that the compound is a potential candidate for optical second harmonic generation. The optical transparency range and the lower cut-off of UV transmission were identified from the recorded UV-vis spectrum of l-THB. The optical energy gap of l-THB is 3 eV.  相似文献

Single crystals of non‐linear optical (NLO) LAHClBr were grown by slow evaporation technique from its aqueous solution. Good optical quality crystals having dimensions up to 12 × 9 × 7 mm3 were obtained. The lattice parameters and morphology for the grown crystals were determined using single crystal XRD. The crystals were characterized by FT‐Raman, optical absorption, thermal (DTA and TGA) and dielectric studies. LAHClBr was found to be thermally stable up to 124.3°C. A new organic compound of bis-glycine maleate was synthesized in the alkaline medium of 10% ammonium hydroxide solution. The bulk single crystals of Bis-Glycine Maleate (BGM) have been grown by slow cooling method. The grown crystals were characterized by employing single crystal and powder X-ray diffraction, Fourier transform infrared, optical absorption spectral studies and thermo gravimetric analysis. The microhardness studies confirmed that the BGM has a fairly high Vicker’s hardness number value (41 kg mm−2) in comparison to other organic NLO crystals. Second harmonic generation efficiency of the crystal measured by Kurtz–Perry powder method using Nd:YAG laser is found to be comparable to that of potassium dihydrogen phosphate (KDP). Frequency dependent dielectric studies were carried out along the major growth axis.  相似文献

Growth of good optical quality single crystals of l-arginine diiodate (abbreviated as LADI), a semiorganic nonlinear optical (NLO) material is reported. Crystals of dimension up to were obtained from its aqueous solution by slow solvent evaporation technique. The crystals were characterized by single crystal XRD, FTIR, optical absorption spectrum, microhardness, dielectric and photoconductivity studies. The solubility, metastable zone width and nucleation parameters of organic nonlinear optical material L-tartaric acid–nicotinamide (LTN) have been determined. The crystals of LTN are grown by the slow cooling method. The grown crystals are morphologically interpreted. The crystalline powder of the grown crystals has been examined by X-ray diffraction and thermogravimetric analysis. The different modes of vibrations present in the crystal are identified by the Fourier infrared spectroscopy analysis. The powder SHG efficiency of LTN is comparable with that of KDP.  相似文献

As described by Kutoglu (1976 [16]), single crystals of As4S4 (II) phase have been grown using a new two-step synthesis that drastically increases the reproducibility that is attainable in synthetic experiments. First, through photo-induced phase transformation, pararealgar powder is prepared as a precursor instead of AsS melt. Then it is dissolved and recrystallized from CS2 solvent. Results show that single crystals of the As4S4 (II) phase were obtained reproducibly through the dissolution–recrystallization process. Single crystals of As4S4 (II) obtained using this method were translucent and showed a uniform yellow-orange color. The crystal exhibits a platelet-like shape as a thin film with well-developed faces (0 1 0) and (0 1¯ 0). The grown crystals are as large as 0.50×0.50×0.01 mm. They were characterized using powder and single crystal X-ray diffraction techniques to confirm the phase identification and the lattice parameters. The As4S4 (II) phase crystallizes in monoclinic system with cell parameters a=11.202(4) Å, b=9.954(4) Å, c=7.142(4) Å, β=92.81(4)°, V=795.4(6) Å3, which shows good agreement with the former value. Raman spectroscopic studies elucidated the behavior of the substance and the relation among phases of tetra-arsenic tetrasulfide.  相似文献

Single crystals of potassium p-nitrophenolate dihydrate (NPK·2H2O) have been grown successfully using the isothermal solvent evaporation technique. It is a new semiorganic nonlinear optical crystal, possessing a deff of about 1.5 times that of lithium niobate and in which the K+ ions are bonded to the nitro group instead of bonding with the phenolic O. Large single crystals of dimension upto 20×6×4 mm3 are harvested within a period of 60 days. The grown crystals are subjected to single crystal X-ray, FTIR and DRS-UV visible spectral, thermal and microhardness analyses. Single crystal X-ray analysis confirms the molecular formula and the structure of the crystal. FTIR spectral studies verify the functional groups present in the crystal. The DRS-UV visible spectrum proved the optical transparency of the crystal in the entire visible and near infrared region. Thermal studies reveal that the crystals are stable upto 180 °C. Microhardness measurements on the cleaved plane (1 1 0) explain the strength and slip direction in the crystal. The SHG efficiency of the crystal is examined by performing the Kurtz powder test using Nd:YAG laser.  相似文献

