We study the near horizon geometry of charged rotating black holes in toroidal compactifications of heterotic string theory. We analyze the extremal vanishing horizon (EVH) limit for these black hole solutions and we will show that the near horizon geometry develops an AdS3 throat. Furthermore, we will show that the near horizon limit of near EVH black holes has a BTZ factor. We also comment on the CFT dual to this near horizon geometry.  相似文献

A simple mechanism for spacetime supersymmetry breaking in the ten-dimensional heterotic string theory is proposed. We present a heterotic string model with a hidden two-dimensional sigma-model sector which can induce desirably small supersymmetry breaking, without upsetting the zero value of the cosmological constant, through a topological instanton effect due to an abelian gauge field on the string world sheet. We find that the consistency condition of the gravitino field equation is satisfied for some configurations even after supersymmetry breaking.  相似文献

The theory of interacting heterotic strings is presented. Vertex operators are derived in both the bosonic and fermionic formulations of the theory and are shown to be consistent with gauge invariance, Lorentz invariance, and supersymmetry. Three- and four-point amplitudes for the scattering of massless string states are calculated and used to derive the low-energy field theory limit of the heterotic string. Divergences in string theories are discussed and it is shown that one-loop heterotic string amplitudes are finite and modular invariant only for gauge group E8×E8 or spin (32)/Z2.  相似文献

A suggestion on how black holes may appear in Das-Jevicki collective field theory is given. We study the behaviour of a “test” particle when energy is sent into the system. A perturbation moving near the potential barrier can create a large-distance black hole geometry where the seeming curvature singularity is at the position of the barrier. In the simplest “static” case the exact D=2 black hole metric emerges.  相似文献

The observable gravitational and electromagnetic parameters of an electron determine that its background should be the Kerr-Newman (KN) solution of the rotating black hole without horizons. This metric has a topological defect—the Kerr singular ring which, as we show, is a closed heterotic string of the Compton radius a = ?/(2m). We show that the Dirac equation emerges as a consequence of the underlying KN gravity and string theory. Regularization of the KN solution leads to a model of gravitating soliton of the oscillon type, in which the closed heterotic string is positioned on the edge rim of a disklike vacuum bubble. It is suggested that the string-like core of the electron should be experimentally observable by the novel methods of the “Deeply Virtual (nonforward) Compton scattering”.  相似文献

The equations of motion of the massless sector of the two dimensional string theory, obtained by compactifying the heterotic string theory on an eight dimensional torus, is known to have an affine o(8,24) symmetry algebra generating an O(8,24) loop group. In this paper we study how various known discrete S- and T- duality symmetries of the theory are embedded in this loop group. This allows us to identify the generators of the discrete duality symmetry group of the two dimensional string theory.  相似文献

The open p-adic string world sheet is a coset space F=T/, where T is the Bruhat-Tits tree for the p-adic linear group GL(2, p ) and PGL(2, p ) is some Schottky group. The string dynamics is governed by the local action on F, with the fields taking values in a compact group G. We find the correlation functions and partition functions for the p-adic string surfaces of arbitrary genus and G=U(1)xD (D-dimensional torus).  相似文献

It is shown that the Type IIA superstring compactified on K3 has a smooth string soliton with the same zero mode structure as the heterotic string compactified on a four-torus, thus providing new evidence for a conjectured exact duality between the two six-dimensional string theories. The chiral worldsheet bosons arise as zero modes of Ramond-Ramond fields of the IIA string theory and live on a signature (20,4) even, self-dual lattice. Stable, finite loops of soliton string provide the charged Ramond-Ramond states necessary for enhanced gauge symmetries at degeneration points of the K3 surface. It is also shown that Type IIB strings toroidally compactified to six dimensions have a multiplet of string solutions with Type II worldsheets.  相似文献

We calculate the density of states with given mass and spin in string theory and obtain asymptotic formulas. We also compute the tree-level magnetic dipole moments of arbitrary physical states in the heterotic string theory. These results are then applied to study whether fundamental strings can consistently describe the microphysics of the black hole horizon in the case of a general classical solution characterized by mass, charge and angular momentum.  相似文献
