The paper provides new characterisations of generators of cosine functions and C 0-groups on UMD spaces and their applications to some classical problems in cosine function theory. In particular, we show that on UMD spaces, generators of cosine functions and C 0-groups can be characterised by means of a complex inversion formula. This allows us to provide a strikingly elementary proof of Fattorini’s result on square root reduction for cosine function generators on UMD spaces. Moreover, we give a cosine function analogue of McIntosh’s characterisation of the boundedness of the H functional calculus for sectorial operators in terms of square function estimates. Another result says that the class of cosine function generators on a Hilbert space is exactly the class of operators which possess a dilation to a multiplication operator on a vector-valued L 2 space. Finally, we prove a cosine function analogue of the Gomilko-Feng-Shi characterisation of C 0-semigroup generators and apply it to answer in the affirmative a question by Fattorini on the growth bounds of perturbed cosine functions on Hilbert spaces.  相似文献

We study conical square function estimates for Banach-valued functions and introduce a vector-valued analogue of the Coifman-Meyer-Stein tent spaces. Following recent work of Auscher-McIntosh-Russ, the tent spaces in turn are used to construct a scale of vector-valued Hardy spaces associated with a given bisectorial operator A with certain off-diagonal bounds such that A always has a bounded H -functional calculus on these spaces. This provides a new way of proving functional calculus of A on the Bochner spaces L p (ℝ n ; X) by checking appropriate conical square function estimates and also a conical analogue ofBourgain’s extension of the Littlewood-Paley theory to the UMD-valued context. Even when X = ℂ, our approach gives refined p-dependent versions of known results.  相似文献

This paper is concerned with computable and guaranteed upper bounds of the difference between exact solutions of variational inequalities arising in the theory of viscous fluids and arbitrary approximations in the corresponding energy space. Such estimates (also called error majorants of functional type) have been derived for the considered class of nonlinear boundary‐value problems in (Math. Meth. Appl. Sci. 2006; 29:2225–2244) with the help of variational methods based on duality theory from convex analysis. In the present paper, it is shown that error majorants can be derived in a different way by certain transformations of the variational inequalities that define generalized solutions. The error bounds derived by this techniques for the velocity function differ from those obtained by the variational method. These estimates involve only global constants coming from Korn‐ and Friedrichs‐type inequalities, which are not difficult to evaluate in case of Dirichlet boundary conditions. For the case of mixed boundary conditions, we also derive another form of the estimate that contains only one constant coming from the following assertion: the L2 norm of a vector‐valued function from H1(Ω) in the factor space generated by the equivalence with respect to rigid motions is bounded by the L2 norm of the symmetric part of the gradient tensor. As for some ‘simple’ domains such as squares or cubes, the constants in this inequality can be found analytically (or numerically), we obtain a unified form of an error majorant for any domain that admits a decomposition into such subdomains. We prove comparison theorems for the H -calculus that allow to transfer the property of having a bounded H -calculus from one sectorial operator to another. The basic technical ingredient are suitable square function estimates. These comparison results provide a new approach to perturbation theorems for the H -calculus in a variety of situations suitable for applications. Our square function estimates also give rise to a new interpolation method, the Rademacher interpolation. We show that a bounded H -calculus is characterized by interpolation of the domains of fractional powers with respect to Rademacher interpolation. This leads to comparison and perturbation results for operators defined in interpolation scales such as the L p -scale. We apply the results to give new proofs on the H -calculus for elliptic differential operators, including Schrödinger operators and perturbed boundary conditions. As new results we prove that elliptic boundary value problems with bounded uniformly coefficients have a bounded H -calculus in certain Sobolev spaces and that the Stokes operator on bounded domains Ω with ?Ω ∈ C 1,1 has a bounded H -calculus in the Helmholtz scale L p,σ (Ω), p ∈ (1,∞).  相似文献

Let (E,H,μ) be an abstract Wiener space and let DV:=VD, where D denotes the Malliavin derivative and V is a closed and densely defined operator from H into another Hilbert space . Given a bounded operator B on , coercive on the range , we consider the operators A:=V*BV in H and in , as well as the realisations of the operators and in Lp(E,μ) and respectively, where 1<p<∞. Our main result asserts that the following four assertions are equivalent:
(1) with for ;
(2) admits a bounded H-functional calculus on ;
(3) with for ;
(4) admits a bounded H-functional calculus on .
Moreover, if these conditions are satisfied, then . The equivalence (1)–(4) is a non-symmetric generalisation of the classical Meyer inequalities of Malliavin calculus (where , V=I, ). A one-sided version of (1)–(4), giving Lp-boundedness of the Riesz transform in terms of a square function estimate, is also obtained. As an application let −A generate an analytic C0-contraction semigroup on a Hilbert space H and let −L be the Lp-realisation of the generator of its second quantisation. Our results imply that two-sided bounds for the Riesz transform of L are equivalent with the Kato square root property for A. The boundedness of the Riesz transform is used to obtain an Lp-domain characterisation for the operator L.

