Let E be an elliptic curve over a number field K. Let h be the logarithmic (or Weil) height on E and be the canonical height on E. Bounds for the difference are of tremendous theoretical and practical importance. It is possible to decompose as a weighted sum of continuous bounded functions Ψυ:E(Kυ)→R over the set of places υ of K. A standard method for bounding , (due to Lang, and previously employed by Silverman) is to bound each function Ψυ and sum these local ‘contributions’.In this paper, we give simple formulae for the extreme values of Ψυ for non-archimedean υ in terms of the Tamagawa index and Kodaira symbol of the curve at υ.For real archimedean υ a method for sharply bounding Ψυ was previously given by Siksek [Rocky Mountain J. Math. 25(4) (1990) 1501]. We complement this by giving two methods for sharply bounding Ψυ for complex archimedean υ.  相似文献

Let E/Q be an elliptic curve with no CM and a fixed modular parametrization and let be Heegner points attached to the rings of integers of distinct quadratic imaginary fields k1,…,kr. We prove that if the odd parts of the class numbers of k1,…,kr are larger than a constant C=C(E,ΦE) depending only on E and ΦE, then the points P1,…,Pr are independent in .  相似文献

Let E be an elliptic curve over F=Fq(t) having conductor (p)·∞, where (p) is a prime ideal in Fq[t]. Let dFq[t] be an irreducible polynomial of odd degree, and let . Assume (p) remains prime in K. We prove the analogue of the formula of Gross for the special value L(EFK,1). As a consequence, we obtain a formula for the order of the Tate-Shafarevich group Ш(E/K) when L(EFK,1)≠0.  相似文献

We define and investigate extension groups in the context of Arakelov geometry. The “arithmetic extension groups” we introduce are extensions by groups of analytic types of the usual extension groups attached to OX-modules F and G over an arithmetic scheme X. In this paper, we focus on the first arithmetic extension group - the elements of which may be described in terms of admissible short exact sequences of hermitian vector bundles over X - and we especially consider the case when X is an “arithmetic curve”, namely the spectrum SpecOK of the ring of integers in some number field K. Then the study of arithmetic extensions over X is related to old and new problems concerning lattices and the geometry of numbers.Namely, for any two hermitian vector bundles and over X:=SpecOK, we attach a logarithmic size to any element α of , and we give an upper bound on in terms of slope invariants of and . We further illustrate this notion by relating the sizes of restrictions to points in P1(Z) of the universal extension over to the geometry of PSL2(Z) acting on Poincaré's upper half-plane, and by deducing some quantitative results in reduction theory from our previous upper bound on sizes. Finally, we investigate the behaviour of size by base change (i.e., under extension of the ground field K to a larger number field K): when the base field K is Q, we establish that the size, which cannot increase under base change, is actually invariant when the field K is an abelian extension of K, or when is a direct sum of root lattices and of lattices of Voronoi's first kind. The appendices contain results concerning extensions in categories of sheaves on ringed spaces, and lattices of Voronoi's first kind which might also be of independent interest.  相似文献

Let ∞ be a fixed place of a global function field k. Let E be an elliptic curve defined over k which has split multiplicative reduction at ∞ and fix a modular parametrization ΦE:X0(N)→E. Let be Heegner points associated to the rings of integers of distinct quadratic “imaginary” fields K1,…,Kr over (k,∞). We prove that if the “prime-to-2p” part of the ideal class numbers of ring of integers of K1,…,Kr are larger than a constant C=C(E,ΦE) depending only on E and ΦE, then the points P1,…,Pr are independent in . Moreover, when k is rational, we show that there are infinitely many imaginary quadratic fields for which the prime-to-2p part of the class numbers are larger than C.  相似文献

Let G be the product of an abelian variety and a torus defined over a number field K. Let R be a K-rational point on G of infinite order. Call nR the number of connected components of the smallest algebraic K-subgroup of G to which R belongs. We prove that nR is the greatest positive integer which divides the order of for all but finitely many primes p of K. Furthermore, let m>0 be a multiple of nR and let S be a finite set of rational primes. Then there exists a positive Dirichlet density of primes p of K such that for every ? in S the ?-adic valuation of the order of equals v?(m).  相似文献

