Forced convection flow in a microchannel with constant wall temperature is studied, including viscous dissipation effect. The slip-flow regime is considered by incorporating both the velocity-slip and the temperature-jump conditions at the surface. The energy equation is solved for the developing temperature field using finite integral transform. To increase βv Kn is to increase the slip velocity at the wall surface, and hence to decrease the friction factor. Effects of the parameters βv Kn, β, and Br on the heat transfer results are illustrated and discussed in detail. For a fixed Br, the Nusselt number may be either higher or lower than those of the continuum regime, depending on the competition between the effects of βv Kn and β. At a given βv Kn the variation of local Nusselt number becomes more even when β becomes larger, accompanied by a shorter thermal entrance length. The fully developed Nusselt number decreases with increasing β irrelevant to βv Kn. The increase in Nusselt number due to viscous heating is found to be more pronounced at small βv Kn.  相似文献

Here the velocity field and the associated tangential stress corresponding to the rotational flow of a generalized second grade fluid within an infinite circular cylinder are determined by means of the Laplace and finite Hankel transforms. At time t=0 the fluid is at rest and the motion is produced by the rotation of the cylinder around its axis. The solutions that have been obtained are presented under series form in terms of the generalized G-functions. The similar solutions for ordinary second grade and Newtonian fluids are obtained from general solution for β→1, respectively, β→1 and α 1→0. Finally, the influences of the pertinent parameters on the fluid motion, as well as a comparison between models, is underlined by graphical illustrations.  相似文献

In this paper, the velocity field and the associated tangential stress corresponding to the rotational flow of a generalized Maxwell fluid within an infinite circular cylinder are determined by means of the Laplace and finite Hankel transforms. Initially, the fluid is at rest, and the motion is produced by the rotation of the cylinder about its axis with a unsteady angular velocity. The solutions that have been obtained are presented under series form in terms of the generalized G a,b,c (, t)-functions. The similar solutions for the ordinary Maxwell and Newtonian fluids, performing the same motion, are obtained as special cases, when β → 1, respectively β → 1 and λ → 0, from general solutions. Finally, the solutions that have been obtained are compared by graphical illustrations, and the influence of the pertinent parameters on the fluid motion is also underlined by graphical illustrations.  相似文献

The boundary layer problem of a power-law fluid flow with fluid injection on a wedge whose surface is moving with a constant velocity in the opposite direction to that of the uniform mainstream is analyzed. The free stream velocity, the injection velocity at the surface, moving velocity of the wedge surface, the wedge angle and the power law index of non-Newtonian fluid are assumed variables. The fourth order Runge–Kutta method modified by Gill is used to solve the non-dimensional boundary layer equations for non-Newtonian flow field. Without fluid injection, for every angle of wedge β, a limiting value for velocity ratio λ cr (velocity of the wedge surface/velocity of the uniform flow) is found for each power-law index n. The value of λ cr increases with the increasing wedge angle β. The value of wedge angle also restricts the physical characteristics of the fluid to be used. The effects of the different parameters on velocity profile and on skin friction are studied and the drag reduction is discussed. In case of C = 2.5 and velocity ratio λ = 0.2 for wedge angle β = 0.5 with the fluid with power law-index n = 0.5, 48.8% drag reduction is obtained.  相似文献

The neutral-stability analysis presented by Hoefsloot et al. [3] is completed by computing the growth factorsβ for the normal modes and by showing that the neutral states (Re(β)=0) are stationary (Im(β)=0) rather than oscillatory (Im(β)≠0).  相似文献

An infinite elastic band is compressed along its unbounded direction, giving rise to a continuous family of homogeneous configurations that is parameterized by the compression rate β < 1 (β = 1 when there is no compression). It is assumed that, for some critical value β 0, the compression force as a function of β has a strict local extremum and that the linearized equation around the corresponding homogeneous configuration is strongly elliptic. Under these conditions, there are nearby localized deformations that are asymptotically homogeneous. When the compression force reaches a strict local maximum at β 0, they describe localized thickening and they occur for values of β slightly smaller than β 0. Since the material is supposed to be hyperelastic, homogeneous and isotropic, the localized deformations are not due to localized imperfections. The method follows the one developed by A. Mielke for an elastic band under traction: interpretation of the nonlinear elliptic system as an infinite dimensional dynamical system in which the unbounded direction plays the role of time, its reduction to a center manifold and the existence of a homoclinic solution to the reduced finite dimensional problem in [A. Mielke, Hamiltonian and Lagrangian fiows on center manifolds, Lecture Notes in Mathematics 1489. Springer, Berlin Heidelberg New York, 1991]. The main difference lies in the fact that Agmon's condition does not hold anymore and therefore the linearized problem cannot be analyzed as in Mielke's work.  相似文献