Neodymium phosphate single crystals, NdPO4, have been grown by a flux growth method using Li2CO3-2MoO3 as a flux. The as-grown crystals were characterized by X-ray powder diffraction(XRPD), differential thermal analysis (DTA) and thermogravimetric analysis (TG) techniques. The results show that the as-grown crystals were well crystallized. The crystal was stable over the temperature range from 26 to 1200 °C in N2. The specific heat of NdPO4 crystal at room temperature was 0.41 J/g °C. The absorption and the fluorescence spectra of NdPO4 crystal were also measured at room temperature.  相似文献

Optically good quality single crystal of l-argininium perchlorate (abbreviated as LARPCL), a promising analog of LAP was successfully grown by slow solvent evaporation technique at room temperature. The unit cell parameters and the morphology of LARPCL single crystals were determined by single crystal XRD. The Vickers microhardness measurements were carried out on the grown crystals to estimate the mechanical properties. The dielectric constant and dielectric loss of the crystal were measured as a function of frequency and temperature, and the results are discussed.  相似文献

Germanium (1 1 1)-oriented crystals have been grown by the vertical Bridgman technique, in both detached and attached configurations. Microstructural characterization of these crystals has been performed using synchrotron white beam X-ray topography (SWBXT) and double axis X-ray diffraction. Dislocation densities were measured from X-ray topographs obtained using the reflection geometry. For detached-grown crystals, the dislocation density is on the order of 104 cm−2 in the seed region, and decreases in the direction of growth to less than 103 cm−2, and in some crystals reaches less than 102 cm−2. For crystals grown in the attached configuration, dislocation densities were on the order of 104 cm−2 in the middle of the crystals, increasing to greater than 105 cm−2 near the edge. The measured dislocation densities are in excellent agreement with etch pit density (EPD) results. Broadening and splitting of the rocking curve linewidths was observed in the vicinity of subgrain boundaries identified by X-ray topography in some of the attached-grown crystal wafers. The spatial distribution of rocking curve linewidths across the wafers corresponds to the spatial distribution of defect densities measured in the X-ray topographs and EPD micrographs.  相似文献

Single crystals of γ-glycine(GG) were grown by solvent evaporation technique from a mixture of aqueous solutions of glycine and ammonium nitrate at ambient temperature. X-ray diffraction, thermogravimetric/differential thermal analysis, Fourier transform infrared spectral techniques were employed to characterize the crystal. The lattice parameters were calculated and they agree well with the reported values. GG exists as dipolar ions in which the carboxyl group is present as a carboxylate ion and the amino group as an ammonium ion. Due to this dipolar nature, glycine has a high decomposition temperature. The UV cutoff of GG is below 300 nm and has a wide transparency window, which is suitable for second harmonic generation of laser in the blue region. Nonlinear optical characteristics of GG were studied using Q switched Nd:YAG laser (). The second harmonic generation conversion efficiency of GG is 1.5 times that of potassium dihydrogen phosphate . The X-ray diffraction and Fourier transform infrared spectral studies show the presence of strong hydrogen bonds which create and stabilize the crystal structure in GG. The main contributions to the nonlinear optical properties in GG results from the presence of the hydrogen bond and from the vibrational part due to very intense infrared bands of the hydrogen bond vibrations. GG is thermally stable up to 441 K.  相似文献

Meta-nitroaniline (m-NA) is one of the organic single crystals extensively studied due to its high non-linear effect. m-NA is also known to exhibit comparable or even better non-linear optical (NLO) properties than known inorganic materials. In this paper, we report development of m-NA single crystals by solution growth technique using different solvent systems. The size of the single crystal varies depending on solvent. The highest average crystal size acquired was 10 mm×5 mm×5 mm using methyl ethyl ketone and acetone as solvent. These single crystals were characterized using various physico-chemical techniques such as XRD and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The developed crystals were subsequently coated with recycled polystyrene (Re-PS) (1, 2, 5 and 10 wt% concentrations) to study the effect of polymer coating on the second harmonic generation (SHG) properties of the single crystals. The purpose of polymer coating on m-NA single crystal is to improve surface morphology of crystal (i.e. it makes surface smooth) and to enhance power handling capacity for pulse laser of a crystal which, in turn, improves the SHG intensity. The optimum percentage of coating was determined for the m-NA single crystals obtained from different solvent systems. Furthermore, the polymer coating also plays key role in preventing the degradation of the m-NA crystal (well-known as highly sublime material) and ultimately increasing the shelf life of the crystal for its device application.  相似文献