Let K be a quadratic imaginary number field with discriminant DK≠-3,-4 and class number one. Fix a prime p?7 which is not ramified in K and write hp for the class number of the ray class field of K of conductor p. Given an elliptic curve A/K with complex multiplication by K, let be the representation which arises from the action of Galois on the Tate module. Herein it is shown that if then the image of a certain deformation of is “as big as possible”, that is, it is the full inverse image of a Cartan subgroup of SL(2,Zp). The proof rests on the theory of Siegel functions and elliptic units as developed by Kubert, Lang and Robert.  相似文献

Let R be a complete discrete valuation -algebra whose residue field is algebraic over , and let K denote its fraction field. In this paper, we study the structure of τ-sheaves M without good reduction on the curve , seen as a rigid analytic space. One motivation is the Tate uniformization theorem for t-motives of Drinfeld modules, which we want to extend to general τ-sheaves. On the other hand, we are interested in the action of inertia on a generic Tate module T?(M) of M.For a given τ-sheaf M on , we prove the existence of a maximal model for M on , an R-model of , and, over a finite separable extension R′ of R, of nondegenerate models for M.We prove the following ‘semistability’ theorem: there exists a finite extension K′ of K, a nonempty open subscheme C′⊂C, and a filtration

Let k be a number field with algebraic closure , and let S be a finite set of primes of k, containing all the infinite ones. Consider a Chebyshev dynamical system on P2. Fix the effective divisor D of P2 that is equal to a line nondegenerate on2[−2,2]. Then we will prove that the set of preperiodic points on which are S-integral relative to D is not Zariski dense in P2.  相似文献

Let X be a smooth curve over a finite field of characteristic p, let ?≠p be a prime number, and let be an irreducible lisse -sheaf on X whose determinant is of finite order. By a theorem of L. Lafforgue, for each prime number ?′≠p, there exists an irreducible lisse -sheaf on X which is compatible with , in the sense that at every closed point x of X, the characteristic polynomials of Frobenius at x for and are equal. We prove an “independence of ?” assertion on the fields of definition of these irreducible ?′-adic sheaves : namely, that there exists a number field F such that for any prime number ?′≠p, the -sheaf above is defined over the completion of F at one of its ?′-adic places.  相似文献

Let K be a number field, an algebraic closure of K and E/K an elliptic curve defined over K. Let GK be the absolute Galois group of over K. This paper proves that there is a subset Σ⊆GK of Haar measure 1 such that for every σ∈Σ, the spectrum of σ in the natural representation of GK consists of all roots of unity, each of infinite multiplicity. Also, this paper proves that any complex conjugation automorphism in GK has the eigenvalue -1 with infinite multiplicity in the representation space of GK.  相似文献

In a previous paper Najman (in press) [9], the author examined the possible torsions of an elliptic curve over the quadratic fields Q(i) and . Although all the possible torsions were found if the elliptic curve has rational coefficients, we were unable to eliminate some possibilities for the torsion if the elliptic curve has coefficients that are not rational. In this note, by finding all the points of two hyperelliptic curves over Q(i) and , we solve this problem completely and thus obtain a classification of all possible torsions of elliptic curves over Q(i) and .

Let Ed(x) denote the “Euler polynomial” x2+x+(1−d)/4 if and x2d if . Set Ω(n) to be the number of prime factors (counting multiplicity) of the positive integer n. The Ono invariantOnod of is defined to be except when d=−1,−3 in which case Onod is defined to be 1. Finally, let hd=hk denote the class number of K. In 2002 J. Cohen and J. Sonn conjectured that hd=3⇔Onod=3 and is a prime. They verified that the conjecture is true for p<1.5×107. Moreover, they proved that the conjecture holds for p>1017 assuming the extended Riemann Hypothesis. In this paper, we show that the conjecture holds for p?2.5×1013 by the aid of computer. And using a result of Bach, we also proved that the conjecture holds for p>2.5×1013 assuming the extended Riemann Hypothesis. In conclusion, we proved the conjecture is true assuming the extended Riemann Hypothesis.  相似文献

