用无铅助熔剂法生长了掺铟的铋钙钒铁石榴石(Bi3-2xCa2xFe5-x-yInyVxO12单晶,采用本文所述的助熔剂,均长出了线度在10mm以上的晶粒完整、包容物很少的高质单晶。选用x=0.90,y=0.12的单晶,在0.7—2.2μm波长范围内测量了法拉第磁光旋转角θF和光吸收系数α。我们的结果表明无铅In-BCVIG单晶是磁光优值(M=(│θ关键词:  相似文献

Measurements of the Faraday magneto-optical effect and of optical absorption in magnetic garnet crystals and films are reviewed. Earlier work was restricted to measurements in the visible spectrum; these measurements showed that the transparency was sufficient to allow magnetic domains to be studied in relatively thick slabs. Within the last year or so interest has been renewed in extending magneto-optical measurements beyond the visible spectrum. In particular, extremely low absorptions are found in the wavelength range of approximately 1–5 microns. Thie work is, in no small way, spurred by the possibility of developing a light-beam modulator using the Faraday effect in this wavelength range. Recent measurements at very short wavelengths using garnet films are also reported. By extending the short wavelength measurements to 3000 Å, about two orders of magnitude increase in Fareday rotation and optical absorption are observed, compared with the visible spectrum measurements.

The Faraday effect has been used to measure magnetic hysteresis loops in single-crystal garnet slabs. Magneto-optical observation of the corresponding domain structures shows them to be particularly simple. Detailed correlation of domain structure and hysteresis loops is described; in addition, an estimate of the domain wall energy and its width is made from these measurements.

The garnets referred to in this review are yttrium iron garnet (YIG), gadolinium iron garnet (GdIG), and YIG doped with gallium (YGaIG).  相似文献

采用高温溶液法,以Bi2O3/B2O3为助熔剂成功地生长出掺铋复合稀土铁石榴石(TbYbBi)3Fe5O12(简称TbYbBiIG)晶体。晶体外形规则,最大尺寸为7×6×4mm3,X射线衍射分析证实,生长的晶体为TbYbBiIG单相单晶体,扫描电镜能谱分析其组成为Tb2.06Yb0.46Bi0.48Fe5O12。在1.0μm~1.7μm波段测量出晶体法拉第旋转谱和光吸收谱。当λ=1.55μm时,在10°C~80°C温度范围内测得法拉第旋转θF的温度系数为dθF/dT=-2.3×10-2deg·mm-1K-1。研究结果表明,TbYbBiIG单晶体在近红外波段θF约为YIG单晶的3倍,温度系数小,是制作高性能光隔离器的一种好材料  相似文献

The temperature (5–300 K) and field (0–100 kG) variation of the Faraday rotation of yttrium iron garnet single crystals has been measured at selected wavelengths in the range 0.8–1.6 μm. Above the magnetic saturation field of a few kG the Faraday rotation is found to decrease with increasing field for all temperatures and wavelengths. It is shown that a field dependence of the magneto-optical coefficients causes this surprizing effect.  相似文献

This paper is concerned with the preparation and characterization of cerium-substituted yttrium iron garnets, which are known to be oxides having a large Faraday rotation effect. Using the improved flux method we successfully grew bulk single crystals of iron garnet doped with Ce3+ ions with maximum substitutions up to 0.349. Here we investigate different solution compositions for maximum Ce3+ substitution. The Faraday rotation and optical absorption spectra were measured in the near infrared region for different Ce3+ ion substituted iron garnets. The specific Faraday rotation of Ce0.349Eu0.195Y2.456Fe5O12 was found to be 1430 deg/cm at a wavelength of 780 nm and –1280 deg/cm at 1150 nm. The Ce substitution prominently enhances the Faraday rotation effect, and Yb3+ and Eu3+ ions substituted for Y3+ in the dodecahedral sites of YIG can increase the concentration of Ce3+ ions, depressing the formation of nonmagnetic Ce4+ ions by charge compensation. Optical absorption, luminescence, magnetic circular dichroism and Faraday rotation spectra of Sr0.95Eu0.05B4O7 single crystals are studied. The crystal field parameter for europium ions is found to be equal to 790 cm−1. Excitation spectrum of luminescence strongly differs from that of low-doped polycrystalline strontium tetraborate. The Verdet constant in the ultraviolet is comparable to that of terbium gallium garnet in the visible.  相似文献

Polar Kerr rotation (PKR) spectra in the range 2.0–5.7 eV at 295 K of lithium ferrite and yttrium iron garnet (YIG) single crystals are reported. The spectra show more details and cover a more extended energy region than those published so far. The interpretation of the spectra is based on the assumptions that 1) PKR is an odd function of the sublattice magnetic moments 2) the origin of PKR in both compounds is of similar nature, the differences due to the different crystal structures (garnet and spinel) being less important. The calculated PKR sublattice components show some similarities in their energy dependences, the magnitude of the tetrahedral sublattice component being higher than that of the octahedral one. The components were used in the calculation of the PKR spectra in diamagnetically substituted yttrium iron garnet (J. Appl. Phys.49, 2212, 1978). The results correctly predict the trends observed experimentally.  相似文献

