Given a positive Radon measure μ on R^d satisfying the linear growth condition μ(B(x,r))≤C0r^n,x∈R^d,r〉0,(1) where n is a fixed number and O〈n≤d.    Abstract. A finite set N ⊂ R d is a weak ε-net for an n -point set X ⊂ R d (with respect to convex sets) if it intersects each convex set K with |K ∩ X| ≥ ε n . It is shown that there are point sets X ⊂ R d for which every weak ε -net has at least const ⋅
points. This distinguishes the behavior of weak ε -nets with respect to convex sets from ε -nets with respect to classes of shapes like balls or ellipsoids in R d , where the size can be bounded from above by a polynomial function of d and ε .  相似文献

For every positive linear functional σ, on that space, the function Φσ:R n R given by Φσ is anL p-semi-norm and the mapping σ→Φσ is 1-1 and onto. The closed linear span of |<ξ, ·>| p , ξ∈R n is the space of all even continuous functions that are homogeneous of degreep, ifp is not an even integer and is the space of all homogeneous polynomials of degreep whenp is an even integer. This representation is used to prove that there is no finite list of norm inequalities that characterizes linear isometric embeddability, in anyL p unlessp=2. We present a special similarity ofR 4n which maps lattice points into lattice points. Applying this similarity, we prove that if a (4n−1)-polytope is similar to a lattice polytope (a polytope whose vertices are all lattice points) inR 4n , then it is similar to a lattice polytope inR 4n−1, generalizing a result of Schoenberg [4]. We also prove that ann-polytope is similar to a lattice polytope in someR N if and only if it is similar to a lattice polytope inR 2n+1, and if and only if sin2(<ABC) is rational for any three verticesA, B, C of the polytope.  相似文献

We prove d-linear analogues of the classical restriction and Kakeya conjectures in R d . Our approach involves obtaining monotonicity formulae pertaining to a certain evolution of families of gaussians, closely related to heat flow. We conclude by giving some applications to the corresponding variable-coefficient problems and the so-called “joints” problem, as well as presenting some n-linear analogues for n < d.  相似文献

   Abstract. We prove that a set of n disjoint unit balls in R d admits at most four distinct geometric permutations, or line transversals, thus settling a long-standing conjecture in combinatorial geometry. Let G m,n be the class of strategic games with n players, where each player has m≥2 pure strategies. We are interested in the structure of the set of correlated equilibria of games in G m,n when n→∞. As the number of equilibrium constraints grows slower than the number of pure strategy profiles, it might be conjectured that the set of correlated equilibria becomes large. In this paper, we show that (1) the average relative measure of the set of correlated equilibria is smaller than 2−n; and (2) for each 1<c<m, the solution set contains c n correlated equilibria having disjoint supports with a probability going to 1 as n grows large. Let Θ be a point in R n . We are concerned with the approximation to Θ by rational linear subvarieties of dimension d for 0 ≤ dn−1. To that purpose, we introduce various convex bodies in the Grassmann algebra Λ(R n+1). It turns out that our convex bodies in degree d are the dth compound, in the sense of Mahler, of convex bodies in degree one. A dual formulation is also given. Motivated by problems from calculus of variations and partial differential equations, we investigate geometric properties of D-convexity. A function f: R dR is called D-convex, where D is a set of vectors in R d, if its restriction to each line parallel to a nonzero vD is convex. The D-convex hull of a compact set AR d, denoted by coD(A), is the intersection of the zero sets of all nonnegative D-convex functions that are zero on A. It also equals the zero set of the D-convex envelope of the distance function of A. We give an example of an n-point set AR 2 where the D-convex envelope of the distance function is exponentially close to zero at points lying relatively far from co D(A), showing that the definition of the D-convex hull can be very nonrobust. For separate convexity in R 3 (where D is the orthonormal basis of R 3), we construct arbitrarily large finite sets A with co D(A) ≠ A whose proper subsets are all equal to their D-convex hull. This implies the existence of analogous sets for rank-one convexity and for quasiconvexity on 3 × 3 (or larger) matrices.  We prove that if G runs over the set of graphs with a fixed degree sequence d, then the values χ(G) of the function chromatic number completely cover a line segment [a,b] of positive integers. Thus for an arbitrary graphical sequence d, two invariants minχ(d):=a and maxχ(d):=b naturally arise. For a regular graphical sequence d=r n :=(r,r,…,r) where r is the degree and n is the number of vertices, the exact values of a and b are found in all situations, except the case where n and r are both even and n<2r. According to a theorem of Martio, Rickman and Väisälä, all nonconstant Cn/(n-2)-smooth quasiregular maps in Rn, n≥3, are local homeomorphisms. Bonk and Heinonen proved that the order of smoothness is sharp in R3. We prove that the order of smoothness is sharp in R4. For each n≥5 we construct a C1+ε(n)-smooth quasiregular map in Rn with nonempty branch set.  相似文献
