The ground states of FeS(2) and FeS(2)(-), and several low-lying excited electronic states of FeS(2) that are responsible for the FeS(2)(-) photoelectron spectrum, are calculated. At the B3LYP level an open, quasi-linear [SFeS](-) conformation is found as the most stable structure, which is confirmed at the ab initio CASPT2 computational level. Both the neutral and the anionic unsaturated complexes possess high-spin electronic ground states. For the first time a complete assignment of the photoelectron spectrum of FeS(2)(-) is proposed. The lowest energy band in this spectrum is ascribed to an electron detachment from the two highest-lying 3dpi antibonding orbitals (with respect to the iron-sulfur bonding) of iron. The next-lowest experimental band corresponds to an electron removal from nonbonding, nearly pure sulfur orbitals. The two highest bands in the spectra are assigned as electron detachments from pi and sigma bonding mainly sulfur orbitals.  相似文献

The relative stabilities of all low-lying conformations of FeO(4)(0/-) stoichiometry were investigated at the quantum mechanical BPW91, CASPT2, and RCCSD(T) levels of theory. For both the anionic and neutral clusters, the determination of the most stable structure appears to be a demanding task. The density functional theory and wave function second-order perturbation theory computational techniques place the doublet state of the tetrahedron-like O(4)Fe(-) conformation substantially lower, up to 0.81 eV, than the doublet state of η(2)-(O(2))FeO(2)(-). The coupled-cluster method reduces the energy difference to less than 0.01 eV. This equal stability of the ground states of O(4)Fe(-) and η(2)-(O(2))FeO(2)(-) leads to the assignment of the experimental photoelectron spectrum of FeO(4)(-). The lowest binding energy band (X band) is ascribed to the (2)A(1) → (1)A(1) ionization of η(2)-(O(2))FeO(2)(-), while the higher energy band (A band) mainly corresponds to the (2)E → (1)A(1) transition between the O(4)Fe(0/-) conformations. For a specific conformation, CASPT2 calculates the best electron detachment energies. The highest energy peak in this band with the weakest intensity could be ascribed to the (2)A(2) → (3)A(2) transition between the η(2)-(O(2))FeO(2) conformations. The two progressions are the result of ionizations from the anti-bonding orbitals of predominant iron 3d. For a specific conformation, CASPT2 calculates the best electron detachment energies. A BPW91 Franck-Condon simulation of the observed vibrational progressions further confirms the proposed assignments.  相似文献

Trigonal-planar, middle transition metal diiminato-imido complexes do not exhibit high-spin states, as might be naively expected on the basis of their low coordination numbers. Instead, the known Fe(III), Co(III), and Ni(III) complexes exhibit S = 3/2, S = 0, and S = 1/2 ground states, respectively. Kohn-Sham DFT calculations have provided a basic molecular orbital picture of these compounds as well as a qualitative rationale for the observed spin states. Reported herein are ab initio multiconfiguration second-order perturbation theory (CASPT2) calculations, which provide a relatively detailed picture of the d-d excited-state manifolds of these complexes. Thus, for a C(2v) Fe(III)(diiminato)(NPh) model complex, two near-degenerate states ((4)B(2) and (4)B(1)) compete as contenders for the ground state. Moreover, the high-spin sextet, two additional quartets and even a low-spin doublet all occur at <0.5 eV, relative to the ground state. For the Co(III) system, although CASPT2 reproduces an S = 0 ground state, as observed experimentally for a related complex, the calculations also predict two exceedingly low-energy triplet states; there are, however, no other particularly low-energy d-d excited states. In contrast to the Fe(III) and Co(III) cases, the Ni(III) complex has a clearly nondegenerate (2)B(2) ground state. The CASPT2 energetics provide benchmarks against which we can evaluate the performance of several common DFT methods. Although none of the functionals examined perform entirely satisfactorily, the B3LYP hybrid functional provides the best overall spin-state energetics.  相似文献

