Fluorapatite glass-ceramics are osteoconductive, and glass-ceramics containing fluorapatite crystals in a bioactive silicate glass matrix can combine the benefits of fluorapatite with the bone-regenerative properties of bioactive glasses. High phosphate content (around 6 mol% P2O5) bioactive glasses (SiO2–P2O5–CaO–Na2O–CaF2) were prepared by a melt-quench route. Structural investigation using density measurements and calculations confirmed the presence of phosphorus as orthophosphate. Upon heat treatment, the glasses crystallised to mixed sodium calcium fluoride orthophosphates (sodium-containing compositions) and fluorapatite (sodium-free composition). Fluoride suppressed spontaneous crystallisation, allowing formation of glass-ceramics by controlled crystallisation. A notable feature is that silicate network polymerisation and network connectivity did not change during crystallisation, resulting in orthophosphate and fluorapatite crystals embedded within a bioactive glass matrix. By keeping the phosphate content high and the sodium content low, fluorapatite glass-ceramics can be obtained, while not affecting the structure of the bioactive silicate glass phase.  相似文献

Glasses, whose basic composition was based on the CaO-MgO-SiO2 system and doped with B2O3, P2O5, Na2O, and CaF2, were prepared by melting at 1400 °C for 1 h. Raman and infrared (IR) spectroscopy revealed that the main structural units in the glass network were predominantly Q1 and Q2 silicate species. The presence of phosphate and borate units in the structure of the glasses was also evident in these spectra. X-ray analysis showed that the investigated glasses devitrified at 750 °C and higher temperatures. The crystalline phases of diopside and wollastonite dominated, but weak peaks, assigned to akermanite and fluorapatite, were also registered in the diffractograms. The presence of B2O3, Na2O, and CaF2 had a negligible influence on the assemblage of the crystallized phases, but it caused a reduction of crystallization temperature, comparing to similar glasses of the CaO-MgO-SiO2 system.  相似文献

Effects of boron addition on the glass forming characteristics, structure and properties of iron phosphate glasses with nominal compositions of xB2O3-(40−x)Fe2O3-60P2O5 (x = 2-20, mol%) and xB2O3-(100−x)[Fe2O3-60P2O5] (x = 2-20, mol%) have been investigated by DTA, XRD, IR and Mössbauer spectroscopy. Although there were some weak local surface crystallizations on especially most of the glasses in group B, all of the compositions formed glass. DTA spectra showed two exothermic peaks corresponding to crystallizations along with an endothermic glass transition peak. Tg increased with increasing B2O3 content for the glasses in the first series which indicates that the addition of B2O3 increases the thermal stability of glasses in this series while the opposite is observed in the second series. The dissolution rates of boron containing bulk glasses were found to be around 10−9 gr/cm2 min which are comparable to that of the base iron phosphate glass. When the B2O3 content was above 14%, new bands related to BO4 tetrahedral groups have been observed in the IR spectra. The Mössbauer isomer shift values of boron doped glasses were found to be a little lower than that of base glass but both iron ions had distorted octahedral coordination in all glasses. The fraction of Fe2+ ions in glasses (Fe2+/∑(Fe2+ + Fe3+)) was found to be 23% for the base glass while it was 10-22% for the boron doped glasses.  相似文献

X-ray absorption spectra were collected and analyzed to characterize the strontium environments in borosilicate glass formulations developed for the immobilization of nuclear wastes. Sr can become a major constituent in some radioactive wastes because of the use of Sr-compounds in waste pretreatment processes. Data are presented for 13 borosilicate glasses that are used to simulate the anticipated waste glass compositions, where SrO concentrations range from approximately 2 to 30 wt%. The XANES data are statistically identical for all glasses investigated, and indicate divalent strontium. The EXAFS data for both crystalline standards and glasses appear to provide information only about the inner four to six coordinating oxygens that surround Sr. The data and analyses for all glasses show that the inner coordination environments around Sr have average Sr-O distances near 2.53 Å, which are statistically invariant with respect to glass composition and to various synthesis conditions. Sr-O distances determined for the glasses are within the shorter end of the range of individual Sr-O distances in the SrCO3 and haradaite (SrVSi2O7) crystalline standards.  相似文献

