A gas-discharge system is described in which the transverse extension of a normal glow discharge is utilized to induce feedback-free
triggering of a previously non-conducting discharge section. A calculation of the experimental configuration on the assumption
that a field distortion penetrates from the active discharge into the activated section, thus lowering its ignition voltage,
gives good agreement with the measured results.
It is concluded that the basic principle of control could be applied to gas-discharge-like breakdown phenomena in solids,
too.

The concentration dependence of theR-lines of ruby shows three characteristic regions: The first has the expected linear increase of emission intensity with increasing concentration; the second shows a weaker increase than linear and is explained by the assumption, that energy is distributed more to nebenlines; the third shows a rapid decrease of the emission as is expected for quadrupole-quadrupole interaction between the active atoms. Die angewandte klassische Lösungsmethode läßt sich auf noch allgemeinere Fälle erweitern. Within the Heisenberg model the scattering of spin waves by a dislocation can be calculated in the low energy limit, taking into account the structure of a simple cubic lattice.