High-level ab initio calculations using multiconfigurational perturbation theory [complete active space with second-order perturbation theory (CASPT2)] were performed on the transition energy between the lowest high-spin (corresponding to (5T2g) in Oh) and low-spin (corresponding to 1A1g in Oh) states in the series of six-coordinated Fe(II) molecules [Fe(L)(NHS4)], where NHS4 is 2,2'-bis(2-mercaptophenylthio)diethylamine dianion and L=NH3, N2H4, PMe3, CO, and NO+. The results are compared to (previous and presently obtained) results from density functional theory (DFT) calculations with four functionals, which were already shown previously by Casida and co-workers [Fouqueau et al., J. Chem. Phys. 120, 9473 (2004); Ganzenmuller et al., ibid. 122, 234321 (2005); Fouqueau et al., ibid. 122, 044110 (2005); Lawson Daku et al., ChemPhysChem 6, 1393 (2005)] to perform well for the spin-pairing problem in these and other Fe(II) complexes, i.e., OLYP, PBE0, B3LYP, and B3LYP*. Very extended basis sets were used both for the DFT and CASPT2 calculations and were shown to be necessary to obtain quantitative results with both types of method. This work presents a sequel to a previous DFT/CASPT2 study of the same property in the complexes [Fe(H2O)6]2+, [Fe(NH3)6]2+, and [Fe(bpy)3]2+ [Pierloot et al., J. Chem. Phys. 125, 124303 (2006)]. The latter work was extended with new results obtained with larger basis sets and including the OLYP functional. For all considered complexes, the CASPT2 method predicts the correct ground state spin multiplicity. Since experimental data for the actual quintet-singlet (free) energy differences are not available, the performance of the different DFT functionals was judged based on the comparison between the DFT and CASPT2 results. From this, it was concluded that the generalized gradient OLYP functional performs remarkably well for the present series of ferrous compounds, whereas the success of the three hybrid functionals varies from case to case.  相似文献

The rearrangement of phenylcarbene (1) to 1,2,4,6-cycloheptatetraene (3) has been studied theoretically, using SCF, CASSCF, CASPT2N, DFT (B3LYP), CISD, CCSD, and CCSD(T) methods in conjunction with the 6-31G, 6-311+G, 6-311G(2d,p), cc-pVDZ, and DZd basis sets. Stationary points were characterized by vibrational frequency analyses at CASSCF(8,8)/6-31G and B3LYP/6-31G. Phenylcarbene (1) has a triplet ground state ((3)A") with a singlet-triplet separation (DeltaE(ST)) of 3-5 kcal mol(-)(1). In agreement with experiment, chiral 3 is the lowest lying structure on this part of the C(7)H(6) potential energy surface. Bicyclo[4.1.0]hepta-2,4,6-triene (2) is an intermediate in the rearrangement of 1 into 3, but it is unlikely to be observable experimentally due to a barrier height of only 1-2 kcal mol(-)(1). The enantiomers of 3 interconvert via the (1)A(2) state of cycloheptatrienylidene (4) with an activation energy of 20 kcal mol(-)(1). The "aromatic" (1)A(1) state, previously believed to be the lowest singlet state of 4, is roughly 10 kcal mol(-)(1) higher in energy than the (1)A(2) state, and, in violation of Hund's rule, (3)A(2) is also calculated to lie above (1)A(2) in energy. Thus, even if (3)A(2) were populated, it is likely to undergo rapid intersystem crossing to (1)A(2). We suggest (3)B(1)-4 is the metastable triplet observed by EPR.  相似文献