Alkali silicate glasses containing lanthanum oxide are useful model systems for understanding the structural role of rare earth cations in optical and other types of materials. We report 29Si and Raman spectra of sodium and potassium silicate glasses, both with added La2O3 and with La2O3 substituted for Na2O or K2O on an equal-oxygen basis. In the former series, silicate speciation changes show the formation of more non-bridging oxygens (NBO) as more of the network-modifying La2O3 is added. In the latter series, however, in which the nominal ratio of NBO to Si is constant, silicate speciation changes indicate that the actual ratio decreases significantly as La is substituted for 3 Na or K. The simplest explanation of this finding is that up to several percent of the oxygen in the La-rich glasses is not bonded to any Si, but instead forms `free oxide' ions that are part of La-rich domains. Although the size of these domains remains unconstrained, the lack of evidence for phase separation and continuity of trends in structure with composition suggests that the metastable liquid structure at the glass transition contains substantial intermediate-range heterogeneity.  相似文献

In the present study we report the results of 29Si, 27Al, 31P and 19F magic angle spinning nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy (MAS-NMR) of 4.5SiO2-3Al2O3-1.5P2O5-(5−z)CaO-zCaF2 glasses with z = 0-3 to elucidate the effect of fluoride content on the glass structure. The 29Si MAS-NMR spectra gave a chemical shift of about −90 ppm corresponding to Q3(3Al) and Q4(3Al). The 27Al MAS-NMR showed a large broad central peak around 50 ppm, which is assigned to four-coordinated Al linked via oxygen to P. A shoulder around 30 ppm and a small peak at about 0 to −10 ppm appeared in the 27Al MAS-NMR spectra of the glasses on increasing the fluoride content assigned to five-coordinated and six-coordinated Al species, respectively. The 31P MAS-NMR spectra indicated the presence of Al-O-P bonds. The 31P chemical shift decreased with increasing fluoride content as a result of calcium being complexed with fluoride. This resulted in a reduction of the number of available cations to charge balance non bridging oxygens in phosphorus and an increase in the number of Al-O-P bonds being formed, instead. The 19F spectra indicated the presence of Al-F-Ca(n) and F-Ca(n) species in all the glasses containing fluoride as well as an additional Si-F-Ca(n) species in the glasses with higher fluoride content.  相似文献

Strontium ions can promote bone growth and enhance bioactivity in bioactive glasses that find critical biomedical applications. In this paper, the effect of SrO/CaO substitution on the structure, ionic diffusion, and dynamic properties of 45S5 bioactive glasses has been studied using constant pressure molecular dynamics simulations with a set of effective partial charge potentials. The simulated structure models were validated by comparing with experimental neutron diffraction results. It was found that the SrO/CaO substitution leads to an increase of glass density and decrease of oxygen density, a measure of compactness of the glass, in excellent agreement with available experimental data. On the other hand, the substitution does not significantly change of the medium range glass structures as characterized by silicon and phosphorous Qn distributions, network connectivity, and ring size distributions. The diffusion and dynamic behavior of these glasses and their melts were also determined by calculating the mean square displacements and velocity autocorrelation functions. It was found that the diffusion energy barriers of sodium, calcium and strontium ions remain nearly constant with respect to the level of substitution. However, strontium ions do influence the diffusion behaviors of calcium and sodium ions at high temperature, as evidenced from their velocity autocorrelation functions. Like calcium and sodium, strontium ions only contribute to the lower frequency (around 100 cm? 1) of the vibrational spectra the substitution has little effect on high frequency features and the general shape of the vibrational density of states. These results suggest that the increase of the dissolution rate in strontium containing glasses are mainly due to the increase of free volume and the non-local effect that weakens the silicon-oxygen network due to strontium ions.  相似文献