New semiconductor compound Cd1?xMnxTe exhibits strong Faraday rotation in the interband region. It is shown by measurements of magneto-optical Kerr effect and reflection in magnetic field that unusually large exciton Zeeman splitting plays an essential role in the observed Faraday rotation. A possible explanation of the observed splitting (corresponding to a “g factor” value up to 100) by exchange interaction of excitons with manganese d states is suggested.  相似文献

The IR and Raman vibrational spectra of yttrium aluminum garnet (YAG) single crystals grown from Ba- and Pb-based flux systems have been recorded. The existence of AlO4 and AlO6 characteristic vibrational bands confirms the garnet structure. The spectra of the two samples are compared with the spectra recorded for YAG crystals grown from pure melt and the results are discussed.  相似文献

We report the wavelength and temperature characteristics of novel Bi-substituted rare-earth iron garnet films grown on a YIG substrate by a modified liquid phase epitaxy (LPE) technique. The Faraday-rotation spectrum was measured by the magneto-optically modulated dual-frequency technique with the wavelength varied from 800 nm to 1700 nm. The resultant Bi0.37Yb2.63Fe5O12 (BiYbIG) LPE film/YIG crystal structure showed an increased Faraday-rotation coefficient due to Bi3+-ion doping on the dodecahedral sites of the iron garnet without increasing absorption loss; therefore, a good magneto-optical figure of merit, defined by the ratio of Faraday rotation and optical absorption loss, has been achieved (21.5 deg/dB and 30.2 deg/dB at 1300-nm and 1550-nm wavelengths, respectively, at room temperature). In addition, since the Yb3+ and Y3+ ions provide opposite contributions to the wavelength and temperature characteristics of the Faraday rotation, the resultant BiYbIG LPE film/YIG crystal structure showed a flat Faraday-rotation curve versus wavelength and temperature. The Faraday-rotation wavelength coefficient was reduced to 0.06 %/nm at 1550-nm wavelength. The Faraday-rotation temperature derivative was reduced to 0.006 deg/°C at 1300-nm wavelength and 0.007 deg/°C at 1550-nm wavelength, respectively. PACS 78.20.Ls; 81.15.Lm; 75.50.Gg  相似文献

The structure and magneto-optical properties of fine-grain garnet thin films crystallized by the rapid recurrent thermal annealing (RRTA) method have been studied. The RRAT method has been used to crystallize BiGaDyIG garnet single-layer or BiGaDyIG/AI double-layer films and to get nanometer grain size (about 30–50 nm), which results in a large Faraday rotation angle, a smoother surface and fewer voids in the films. Meanwhile we have discovered that the Faraday rotation angle increases with the number of recurrences during the rapid annealing and quenching. With the more recurrent annealing one can not only get a strong Faraday effect, but it suppresses the appearance of DyFeO3 phase in garnet films, which has been explained very well. By applying the new method, the as-deposited films have been succesfully crystallized to the (BiDy)3(FeGa)5O12 garnet phase. They exhibited excellent magneto-optical properties with a coercivity of about 1500 Oe and effective Faraday rotation angle of 1.5°. We observed the magnetic domains of a magnetic card by using the bismuth-substituted yttrium iron garnet (Bi-YIG; Bi1Y2Fe5O12) thin films as the indicator films. The magnetic domains’ dependence on the preparation conditions of the garnet thin film crystals was visualized by using a magneto-optical microscope. Garnet thin films were fabricated on glass substrates using a metal-organic decomposition method (MOD). We found that bigger Faraday rotation was measured in the better crystallized indicator films. Polycrystalline Bi-YIG thin films were successfully obtained for the annealing temperature of 700 °C and an annealing time of 1 h. The thickness of the film was about 47 nm for a single coating during the MOD process. The Faraday-rotation angle of the films was estimated as −2.47°/μm and the angle was comparable to other synthesis methods, such as the sol-gel and the RF-magnetron sputtering. Using these indicator films, we could image the magnetic domains of magnetic materials.  相似文献

We report an experimental study on magneto-optical (MO) Kerr effects of yttrium-iron garnet (YIG) thin films incorporating Au nanoparticles. The polar MO Kerr spectra in the wavelength between 400 and 800 nm show that, by incorporating the Au nanoparticles, Kerr rotation angles become negative values in the region, where the localized surface plasmon polariton (SPP) resonance of the Au nanoparticles is located. The anomalous Kerr rotation indicates a possible coupling between the MO Kerr effect of YIG and the SPP. A mechanism for the coupling is discussed.  相似文献