High-nuclearity Mo[bond]Fe[bond]S clusters are of interest as potential synthetic precursors to the MoFe(7)S(9) cofactor cluster of nitrogenase. In this context, the synthesis and properties of previously reported but sparsely described trinuclear [(edt)(2)M(2)FeS(6)](3-) (M = Mo (2), W (3)) and hexanuclear [(edt)(2)Mo(2)Fe(4)S(9)](4-) (4, edt = ethane-1,2-dithiolate; Zhang, Z.; et al. Kexue Tongbao 1987, 32, 1405) have been reexamined and extended. More accurate structures of 2-4 that confirm earlier findings have been determined. Detailed preparations (not previously available) are given for 2 and 3, whose structures exhibit the C(2) arrangement [[(edt)M(S)(mu(2)-S)(2)](2)Fe(III)](3-) with square pyramidal Mo(V) and tetrahedral Fe(III). Oxidation states follow from (57)Fe M?ssbauer parameters and an S = (3)/(2) ground state from the EPR spectrum. The assembly system 2/3FeCl(3)/3Li(2)S/nNaSEt in methanol/acetonitrile (n = 4) affords (R(4)N)(4)[4] (R = Et, Bu; 70-80%). The structure of 4 contains the [Mo(2)Fe(4)(mu(2)-S)(6)(mu(3)-S)(2)(mu(4)-S)](0) core, with the same bridging pattern as the [Fe(6)S(9)](2-) core of [Fe(6)S(9)(SR)(2)](4-) (1), in overall C(2v) symmetry. Cluster 4 supports a reversible three-member electron transfer series 4-/3-/2- with E(1/2) = -0.76 and -0.30 V in Me(2)SO. Oxidation of (Et(4)N)(4)[4] in DMF with 1 equiv of tropylium ion gives [(edt)(2)Mo(2)Fe(4)S(9)](3-) (5) isolated as (Et(4)N)(3)[5].2DMF (75%). Alternatively, the assembly system (n = 3) gives the oxidized cluster directly as (Bu(4)N)(3)[5] (53%). Treatment of 5 with 1 equiv of [Cp(2)Fe](1+) in DMF did not result in one-electron oxidation but instead produced heptanuclear [(edt)(2)Mo(2)Fe(5)S(11)](3-) (6), isolated as the Bu(4)N(+)salt (38%). Cluster 6 features the previously unknown core Mo(2)Fe(5)(mu(2)-S)(7)(mu(3)-S)(4) in molecular C(2) symmetry. In 4-6, the (edt)MoS(3) sites are distorted trigonal bipramidal and the FeS(4) sites are distorted tetrahedral with all sulfide ligands bridging. M?ssbauer spectroscopic data for 2 and 4-6 are reported; (mean) iron oxidation states increase in the order 4 < 5 approximately 1 < 6 approximately 2. Redox and spectroscopic data attributed earlier to clusters 2 and 4 are largely in disagreement with those determined in this work. The only iron and molybdenum[bond]iron clusters with the same sulfide content as the iron[bond]molybdenum cofactor of nitrogenase are [Fe(6)S(9)(SR)(2)](4-) and [(edt)(2)Mo(2)Fe(4)S(9)](3-)(,4-).  相似文献