Using the half-space moment method, the problem of the slip of a diatomic gas along a rigid spherical surface is solved within the framework of a model kinetic equation previously proposed which takes into account the rotational degrees of freedom of the gas. Second-order slip coefficients (correctionsC m , β R , and β R to the isothermal and thermal slip which are linear with respect to the Knudsen number Kn) are obtained. The gas macroparameter jump coefficientsC v andC q, which are of the second order in the Knudsen number and characterize the discontinuity of the normal mass and heat fluxes on the gas-rigid phase interface, are calculated. These coefficients are given as functions of the tangential momentum accommodation coefficient, the translational and rotational energy accommodation coefficients, and the Prandtl number. The coefficients are calculated for certain diatomic gases. Moscow. In the present work, the effect of MHD flow and heat transfer within a boundary layer flow on an upper-convected Maxwell (UCM) fluid over a stretching sheet is examined. The governing boundary layer equations of motion and heat transfer are non-dimensionalized using suitable similarity variables and the resulting transformed, ordinary differential equations are then solved numerically by shooting technique with fourth order Runge–Kutta method. For a UCM fluid, a thinning of the boundary layer and a drop in wall skin friction coefficient is predicted to occur for higher the elastic number. The objective of the present work is to investigate the effect of Maxwell parameter β, magnetic parameter Mn and Prandtl number Pr on the temperature field above the sheet.  相似文献

This note is concerned with the assertion of Barletta and Nield (2009a) that “a fluid with a thermal expansion coefficient greater than that of a perfect gas (ββ perfect gas) is of marginal or no interest in the framework of convection in porous media”, and that for a remark of Magyari (Transp. Porous Media, 2009) about the forced convection eigenflow solutions, the circumstance ββ perfect gas does not represent “a sound physical basis”. Here, it is shown, however, that these assertions are in contradiction with the experimentally measured values of β for important technical fluids as e.g., air, nitrogen, carbon dioxide, and ammonia where, in the temperature range between −20 and +100°C, just the inequality ββ perfect gas holds.  相似文献

A self-similar solution of the three-dimensional (3d) incompressible Euler equations is defined byu(x,t) =U(y)/t*-t) α, y = x/(t* ~ t)β,α,β> 0, whereU(y) satisfiesζU + βy. ΔU + U. VU + VP = 0,divU = 0. For α = β = 1/2, which is the limiting case of Leray’s self-similar Navier—Stokes equations, we prove the existence of(U,P) ε H3(Ω,R3 X R) in a smooth bounded domain Ω, with the inflow boundary data of non-zero vorticity. This implies the possibility that solutions of the Euler equations blow up at a timet = t*, t* < +∞.  相似文献

This paper is devoted to describe the deformations and the elastic energy for structures made of straight rods of thickness 2δ when δ tends to 0. This analysis relies on the decomposition of the large deformation of a single rod introduced in Blanchard and Griso (Anal. Appl. 7(1):21–71, 2009) and on the extension of this technique to a multi-structure. We characterize the asymptotic behavior of the infimum of the total elastic energy as the minimum of a limit functional for an energy of order δ β (2<β≤4).  相似文献

The development of the thermo-viscous fingering instability of miscible displacements in homogeneous porous media is examined. In this first part of the study dealing with stability analysis, the basic equations and the parameters governing the problem in a rectilinear geometry are developed. An exponential dependence of viscosity on temperature and concentration is represented by two parameters, thermal mobility ratio β T and a solutal mobility ratio β C , respectively. Other parameters involved are the Lewis number Le and a thermal-lag coefficient λ. The governing equations are linearized and solved to obtain instability characteristics using either a quasi-steady-state approximation (QSSA) or initial value calculations (IVC). Exact analytical solutions are also obtained for very weakly diffusing systems. Using the QSSA approach, it was found that an increase in thermal mobility ratio β T is seen to enhance the instability for fixed β C , Le and λ. For fixed β C and β T , a decrease in the thermal-lag coefficient and/or an increase in the Lewis number always decrease the instability. Moreover, strong thermal diffusion at large Le as well as enhanced redistribution of heat between the solid and fluid phases at small λ is seen to alleviate the destabilizing effects of positive β T . Consequently, the instability gets strictly dominated by the solutal front. The linear stability analysis using IVC approach leads to conclusions similar to the QSSA approach except for the case of large Le and unity λ flow where the instability is seen to get even less pronounced than in the case of a reference isothermal flow of the same β C , but β T  = 0. At practically, small value of λ, however, the instability ultimately approaches that due to β C only.  相似文献

