This paper illustrates some initial steps taken in the e?ort of unifying the theory of positivity in ordered Banach algebas (OBAs) with the general Fredholm theory in Banach algebras. We introduce here upper Weyl and upper Browder elements in an OBA relative to an arbitrary Banach algebra homomorphism and investigate the spectra corresponding to the sets of upper Weyl and upper Browder elements, which we shall refer to as the upper Weyl and upper Browder spectra, respectively.  相似文献

This paper introduces a new class of lattice ordered algebras. A lattice ordered algebra A will be called a pseudo f-algebra if xy = 0 for all x, y in A such that x y is a nilpotent element in A. Dierent aspects of archimedean pseudo f-algebras are considered in detail. Mainly their integral representations on spaces of continuous functions, as well as their connection with almost f-algebras and f-algebras. Various characterizations of order bounded multiplicators on pseudo f-algebras are given, where by a multiplicator on a pseudo f-algebra A we mean an operator T on A such that xT(y) = yT(x) for all x, y in A. In this regard, it will be focused on the relationship between multiplicators and orthomorphisms on pseudo f-algebras.  相似文献

If P is a directed partially ordered algebra of an appropriate sort-e.g. an upper semilattice-and has no maximal element, then P has two disjoint subalgebras each cofinal in P. In fact, if P has cofinality then there exists a family of such disjoint subalgebras. A version of this result is also proved without the directedness assumption, in which the cofinality of P is replaced by an invariant which we call its global cofinality.This work was done while the first author was partly supported by NSF contract MCS 82-02632.  相似文献

Generalizing a recent result of E.B. Davies [4], we show that generators of bounded positive C0-semigroups on atomic Banach lattices with order continuous norm have trivial peripheral point spectrum. The main purpose of this paper is to study the continuity of several kinds of generalized inverses of elements in a Banach algebra with identity. We first obtain a sufficient and necessary condition for the lower semi-continuity of reflexive generalized inverses as set-valued mappings. Based on this result, we characterize the continuity of the Moore-Penrose inverse in a C-algebra and therefore, derive some new and well-known criteria in operator theory.  相似文献

For a Lau algebra A, we study the Banach space WAP(A) of all weakly almost periodic functionals on A to obtain some equivalent conditions for the existence of topological left invariant means on a topological left introverted subspace X of A contained in WAP(A). For a matrix over a complex commutative unital Banach algebra, necessary and sufficient conditions are given for the existence of its group inverse, and more generally, its Drazin inverses. The conditions are easy to check and explicit formulas for the inverses are provided. Some properties of the inverses and an application to operator theory are discussed. The convergence of iterative methods for solving nonlinear operator equations in Banach spaces is established from the convergence of majorizing sequences. An alternative approach is developed to establish this convergence by using recurrence relations. In a uniformly complete -algebra with unite>0 the principal band {e} dd generated bye is a projection band. We prove that the formula of A. R. Schep for the projection onto this band which holds in the -algebra of order bounded operators on a Dedekind complete vector lattice, in general defines a projection onto the commutant of {e} dd . We present some examples to show that the commutant may be strictly larger than the band {e} dd , and also conditions which guarantee equality.This paper was written during the fall semester of 1993 while the first author visited the Department of Mathematics of the University of Leiden as a guest of Dr. C. An abstract monotone iterative method is developed for operators between partially ordered Banach spaces for the nonlinear problem Lu=Nu and the nonlinear time dependent problem u=(L+N)u. Under appropriate assumptions on L and N we obtain maximal and minimal solutions as limits of monotone sequences of solutions of linear problems.
