Products of composition operators and integral-type operators from Zygmund-type spaces to <Emphasis Type="Italic">Q</Emphasis> <Subscript> <Emphasis Type="Italic">K</Emphasis> </Subscript> spaces

Let φ be an analytic self-map of the open unit disk D. The boundedness and compactness of products of composition operators and integral-type operators from Zygmund-type spaces to Q_K spaces are investigated.

Fehlerabschätzungen für nichtsymmetrische Gauß-Quadraturformeln

Summary We consider Gaussian quadrature formulaeQ _n , n, approximating the integral , wherew is a weight function. In certain spaces of analytic functions the error functionalR _n :=I–Q _n is continuous. Previously one of the authors deduced estimates for R _n for symmetric Gaussian quadrature formulae. In this paper we extend these results to nonsymmetric Gaussian formulae using a recent result of Gautschi concerning the sign ofR _n (q _K ),q _K (x):=x ^K , for a wide class of weight functions including the Jacobi weights.

     

PROJECTIONS ON OPERATOR DUALS

Abstract

We discuss the existence of a projection with kernel K_b(E,F) ¹ (the annihilator of the quasi-compact operators) on the dual space of the space L _b,(E, F) of continous linear operators. Our results are proved in the context of Hausdorff locally convex spaces, but also provide extensions of recent results in the context of Banach spaces.     

An elementary approach to ‘Algebra ∩ topology = compactness’

Herrlich and Strecker characterized the category Comp ₂ of compact Hausdorff spaces as the only nontrivial full epireflective subcategory in the category Top ₂ of all Hausdorff spaces that is concretely isomorphic to a variety in the sense of universal algebra including infinitary operations. The original proof of this result requires Noble's theorem, i.e. a space is compact Hausdorff iff every of its powers is normal, which is far from being elementary. Likewise, Petz' characterization of the class of compact Hausdorff spaces as the only nontrivial epireflective subcategory of Top ₂, which is closed under dense extensions (= epimorphisms in Top ₂) and strictly contained in Top ₂ is based on a result by Kattov stating that a space is compact Hausdorff iff its every closed subspace is H-closed. This note offers an elementary approach for both, instead.Presented at the European Colloquium of Category Theory, Tours, France, 25–31 July 1994.     

Intrinsic characterizations of perturbation classes on some Banach spaces

We investigate relationships between inessential operators and improjective operators acting between Banach spaces X and Y, emphasizing the case in which one of the spaces is a C(K) space. We show that they coincide in many cases, but they are different in the case X = Y = C(K ₀), where K ₀ is a compact space constructed by Koszmider.     

Strong inclusion orders between L-subsets and its applications in L-convex spaces

Abstract

In this paper, the concept of strong inclusion orders between L-subsets is introduced. As a tool, it is applied to the following aspects. Firstly, the notion of algebraic L-closure operators is proposed and the resulting category is shown to be isomorphic to the category of L-convex spaces (also called algebraic L-closure spaces). Secondly, restricted L-hull operators, as generalizations of restricted hull operators, are introduced and the resulting category is also proved to be isomorphic to the category of L-convex spaces. Finally, by using the properties of strong inclusion orders, it is shown that the category of convex spaces can be embedded in the category of stratified L-convex spaces as a reflective subcategory and the concrete form of the coreflective functor from the category of L-convex spaces to the category of stratified L-convex spaces is presented.     

SOME FUNCTIONAL ANALYTIC PROPERTIES OF COMPOSITION OPERATORS

Abstract

This is a report on a number of recent results on composition operators which map, for 0 < p ? q ∞, the Hardy space H^p (on the unit disk in the complex plane) into H ^q. Attention is focused on questions of boundedness (existence), compactness, order boundedness and, in connection with the latter, on relating the absolutely summing and nuclearity character as well as special factorization properties of the operator to function theoretic properties of the defining symbol. Moreover, tools are provided to show that certain classes of operators can well be distinguished already on the level of composition operators.     

SPACES WITH WALLMAN EQUIVALENT INTERMEDIATE SPACES

Abstract

If every infinite closed subset of the Wallman compactification, WX, of a space X must contain at least one element of X, then for any space Y intermediate between X and WX the Wallman compactification WY is homeomorphic to WX. This extends a property which characterizes normality inducing spaces. In the case where X is not normal, however, this is not a characterization, since there are nonnormal spaces for which all intermediate spaces are Wallman equivalent, but have infinite closed subsets contained in WX/X.     

