A large variety of hybrid computational aeroacoustics (CAA) approaches exist differing from each other in the way the source region is modeled, in the way the equations are used to compute the propagation of acoustic waves in a non-quiescent medium, and in the way the coupling between source and acoustic propagation regions is made. This paper makes a comparison between some commonly used numerical methods for aeroacoustic applications. The aerodynamically generated tonal noise by a flow over a 2D rectangular cavity is investigated. Two different cavities are studied. In the first cavity (L/D=4, M=0.5), the sound field is dominated by the cavity wake mode and its higher harmonics, originating from a periodical vortex shedding at the cavity leading edge. In the second cavity (L/D=2, M=0.6), shear-layer modes, due to flow-acoustic interaction phenomena, generate the major components in the noise spectrum. Source domain modeling is carried out using a second-order finite-volume large eddy simulation. Propagation equations, taking into account convection and refraction effects, are solved using high-order finite-difference schemes for the linearized Euler equations and the acoustic perturbation equations. Both schemes are compared with each other for various coupling methods between source region and acoustic region. Conventional acoustic analogies and Kirchhoff methods are rewritten for the various propagation equations and used to obtain near-field acoustic results. The accuracy of the various coupling methods in identifying the noise-generating mechanisms is evaluated. In this way, this paper provides more insight into the practical use of various hybrid CAA techniques to predict the aerodynamically generated sound field by a flow over rectangular cavities. This paper presents a numerical study of noise source term in non-isothermal flows in the context of an aeroacoustic hybrid technique at low Mach numbers. Asymptotic analysis applied to the fully compressible Navier–Stokes equations provides separated sets of equations for the dynamic of the flow and the production and propagation of acoustic waves. Comparisons with analytical dipole and quadrupole distributions are performed, confirming the dipole type of non-isothermal source distribution. Aeroacoustics simulations require much more precise boundary conditions than classical aerodynamics. Two classes of non‐reflecting boundary conditions for aeroacoustics are compared in the present work: the characteristic analysis‐based methods and the Tam and Dong approach. In the characteristic methods, waves are identified and manipulated at the boundaries, whereas the Tam and Dong approach use modified linearized Euler equations in a buffer zone near outlets to mimic a non‐reflecting boundary. The principles of both approaches are recalled, and recent characteristic methods incorporating the treatment of transverse terms are discussed. Three characteristic techniques—the original Navier–Stokes characteristic boundary conditions (NSCBC) of Poinsot and Lele and two versions of the modified method of Yoo and Im—are compared with the Tam and Dong method for four typical aeroacoustics problems: vortex convection on a uniform flow, vortex convection on a shear flow, acoustic propagation from a monopole, and acoustic propagation from a dipole. Results demonstrate that the Tam and Dong method generally provides the best results and is a serious alternative solution to characteristic methods even though its implementation might require more care than the usual NSCBC approaches. This paper presents an aeroacoustic hybrid technique for the study of non‐isothermal flows at low Mach number. The flow dynamics and the acoustic production and propagation are computed separately. The fully compressible Navier–Stokes equations are modified through an expansion of the physical quantities using a low Mach number approximation. Compressibility effects are thus removed in the CFD while inhomogeneities of the flow related to heat transfer are preserved. One advantage is a reduction of the time step constraint. Another advantage is that the Mach number does not appear explicitly and a simple rescaling allows a study over a relatively wide band of subsonic Mach number flows with a single dynamic simulation. Compatible acoustic source terms for LEE based propagation have been defined and the procedure is