Angular Momentum in Quantum Physics,by L.C. Biedenharn and J.D. Louck

An account is given of the Brillouin scattering of light from liquids. Different contributions to the Brillouin spectrum are discussed and are shown to depend on liquid properties such as sound velocity, viscosity, thermal conductivity, structural relaxation and concentration effects. The importance of these measurements to liquid-state theory is emphasized. Stimulated Brillouin scattering is briefly explained. Finally, the use of the Fabry-Perot interferometer in these experiments is discussed.

This brief preface explains why the editorial board of the journal Yadernaya Fizika (Physics o f Atomic Nuclei) decided to reprint the article of the three authors, which was published in 1928 and which is hardly accessible to the present-day reader; tells briefly the history of its creation; and traces, from 1881 to 2001, the fate of the questions discussed in it and the impact of this article on modern fundamental physics.

Defect annealing in phosphorus implanted silicon: A D.L.T.S. study

Deep-level transient spectroscopy (D.L.T.S.) has been applied to the determination of defects in ion implanted silicon. Preliminary results concerning defects introduced by 130 KeV phosphorous ion implantation are described. Four electron traps are found: atE _c -0.21 eV,E _c -0.39 eV,E _c -0.52 eV andE _c -0.58 eV and their cross-sections estimated.