Single crystals of l-lysine acetate, an organic nonlinear optical (NLO) material, were grown by the controlled evaporation of its aqueous solutions. Its solubility in aqueous solution was determined gravimetrically. The grown crystals were characterized by the single-crystal diffraction, X-ray powder diffraction, Fourier transform infrared and Raman spectra. The structure analysis reveals that it belongs to the monoclinic crystallographic system, space group P21, with cell parameters: a=5.420(2) Å, b=7.542(4) Å, c=12.653(1) Å, β=91.73(1)°, Z=2 and V=516.8 Å3. Experiments of thermogravimetric (TG) and differential thermal analysis (DTA) were carried out to study its thermal properties. The optical behaviours, including transmission spectrum and second harmonic generation (SHG), were investigated to study its linear and NLO properties.  相似文献

Squared, platelet-like single crystals of 4-hydroxycyanobenzene (4HCB) have been grown from solutions based on ethylic ether and petroleum ether. Properly modifying the growth conditions, in terms of both solvent used for the growth and concentration of 4HCB in the starting solution, allowed one to tune the planar dimensions of the platelets in the range 2–6 mm, and their thickness in the range 150–600 μm. In this way samples well suited for desired practical manipulation and electronic measurements may be obtained. Moreover, lowering the growth temperature resulted in larger but still thin 4HCB crystals. The ability to tailor crystal thickness has allowed one to study their Space-Charge Limited Current (SCLC) behaviour along that dimension, showing that the so-contacted samples exhibit intrinsic-like bulk conduction behaviour, and are hence well suitable for electronic studies and applications.  相似文献

A solid-state metathesis approach for the synthesis of hydrated MnV2O6·xH2O (x=2, 4) materials driven by mechanochemical activation energy has been demonstrated. The metathesis pathway of forming the desired product is confirmed by the presence of high lattice energy by-product such as NaCl. The structural, optical, and chemical properties of the synthesized materials are examined by powder X-ray diffraction, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, thermo gravimetric analysis, scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, and diffused reflectance measurements in the UV–vis range. The valence state of Mn and V was determined to be +2 and +5, respectively, for the title compounds and the bandgap values determined showed these materials are likely to be semiconductors.  相似文献

Synthesis of the active [Ni–Fe]-hydrogenase in prokaryotes requires a series of ancillary maturation factors. Among them, the HypF maturation factor is a multidomain 82 kDa protein, whose N-terminal domain displays sequence and structural similarities to acylphosphatases. Acylphosphatases are small enzymes that are able to catalyze carboxyl-phosphate bond hydrolysis in acylphosphates, as well as in nucleoside di- and tri-phosphates and in arylphosphates. Here, we present a crystallographic comparison between microgravity and earth-grown crystals of the HypF N-terminal domain. Both crystals were of excellent quality, thereby allowing us to collect very high resolution datasets. A detailed analysis of data collection and refinement statistics, together with an analysis of the diffraction pattern showed that microgravity would appear to further improve the internal order of crystals.  相似文献

A new semiorganic nonlinear optical (NLO) crystal, Bis S-benzylisothiouronium tetrachloridozincate (II) (SBTTZ), has been synthesized and good optical quality needle shaped single crystals of the title material were grown by solvent evaporation solution growth method at room temperature. Powder X-ray diffraction pattern confirms the crystallinity of the material. Single X-ray diffraction study was carried out to establish the existence of intermolecular hydrogen bonding in the crystal. The UV–Vis–NIR spectrum indicates that the crystal has very good transmittance in the entire visible and near IR regions of the spectrum suggesting the suitability of the material for NLO applications. The presence of various functional groups was confirmed by FT IR spectroscopic technique. The 1H NMR spectrum confirms the molecular structure. The thermal and mechanical stabilities have been confirmed by TG/DTA analyses and Vickers microhardness study respectively. The SHG in the grown crystal was identified by modified Kurtz–Perry method using Nd:YAG laser as the source.  相似文献
