Let be a smooth foliation on a closed Riemannian manifold M, and let Λ be a transverse invariant measure of . Suppose that Λ is absolutely continuous with respect to the Lebesgue measure on smooth transversals. Then a topological definition of the Λ-Lefschetz number of any leaf preserving diffeomorphism is given. For this purpose, standard results about smooth approximation and transversality are extended to the case of foliation maps. It is asked whether this topological Λ-Lefschetz number is equal to the analytic Λ-Lefschetz number defined by Heitsch and Lazarov, which would be a version of the Lefschetz trace formula. We classify nondegenerate centers of systems of the form

An (n,k)-affine source over a finite field is a random variable X = (X 1,..., X n ) ∈ , which is uniformly distributed over an (unknown) k-dimensional affine subspace of . We show how to (deterministically) extract practically all the randomness from affine sources, for any field of size larger than n c (where c is a large enough constant). Our main results are as follows:
1.  (For arbitrary k): For any n,k and any of size larger than n 20, we give an explicit construction for a function D : → , such that for any (n,k)-affine source X over , the distribution of D(X) is -close to uniform, where is polynomially small in ||.
2.  (For k=1): For any n and any of size larger than n c , we give an explicit construction for a function D: , such that for any (n, 1)-affine source X over , the distribution of D(X) is -close to uniform, where is polynomially small in ||. Here, δ>0 is an arbitrary small constant, and c is a constant depending on δ.

We define a new differential invariant a compact manifold by , where V c (M, [g]) is the conformal volume of M for the conformal class [g], and prove that it is uniformly bounded above. The main motivation is that this bound provides a upper bound of the Friedlander-Nadirashvili invariant defined by . The intersection of two Steiner triple systems and is the set . The fine intersection problem for Steiner triple systems is to determine for each v, the set I(v), consisting of all possible pairs (m, n) such that there exist two Steiner triple systems of order v whose intersection satisfies and . In the present paper we obtain a sufficient condition for the exponential dichotomy of a strongly continuous, one-parameter semigroup , in terms of the admissibility of the pair . It is already known the equivalence between the -admissibility condition and and the hyperbolicity of a C 0-semigroup , when we assume a priori that the kernel of the dichotomic projector (denoted here by X 2) is T(t)-invariant and is an invertible operator. We succeed to prove in this paper that the admissibility of the pair still implies the existence of an exponential dichotomy for a C 0-semigroup even in the general case where the kernel of the dichotomic projector, X 2, is not assumed to be T(t)-invariant.   相似文献

A contact-stationary Legendrian submanifold of is a Legendrian submanifold whose volume is stationary under contact deformations. The simplest contact-stationary Legendrian submanifold (actually minimal Legendrian) is the real, equatorial n-sphere S 0. This paper develops a method for constructing contact-stationary (but not minimal) Legendrian submanifolds of by gluing together configurations of sufficiently many many U(n + 1)-rotated copies of S 0. Two examples of the construction, corresponding to finite cyclic subgroups of U(n + 1) are given. The resulting submanifolds are very symmetric; are geometrically akin to a ‘necklace’ of copies of S 0 attached to each other by narrow necks and winding a large number of times around before closing up on themselves; and are topologically equivalent to .  相似文献

We construct a CAT(0) group containing a finitely presented subgroup with infinitely many conjugacy classes of finite-order elements. Unlike previous examples (which were based on right-angled Artin groups) our ambient CAT(0) group does not contain any rank 3 free abelian subgroups. We also construct examples of groups of type F n inside mapping class groups, Aut(), and Out() which have infinitely many conjugacy classes of finite-order elements.   相似文献

We observe that the analogue of the Gelfand–Zeitlin action on , which exists on any symplectic manifold M with an Hamiltonian action of , has a natural interpretation as a residual action, after we identify M with a symplectic quotient of . We also show that the Gelfand–Zeitlin actions on and on the regular part of can be identified with natural Hamiltonian actions on spaces of rational maps into full flag manifolds, while the Gelfand–Zeitlin action on the whole corresponds to a natural action on a space of rational maps into the manifold of half-full flags in . We show that, under certain hypotheses, the -corank of sel p ∞(A/F) is unbounded over finite extensions F/K contained in . As a consequence, we prove a strengthened version of a conjecture of M. We consider a Hamiltonian action of a connected group G on a symplectic manifold (P, ω) with an equivariant momentum map and its quantization in terms of a K?hler polarization which gives rise to a unitary representation of G on a Hilbert space . If O is a co-adjoint orbit of G quantizable with respect to a K?hler polarization, we describe geometric quantization of algebraic reduction of J −1(O). We show that the space of normalizable states of quantization of algebraic reduction of J −1(O) gives rise to a projection operator onto a closed subspace of on which is unitarily equivalent to a multiple of the irreducible unitary representation of G corresponding to O. This is a generalization of the results of Guillemin and Sternberg obtained under the assumptions that G and P are compact and that the action of G on P is free. We provide the exact distribution of the local score in random sequences in several models. We will first consider a Markov model on the score sequence , and then on the letter sequence . Laguerre geometry of surfaces in is given in the book of Blaschke [Vorlesungen über Differentialgeometrie, Springer, Berlin Heidelberg New York (1929)], and has been studied by Musso and Nicolodi [Trans. Am. Math. soc. 348, 4321–4337 (1996); Abh. Math. Sem. Univ. Hamburg 69, 123–138 (1999); Int. J. Math. 11(7), 911–924 (2000)], Palmer [Remarks on a variation problem in Laguerre geometry. Rendiconti di Mathematica, Serie VII, Roma, vol. 19, pp. 281–293 (1999)] and other authors. In this paper we study Laguerre differential geometry of hypersurfaces in . For any umbilical free hypersurface with non-zero principal curvatures we define a Laguerre invariant metric g on M and a Laguerre invariant self-adjoint operator : TM → TM, and show that is a complete Laguerre invariant system for hypersurfaces in with n≥ 4. We calculate the Euler–Lagrange equation for the Laguerre volume functional of Laguerre metric by using Laguerre invariants. Using the Euclidean space , the semi-Euclidean space and the degenerate space we define three Laguerre space forms , and and define the Laguerre embeddings and , analogously to what happens in the Moebius geometry where we have Moebius space forms S n , and (spaces of constant curvature) and conformal embeddings and [cf. Liu et al. in Tohoku Math. J. 53, 553–569 (2001) and Wang in Manuscr. Math. 96, 517–534 (1998)]. Using these Laguerre embeddings we can unify the Laguerre geometry of hypersurfaces in , and .