A method has been devised that creates a planar Ni(II) site from a tetrahedral site in a NiFe(3)S(4) cubane-type cluster. Reaction of [(Ph(3)P)NiFe(3)S(4)(LS(3))](2)(-) (2) with 1,2-bis(dimethylphosphino)ethane affords [(dmpe)NiFe(3)S(4)(LS(3))](2)(-) (3), isolated in ca. 45% yield as (Et(4)N)(2)[3a].2.5MeCN and (Et(4)N)(2)[3b].0.25MeCN, both of which occur in triclinic space group P. Each crystalline form contains two crystallographically inequivalent clusters with the same overall structure but slightly different dimensions. The cluster is bound by three thiolate terminal ligands to semirigid cavitand ligand LS(3). The NiFe(3)S(4) core contains three tetrahedral sites, one Fe(micro(3)-S)(3)(SR) and two Fe(micro(3)-S)(2)(micro(2)-S)(SR) with normal metric features, and one distorted square planar Ni(micro(3)-S)(2)P(2) site in a Ni(micro(3)-S)(2)Fe face with mean bond lengths Ni-P = 2.147(9) A and Ni-S = 2.29(2) A. The opposite Fe(2)(micro(3)-S)(micro(2)-S) face places the micro(2)-S atom at nonbonding and variable distances (2.60-2.90 A) above the nickel atom. Binding of the strong-field ligand dmpe results in a planar Ni(II) site and deconstruction of the full cubane geometry. The structure approximates that established crystallographically in the C-cluster of C. hydrogenoformans carbon monoxide dehydrogenase whose NiFe(4)S(4) core contains a planar NiS(4) site and three tetrahedral FeS(4) sites in a fragment that is bridged by sulfide atoms to an exo iron atom. M?ssbauer studies of polycrystalline samples containing both clusters 3a and 3b reveal the presence of at least two cluster types. The spectroscopically best defined cluster accounts for ca. 54% of total iron and exhibits hyperfine interactions quite similar to those reported for the S = (5)/(2) state of the protein-bound cubane-type cluster [ZnFe(3)S(4)](1+), whose M?ssbauer spectrum revealed the presence of a high-spin Fe(2+) site and a delocalized Fe(2.5+)Fe(2.5+) pair. Development of reactions leading to a planar nickel and a sulfide-bridged iron atom is requisite to attainment of a synthetic analogue of this complex protein-bound cluster. This work demonstrates a tetrahedral (2) --> planar (3) Ni(II) stereochemical conversion can be effected by binding of ligands that generate a sufficiently strong in-plane ligand field (dmpe = 1,2-bis(dimethylphosphino)ethane, LS(3) = 1,3,5-tris((4,6-dimethyl-3-mercaptophenyl)thio)-2,4,6-tris(p-tolylthio)benzene(3-)).  相似文献

High-level ab initio calculations using the CASPT2 method and extensive basis sets were performed on the energy differences of the high-[(5)T(2g):t(2g) (4)e(g) (2)] and low-[(1)A(1g):t(2g) (6)] spin states of the pseudo-octahedral Fe(II) complexes [Fe(H(2)O)(6)](2+), [Fe(NH(3))(6)](2+), and [Fe(bpy)(3)](2+). The results are compared to the results obtained from density functional theory calculations with the generalized gradient approximation functional BP86 and two hybrid functionals B3LYP and PBE0, and serve as a calibration for the latter methods. We find that large basis set CASPT2 calculations may provide results for the high-spin/low-spin splitting DeltaE(HL) that are accurate to within 1000 cm(-1), provided they are based on an adequately large CAS[10,12] reference wave function. The latter condition was found to be much more stringent for [Fe(bpy)(3)](2+) than for the other two complexes. Our "best" results for DeltaE(HL) (including a zero-point energy correction) are -17 690 cm(-1) for [Fe(H(2)O)(6)](2+), -8389 cm(-1) for [Fe(NH(3))(6)](2+), and 3820 cm(-1) for [Fe(bpy)(3)](2+).  相似文献

The interactions of the iron monocation with water molecules and argon atoms in the gas phase were studied computationally to elucidate recent infrared vibrational spectroscopy on this system. These calculations employ first-principles all-electron methods performed with B3LYP/DZVP density functional theory. The ground state of Fe(+)(H(2)O) is found to be a quartet (M = 2S + 1 = 4, S is the total spin). Different binding sites for the addition of one or two argon atoms produce several low-lying states of different geometry and multiplicity in a relatively small energy range for Fe(+)(H(2)O)-Ar(2) and Fe(+)(H(2)O)(2)-Ar. In both species, quartet states are lowest in energy, and sextets and doublets lie at higher energies from the respective ground states. These results are consistent with the conclusion that the experimentally determined infrared photodissociation spectra (IRPD) of Fe(+)(H(2)O)-Ar(2) and Fe(+)(H(2)O)(2)-Ar are complicated because of the presence of multiple isomeric structures. The estimated IR bands for the symmetric and asymmetric O-H stretches from different isomers provide new insight into the observed IRPD spectra.  相似文献