Glasses in the system x B2O3(1 − x) [y CaO P2O5], (x = 0, 0.1, 0.2, 0.3, y = 2, 2.6, 3, 4, 5) have been prepared by fast quenching of high temperature melts. The presence of B2O3 affected the glass forming ability, allowing the preparation of calcium phosphate glasses with y ? 2.6. The structure of glasses was analyzed by μ-Raman and infrared spectroscopy. The analysis indicated that the glass network is dominated by highly charged species from phosphate tetrahedra with 3 (pyro) or 4 (ortho) NBOs, while the boron atoms are incorporated mainly in 3 coordinated sites in the form of B∅3 or B∅2O units. A small fraction of units was also evident from the spectra analysis of glasses with high CaO content. All calcium borophosphate glasses exhibited bioactivity after soaking in SBF solution within a few days. This was observed by μ-Raman and SEM microscopy, while XRD patterns clearly revealed growth of hydroxyapatite phase. The presence of boron in the glass network has a catalytic effect at favoring bioactivity of the otherwise bioinert calcium phosphate glasses.  相似文献

The EPR and optical spectra of vanadium in glasses of ternary Al2O3P2O5SiO2 and Al2O3P2O5B2O3 systems have been measured. The results were compared with earlier data for vanadium in binary phosphate, aluminophosphate and silicaphosphate glasses and with results of de-Biasi for V4+ in crystalline powder α-crystobalite AlPO4. The superpositions of two hyperfine spectra (ASB-I and ASB-II) were found for many glasses of ternary systems. Both spectra can be attributed to VO2+ ions. The intensity ratio of the ASB-II spectrum to ASB-I depends on glass composition but is great (> 7) for all the glasses. Only the ASB-II spectrum was observed in glasses with low concentration of Al2O3. The spectral parameters of ASB-II spectrum are g| = 1.916–1.921; g 1.980–1.988; A| = (188?190) × 10?4cm?1 and A = (74–77) × 10?4cm?1. Three intense bands at 370, 455 and 700 ans 720 nm observed in these glasses can be attributed to V3+ ions. The excellent agreement of the parameters of the EPR spectrum of V4+ ions in crystalline α-crystobalite AIPO4 and ASB-II spectra in the glasses under study suggest the identical electron structure of the paramagnetic species. This species is believed to be characterized by optical bands at 680 and 790 nm which have been observed by de Biasi. The orbital mixing coefficients indicate strong tetragonal distortion of vanadyl complexes responsible for the ASB-II spectrum. It is assumed that VO2+ ions responsible for this spectrum act as modifiers fitting into the relatively small holes of the three-dimensional networks of phosphate glasses containing no cations of large radii. The microscopic basicity of oxygens in such holes must be about 0.48.  相似文献

Calcium aluminosilicate and calcium fluoro-aluminosilicate glasses have been characterized by 29Si, 27Al and 19F MAS-NMR. The two calcium aluminosilicate glasses examined were based on the composition 2SiO2 · Al2O3 · 2CaO (ART1) and the mineral anorthite 2SiO2 · Al2O3 · CaO (ART2). The observed chemical shifts for 29Si and 27Al agreed with previous studies. The fluorine containing glasses were based on 2SiO2 · Al2O3 · (2−X)CaO · XCaF2. The 29Si chemical shift moved in a negative direction with increase fluorine content indicating a progressive reduction in the average number of non-bridging oxygens, NBO, attached to a silicon. The 27Al spectra indicated the presence of four coordinate aluminium in the glasses with X=0.0-0.75, but aluminium was present in Al(IV), Al(V) and Al(VI) coordination states in the highest fluorine content glass with X=1.0. The 19F spectra indicated the presence of F-Ca(n) in low fluorine content glasses and both F-Ca(n) and Al-F-Ca(n) in high fluorine content glasses. We speculate here that the Al-F-Ca(n) species are oxyfluorides [AlOxFy]n, where x=1-6, y=1-6 and n is the charge on the total complex when aluminium is in Al(IV), Al(V) and Al(VI) coordinate states. The reduction in the average number of NBO per silicon with increasing fluorine content is explained by fluorine converting Ca2+ to F-Ca(n).  相似文献

