With this work we elaborate on the physics of quantum noise in thermal equilibrium and in stationary nonequilibrium. Starting out from the celebrated quantum fluctuation-dissipation theorem we discuss some important consequences that must hold for open, dissipative quantum systems in thermal equilibrium. The issue of quantum dissipation is exemplified with the fundamental problem of a damped harmonic quantum oscillator. The role of quantum fluctuations is discussed in the context of both, the nonlinear generalized quantum Langevin equation and the path integral approach. We discuss the consequences of the time-reversal symmetry for an open dissipative quantum dynamics and, furthermore, point to a series of subtleties and possible pitfalls. The path integral methodology is applied to the decay of metastable states assisted by quantum Brownian noise.  相似文献

We propose and illustrate in the context of the semiconductor laser that, in nonequilibrium fermionic systems with sources and sinks, the family of finite flux stationary solutions of the quantum Boltzmann equation is central and more important then the zero flux Fermi-Dirac spectrum. We present the quantum analog of the finite flux Kolmogorov spectra which are central to understanding nonequilibrium classical systems such as high Reynolds number hydrodynamics and the wave turbulence encountered in water waves, plasmas, and optics. In particular, we show how semiconductor laser efficiency can be improved by maximizing the flux of carriers (electrons and holes) towards the lasing frequencies.  相似文献

The so-called renormalization group (RG) method is applied to derive kinetic and transport equations from the respective microscopic equations. The derived equations include the Boltzmann equation in classical mechanics, the Fokker-Planck equation, and a rate equation in a quantum field theoretical model. Utilizing the formulation of the RG method which elucidates the important role played by the choice of the initial conditions, the general structure and the underlying assumptions in the derivation of kinetic equations in the RG method are clarified. It is shown that the present formulation naturally leads to the choice for the initial value of the microscopic distribution function at arbitrary time t0 to be on the averaged distribution function to be determined. The averaged distribution function may be thought of as an integral constant of the solution of the microscopic evolution equation; the RG equation gives the slow dynamics of the would-be initial constant, which is actually the kinetic equation governing the averaged distribution function. It is further shown that the averaging as given above gives rise to a coarse-graining of the time-derivative which is expressed with the initial time t0, and thereby leads to time-irreversible equations even from a time-reversible equation. It is shown that a further reduction of the Boltzmann equation to fluid dynamical equations and the adiabatic elimination of fast variables in the Fokker-Planck equation are also performed in a unified way in the present method.  相似文献

Decoherence is a subject of great importance in quantum mechanics, particularly in the fields of quantum optics, quantum information processing and quantum computing. Quantum computation relies heavily in the unitary character of each step carried out by a quantum computational device and this unitarity is affected by decoherence. An extensive study of master equations is therefore needed for a better understanding on how quantum information is processed when a system interacts with its environment. Master equations are usually studied by using Fokker–Planck and Langevin equations and not much attention has been given to the use of superoperator techniques. In this report we study in detail several approaches that lead to decoherence, for instance a variation of the Schrödinger equation that models decoherence as the system evolves through intrinsic mechanisms beyond conventional quantum mechanics rather than dissipative interaction with an environment. For the study of the dissipative interaction we use a correspondence principle approach. We solve the master equations for different physical systems, namely, Kerr and parametric down conversion. In the case of light-matter interaction we show that although dissipation destroys the quantumness of the field, information of the initial field may be obtained via the reconstruction of quasiprobability distribution functions.  相似文献

A link between memory effects in quantum kinetic equations and nonequilibrium correlations associated with the energy conservation is investigated. In order that the energy be conserved by an approximate collision integral, the one-particle distribution function and the mean interaction energy are treated as independent nonequilibrium state parameters. The density operator method is used to derive a kinetic equation in second-order non-Markovian Born approximation and an evolution equation for the nonequilibrium quasi-temperature which is thermodynamically conjugated to the mean interaction energy. The kinetic equation contains a correlation contribution which exactly cancels the collision term in thermal equilibrium and ensures the energy conservation in nonequilibrium states. Explicit expressions for the entropy production in the non-Markovian regime and the time-dependent correlation energy are obtained.  相似文献

We investigate quantum heat transfer in a nonequilibrium qubit-phonon hybrid open system, dissipated by external bosonic thermal reservoirs.By applying coherent phonon states embedded in the dressed quantum master equation,we are capable of dealing with arbitrary qubit-phonon coupling strength. It is counterintuitively found that the effect of negative differential thermal conductance is absent at strong qubit-phonon hybridization, but becomes profound at weak qubit-phonon coupling regime. The underlying mechanism of decreasing heat flux by increasing the temperature bias relies on the unidirectional transitions from the up-spin displaced coherent phonon states to the down-spin counterparts, which seriously freezes the qubit and prevents the system from completing a thermodynamic cycle. Finally, the effects of perfect thermal rectification and giant heat amplification are unraveled, thanks to the effect of negative differential thermal conductance. These results of the nonequilibrium qubit-phonon open system would have potential implications in smart energy control and functional design of phononic hybrid quantum devices.  相似文献