Mixing by secondary flow is studied by particle image velocimetry (PIV) in a developing laminar pulsating flow through a circular curved pipe. The pipe curvature ratio is η = r 0/r c  = 0.09, and the curvature angle is 90°. Different secondary flow patterns are formed during an oscillation period due to competition among the centrifugal, inertial, and viscous forces. These different secondary-flow structures lead to different transverse-mixing schemes in the flow. Here, transverse mixing enhancement is investigated by imposing different pulsating conditions (Dean number, velocity ratio, and frequency parameter); favorable pulsating conditions for mixing are introduced. To obviate light-refraction effects during PIV measurements, a T-shaped structure is installed downstream of the curved pipe. Experiments are carried out for the Reynolds numbers range 420 ≤ Rest ≤ 1,000 (Dean numbers 126.6 ≤ Dn ≤ 301.5) corresponding to non-oscillating flow, velocity component ratios 1 ≤ (β = U max,osc/U m,st) ≤ 4 (the ratio of velocity amplitude of oscillations to the mean velocity without oscillations), and frequency parameters 8.37 < (α = r 0(ω/ν)0.5) < 24.5, where α2 is the ratio of viscous diffusion time over the pipe radius to the characteristic oscillation time. The variations in cross-sectional average values of absolute axial vorticity (|ζ|) and transverse strain rate (|ε|) are analyzed in order to quantify mixing. The effects of each parameter (Rest, β, and α) on transverse mixing are discussed by comparing the dimensionless vorticities (|ζ P |/|ζ S |) and dimensionless transverse strain rates (|ε P |/|ε S |) during a complete oscillation period.  相似文献

The combined effect of rotation and magnetic field is investigated for the axisymmetric flow due to the motion of a sphere in an inviscid, incompressible electrically conducting fluid having uniform rotation far upstream. The steady-state linearized equations contain a single parameter α=1/2βR m, β being the magnetic pressure number and R m the magnetic Reynolds number. The complete solution for the flow field and magnetic field is obtained and the distribution of vorticity and current density is found. The induced vorticity is O(α4) and the current density is O(R m) on the sphere.  相似文献

In coal mining the water flow in broken rock is a very common phenomenon. Study of seepage properties of broken rock is one of the basic subjects required in order to understand the stability of rock surrounding roadways, preventing disasters such as water inrush and gas outbursts and developing underground resources. So far, quantitative studies on the nonlinear seepage properties of broken sandstone under different porosities are not extensive in the research literature. In this article, by means of an electro-hydraulic servo-controlled test system (MTS815.02) and a patent seepage device, the seepage properties under different conditions of porosity were tested on broken sandstone of five different grain sizes. Based on the loading method of controlling the axial compression displacement and steady permeating method, we obtained curves of the relation of pore pressure with time, as well as the relation curves between the pore pressure gradient for steady seepage and velocity. Furthermore, we calculated the permeability k and non-Darcy coefficient β corresponding to different porosities by fitting these curves with the binomial expression. This study indicates that: (1) the seepage properties of broken sandstone are closely related to grain size, load levels, and porosity structure; (2) the permeability k decreases, while the coefficient β increases with a decrease in porosity φ, but both the kφ and the βφ curves show some local fluctuations; (3) the permeability k of the broken sandstone has a magnitude of 10−14–10−12 m2, while the coefficient β ranges from 1010 to 1012 m−1. The results obtained provide some information for further study of the nonlinear seepage behavior of broken rock theoretically.  相似文献