implemented in the case of a temporal mixing layer. Compressible simulations for Mach numbers of 0.2, 0.3 and 0.4 are compared with the numerical results obtained using the proposed method. Nonlinear characteristic boundary conditions based on nonlinear multidimensional characteristics are proposed for 2‐ and 3‐D compressible Navier–Stokes equations with/without scalar transport equations. This approach is consistent with the flow physics and transport properties. Based on the theory of characteristics, which is a rigorous mathematical technique, multidimensional flows can be decomposed into acoustic, entropy, and vorticity waves. Nonreflecting boundary conditions are derived by setting corresponding characteristic variables of incoming waves to zero and by partially damping the source terms of the incoming acoustic waves. In order to obtain the resulting optimal damping coefficient, analysis is performed for problems of pure acoustic plane wave propagation and arbitrary flows. The proposed boundary conditions are tested on two benchmark problems: cylindrical acoustic wave propagation and the wake flow behind a cylinder with strong periodic vortex convected out of the computational domain. This new approach substantially minimizes the spurious wave reflections of pressure, density, temperature, and velocity as well as vorticity from the artificial boundaries, where strong multidimensional flow effects exist. The numerical simulations yield accurate results, confirm the optimal damping coefficient obtained from analysis, and verify that the method substantially improves the 1‐D characteristics‐based nonreflecting boundary conditions for complex multidimensional flows. High order finite difference approximations with improved accuracy and stability properties have been developed for computational aeroacoustics (CAA). One of our new difference operators corresponds to Tam and Webb's DRP scheme in the interior, but is modified near the boundaries to be strictly stable. A unified formulation of the nonlinear and linearized Euler equations is used, which can be extended to the Navier–Stokes equations. The approach has been verified for 1D, 2D and axisymmetric test problems. We have simulated the sound propagation from a rocket launch before lift-off. To cite this article: B. Müller, S. This work is concerned with the development of a numerical scheme capable of producing accurate simulations of sound propagation in the presence of a mean flow field. The method is based on the concept of variable decomposition, which leads to two separate sets of equations. These equations are the linearised Euler equations and the Reynolds‐averaged Navier–Stokes equations. This paper concentrates on the development of numerical schemes for the linearised Euler equations that leads to a computational aeroacoustics (CAA) code. The resulting CAA code is a non‐diffusive, time‐ and space‐staggered finite volume code for the acoustic perturbation, and it is validated against analytic results for pure 1D sound propagation and 2D benchmark problems involving sound scattering from a cylindrical obstacle. Predictions are also given for the case of prescribed source sound propagation in a laminar boundary layer as an illustration of the effects of mean convection. A three-dimensional (3D) hybrid LES-acoustic analogy method for computational aeroacoustics (CAA) is presented for the prediction of open-cavity noise. The method uses large-eddy simulation (LES) to compute the acoustic source while the Ffowcs Williams-Hawkings (FW-H) acoustic analogy is employed for the prediction of the far-field sound. As a comparison, a two-dimensional (2D) FW-H analogy is also included. The hybrid method has been assessed in an open-cavity flow at a Mach number of 0.85 and a Reynolds number of Re=1.36×106, where some experimental data are available for comparison. The study has identified some important technical issues in the application of the FW-H acoustic analogy to cavity noise prediction and CAA in general, including the proper selection of the integration period and the modes of sound sources in the frequency domain. The different nature of 2D and 3D wave propagation is also highlighted, which calls for a matching acoustic solver for each problem. The developed hybrid method has shown promise to be a feasible, accurate and computationally affordable approach for CAA.  相似文献