X-ray magneto-optical polarization spectroscopy is a relatively new ellipsometric technique with which the complete polarization state of X-ray radiation after its interaction with magnetic matter can be measured. This comprises rotation and ellipticity, which fully quantify the lights polarization. Employing this technique, the complete magneto-optical constants in the X-ray regime can directly be obtained, in contrast to the more commonly used intensity-only measurements. The Faraday and magneto-optical Kerr effects, being odd with respect to magnetization reversal, can be used for the examination of ferromagnetic (FM) materials. This we demonstrate here with Faraday and Kerr rotation and ellipticity spectra, measured at the 2p edges of Fe, Co, and Ni. The Voigt effect and magnetic linear dichroism (XMLD), which are even with respect to magnetization reversal, are applied to probe both FM and antiferromagnetic (AFM) materials. The magneto-optical and magnetic properties of Nd 3+ ions in Y 3Fe 5O 12 garnet are analyzed by using quantum theory. In the spontaneous state, the magneto-optical effects originate mainly from the intra-ionic electric dipole transitions between the 4 f 3 and 4 f 25d states split by the spin-orbit, crystal field, and superexchange interactions. For the excited configuration, the coupling scheme of Yanase is extended to the Nd 3+ ion. The magneto-optical resonance frequencies are mainly determined by the splitting of the 5d states induced by the crystal field. The theoretical results of both Nd magnetization and Faraday rotation are in good agreement with experiments. The observed Faraday rotation is proved to be of the paramagnetic type. Although the value of the magneto-optical resonance frequency derived from a macroscopic analysis is approximately confirmed by our theoretical study, a new assignment about the transitions associated with this resonance is unambiguously determined. The spin-orbit coupling of the ground configuration has a great influence on both the Faraday rotation and magnetization, but, unlike the theoretical results obtained in some metals and alloys, the relation between the Faraday rotation and the spin-orbit coupling strength is more complex than a linear one. The magnitude of the magneto-optical coefficient increases as the spin-orbit interaction strength of the ground configuration decreases when the strength is not very weak. Finally, the temperature dependence of the magneto-optical coefficient and the effect of the mixing of different ground-term multiplets induced by the crystal field are analyzed. The magneto-optical susceptibility and magnetic hysteresis loops of the Faraday effect, which accompany the technical magnetization of the iron garnet Tb3Fe5O12, have been investigated experimentally in the temperature region near the magnetic compensation point of this ferrimagnet T c = 249 K. It has been found that, during the technical magnetization as the temperature approaches the magnetic compensation point T c , the velocity of domain walls increases, whereas the magneto-optical susceptibility has local maxima to the right and to the left from T c . Mentioned features of magneto-optical properties of the iron garnet Tb3Fe5O12 are associated with the resonance natural frequency of the domain wall oscillations in the crystal with the frequency of the alternating magnetic field. It has been shown that the used theoretical model of the magnetic resonance of domain walls makes it possible to consistently describe (at the qualitative level) the revealed regularities of the variation of the Faraday effect in the iron garnet Tb3Fe5O12 near T c .  相似文献

For L10-FePt films with strong perpendicular anisotropy covered by arrays of hexagonal close-packed polystyrene spheres(PSSs),fine structures are observed in magneto-optical Kerr rotation spectra in the visible spectral range.The reflection minima are found to be located at the same wavelengths as the Kerr rotation peaks.The Kerr rotation enhancement is attributed to the excitation of both the surface plasmon polariton in the dielectric PSS/metal interface and the guide waves(guide mode)in the PSS array.The two-dimensional PSSs/SiO2/FePt system exhibiting a tunable magneto-optical Kerr effect and a high perpendicular magnetic anisotropy will be helpful for designing and fabricating magneto-optics devices.  相似文献

运用时间分辨抽运-探测光谱技术,研究了磁光晶体铽镓石榴石(TGG)在不同椭圆偏振态的飞秒激光脉冲诱导下的极化和磁化响应.研究表明,当仅存在逆法拉第效应时,探测光旋转角信号和椭圆率信号的变化方向与圆偏振抽运光的旋向相关.这是由于圆偏振光在TGG晶体中产生的瞬态有效磁场的方向依赖于圆偏振光的旋向所致.光诱导磁化过程与材料的性质有关,TGG晶体的顺磁特性决定了其自旋弛豫时间为几十飞秒.由于探测光旋转角信号和椭圆率信号的半高全宽均为500 fs左右,加之信号强度随着抽运光脉冲能量密度的增加呈线性增长,表明TGG晶 关键词: 铽镓石榴石晶体 抽运-探测光谱技术 逆法拉第效应  相似文献
