Using aqueous extraction of red sanders powder as a reducing agent, silver and copper bimetallic nanoparticles were in situ generated in cotton fabrics. Silver and copper nanoparticles were also generated separately for comparison. The resulted nanocomposite cotton fabrics (NCFs) were characterized by Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), and antibacterial tests. SEM analysis indicated the generation of more number of nanoparticles when bimetallic source solutions were used. Further, the size range of the generated bimetallic nanoparticles was found to be lower than when individual metal nanoparticles were generated in NCFs. XRD analysis confirmed the in situ generation of silver and copper nanoparticles when equimolar bimetallic salt source solutions were utilized. The NCFs with bimetallic nanoparticles exhibited higher antibacterial activity against both Gram-negative and Gram-positive bacteria and hence can be considered for applications as antibacterial bed and dressing materials.  相似文献

Using tamarind leaf extract as a reducing agent and various concentrated aq?AgNO3 solutions as source, the silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) were in situ generated in polyester fabrics. The nanocomposite polyester fabrics were characterized by scanning electron microscopy, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction and antibacterial tests. The size of the generated AgNPs varied between 50 and 120?nm. The X-ray analysis indicated the generation of both AgNPs and AgO nanoparticles in the nanocomposite fabrics. The nanocomposite polyester fabrics exhibited excellent antibacterial activity against both the Gram negative and Gram positive bacteria and hence can be considered for making antibacterial textiles.  相似文献

In this work, copper nanoparticles were in situ generated in cotton fabrics by simple hydrothermal method. These low-cost nanocomposite fabrics were characterized by scanning electron microscope (SEM), Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction, thermogravimetric analysis, and antibacterial tests. The presence of spherical nanoparticles was visualized by SEM analysis. FTIR spectra did not show any differences between the peak positions of cotton fabrics and their nanocomposites. The crystallinity of cotton nanocomposites was enhanced by the copper nanoparticles. The cotton nanocomposite fabrics exhibited good antibacterial activity against Escherichia coli bacteria and hence can be considered for medical applications such as wound dressing, surgical aprons, hospital bed materials, etc.  相似文献

Nanocomposite cotton fabrics with in situ-generated silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) were prepared by using Pterocarpus santalinus (Red sanders) extract in water as a reducing agent. The formation of AgNPs was analyzed by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) coupled with energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy. The SEM analysis of nanocomposites showed the presence of spherical AgNPs with a size range of 71–90?nm. FTIR spectra showed the involvement of hydroxyl and methylene groups of cellulose matrix in reducing the silver salt into AgNPs in the presence of red sanders powder extract as reducing agent for the in situ generation of AgNPs. These nanocomposite fabrics exhibited good antibacterial activity against Gram positive and Gram negative bacteria.  相似文献

The possibility of in situ photoreduction of Ag+-ions using TiO2 nanoparticles deposited on cotton and cotton/PET fabrics in the presence of amino acid alanine and methyl alcohol has been discussed. The possible interaction between TiO2, alanine and Ag+-ions was evaluated by FTIR analysis. The fabrication of TiO2/Ag nanoparticles on both fabrics was confirmed by SEM, EDX, XRD, XPS and AAS analyses. Cotton and cotton/PET fabrics impregnated with TiO2/Ag nanoparticles provided maximum reduction of Gram-negative bacteria Escherichia coli and Gram-positive bacteria Staphylococcus aureus. Although excellent antibacterial activity was preserved after ten washing cycles, a significant amount of silver leached out from the fabrics into the washing bath. The perspiration fastness assessment revealed that smaller amounts of silver were also released from the fabrics into artificial sweat at pH 5.50 and 8.00. In addition, deposited TiO2/Ag nanoparticles imparted maximum UV protection to fabrics.  相似文献

In the present work, silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) were in situ generated in cellulose matrix using leaf extract of Azadirachta indica as a reducing agent. The cellulose/AgNP composite films prepared were characterized by FTIR, X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscope, and antibacterial tests. The infrared spectra indicated the association of organic materials with silver nanoparticles to serve as capping agents. Scanning electron micrographs showed that synthesized silver nanoparticles were nearly uniform and spherical in shape with diameter in the range of 61–110?nm. XRD confirmed the formation of AgNPs and Ag–O nanoparticles. The nanocomposite films showed good antibacterial activity against Escherichia coli bacteria.  相似文献

The possibility of using a corona treatment (electrical discharge at atmospheric pressure) for fiber surface activation, which can facilitate the loading of silver nanoparticles (NPs) from colloids onto the polyester (PES) and polyamide (PA) fabrics and thus improve their antibacterial properties, was studied. Bactericidal efficiency and its laundering durability on silver‐loaded fabrics for Gram‐positive bacterium Staphylococcus aureus and Gram‐negative bacterium Escherichia coli were evaluated. The fiber morphology after corona treatment and subsequent loading of silver NPs was followed by SEM. Corona‐treated fabrics loaded with silver NPs exhibited better antibacterial properties in comparison with untreated fabrics. In order to obtain acceptable laundering durability, it is necessary to use highly concentrated silver colloids. Copyright © 2008 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