高速列车具有细长形状, 数值评估气动噪声往往需要巨大的计算量.目前对高速列车气动噪声的数值模拟大多基于对简化短编组列车的评估,而实际列车通常具有较长的8$\sim$16节编组.如何基于现有条件合理评价真实长度列车的气动噪声,是一个急需探讨的问题. 本文应用非线性声学求解器(NLAS)和FW--H声学比拟法的混合算法, 先求解噪声积分面上的声场脉动,再进行远场积分, 引入多噪声面积分技术,通过对三种不同长度(3节、4节、6节)列车模型的气动性能和噪声数值模拟,分析了车体长度对列车气动噪声的影响. 结果表明,同一列车模型的各节车厢具有相似的沿线噪声分布,其噪声曲线在量值上十分接近,只是主峰位置会随着车厢空间位置的不同而相应地发生偏移;不同长度编组列车对应部位之间的远场噪声特性具有较强的关联性,它们的远场噪声具有接近的总声压级和噪声频谱.通过利用短编组计算数据进行分解、平移和叠加,成功重构了4编组和6编组列车远场噪声特性,与直接计算结果相比误差在可接受范围内.由此发展了基于短编组列车噪声的数值结果,重构长编组列车沿线噪声的近似评估方法.   相似文献

Discrete and continuous adjoint approaches for use in aerodynamic shape optimization problems at all flow speeds are developed and assessed. They are based on the Navier–Stokes equations with low Mach number preconditioning. By alleviating the large disparity between acoustic waves and fluid speeds, the preconditioned flow and adjoint equations are numerically solved with affordable CPU cost, even at the so‐called incompressible flow conditions. Either by employing the adjoint to the preconditioned flow equations or by preconditioning the adjoint to the ‘standard’ flow equations (under certain conditions the two formulations become equivalent, as proved in this paper), efficient optimization methods with reasonable cost per optimization cycle, even at very low Mach numbers, are derived. During the mathematical development, a couple of assumptions are made which are proved to be harmless to the accuracy in the computed gradients and the effectiveness of the optimization method. An improved hybrid method for computing unsteady compressible viscous flows is presented. This method divides the computational domain into two zones. In the inner zone, the Navier–Stokes equations are solved using a diagonal form of an alternating‐direction implicit (ADI) approximate factorisation procedure. In the outer zone, the unsteady full‐potential equation (FPE) is solved. The two zones are tightly coupled so that steady and unsteady flows may be efficiently solved. Characteristic‐based viscous/inviscid interface boundary conditions are employed to avoid spurious reflections at that interface. The resulting CPU times are about 60% of the full Navier–Stokes CPU times for unsteady flows in non‐vector processing machines. Applications of the method are presented for a F‐5 wing in steady and unsteady transonic flows. Steady surface pressures are in very good agreement with experimental data and are essentially identical to the full Navier–Stokes predictions. Density contours show that shocks cross the viscous/inviscid interface smoothly, so that the accuracy of full Navier–Stokes equations can be retained with significant savings in computational time. A two-way coupling on unstructured meshes between a flow and a high-order acoustic solvers for jet noise prediction is considered. The flow simulation aims at generating acoustic sources in the near field while the acoustic simulation solves the full Euler equations, thanks to a discontinuous Galerkin method, in order to take into account nonlinear acoustic propagation effects. This methodology is firstly validated on academic cases involving nonlinear sound propagation, shock waves and convection of aerodynamic perturbations. The results are compared to analytical solutions and direct computations. A good behaviour of the coupling is found regarding the targeted space applications. An application on a launch pad model is then simulated to demonstrate the robustness and reliability of the present approach.  相似文献

We study the asymptotic behavior of the isentropic Navier–Stokes system driven by a multiplicative stochastic forcing in the compressible regime, where the Mach number approaches zero. Our approach is based on the recently developed concept of a weak martingale solution to the primitive system, uniform bounds derived from a stochastic analogue of the modulated energy inequality, and careful analysis of acoustic waves. A stochastic incompressible Navier–Stokes system is identified as the limit problem.  相似文献

A new artificial boundary condition for two‐dimensional subsonic flows governed by the compressible Navier–Stokes equations is derived. It is based on the hyperbolic part of the equations, according to the way of propagation of the characteristic waves. A reference flow, as well as a convection velocity, is used to properly discretize the terms corresponding to the entering waves. Numerical tests on various classical model problems, whose solutions are known, and comparisons with other boundary conditions (BCs), show the efficiency of the BC. Spatial instability waves associated with lowfrequency noise radiation at shallow polar angles in the chevron jet are investigated and are compared to the round counterpart. The Reynolds-averaged Navier–Stokes equations are solved to obtain the mean flow fields, which serve as the baseflow for linear stability analysis. The chevron jet has more complicated instability waves than the round jet, where three types of instability modes are identified in the vicinity of the nozzle, corresponding to radial shear, azimuthal shear,and their integrated effect of the baseflow, respectively. The most unstable frequency of all chevron modes and round modes in both jets decrease as the axial location moves downstream. Besides, the azimuthal shear effect related modes are more unstable than radial shear effect related modes at low frequencies. Compared to a round jet, a chevron jet reduces the growth rate of the most unstable modes at downstream locations. Moreover, linearized Euler equations are employed to obtain the beam pattern of pressure generated by spatially evolving instability waves at a dominant low frequency St = 0.3, and the acoustic efficiencies of these linear wavepackets are evaluated for both jets. It is found that the acoustic efficiency of linear wavepacket is able to be reduced greatly in the chevron jet, compared to the round jet.  相似文献

A set of non-homogeneous radiation and outflow boundary conditions which automatically generate prescribed incoming acoustic or vorticity waves and, at the same time, are almost transparent to outgoing sound waves produced internally in a finite computation domain is proposed. This type of boundary condition is needed for the numerical solution of many exterior aeroacoustics problems. In computational aeroacoustics, the computation scheme must be as non-dispersive and non-dissipative as possible. It must also support waves with wave speeds which are nearly the same as those of the original linearized Euler equations. To meet these requirements, a high-order/large-stencil scheme is often necessary. The proposed non-homogeneous radiation and outflow boundary conditions are designed primarily for use in conjunction with such high-order/large-stencil finite difference schemes. © 1998 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

The problem of shrouded rotor rotation is numerically solved basing on the Navier–Stokes equations in a noninertial coordinate system. The configuration considered is a model helicopter tail rotor.The calculations are performed using edge-based reconstruction (EBR) schemes on unstructured tetrahedral grids with the variables determined at gridpoints. The numerical results on the aerodynamic forces and the acoustic radiation intensity and direction in the far field are presented and analyzed.  相似文献