Solar furnace melting and fast-quench techniques have been used to prepare calcium aluminate glasses from 75 mol% CaO to 82 mol% Al2O3, which have been studied by Raman spectroscopy. The CaAl2O4 glass spectrum may be interpreted in terms of a fully-polymerized network of tetrahedral aluminate units, which is depolymerized on addition of CaO component analogous to binary silicate systems. The spectra of glasses with higher alumina content than CaAl2O4 may not be simply interpreted and a structural model is proposed which would be consistent with the glass spectra and with observed crystal structures along the CaAl2O4Al2O3 join. This model suggests formation of highly condensed aluminate tetrahedral on initial addition of alumina, with the appearance of aluminate polyhedra of higher average coordination at higher alumina content. Similar high coordination polyhedral are also suggested for a limited composition range along the CaOCaAl2O4 join. These interpretations are compared with the results of a previous study in the SiO2Al2O3 glass system.  相似文献

A series of Eu ion-doped aluminoborosilicate glasses was prepared by melt-quenching method and characterized by spectroscopic techniques, including Fourier transform infrared (FTIR), absorption, photoluminescence (PL), and electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR). The FTIR spectra showed that various glass structures formed when Al2O3 was partially replaced by B2O3. The PL characterization revealed that the emission intensity of Eu2+ ions firstly increased and then decreased with an increasing amount of Al2O3 replaced by B2O3. Meanwhile, the emission intensity ratio of [Eu2+]/[Eu3+] also followed the same trend. The EPR spectra confirmed the concentration variation of Eu2+ ions in the glass samples, which agreed well with the PL results. The possible mechanism of the effect of the glass network structure on the reduction behavior of Eu ions is discussed.  相似文献

Local structure of the SnO-B2O3 glasses was investigated using several spectroscopic techniques. 11B MAS-NMR spectra suggested that BO4 tetrahedral units maximized at around the composition with 50 mol% SnO. The BO4 units were still present at compositions with high SnO content (67 mol% SnO), suggesting that SnO acted not only as a network modifier but also as a network former. O1s photoelectron spectra revealed that the addition of small amounts of SnO formed non-bridging oxygens (NBO) (B-O?Sn) and the amounts of NBO increased with an increase in SnO content. 119Sn Mössbauer spectra indicated that Sn was present only as Sn(II) in the glasses. The structure of the SnO-B2O3 glasses was compared with that of conventional alkali borate glasses and lead borate glasses. The thermal and viscous properties of these glasses were discussed on the basis of the glass structure revealed in the present study.  相似文献

Vitreous compositions in the (0.55−x)Na2O:xSrO:0.45P2O5 (0?x?0.55) system were characterized by differential scanning calorimetry and 31P solid state NMR. High strontium containing glasses were found to be partly crystallized. In the pure glass samples a general increase in Tg and a decrease in isotropic chemical shift with increasing x were observed. Two distinct linear ranges were observed in plots of these parameters against composition, with a transition point at x≈0.20. This composition corresponds to the point at which all Na+ ions associated with charge balance of the terminal Q1 phosphate tetrahedra are substituted for Sr2+. In the mixed cation glasses, this suggests a non-random distribution of cations, with preferential location of Sr2+ ions near the chain ends. Crystalline models have been used to discuss trends in the variation of chemical shift anisotropy and propose possible coordination environments for the metal cations in the glasses.  相似文献