Synthesis of an analogue of the C-cluster of C. hydrogenoformans carbon monoxide dehydrogenase requires formation of a planar Ni(II) site and attachment of an exo iron atom in the core unit NiFe(4)S(5). The first objective has been achieved by two reactions: (i) displacement of Ph(3)P or Bu(t)()NC at tetrahedral Ni(II) sites of cubane-type [NiFe(3)S(4)](+) clusters with chelating diphosphines, and (ii) metal atom incorporation into a cuboidal [Fe(3)S(4)](0) cluster with a M(0) reactant in the presence of bis(1,2-dimethylphosphino)ethane (dmpe). The isolated product clusters [(dmpe)MFe(3)S(4)(LS(3))](2-) (M = Ni(II) (9), Pd(II) (12), Pt(II) (13); LS(3) = 1,3,5-tris((4,6-dimethyl-3-mercaptophenyl)thio)-2,4,6-tris(p-tolylthio)benzene(3-)) contain the cores [MFe(3)(mu(2)-S)(mu(3)-S)(3)](+) having planar M(II)P(2)S(2) sites and variable nonbonding M...S distances of 2.6-3.4 A. Reaction (i) involves a tetrahedral --> planar Ni(II) structural change between isomeric cubane and cubanoid [NiFe(3)S(4)](+) cores. Based on the magnetic properties of 12 and earlier considerations, the S = (5)/(2) ground state of the cubanoid cluster arises from the [Fe(3)S(4)](-) fragment, whereas the S = (3)/(2) ground state of the cubane cluster is a consequence of antiferromagnetic coupling between the spins of Ni(2+) (S = 1) and [Fe(3)S(4)](-). Other substitution reactions of [NiFe(3)S(4)](+) clusters and 1:3 site-differentiated [Fe(4)S(4)](2+) clusters are described, as are the structures of 12, 13, [(Me(3)P)NiFe(3)S(4)(LS(3))](2-), and [Fe(4)S(4)(LS(3))L'](2-) (L' = Me(2)NC(2)H(4)S(-), Ph(2)P(O)C(2)H(4)S(-)). This work significantly expands our initial report of cluster 9 (Panda et al. J. Am. Chem. Soc. 2004, 126, 6448-6459) and further demonstrates that a planar M(II) site can be stabilized within a cubanoid [NiFe(3)S(4)](+) core.  相似文献

New heterobimetallic tetranuclear complexes of formula [Fe(III){B(pz)(4)}(CN)(2)(μ-CN)Mn(II)(bpy)(2)](2)(ClO(4))(2)·CH(3)CN (1), [Fe(III){HB(pz)(3)}(CN)(2)(μ-CN)Ni(II)(dmphen)(2)](2)(ClO(4))(2)·2CH(3)OH (2a), [Fe(III){B(pz)(4)}(CN)(2)(μ-CN)Ni(II)(dmphen)(2)](2)(ClO(4))(2)·2CH(3)OH (2b), [Fe(III){HB(pz)(3)}(CN)(2)(μ-CN)Co(II)(dmphen)(2)](2)(ClO(4))(2)·2CH(3)OH (3a), and [Fe(III){B(pz)(4)}(CN)(2)(μ-CN)Co(II)(dmphen)(2)](2)(ClO(4))(2)·2CH(3)OH (3b), [HB(pz)(3)(-) = hydrotris(1-pyrazolyl)borate, B(Pz)(4)(-) = tetrakis(1-pyrazolyl)borate, dmphen = 2,9-dimethyl-1,10-phenanthroline, bpy = 2,2'-bipyridine] have been synthesized and structurally and magnetically characterized. Complexes 1-3b have been prepared by following a rational route based on the self-assembly of the tricyanometalate precursor fac-[Fe(III)(L)(CN)(3)](-) (L = tridentate anionic ligand) and cationic preformed complexes [M(II)(L')(2)(H(2)O)(2)](2+) (L' = bidentate α-diimine type ligand), this last species having four blocked coordination sites and two labile ones located in cis positions. The structures of 1-3b consist of cationic tetranuclear Fe(III)(2)M(II)(2) square complexes [M = Mn (1), Ni (2a and 2b), Co (3a and 3b)] where corners are defined by the metal ions and the edges by the Fe-CN-M units. The charge is balanced by free perchlorate anions. The [Fe(L)(CN)(3)](-) complex in 1-3b acts as a ligand through two cyanide groups toward two divalent metal complexes. The magnetic properties of 1-3b have been investigated in the temperature range 2-300 K. A moderately strong antiferromagnetic interaction between the low-spin Fe(III) (S = 1/2) and high-spin Mn(II) (S = 5/2) ions has been found for 1 leading to an S = 4 ground state (J(1) = -6.2 and J(2) = -2.7 cm(-1)), whereas a moderately strong ferromagnetic interaction between the low-spin Fe(III) (S = 1/2) and high-spin Ni(II) (S = 1) and Co(II) (S = 3/2) ions has been found for complexes 2a-3b with S = 3 (2a and 2b) and S = 4 (3a and 3b) ground spin states [J(1) = +21.4 cm(-1) and J(2) = +19.4 cm(-1) (2a); J(1) = +17.0 cm(-1) and J(2) = +12.5 cm(-1) (2b); J(1) = +5.4 cm(-1) and J(2) = +11.1 cm(-1) (3a); J(1) = +8.1 cm(-1) and J(2) = +11.0 cm(-1) (3b)] [the exchange Hamiltonian being of the type H? = -J(S?(i)·S?(j))]. Density functional theory (DFT) calculations have been used to substantiate the nature and magnitude of the exchange magnetic coupling observed in 1-3b and also to analyze the dependence of the exchange magnetic coupling on the structural parameters of the Fe-C-N-M skeleton.  相似文献