Let X be a reduced connected k-scheme pointed at a rational point xX(k). By using tannakian techniques we construct the Galois closure of an essentially finite k-morphism f:YX satisfying the condition H0(Y,OY)=k; this Galois closure is a torsor dominating f by an X-morphism and universal for this property. Moreover, we show that is a torsor under some finite group scheme we describe. Furthermore we prove that the direct image of an essentially finite vector bundle over Y is still an essentially finite vector bundle over X. We develop for torsors and essentially finite morphisms a Galois correspondence similar to the usual one. As an application we show that for any pointed torsor f:YX under a finite group scheme satisfying the condition H0(Y,OY)=k, Y has a fundamental group scheme π1(Y,y) fitting in a short exact sequence with π1(X,x).  相似文献

Let be the negative of a prime, and OK its ring of integers. Let D be a prime ideal in OK of prime norm congruent to . Under these assumptions, there exists Hecke characters ψD of K with conductor (D) and infinite type (1,0). Their L-series L(ψD,s) are associated to a CM elliptic curve A(N,D) defined over the Hilbert class field of K. We will prove a Waldspurger-type formula for L(ψD,s) of the form L(ψD,1)=Ω∑[A],Ir(D,[A],I)m[A],I([D]) where the sum is over class ideal representatives I of a maximal order in the quaternion algebra ramified at |N| and infinity and [A] are class group representatives of K. An application of this formula for the case N=-7 will allow us to prove the non-vanishing of a family of L-series of level 7|D| over K.  相似文献

For 2?m?l/2, let G be a simply connected Lie group with as Lie algebra, let be the complexification of the usual Cartan decomposition, let K be the analytic subgroup with Lie algebra , and let be the universal enveloping algebra of . This work examines the unitarity and K spectrum of representations in the “analytic continuation” of discrete series of G, relating these properties to orbits in the nilpotent radical of a certain parabolic subalgebra of .The roots with respect to the usual compact Cartan subalgebra are all ±ei±ej with 1?i<j?l. In the usual positive system of roots, the simple root emem+1 is noncompact and the other simple roots are compact. Let be the parabolic subalgebra of for which emem+1 contributes to and the other simple roots contribute to , let L be the analytic subgroup of G with Lie algebra , let , let be the sum of the roots contributing to , and let be the parabolic subalgebra opposite to .The members of are nilpotent members of . The group acts on with finitely many orbits, and the topological closure of each orbit is an irreducible algebraic variety. If Y is one of these varieties, let R(Y) be the dual coordinate ring of Y; this is a quotient of the algebra of symmetric tensors on that carries a fully reducible representation of .For , let . Then λs defines a one-dimensional module . Extend this to a module by having act by 0, and define . Let be the unique irreducible quotient of . The representations under study are and , where and ΠS is the Sth derived Bernstein functor. For s>2l−2, it is known that πs=πs′ and that πs′ is in the discrete series. Enright, Parthsarathy, Wallach, and Wolf showed for m?s?2l−2 that πs=πs′ and that πs′ is still unitary. The present paper shows that πs′ is unitary for 0?s?m−1 even though πsπs′, and it relates the K spectrum of the representations πs′ to the representation of on a suitable R(Y) with Y depending on s. Use of a branching formula of D. E. Littlewood allows one to obtain an explicit multiplicity formula for each K type in πs′; the variety Y is indispensable in the proof. The chief tools involved are an idea of B. Gross and Wallach, a geometric interpretation of Littlewood's theorem, and some estimates of norms. It is shown further that the natural invariant Hermitian form on πs′ does not make πs′ unitary for s<0 and that the K spectrum of πs′ in these cases is not related in the above way to the representation of on any R(Y).A final section of the paper treats in similar fashion the simply connected Lie group with Lie algebra , 2?m?l/2.  相似文献