For an abstract self-adjoint operator L and a local operator A we study the boundedness of the Riesz transform AL on Lp for some > 0. A very simple proof of the obtained result is based on the finite speed propagation property for the solution of the corresponding wave equation. We also discuss the relation between the Gaussian bounds and the finite speed propagation property. Using the wave equation methods we obtain a new natural form of the Gaussian bounds for the heat kernels for a large class of the generating operators. We describe a surprisingly elementary proof of the finite speed propagation property in a more general setting than it is usually considered in the literature.As an application of the obtained results we prove boundedness of the Riesz transform on Lp for all p (1,2] for Schrödinger operators with positive potentials and electromagnetic fields. In another application we discuss the Gaussian bounds for the Hodge Laplacian and boundedness of the Riesz transform on Lp of the Laplace-Beltrami operator on Riemannian manifolds for p > 2.Mathematics Subject Classification (1991): 42B20The author was partially supported by Summer Research Award from New Mexico State University.in final form: 8 June 2003  相似文献

We consider several results, each of which uses some type of “L 2” estimate to provide information about harmonic measure on planar domains. The first gives an a.e. characterization of tangent points of a curve in terms of a certain geometric square function. Our next result is anL p estimate relating the derivative of a conformal mapping to its Schwarzian derivative. One consequence of this is an estimate on harmonic measure generalizing Lavrentiev’s estimate for rectifiable domains. Finally, we considerL 2 estimates for Schwarzian derivatives and the question of when a Riemann mapping ϕ has log ϕ′ in BMO. Supported in part by NSF Grant DMS-91-00671. Perturbed Hodge-Dirac operators and their holomorphic functional calculi, as investigated in the papers by Axelsson, Keith and the second author, provided insight into the solution of the Kato square-root problem for elliptic operators in L2 spaces and allowed for an extension of these estimates to other systems with applications to non-smooth boundary value problems. In this paper, we determine conditions under which such operators satisfy conical square function estimates in a range of L p spaces, thus allowing us to apply the theory of Hardy spaces associated with an operator to prove that they have a bounded holomorphic functional calculus in those L p spaces. We also obtain functional calculus results for restrictions to certain subspaces, for a larger range of p. This provides a framework for obtaining L p results on perturbed Hodge Laplacians, generalising known Riesz transform bounds for an elliptic operator L with bounded measurable coefficients, one Sobolev exponent below the Hodge exponent, and L p bounds on the square-root of L by the gradient, two Sobolev exponents below the Hodge exponent. Our proof shows that the heart of the harmonic analysis in L2 extends to L p for all p ∈ (1,∞), while the restrictions in p come from the operator-theoretic part of the L2 proof. In the course of our work, we obtain some results of independent interest about singular integral operators on tent spaces and about the relationship between conical and vertical square functions.  相似文献

We introduce a quantitative version of Property A in order to estimate the L p -compressions of a metric measure space X. We obtain various estimates for spaces with sub-exponential volume growth. This quantitative property A also appears to be useful to yield upper bounds on the L p -distortion of finite metric spaces. Namely, we obtain new optimal results for finite subsets of homogeneous Riemannian manifolds. We also introduce a general form of Poincaré inequalities that provide constraints on compressions, and lower bounds on distortion. These inequalities are used to prove the optimality of some of our results.   相似文献

We provide a proof of sharp lower L p bounds for powers of the Ahlfors–Beurling operator T and improve the numerical constant in their asymptotic estimates. We also discuss the possibilities of applying de Branges’ theorem in the p − 1 problem.  相似文献

Given a positive C0-semigroup T0 on L2(Ω, m) with a kernel k0, where (Ω, m) is a σ-finite measure space, we study a suitably perturbed semigroup T and prove existence of a kernel k for T and an estimate of the k in terms of k0. In this way we extend a heat kernel estimate proven by Barlow, Grigor’yan and Kumagai [4] for Dirichlet forms perturbed by jump processes. (© 2014 Wiley-VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. Let L 0A,P) be the space of equivalent classes of random variables defined on a probability space (Ω,A,P). Let H be the closed subspace of L 0(Ω,A,P) spanned by a sequence of i.i.d. (independent and identically distributed) random variables having the symmetric nondegenerate law F. It is proved that H is linearly homeomorphic to l p for 0<p≤2 if F belongs to the domain of normal attraction of symmetric stable law withexponent p.  相似文献