DFT calculations have underscored the importance of the tripodal supporting ligand in tuning the spin-state energetics of pseudotetrahedral transition metal imido complexes. In particular, we have focused on Co(III)-imido complexes, where our best estimate (OLYP) of the singlet-triplet splitting varies from 0.75 eV for a trisphosphine complex (1) and 0.3 eV for a tris(N-heteroyclic-carbene) complex (2) to essentially 0.0 eV for a hydrotris(pyrazolyl)borate (3) complex. The experimentally studied analogues of 1, 2, and 3 all exhibit S = 0 ground states; however, the experimental analogue of 3 exhibits spin-crossover behavior due to a low-lying S = 1 state. Interestingly, whereas all the pure functionals examined successfully predict nearly equienergetic singlet end triplet states for 3, the hybrid functionals B3LYP and O3LYP exhibit a clear (and incorrect) preference for the S = 2 state. In addition, we have also carried out an exploratory survey of Cr(III), Mn(III), and Fe(III) imido complexes with trisphosphine and hydrotris(pyrazolyl)borate (Tp) supporting ligands. Among the more interesting predictions of this study is that an FeIII(Tp)(imido) species should exhibit a high-spin S = 5/2 ground state, which would be unique for an iron-imido complex.  相似文献

(12/12)CASPT2, (16/14)CASPT2, B3LYP, and CCSD(T) calculations have been carried out on 1,8-Naphthoquinone (1,8- NQ ), to predict the low-lying electronic states and their relative energies in this non-Kekulé quinone diradical. CASPT2 predicts a 1A1 ground state, with three other electronic states—3B2, 3B1, and 1B1—within about 10 kcal/mol of the ground state in energy. On the basis of the results of these calculations, it is predicted that NIPES experiments on 1,8- NQ •– will find that 1,8- NQ is a diradical with a singlet ground state. © 2018 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.  相似文献

