In this paper we study the degree of cross-polarization of a beam-like field whose cross-spectral density matrix is symmetric with respect to the permutation of its spatial arguments. Formulas were derived expressing the degree of cross-polarization in terms of the generalized Stokes parameters. With the help of an uniformly polarized quasi-homogeneous model source, the effect of degree of cross-polarization of a source on the degree of polarization of the radiated beam was demonstrated, that, two sources with same spectral degrees of coherence and polarization but with different degrees of cross-polarization can generate beams that have different spectral degrees of polarization in the far field.  相似文献

Based on an expansion of the Bethe-Salpeter equation in scattering orders a semi-analytic approach for simulation of coherent phenomena of multiple scattering in random media has been developed. We found that for scalar field the manifestation of these phenomena, observed as temporal field correlation function and coherent backscattering, are universal and well agreed with the results predicted by diffusion approximation. For the electromagnetic field the temporal correlation function and coherent backscattering are noticeably differ from those found for the scalar field, depending strongly on the scattering anisotropy. The obtained numerical results, for the first time to our knowledge, are compared directly with the known generalizations of the Milne solution.  相似文献

We study a method generating certain distributions of the degree and state of polarization of a light field across a transverse beam cross-section. We use the introduced polarization encoding scheme to study the distribution of polarization ellipses in a cross-section of a beam generated by superposing two encoded beams, the effects of coherence relation between the input beams on this distribution were theoretically analyzed and illustrated by contour plots of the parameters representing polarization ellipses.  相似文献

A parametric study is performed in investigating the stochastic electromagnetic beam generated by a uniformly polarized electromagnetic Gaussian Schell-model source and passing through ABCD optical systems. Through theoretical analysis, the requirement is derived that the uniformly polarized electromagnetic field can be obtained at the output plane of the imaging optical system. Furthermore, the general imaging formula of the stochastic electromagnetic beam is derived. Numerical examples are also presented to illustrate the application.  相似文献

In this paper, we investigated both theoretically and experimentally the normalized spectrum of partially coherent light radiated from a secondary source which is produced by an imaging system. The experimental results show that, if the imaging lens is achromatic, the normalized spectrum of the light radiated from a secondary source shifts either towards the red side or towards the blue side, compared to the spectrum of the source, and the spectral shifts change for different position of the observation points. It is found that the experimental results are consistent with the theoretical ones. A chromatic lens, acting as the imaging lens, is used to investigate the effect of the chromatic aberration on the normalized spectrum of the light field. The results show that the influence of the chromatic aberration on the normalized spectrum is considerable and cannot be neglected in high-precision spectral measurement experiments.  相似文献

The anomalous spectral behaviors of partially coherent polychromatic hollow Gaussian Schell-model beams (HGSMBs) diffracted by a slit are investigated. Besides spectral switches, asymmetrical dual-peak spectral split and multi-peak spectral split are observed. In the vicinity of the positions where spectral switches occur, flat-topped spectrum can be obtained, the bandwidth of which is adjustable by changing the transverse coherence width and the observation position. The flat-topped spectrum has potential application for creating probe beams in optical metrology systems and generating broadband optical sources in fiber optic sensor interface systems.  相似文献

Light propagation in materials with microscopic inhomogeneities is affected by scattering. In scattering materials, such as powders, disordered metamaterials or biological tissue, multiple scattering on sub-wavelength particles makes light diffuse. Recently, we showed that it is possible to construct a wavefront that focuses through a solid, strongly scattering object. The focusing wavefront uniquely matches a certain configuration of the particles in the medium. To focus light through a turbid liquid or living tissue, it is necessary to dynamically adjust the wavefront as the particles in the medium move. Here we present three algorithms for constructing a wavefront that focuses through a scattering medium. We analyze the dynamic behavior of these algorithms and compare their sensitivity to measurement noise. The algorithms are compared both experimentally and using numerical simulations. The results are in good agreement with an intuitive model, which may be used to develop dynamic diffusion compensators with applications in, for example, light delivery in human tissue.  相似文献

Based on the extended Huygens-Fresnel principle, the mutual coherence function of quasi-monochromatic electromagnetic Gaussian Schell-model (EGSM) beams propagating through turbulent atmosphere is derived analytically. By employing the lateral and the longitudinal coherence length of EGSM beams to characterize the spatial and the temporal coherence of the beams, the behavior of changes in the spatial and the temporal coherence of those beams is studied. The results show that with a fixed set of beam parameters and under particular atmospheric turbulence model, the lateral coherence of an EGSM beam reaches its maximum value as the beam propagates a certain distance in the turbulent atmosphere, then it begins degrading and keeps decreasing along with the further distance. However, the longitudinal coherence length of an EGSM beam keeps unchanging in this propagation. Lastly, a qualitative explanation is given to these results.  相似文献

We study the change in the degree of coherence of partially coherent electromagnetic beam (so called electromagnetic Gaussian Schell-model beam). It is shown analytically that with a fixed set of source parameters and under a particular atmospheric turbulence model, an electromagnetic Gaussian Schell-model beam propagating through atmospheric turbulence reaches its maximum value of coherence after the beam propagates a particular distance, and the effective width of the spectral degree of coherence also has its maximum value. This phenomenon is independent of the used turbulence model. The results are illustrated by numerical curves.  相似文献

