In this note, we show that a compact Hausdorff space X is dense-separable if and only if every family of ideals of C(X) with zero intersection has a countable subfamily with zero intersection. As a consequence of this characterization we observe that every compact dense-separable space whith Soc(C(X)) = 0 has a countable dense and co-dense subset.  相似文献

The closed subspaces of finite codimension of the space C(X) of all continuous real-valued functions on a compact Hausdorff space X, for which the set of elements of best approximations of every function f C(X) is nonempty and compact, are characterized. We characterize those Tychonoff quasi-uniform spaces for which the Hausdorff-Bourbaki quasi-uniformity is uniformly locally compact on the family of nonempty compact subsets of X. We deduce, among other results, that the Hausdorff-Bourbaki quasi-uniformity of the locally finite quasi-uniformity of a Tychonoff space Xis uniformly locally compact on if and only if Xis paracompact and locally compact. We also introduce the notion of a co-uniformly locally compact quasi-uniform space and show that a Hausdorff topological space is -compact if and only if its (lower) semi-continuous quasi-uniformity is co-uniformly locally compact. A characterization of those Hausdorff quasi-uniform spaces for which the Hausdorff-Bourbaki quasi-uniformity is co-uniformly locally compact on is obtained.  相似文献

Denote by Cs(X;E) the space of the continuous functions defined on the completely regular and Hausdorff space X, with values in the locally convex topological vector space E, when it is endowed with the simple or point-wise convergence topology. We give here some conditions on X and on E under which the space Cs(X;E) is bornological or ultrabornological and characterize in some cases the corresponding associated spaces. This paper is devoted to study embedding and denseness properties of reproducing kernel Hilbert spaces, in the spaces C(X) and \(L^p(X,\mu )\), when X is a locally compact topological Hausdorff space or a locally compact topological Hausdorff abelian group. Abstract

Examples are provided which demonstrate that in many cases topological products do not behave as they should. A new product for topological spaces is defined in a natural way by means of interior covers. In general this is no longer a topological space but can be interpreted as categorical product in a category larger than Top. For compact spaces the new product coincides with the old. There is a converse: For symmetric topological spaces X the following conditions are equivalent: (1) X is compact; (2) for each cardinal k the old and the new product Xk coincide; (3) for each compact Hausdorff space Y the old and the new product X x Y coincide. The new product preserves paracompactness, zero-dimensionality (in the covering sense), the Lindelöf property, and regular-closedness. With respect to the new product, a space is N-complete iff it is zerodimensional and R-complete.  相似文献