An analogue of the so—called Sunouchi operator with respect to the Walsh—Kaczmarz system will be investigated. We show the boundedness of this operator if we take it as a map from the dyadic Hardy space H p to L p for all 0<p≤1.. For the proof we consider a multiplier operator and prove its (H p H p)—boundedness for 0<p≤1. Since the multiplier is obviously bounded from L 2 to L 2, a theorem on interpolation of operators can be applied to show that our multiplier is of weak type (1,1) and of type (q q) for all 1<q<∞. The same statements follow also for the Sunouchi operator.  相似文献

We obtain size estimates for the distribution function of the bilinear Hilbert transform acting on a pair of characteristic functions of sets of finite measure, that yield exponential decay at infinity and blowup near zero to the power −2/3 (modulo some logarithmic factors). These results yield all known Lp bounds for the bilinear Hilbert transform and provide new restricted weak type endpoint estimates on Lp1 × Lp2 when either 1/p1 + 1/p2 = 3/2 or one of p1, p2 is equal to 1. As a consequence of this work we also obtain that the square root of the bilinear Hilbert transform of two characteristic functions is exponentially integrable over any compact set.  相似文献

We study Riesz transforms associated with a sublaplacian H on a solvable Lie group G, where G has polynomial volume growth. It is known that the standard second order Riesz transforms corresponding to H are generally unbounded in Lp(G). In this paper, we establish boundedness in Lp for modified second order Riesz transforms, which are defined using derivatives on a nilpotent group GN associated with G. Our method utilizes a new algebraic approach which associates a distinguished choice of Cartan subalgebra with the sublaplacian H. We also obtain estimates for higher derivatives of the heat kernel of H, and give a new proof (without the use of homogenization theory) of the boundedness of first order Riesz transforms. Our results can be generalized to an arbitrary (possibly non-solvable) Lie group of polynomial growth.  相似文献

Abstract

Let Ω be a bounded Lipschitz domain in ? n , n ≥ 3 with connected boundary. We study the Robin boundary condition ?u/?N + bu = f ∈ L p (?Ω) on ?Ω for Laplace's equation Δu = 0 in Ω, where b is a non-negative function on ?Ω. For 1 < p < 2 + ?, under suitable compatibility conditions on b, we obtain existence and uniqueness results with non-tangential maximal function estimate ‖(?u)*‖ p  ≤ Cf p , as well as a pointwise estimate for the associated Robin function. Moreover, the solution u is represented by a single layer potential.  相似文献

We show that suitable upper estimates of the heat kernel are sufficient to imply the L p boundedness of several families of operators associated with the Schr?dinger group in various situations. This generalizes results by Sj?strand and others in the Euclidean case, and by Alexopoulos in the case of Lie groups and Riemannian manifolds. We study the convergence rate of an asymptotic expansion for the elliptic and parabolic operators with rapidly oscillating coefficients. First we propose homogenized expansions which are convolution forms of Green function and given force term of elliptic equation. Then, using local Lp-theory, the growth rate of the perturbation of Green function is found. From the representation of elliptic solution by Green function, we estimate the convergence rate in Lp space of the homogenized expansions to the exact solution. Finally, we consider L2(0,T:H1(Ω)) or L∞(Ω×(0,T)) convergence rate of the first order approximation for parabolic homogenization problems.  相似文献

We study the Riesz potentials Iαf on the generalized Lebesgue spaces Lp(·)(?d), where 0 < α < d and Iαf(x) ? ∫equation/tex2gif-inf-3.gif |f(y)| |xy|αd dy. Under the assumptions that p locally satisfies |p(x) – p(x)| ≤ C/(– ln |xy|) and is constant outside some large ball, we prove that Iα : Lp(·)(?d) → Lp?(·)(?d), where . If p is given only on a bounded domain Ω with Lipschitz boundary we show how to extend p to on ?d such that there exists a bounded linear extension operator ? : W1,p(·)(Ω) ? (?d), while the bounds and the continuity condition of p are preserved. As an application of Riesz potentials we prove the optimal Sobolev embeddings Wk,p(·)(?d) ?Lp*(·)(Rd) with and W1,p(·)(Ω) ? Lp*(·)(Ω) for k = 1. We show compactness of the embeddings W1,p(·)(Ω) ? Lq(·)(Ω), whenever q(x) ≤ p*(x) – ε for some ε > 0. (© 2004 WILEY‐VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. KGaA, Weinheim)  相似文献