We derive a hierarchy of plate models from three-dimensional nonlinear elasticity by Γ-convergence. What distinguishes the different limit models is the scaling of the elastic energy per unit volume ∼hβ, where h is the thickness of the plate. This is in turn related to the strength of the applied force ∼hα. Membrane theory, derived earlier by Le Dret and Raoult, corresponds to α=β=0, nonlinear bending theory to α=β=2, von Kármán theory to α=3, β=4 and linearized vK theory to α>3. Intermediate values of α lead to certain theories with constraints. A key ingredient in the proof is a generalization to higher derivatives of our rigidity result [29] which states that for maps v:(0,1)3→ℝ3, the L2 distance of ∇v from a single rotation is bounded by a multiple of the L2 distance from the set SO(3) of all rotations.  相似文献

Unsteady momentum and heat transfer from an asymmetrically confined circular cylinder in a plane channel is numerically investigated using FLUENT for the ranges of Reynolds numbers as 10≤Re≤500, of the blockage ratio as 0.1≤β≤0.4, and of the gap ratio as 0.125≤γ≤1 for a constant value of the Prandtl number of 0.744. The transition of the flow from steady to unsteady (characterized by critical Re) is determined as a function of γ and β. The effect of γ on the mean drag and lift coefficients, Strouhal number (St), and Nusselt number (Nu w ) is studied. Critical Re was found to increase with decreasing γ for all values of β. and St were found to increase with decreasing values of γ for fixed β and Re. The effect of decrease in γ on was found to be negligible for all blockage ratios investigated.  相似文献

Stresses are calculated for a small elastic inclusion bonded (in a way to ensure continuous displacements and tractions across the surface of the inclusion) to a large circular cylindrical shaft. The inclusion considered is inhomogeneous and of spherical shape. The shear modulus of the inclusion is assumed to be μ0 exp(−1/2β2 r 2). Some special cases are also discussed.  相似文献

This paper aims to present the exact closed form solutions and postbuckling behavior of the beam under a concentrated moment within the span length of beam. Two approaches are used in this paper. The nonlinear governing differential equations based on elastica theory are derived and solved analytically for the exact closed form solutions in terms of elliptic integral of the first and second kinds. The results are presented in graphical diagram of equilibrium paths, equilibrium configurations and critical loads. For validation of the results from the first approach, the shooting method is employed to solve a set of nonlinear differential equations with boundary conditions. The set of nonlinear governing differential equations are integrated by using Runge–Kutta method fifth order with adaptive step size scheme. The error norms of the end conditions are minimized within prescribed tolerance (10−5). The results from both approaches are in good agreement. From the results, it is found that the stability of this type of beam exhibits both stable and unstable configurations. The limit load point existed. The roller support can move through the hinged support in some cases of β and leads to the more complex of the configuration shapes of the beam.  相似文献

Effects of drift angle on model ship flow   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
The effects of drift angle on model ship flow are investigated through towing tank tests for the Series 60 CB=0.6 cargo/container model ship. Resistance, side force, drift moment, sinkage, trim, and heel data are procured for a range of drift angles β and Froude numbers (Fr) and the model free condition. Detailed free-surface and mean velocity and pressure flow maps are procured for high and low Fr=0.316 and 0.16 and β=5° and 10° (free surface) and β=10° (mean velocity and pressure) for the model fixed condition (i.e. fixed with zero sinkage, trim, and heel). Comparison of results at high and low Fr and previous data for β=0° enables identification of important free-surface and drift effects. Geometry, conditions, data, and uncertainty analysis are documented in sufficient detail so as to be useful as a benchmark for computational fluid dynamics (CFD) validation. The resistance increases linearly with β with same slope for all Fr, whereas the increases in the side force, drift moment, sinkage, trim, and heel with β are quadratic. The wave profile is only affected near the bow, i.e. the bow wave amplitude increases/decreases on the windward/leeward sides, whereas the wave elevations are affected throughout the entire wave field. However, the wave envelope angle on both sides is nearly the same as β=0°, i.e. the near-field wave pattern rotates with the hull and remains within a similar wave envelope as β=0°. The wave amplitudes are significantly increased/decreased on the windward/leeward sides. The wake region is also asymmetric with larger wedge angle on the leeward side. The boundary layer and wake are dominated by the hull vortex system consisting of fore body keel, bilge, and wave-breaking vortices and after body bilge and counter-rotating vortices. The occurrence of a wave-breaking vortex for breaking bow waves has not been previously documented in the literature. The trends for the maximum vorticity, circulation, minimum axial velocity, and trajectories are discussed for each vortex. Received: 16 September 1999/Accepted: 8 November 2001  相似文献