The 1 (2)A(1), 1 (2)B(2), and 1 (2)A(2) electronic states of the SO(2) (+) ion have been studied using multiconfiguration second-order perturbation theory (CASPT2) and two contracted atomic natural orbital basis sets, S[6s4p3d1f]/O[5s3p2d1f] (ANO-L) and S[4s3p2d]/O[3s2p1d] (ANO-S), and the three states were considered to correspond to the observed X, B, and A states, respectively, in the previous experimental and theoretical studies. Based on the CASPT2/ANO-L adiabatic excitation energy calculations, the X, A, and B states of SO(2) (+) are assigned to 1 (2)A(1), 1 (2)B(2), and 1 (2)A(2), respectively, and our assignments of the A and B states are contrary to the previous assignments (A to (2)A(2) and B to (2)B(2)). The CASPT2/ANO-L energetic calculations also indicate that the 1 (2)A(1), 1 (2)B(2), and 1 (2)A(2) states are, respectively, the ground, first excited, and second excited states at the ground-state (1 (2)A(1)) geometry of the ion and at the geometry of the ground-state SO(2) molecule. Based on the CASPT2/ANO-L results for the geometries, we realize that the experimental geometries (determined by assuming the bond lengths to be the same as the neutral ground state of SO(2)) were not accurate. The CASPT2/ANO-S calculations for the potential energy curves as functions of the OSO angle confirm that the 1 (2)B(2) and 1 (2)A(2) states are the results of the Renner-Teller effect in the degenerate (2)Pi(g) state at the linear geometry, and it is clearly shown that the 1 (2)B(2) curve, as the lower component of the Renner splitting, lies below the 1 (2)A(2) curve. The UB3LYP/cc-pVTZ adiabatic excitation energy calculations support the assignments (A to (2)B(2) and B to (2)A(2)) based on the CASPT2/ANO-L calculations.  相似文献

Iron-oxophlorin is an intermediate in heme degradation, and the nature of the axial ligand can alter the spin, electron distribution, and reactivity of the metal and the oxophlorin ring. The structure and reactivity of iron-oxophlorin in the presence of imidazole, pyridine, and t-butyl isocyanide as axial ligands was investigated using the B3LYP and OPBE methods with the 6-31+G* and 6-311+G** basis sets. OPBE/6-311+G** has shown that the doublet state of [(Py)(2)Fe(III)(PO)] (where pyridines are in perpendicular planes and PO is the oxophlorin trianion) is 3.45 and 5.27 kcal/mol more stable than the quartet and sextet states, respectively. The ground-state electronic configuration of the aforementioned complex is π(xz)(2) π(yz)(2) a(2u)(2) d(xy)(1) at low temperatures and changes to π(xz)(2) π(yz)(2) d(xy)(2) a(2u)(1) at high temperatures. This latter electronic configuration is consistently seen for the [(t-BuNC)(2)Fe(II)(PO(?))] complex (where PO(?) is the oxophlorin dianion radical). The complex [(Im)(2)Fe(III)(PO)] adopted the d(xy)(2) (π(xz) π(yz))(3) ground state and has low-lying quartet excited state which is readily populated when the temperature is increased.  相似文献

Density functional theory (DFT) calculations on trans-dioxo metal complexes containing saturated amine ligands, trans-[M(O)2(NH3)2(NMeH2)2]2+ (M=Fe, Ru, Os), were performed with different types of density functionals (DFs): 1) pure generalized gradient approximations (pure GGAs): PW91, BP86, and OLYP; 2) meta-GGAs: VSXC and HCTH407; and 3) hybrid DFs: B3LYP and PBE1PBE. With pure GGAs and meta-GGAs, a singlet d2 ground state for trans-[Fe(O)2(NH3)2(NMeH2)2]2+ was obtained, but a quintet ground state was predicted by the hybrid DFs B3LYP and PBE1PBE. The lowest transition energies in water were calculated to be at lambda approximately 509 and 515 nm in the respective ground-state geometries from PW91 and B3LYP calculations. The nature of this transition is dependent on the DFs used: a ligand-to-metal charge-transfer (LMCT) transition with PW91, but a pi(Fe-O)-->pi*(Fe-O) transition with B3LYP, in which pi and pi* are the bonding and antibonding combinations between the dpi(Fe) and ppi(O(2-)) orbitals. The FeVI/V reduction potential of trans-[Fe(O)2(NH3)2NMeH2)2]2+ was estimated to be +1.30 V versus NHE based on PW91 results. The [Fe(qpy)(O)2](n+) (qpy=2,2':6',2':6',2':6',2'-quinquepyridine; n=1 and 2) ions, tentatively assigned to dioxo iron(V) and dioxo iron(VI), respectively, were detected in the gas phase by high-resolution ESI-MS spectroscopy.  相似文献