In order to provide antimicrobial activity to cotton, cotton fabrics were treated by montmorillonite (KSF), montmorillonite–dihydroxy ethylene urea (KSF–MDEU), KSF–chitosan (CS) and KSF–CS–MDEU solutions containing 12.5, 25 and 50 ppm silver ion. The effect of modification on the antibacterial activity of cotton fabrics was also evaluated after 10 cycles of washings. MDEU exhibited better antimicrobial activities after washing process. By using 25 ppm silver, KSF and CS modification solution, good performance in terms of antibacterial activity was obtained. The addition of CS and MDEU increased the whiteness index values of cotton fabrics treated with KSF containing different silver concentrations. The characterization of modified cotton samples was done by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction analysis, inductively coupled plasma-mass spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy and thermogravimetric analysis.  相似文献

This study discusses the possibility of using a corona discharge at atmospheric pressure and air RF plasma at low pressure for the cotton fibre activation prior to deposition of colloidal TiO2 nanoparticles in order to enhance antibacterial, UV protective and self-cleaning properties. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) analysis confirmed the presence of TiO2 nanoparticles on the surface of cotton fibres. XPS elemental mapping indicated that TiO2 nanoparticles were more evenly distributed across the surface of untreated and corona pre-treated cotton fabrics in comparison with RF plasma pre-treated fabric. Atomic absorption spectroscopy measurements revealed that the equivalent total content of TiO2 in the cotton fabrics pre-treated by corona and RF plasma was 31% higher than in the fabric that did not undergo any treatment prior to loading of TiO2 nanoparticles. In order to achieve maximum bacteria (Gram-negative bacteria Escherichia coli) reduction, untreated cotton fabric had to be loaded with colloidal TiO2 nanoparticles twice, but only once following corona or RF plasma pre-treatment. Deposition of TiO2 nanoparticles onto cotton fabrics provided maximum UV protective rating of 50+. Extraordinary photocatalytic activity of TiO2 nanoparticles deposited onto cotton fabrics was proved by self-cleaning of blueberry juice stains and photodegradation of methylene blue in aqueous solution under UV illumination.  相似文献

A convenient method for in situ synthesis of silver nanoparticles was developed to realize the multifunction of cotton. The silver nanoparticles were obtained through reduction of silver ions by cotton under basic condition at room temperature. The as-synthesized silver nanoparticles achieved the coloration of cotton fibers. Heating increased the color strength of cotton fibers with silver nanoparticles. Mercerization treatment as a common finishing process enhanced the properties of cotton fibers modified by silver nanoparticles. The mercerized cotton exhibited brighter color and had very good colorfastness to washing. The cotton fibers treated with in situ synthesized silver nanoparticles possess strong antibacterial activity with excellent washing durability.  相似文献

Design of silver nanoparticles containing poly(N-isopropylarclamide) (PNIPAAm) hydrogels were prepared by free-radical polymerization of N-isopropylarclamide as an environmentally sensitive monomer and MBA as a crosslinker in an aqueous medium. The embedded silver nanocomposite hydrogels (AgNCH) structure were characterized by, UV-Vis, FTIR, DLS, TEM and X-ray analysis. Curcumin loading and release characteristics were performed for PNIPAAm hydrogel, silver ions loaded hydrogels as well as silver nanocomposite hydrogels. These curcumin loaded silver nanocomposite hydrogels exhibit excellent antibacterial action on Escherichia coli (E. coli). Therefore, the present study clearly provides novel antimicrobial hydrogels which are potentially useful in biomedical applications.  相似文献

Chitosan‐carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC) full polysaccharide membrane was prepared by cross‐linking of chitosan with CMC dialdehyde and subsequent reductive amination. CMC dialdehyde molecule was prepared by periodate oxidation of CMC and then applied as a cross‐linking agent to form a new membrane network. The properties of oxidized CMC were investigated by various methods such as Fourier transform infrared (FT‐IR) spectroscopy, 1H NMR spectroscopy, and viscosity test. Then, novel chitosan‐CMC silver nanocomposite was prepared using chitosan‐CMC as a carrier. The structure of the chitosan‐CMC membrane and the silver nanocomposite were confirmed by FT‐IR spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). TEM images indicate that the chitosan‐CMC nanocomposite comprises silver nanoparticles with diameters in the range of about 5–20 nm. The antibacterial studies of the nanocomposite were also evaluated. The chitosan‐CMC silver nanocomposite demonstrates good antibacterial activity against Staphylococcus aureus, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, and Escherichia coli. Cotton was cationized by exhaustion method using 3-chloro-2-hydroxypropyl trimethyl ammonium chloride (CHPTAC) as a cation-generating agent. Adsorption of silver nanoparticles on normal and cationized cotton was studied by exhaustion method at temperatures of 80°C and 100°C. Two exhaustion baths were used, containing nanosilver colloidal solutions stabilized by two different stabilizers and various concentrations of silver nanoparticles. Fourier-transform infrared (FT-IR) spectra of normal and cationized samples confirmed the existence of quaternary ammonium groups on cationized cellulose fibers. X-ray diffraction (XRD) patterns showed that crystallinity of the modified cellulose fibers was decreased. Scanning electron microscope (SEM) images revealed that the surface of the modified cotton was rougher than that of normal cotton. In addition, SEM images showed the presence of silver nanoparticles on the surface of treated fabric samples. The amount of silver particles adsorbed on the fabric samples was determined using inductively coupled plasma-optical emission spectrometer. Antibacterial tests were performed against Escherichia coli bacteria as an indication of antibacterial effect of samples. Cationized cotton samples adsorbed more silver nanoparticles and then had greater ability to inhibit bacteria.  相似文献