We elaborate on a geometrical picture of diffraction gratings. Exact paraxial propagation including coherence effects is obtained by allowing the geometrical rays to transport Wigner function instead of simply specific intensity. Light reflection from a dielectric slab, composed of identical atoms subject to thermal motion, is studied theoretically under the Born approximation. When the atomic motion is assumed to have a fixed magnitude, it is found that, although light is still reflected into the same incident plane, it is actually along two directions, all different from the direction specified by Snell’s law. It is also found that along these two reflection directions the light has different frequencies.  相似文献

The focusing properties of circularly polarized vortex beam are experimentally verified by examining two-photon fluorescent emission patterns inside an fluorescent microsphere. Very good agreements between the experimental and theoretical results have been obtained. Annular pupil masks are used to tailor the profile at the focus. When an circularly polarized beam with the appropriate handedness is used in combination with an annular pupil aperture, a strong longitudinal component is observed, which results in a raised center and a smaller focal spot. This interesting focusing property can be utilized in applications that require a distinct longitudinal component.  相似文献

Intralipid suspensions behave like phantoms of human tissues concerning their light scattering properties. We present experimental measurements of the angular distribution of polarized light scattering at various incidence angles on Intralipid-20%. A comparison of the absolute values of these measurements with simulations using a vector radiative transfer model (N-flux) developed for multilayered media demonstrates a stratified structure of the samples with a double distribution of the size of scatterers. This result is confirmed by polarimetry imaging.  相似文献

The scattering problem of alpha-stable non-Gaussian distributed rough surfaces is studied. The alpha-stable non-Gaussian distribution is used to describe the surfaces that exhibit sharp and sparse peaks, not usually seen in Gaussian distributed surfaces. Then a magnetic field integral equation is formulated to calculate the scattered field and the scattering coefficient. Numerical simulations show that the magnitude distribution of the scattered field is affected significantly by the probability distribution of the surface when the height of the surface changes in a random way. In addition, simulation results are presented as bistatic scattering coefficient for alpha-stable distributed surfaces.  相似文献

All beams of electromagnetic radiation are made of photons. Therefore, it is important to find a precise relationship between the classical properties of the beam and the quantum characteristics of the photons that make a particular beam. It is shown that this relationship is best expressed in terms of the Riemann-Silberstein vector - a complex combination of the electric and magnetic field vectors - that plays the role of the photon wave function. The Whittaker representation of this vector in terms of a single complex function satisfying the wave equation greatly simplifies the analysis. Bessel beams, exact Laguerre-Gauss beams, and other related beams of electromagnetic radiation can be described in a unified fashion. The appropriate photon quantum numbers for these beams are identified. Special emphasis is put on the angular momentum of a single photon and its connection with the angular momentum of the beam.  相似文献

The electromagnetic wave transmission from the slightly rough surface of three-layered medium is studied, and formulae of the transmission coefficients for different polarizations are derived using the small perturbation method. A Gaussian rough surface is presented for describing rough surface of the layered medium, the influence of permittivity of the layered medium, the mean layer thickness of the intermediate medium, the roughness surface parameters and the incident frequency on the transmission coefficient of HH polarization are obtained and discussed with numerical implementation.  相似文献

Typically the interaction between multilayered cylinders and Gaussian beam is derived in detail, and localized approximation is introduced to calculate the beam shaped coefficients. We present an analytical model of Doppler spectra in backscattering from arbitrary rough convex bodies of revolution rotating around their axes in the global Cartesian coordinate system. This analytical model is applied to analyse Doppler spectra in backseatter from two cones and two cylinders, as well as two ellipsoids of revolution. We numerically analyse the influences of attitude and geometry size of objects on Doppler spectra. The analytical model can give contribution of the surface roughness, attitude and geometry size of convex bodies of revolution to Doppler spectra and may contribute to laser Doppler velocimetry as well as ladar applications.  相似文献

Scattering of a high-order Hermite-Gaussian beam by a multi-layered sphere is analyzed. The incident high- order Hermite-Gaussian beam field is expressed by the complex-source-point method and expanded in terms of spherical vector wave functions. The beam shape coefficients of the Hermite-Gaussian beam are obtained. Under electromagnetic field boundary conditions, coefficients in the expressions of scattering fields are derived. Results of the numerical calculation of scattering intensity are presented. The effects of the particle parameters and beam parameters on scattering intensity are discussed in detail.  相似文献

In this report we show that the amplitude of specularly diffracted light from a plane rough surface as a function of incident angle cosine is Fourier transform of the height distribution on the surface. Therefore, an even height distribution function, which is the case for many rough surfaces, can be obtained by measuring the specularly diffracted light intensities. Also, it is observed that for polychromatic illumination the spectrum of the specularly diffracted light is modified and the modification depends on roughness, incident angle, and wavelength. It is also shown that, for a fixed incident angle, the height distribution on the rough plane is Fourier transform of the spectral modifying function. Experimental studies on some surfaces of different roughnesses, prepared by grinding sheet-glasses by powders of different grain sizes, show that the corresponding height distributions are Gaussian and the rms heights obtained by the two approaches are quite consistent.  相似文献