We introduce a new method for deriving the time-dependent Hartree or Hartree-Fock equations as an effective mean-field dynamics from the microscopic Schrödinger equation for fermionic many-particle systems in quantum mechanics. The method is an adaption of the method used in Pickl (Lett. Math. Phys. 97 (2) 151–164 2011) for bosonic systems to fermionic systems. It is based on a Gronwall type estimate for a suitable measure of distance between the microscopic solution and an antisymmetrized product state. We use this method to treat a new mean-field limit for fermions with long-range interactions in a large volume. Some of our results hold for singular attractive or repulsive interactions. We can also treat Coulomb interaction assuming either a mild singularity cutoff or certain regularity conditions on the solutions to the Hartree(-Fock) equations. In the considered limit, the kinetic and interaction energy are of the same order, while the average force is subleading. For some interactions, we prove that the Hartree(-Fock) dynamics is a more accurate approximation than a simpler dynamics that one would expect from the subleading force. With our method we also treat the mean-field limit coupled to a semiclassical limit, which was discussed in the literature before, and we recover some of the previous results. All results hold for initial data close (but not necessarily equal) to antisymmetrized product states and we always provide explicit rates of convergence.  相似文献

Using the density matrix method in the form developed by Zubarev, equations of motion for nonequilibrium quantum systems with continuous short range interactions are derived which describe kinetic and hydrodynamic processes in a consistent way. The T-matrix as well as the two-particle density matrix determining the nonequilibrium collision integral are obtained in the ladder approximation including the Hartree-Fock corrections and the Pauli blocking for intermediate states. It is shown that in this approximation the total energy is conserved. The developed approach to the kinetic theory of dense quantum systems is able to reproduce the virial corrections consistent with the generalized Beth-Uhlenbeck approximation in equilibrium. The contribution of many-particle correlations to the drift term in the quantum kinetic equation for dense systems is discussed.  相似文献

We discuss recent findings about properties of quantum nonequilibrium steady states. In particular we focus on transport properties. It is shown that the time-dependent density matrix renormalization method can be used successfully to find a stationary solution of Lindblad master equation. Furthermore, for a specific model an exact solution is presented.  相似文献

We address the question of which phase space functionals might represent a quantum state. We derive necessary and sufficient conditions for both pure and mixed phase space quantum states. From the pure state quantum condition we obtain a formula for the momentum correlations of arbitrary order and derive explicit expressions for the wave functions in terms of time-dependent and independent Wigner functions. We show that the pure state quantum condition is preserved by the Moyal (but not by the classical Liouville) time evolution and is consistent with a generic stargenvalue equation. As a by-product Baker's converse construction is generalized both to an arbitrary stargenvalue equation, associated to a generic phase space symbol, as well as to the time-dependent case. These results are properly extended to the mixed state quantum condition, which is proved to imply the Heisenberg uncertainty relations. Globally, this formalism yields the complete characterization of the kinematical structure of Wigner quantum mechanics. The previous results are then succinctly generalized for various quasi-distributions. Finally, the formalism is illustrated through the simple examples of the harmonic oscillator and the free Gaussian wave packet. As a by-product, we obtain in the former example an integral representation of the Hermite polynomials.  相似文献

We show from first principles the emergence of classical Boltzmann equations from relativistic nonequilibrium quantum field theory as described by the Kadanoff–Baym equations. Our method applies to a generic quantum field, coupled to a collection of background fields and sources, in a homogeneous and isotropic spacetime. The analysis is based on analytical solutions to the full Kadanoff–Baym equations, using the WKB approximation. This is in contrast to previous derivations of kinetic equations that rely on similar physical assumptions, but obtain approximate equations of motion from a gradient expansion in momentum space. We show that the system follows a generalized Boltzmann equation whenever the WKB approximation holds. The generalized Boltzmann equation, which includes off-shell transport, is valid far from equilibrium and in a time dependent background, such as the expanding universe.  相似文献

We show how the ideas of the fluctuation-dissipation theory can be used to calculate spatial correlations in interacting systems away from equilibrium. The only spatially dependent dissipative process considered is diffusion, and spatial correlations are generated by the nonlocal spatial dependence of the chemical potential. The results are the lowest order in a hierarchy of generalized hydrodynamic type calculations applicable to nonequilibrium systems. We derive equations for the density correlation functions at stationary state supported by diffusive fluxes and show that they have the local equilibrium form. The static correlation function is obtained from the fluctuation-dissipation theorem, which we show to be equivalent to the Ornstein-Zernike integral equation. At equilibrium we demonstrate that the dynamical structure factor obtained by these methods includes the expected wave-vector dependent diffusion constant. Finally we derive a necessary and sufficient condition for local equilibrium to obtain at a stationary state and show by explicit calculation that chemical processes can give rise to significant nonequilibrium correlations.  相似文献

We show how continuous matrix product states of quantum fields can be described in terms of the dissipative nonequilibrium dynamics of a lower-dimensional auxiliary boundary field by demonstrating that the spatial correlation functions of the bulk field correspond to the temporal statistics of the boundary field. This equivalence (1) illustrates an intimate connection between the theory of continuous quantum measurement and quantum field theory, (2) gives an explicit construction of the boundary field allowing the extension of real-space renormalization group methods to arbitrary dimensional quantum field theories without the introduction of a lattice parameter, and (3) yields a novel interpretation of recent cavity QED experiments in terms of quantum field theory, and hence paves the way toward observing genuine quantum phase transitions in such zero-dimensional driven quantum systems.  相似文献

The dissipative effects in nonequilibrium thermodfield dynamics are the gauge fields of theSU(1, 1) symmetry of the free bosonic thermal theory [SU(2) for the fermionic one]. In two dimensions some nonequilibrium systems are equivalent to equilibrium systems. An interesting relation exists between the equivalence principle of general relativity and the assumption, in statistical mechanics, of the existence of local subsystems in equilibrium.  相似文献