Eco-friendly all cellulose composites were developed using cellulose as matrix and nanocomposite (in situ generated copper nanoparticles modified Napier Grass Fibers (NGFs)) as fillers for the antibacterial applications. The content of the nanocomposite filler was increased from 1?wt.% to 5?wt.% in the cellulose matrix. All these composites were characterized by Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), Tensile, Thermo Gravimetric Analysis (TGA), and antibacterial tests. SEM-EDX analysis revealed the in situ generation of copper nanoparticles on the surface of the films. Further, all cellulose composites showed good thermal stability. A minimum of 30% increase in char residue was observed in all cellulose nanocomposites compared to matrix. Antibacterial analysis indicated an excellent clear zone formation against both Gram Negative (Escherichia coli) and Gram Positive (Staphylococcus) bacteria. Hence, all these cellulose nanocomposite films can be considered as antibacterial packaging and dressing materials in medical field.  相似文献

A novel and efficient process is reported for fabrication of electroconductive, self-cleaning, antibacterial and antifungal cellulose textiles using a graphene/titanium dioxide nanocomposite. Cotton fabric was loaded with graphene oxide using a simple dipping coating method. The graphene oxide-coated cotton fabrics were then immersed in TiCl3 aqueous solution as both a reducing agent and a precursor to yield a fabric coated with graphene/titanium dioxide nanocomposite. The crystal phase, morphology, microstructure and other physicochemical properties of the as-prepared samples were characterized by X-ray diffraction, field emission scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, Raman spectroscopy and UV-Vis reflectance spectroscopy. Electrical resistance, self-cleaning performance, antimicrobial activity and cytotoxicity of treated fabrics were also assessed. The electrical conductivity of the graphene/titanium dioxide nanocomposite-coated fabrics was improved significantly by the presence of graphene on the surface of cotton fabrics. The self-cleaning efficiency of the treated fabrics was tested by degradation of methylene blue in aqueous solution under UV and sunlight irradiations. The results indicated that the decomposition rates of methylene blue were improved by the addition of graphene to the TiO2 treatment on fabrics. Moreover, the graphene/titanium dioxide nanocomposite-coated cotton samples had negligible toxicity and possessed excellent antimicrobial activity.  相似文献

In this study an effective nanocomposite antimicrobial agent for wool fabric was introduced. The silver loaded nano TiO(2) as a nanocomposite was prepared through UV irradiation in an ultrasonic bath. The nanocomposite was stabilized on the wool fabric surface by using citric acid as a friendly cross-linking agent. The treated wool fabrics indicated an antimicrobial activity against both Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli bacteria. Increasing the concentration of Ag/TiO(2) nanocomposite led to an improvement in antibacterial activities of the treated fabrics. Also increasing the amount of citric acid improved the adsorption of Ag/TiO(2) on the wool fabric surface leading to enhance antibacterial activity. The EDS spectrum, SEM images, and XRD patterns was studied to confirm the presence of existence of nanocomposite on the fabric surface. The role of both cross-linking agent and nanocomposite concentrations on the results was investigated using response surface methodology (RSM).  相似文献

The silica–silver core–shell particles were synthesized by simple one pot chemical method and were employed on the cotton fabric as an antibacterial agent. Extremely small (1–2 nm) silver nanoparticles were attached on silica core particles of average 270 nm size. The optimum density of the nano silver particles was found which was sufficient to show good antibacterial activity as well as the suppression in their surface plasmon resonance responsible for the colour of the core–shell particle for antibacterial textile application. The change in the density and size of the particles in the shell were monitored and confirmed by direct evidence of their transmission electron micrographs and by studying surface plasmon resonance characteristics. The colony counting method of antibacterial activity testing showed excellent results and even the least silver containing core–shell particles showed 100% activity against bacterial concentration of 104 colony counting units (cfu). The bonding between core–shell particles and cotton fabric was examined by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. The antibacterial activity test confirmed the firm attachment of core–shell particles to the cotton fabric as a result 10 times washed sample was as good antibacterial as that of unwashed sample. The bacterial growth was inhibited on and beneath the coated fabric, at the same time no zone of inhibition which occurs due to the migration of silver ions into the medium was observed indicating immobilization of silver nanoparticles on silica and core–shell particles on fabric by strong bonding.  相似文献