The coordination chemistry of the ligands o-aminothiophenol, H(abt), 4,6-di-tert-butyl-2-aminothiophenol, H[L(AP)], and 1,2-ethanediamine-N,N'-bis(2-benzenethiol), H(4)('N(2)S(2')), with FeCl(2) under strictly anaerobic and increasingly aerobic conditions has been systematically investigated. Using strictly anaerobic conditions, the neutral, air-sensitive, yellow complexes (mu-S,S)[Fe(II)(abt)(2)](2) (1), (mu-S,S)[Fe(II)(L(AP))(2)](2).8CH(3)OH (2), and (mu-S,S)[Fe(II)('H(2)N(2)S(2'))](2).CH(3)CN (3) containing high spin ferrous ions have been isolated where (abt)(1-), (L(AP))(1-), and ('H(2)N(2)S(2'))(2-) represent the respective N,S-coordinated, aromatic o-aminothiophenolate derivative of these ligands. When the described reaction was carried out in the presence of trace amounts of O(2) and [PPh(4)]Br, light-green crystals of [PPh(4)][Fe(II)(abt)(2)(itbs)].[PPh(4)]Br (4) were isolated. The anion [Fe(II)(abt)(2)(itbs)](-) contains a high spin ferrous ion, two N,S-coordinated o-aminophenolate(1-) ligands, and an S-bound, monoanionic o-iminothionebenzosemiquinonate(1-) pi radical, (itbs)(-). Complex 4 possesses an S(t) = 3/2 ground state. In the absence of [PPh(4)]Br and presence of a base NEt(3) and a little O(2), the ferric dimer (mu-NH,NH)[Fe(III)(L(AP))(L(IP))](2) (5a) and its isomer (mu-S,S)[Fe(III)(L(AP))(L(IP))](2) (5b) formed. (L(IP))(2-) represents the aromatic o-iminothiophenolate(2-) dianion of H[L(AP)]. The structures of compounds 2, 4, and 5a have been determined by X-ray crystallography at 100(2) K. Zero-field M?ssbauer spectroscopy of 1, 2, 3, and 4 unambiguously shows the presence of high spin ferrous ions: The isomer shift at 80 K is in the narrow range 0.85-0.92 mm s(-1), and a large quadrupole splitting, |DeltaE(Q)|, in the range 3.24-4.10 mm s(-1), is observed. In contrast, 5a and 5b comprise both intermediate spin ferric ions (S(Fe) = 3/2) which couple antiferromagnetically in the dinuclear molecules yielding an S(t) = 0 ground state.  相似文献

Crystallographic studies of [Fe(SR)(4)](2-) (R is an alkyl or aryl residue) have shown that the Fe(II)S(4) cores of these complexes have (pseudo) D2d symmetry. Here we analyze the possibility that these structures result from a Jahn-Teller (JT) distortion that arises from the e(3z(2) - r(2), x(2) - y(2)) orbital ground state of Fe(II) in T(d)symmetry. Special attention is paid to the influence of the second-nearest neighbors of Fe, which lowers the symmetry and reduces the full JT effect to a smaller, pseudo JT effect (PJT). To estimate the size of the PJT distortion, we have determined the vibronic parameters and orbital state energies for a number of [Fe(SR)(4)](2-) models using density functional theory (DFT). Subsequently, this information is used for evaluating the adiabatic potential surfaces in the space of the JT-active coordinates of the FeS(4) moiety. The surfaces reveal that the JT effect of Fe(II) is completely quenched by the tetrathiolate coordination.  相似文献
