Left-symmetric algebra structures on the twisted Heisenberg-Virasoro algebra

The compatible left-symmetric algebra structures on the twisted Heisenberg-Virasoro algebra with some natural grading conditions are completely determined. The results of the earlier work on left-symmetric algebra structures on the Virasoro algebra play an essential role in determining these compatible structures. As a corollary, any such left-symmetric algebra contains an infinite-dimensional nontrivial subalgebra that is also a submodule of the regular module.

A note on the fundamental theorem of algebra for the octonions

This paper is a revision of a portion of the author's doctoral dissertation submitted to the University of Oregon. Using elementary concepts of K$K$-theory, the Brouwer degree of the power map in the octonions is computed. Later, a proof of a weaker version of the fundamental theorem of algebra for polynomials with coefficients in the octonions is given. As a partial complement, a lower bound to the number of solutions of a homogeneous monomial equation over the octonions is obtained.     

On the Restricted Lie Algebra Structure of the Witt Lie Algebra in Finite Characteristic

The article contains an explicit formula for the restricted Lie algebra structure in the Witt Lie algebra over a field of finite characteristic. Some combinatorial lemmas can be of independent interest.     

K-theory for the maximal Roe algebra of certain expanders

We study in this paper the maximal version of the coarse Baum-Connes assembly map for families of expanding graphs arising from residually finite groups. Unlike for the usual Roe algebra, we show that this assembly map is closely related to the (maximal) Baum-Connes assembly map for the group and is an isomorphism for a class of expanders. We also introduce a quantitative Baum-Connes assembly map and discuss its connections to K-theory of (maximal) Roe algebras.     

Novikov algebras and Novikov structures on Lie algebras

We study ideals of Novikov algebras and Novikov structures on finite-dimensional Lie algebras. We present the first example of a three-step nilpotent Lie algebra which does not admit a Novikov structure. On the other hand we show that any free three-step nilpotent Lie algebra admits a Novikov structure. We study the existence question also for Lie algebras of triangular matrices. Finally we show that there are families of Lie algebras of arbitrary high solvability class which admit Novikov structures.     

Lie bialgebras of generalized Witt type

In this paper, all Lie bialgebra structures on the Lie algebras of generalized Witt type are considered. It is proved that, for any Lie algebra W of generalized Witt type, all Lie bialgebras on W are the coboundary triangular Lie bialgebras. As a by-product, it is also proved that the first cohomology group H1(W, W(?)W) is trivial.     

Projective push-forwards in the Witt theory of algebraic varieties

We define push-forwards along projective morphisms in the Witt theory of smooth quasi-projective varieties over a field. We prove that they have standard properties such as functoriality, compatibility with pull-backs and projection formulas.

Norm conditions for uniform algebra isomorphisms

In recent years much work has been done analyzing maps, not assumed to be linear, between uniform algebras that preserve the norm, spectrum, or subsets of the spectra of algebra elements, and it is shown that such maps must be linear and/or multiplicative. On nonsingular modules over infinite-dimensional simple novikov algebra of characteristic 0

In this paper we show that an A-module is a direct sum of a trivial module and a nosingular module, and we also give the structure of nonsingular module over infinite dimensional simple Novikov algebras of types (II) and (III) over a field F of Characteristic 0.     

A specialization of prinjective Ringel-Hall algebra and the associated Lie algebra

In the present paper we describe a specialization of prinjective Ringel-Hall algebra to 1, for prinjective modules over incidence algebras of posets of finite prinjective type, by generators and relations. This gives us a generalisation of Serre relations for semisimple Lie algebras. Connections of prinjective Ringel-Hall algebras with classical Lie algebras are also discussed.     

A note on the sequence of consecutive powers of a nonnegative matrix in max algebra

In this note, we shall consider the sequence of consecutive powers in max algebra of a nonnegative matrix with each element less than or equal to 1. The notion of asymptotic period is defined to study the ‘limiting behavior' of this sequence. A simple and effective characterization for the asymptotic period of the sequence is given.     

Witt Rings of Global Fields

Abstract

In 1989 DeMeyer et al. (DeMeyer,F.,Harrison,D.,Miranda,R. (1989). Quadratic forms over ? and Galois extensions of commutative rings. Mem. Amer. Math. Soc. 77(394)) described the Witt ring of the rational number field in terms of Hilbert symbols. The same has been done by the first author for global function fields. The aim of this paper is to obtain a similar result for any global field.