Convergence of Rational Interpolants with Preassigned Poles

Let Ω be a domain in the extended complex plane such that ∞∈Ω . Further, let K= C / Ω and, for each n , let Q _n be a monic polynomial of degree n with all its zeros in K . This paper is concerned with whether (Q _n ) can be chosen so that, if f is any holomorphic function on Ω and P _n is the polynomial part of the Laurent expansion of Q _n f at ∞ , then (P _n /Q _n ) converges to f locally uniformly on Ω . It is shown that such a sequence (Q _n ) can be chosen if and only if either K has zero logarithmic capacity or Ω is regular. January 21, 1999. Date accepted: August 17, 1999.     

Weighted composition operators from F（p,q, s） spaces to Bers-type spaces in the unit ball

This paper deals with the boundedness and compactness of the weighted composition operators from the F（p, q, s） spaces, including Hardy space, Bergman space, Qp space, BMOA space, Besov space and α-Bloch space, to Bers-type spaces Hv^∞（ or little Bers-type spaces Hv,o∞ ）, where v is normal.     

L p-Theory of elliptic differential operators on manifolds of bounded geometry

This paper is devoted to some of the properties of uniformly elliptic differential operators with bounded coefficients on manifolds of bounded geometry in L ^pspaces. We prove the coincidence of minimal and maximal extensions of an operator of a considered type with a positive principal symbol, the existence of holomorphic semigroup, generated by it, and the estimates of L ^p-norms of the operators of this semigroup. Some spectral properties of such operators in L ^pspaces are also studied.     

Traces of Sobolev functions with one square integrable directional derivative

We consider the Sobolev spaces of square integrable functions v, from ?ⁿ or from one of its hyperquadrants Q, into a complex separable Hilbert space, with square integrable sum of derivatives ∑?_??v. In these spaces we define closed trace operators on the boundaries ?Q and on the hyperplanes {r_?? = z}, z ∈ ?\{0}, which turn out to be possibly unbounded with respect to the usual L²‐norm for the image. Therefore, we also introduce bigger trace spaces with weaker norms which allow to get bounded trace operators, and, even if these traces are not L², we prove an integration by parts formula on each hyperquadrant Q. Then we discuss surjectivity of our trace operators and we establish the relation between the regularity properties of a function on ?ⁿ and the regularity properties of its restrictions to the hyperquadrants Q. The Kμ-Transformation on McBride's Spaces of Generalized Functions

In this paper we define the K_μ- transformation on certain spaces of generalized functions introduced by A.C. McBride by employing the kernel method. we also establish relations between the generalized K_μ- transformation and certain fractional integral operators.     

The Root Problem For Stochastic Operators

Abstract

This note contains an order-theoretical approach to the theory of stochastic operators. Our main result is a necessary condition for the existence of n-th roots of an ergodic and conservative operator, which generalizes known results for measure-preserving operators and operators on L ^p-type spaces.     

Holomorphic Operators Generating Dense Images

The existence of infinite dimensional closed linear spaces of holomorphic functions f on a domain G in the complex plane such that Tf has dense images on certain subsets of G, where T is a continuous linear operator, is analyzed. Necessary and sufficient conditions for T to have the latter property are provided and applied to obtain a number of concrete examples: infinite order differential operators, composition operators and multiplication operators, among others. Anti-Wick Symbols for Infinite Products in K-Homology

We consider infinite products in K-homology. We study these products in relation with operators on filtered Hilbert spaces, and infinite iterations of universal constructions on C*-algebras. In particular, infinite tensor power of extensions of pseudodifferential operators on R are considered. We extend anti-Wick pseudodifferential operators to infinite tensor products of spaces of the type L ²(R), and compare our infinite tensor power construction with an extension of pseudodifferential operators on R . We show that the K-theory connecting maps coincide. We propose a natural definition of ellipticity for anti-Wick operators on R, compute the corresponding index, and draw some consequences concerning these operators.     

Approximation capabilities of immersed finite element spaces for elasticity Interface problems

We construct and analyze a group of immersed finite element (IFE) spaces formed by linear, bilinear, and rotated Q₁ polynomials for solving planar elasticity equation involving interface. The shape functions in these IFE spaces are constructed through a group of approximate jump conditions such that the unisolvence of the bilinear and rotated Q₁ IFE shape functions are always guaranteed regardless of the Lamé parameters and the interface location. The boundedness property and a group of identities of the proposed IFE shape functions are established. A multi‐point Taylor expansion is utilized to show the optimal approximation capabilities for the proposed IFE spaces through the Lagrange type interpolation operators.     

On K-groups of operator algebras on HD n spaces and QD n spaces

We obtain the K-groups of the operator ideals contained in the class of Riesz operators. And based on the results, we calculate the K-groups of the operator algebras on HD nspaces and QDn spaces.