The structure of glasses within the system Li2O–Al2O3–B2O3–P2O5 has been studied through 31P, 11B and 27Al Nuclear Magnetic Resonance, and the effect of Al2O3 substitution by B2O3 and P2O5 network formers on the structure and properties investigated for a constant Li2O content. Multinuclear NMR results reveal that substitution of Al2O3 for B2O3 and P2O5 network formers in a glass with composition 50Li2O·15B2O3·35P2O5 produces a change in boron environment from four-fold to three-fold coordination. Meanwhile aluminum can be present in four-, five- and six-fold coordinations a higher amount of Al(IV) groups is found for increasing alumina contents. The behavior of the glass transition temperature and electrical conductivity of the glasses has been interpreted as a function of the structural changes induced in the glass network when alumina is substituted for B2O3, P2O5 or both. Small additions of alumina produce a drastic increase in glass transition temperature, while it does not change for [Al2O3] greater than 3 mol.%. However, the electrical conductivity shows very different behavior depending on the type of substitution; it can remain constant when B2O3 content decreases or sharply decrease when P2O5 is substituted by Al2O3, which is attributed to a higher amount of BO3 and phase separation.  相似文献

ZnO–B2O3–P2O5 glasses doped with MoO3 were investigated in the series (100?x)[0.5ZnO–0.1B2O3–0.4P2O5]–xMoO3, where bulk glasses were obtained by slow cooling in air within the compositional region of 0 ? x ? 60 mol% MoO3. The incorporation of MoO3 into the parent zinc borophosphate glass results in a weakening of bond strength in the structural network, which induces a decrease in chemical durability and glass transition temperature. Raman spectra reflect the incorporation of molybdate groups into the glass network of the studied glasses by the presence of the polarized vibrational band at ≈976 cm?1 ascribed to the MOx symmetric stretching vibrations and the depolarized band at ≈878 cm?1 ascribed to the Mo–O–Mo stretching vibration. The incorporation of molybdate units into the glass network results in the depolymerization of phosphate chains and the formation of P–O–Mo bonds, as reflected in Raman and 31P NMR spectra. According to the 11B MAS NMR spectra, tetrahedral B(OP)4?x(OMo)x units are formed in the glasses, whereas only a small amount of BO4 units is converted to BO3 units in the MoO3-rich glasses.  相似文献

20ZnF2-30As2O3-(50 − x)TeO2:xNiO (0 ≤ x ≤ 2.0) glasses were synthesized. The glasses were characterized by X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, EDS and DSC techniques. A variety of properties, i.e. optical absorption, infrared, magnetic susceptibilities and dielectric properties (constant ?′, loss tan δ, a.c. conductivity σac over a wide range of frequency and temperature) of these glasses have been carried out. The analysis of results of all these studies has indicated that the nickel ions occupy both octahedral and tetrahedral positions and the gradual increase of NiO content in the glass matrix causes growing proportions of Ni2+ ions that occupy octahedral positions. The luminescence spectra of these glasses have exhibited a broad emission band in region 1200-1450 nm identified due to 3T2(3F) → 3A2(3F) octahedral transition of Ni2+ ions. The luminescence efficiency and cross section have been found to be the highest for the glass containing highest concentration of NiO. Finally it is concluded that the higher the concentration of octahedrally positioned Ni2+ ions, the higher is the luminescence efficiency.  相似文献

We studied the local structure and dynamics of dissolved water in hydrous aluminosilicate glasses with the compositions NaAlSi3O8·0.3H2O, NaAlSi3O8·1.3H2O and Ca0.5AlSi3O8·1.3H2O by using multinuclear NMR spectroscopy. Glasses were produced by melting glass powders with deuterium oxide under high pressure and the resulting 2H/(1H + 2H) ratio of the hydrous glasses was larger than 80%. NMR spectra reveal clear evidence for the presence of OH groups as well as of H2O molecules. The motion of these water species in the time range from some μs to some ms was studied by 1H NMR relaxation rates and the temperature dependence of the 2H NMR spectra. The motion is faster in the Ca-bearing glass than in the Na-bearing glass. The results are compared with those from quasi-elastic neutron scattering.  相似文献

The effect of the variation in phosphate (P2O5) content on the structure of two series of bioactive glasses in the quaternary system SiO2-Na2O-CaO-P2O5 was studied. The first series (I) was a simple substitution of P2O5 for SiO2 keeping the Na2O:CaO ratio fixed (1.00:0.87). The second series was designed to ensure charge neutrality in the orthophosphate , therefore as P2O5 was added the Na2O and CaO content was varied to provide sufficient Na+ and Ca2+ cations to charge balance the orthophosphate present. The glass network connectivity (NC) was calculated for each glass and a modification for the presence of a separate P2O5 phase was included (NC′). 31P and 29Si magic-angle-spinning nuclear magnetic resonance (MAS-NMR) spectroscopy was performed on glass series I and II to determine the structural units present and their relation to glass properties. 31P MAS-NMR spectra of series I resulted in a broad resonance around 9 ppm corresponding to orthophosphate in an amorphous environment. The 9.25 mol% P2O5 glass shown to be partially crystalline by X-ray diffraction was heat treated, and the 31P MAS-NMR spectrum showed a sharp peak around 3 ppm corresponding to calcium orthophosphate or sodium pyrophosphate and overlapping broader peaks at 8.5, 10.5 and 14 ppm possibly corresponding to two mixed calcium-sodium orthophosphate phases and amorphous sodium orthophosphate respectively. 31P MAS-NMR spectra of series II resulted in a broad resonance around 10.5 ppm corresponding to orthophosphate in an amorphous environment. 29Si MAS-NMR spectra of glasses from series I showed a shift in the resonance peak from around −78 to −86 ppm indicating an increase in Q3 species in the glass and a reduction in Q2 with phosphate addition confirming the presence of orthophosphate. The heat treated sample showed a sharp 29Si-NMR resonance at −88 ppm, indicating a crystalline Q2 six-membered combeite (Na2O · 2CaO · 3SiO2) silicate-type phase, which was confirmed by powder X-ray diffraction. 29Si MAS-NMR spectra of glasses from series II showed no shift in the resonance at around −78 ppm across the series, confirming an orthophosphate environment.  相似文献

The crystallization of fluoroindate glasses doped with Gd3+, Mn2+ and Cu2+ heat treated at different temperatures, ranging from the glass transition temperature (Tg) to the crystallization temperature (Tc), are investigated by electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) and 19F nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR). The EPR spectra indicate that the Cu2+ ions in the glass are located in axially distorted octahedral sites. In the crystallized glass, the g-values agreed with those reported for Ba2ZnF6, which correspond to Cu2+ in a tetragonal compressed F octahedron and to Cu2+ on interstitial sites with a square-planar F co-ordination. The EPR spectra of the Mn2+ doped glasses exhibit a sextet structure due to the Mn2+ hyperfine interaction. These spectra suggest a highly ordered environment for the Mn2+ ions (close to octahedral symmetry) in the glass. The EPR spectra of the recrystallized sample exhibit resonances at the same position, suggesting that the Mn2+ ions are located in sites of highly symmetric crystalline field. The increase of the line intensity of the sextet and the decrease of the background line in the thermal treated samples suggest that the Mn2+ ions move to the highly ordered sites which contribute to the sextet structure. The EPR spectra of the Gd3+ doped glasses exhibit the typical U-spectrum of a s-state ion in a low symmetry site in disordered systems. The EPR of the crystallized glasses, in contrast, have shown a strong resonance in g  2.0, suggesting Gd3+ ions in environment close to cubic symmetry. The 19F NMR spin–lattice relaxation rates were also strongly influenced by the crystallization process that takes over in samples annealed above Tc. For the glass samples (doped or undoped) the 19F magnetization recoveries were found to be adjusted by an exponential function and the spin–lattice relaxation was characterized by a single relaxation time. In contrast, for the samples treated above Tc, the 19F magnetization-recovery becomes non-exponential. A remarkable feature of our results is that the changes in the Cu2+, Mn2+, Gd3+ EPR spectra and NMR relaxation, are always observed for the samples annealed above Tc.  相似文献
