A sublattice of the Leech lattice

In this paper a rank 12 even lattice C is constructed which is type 3 (if v ϵ C then (v, v) ⩾ 6), and which has the following maximality property: C ⊕ C + 3 · Λ₂₄ can be embedded in the Leech lattice Λ₂₄, and is a maximal type 3 sublattice of Λ₂₄. The construction uses properties of the binary and ternary Golay codes.     

The calculus of reflections and the order relation in hyperbolic geometry

It is well known that the calculus of reflections (developed by Hjelmslev, Bachmann et?al.) enables the derivation of a large part of Euclidean and non-Euclidean geometry without using assumptions about order and continuity. We show in this article that the calculus of reflections can conversely be used to introduce a relation of order in hyperbolic geometry. Our investigations are based on the famous ??Endenrechnung?? of Hilbert which was formulated purely in terms of the calculus of reflections by F. Bachmann. We then discuss some implications of these results and show that the calculus of reflections enables (1) the introduction of an order relation in a Pappian projective line and (2) to define an axiom system for hyperbolic planes which seems to be as simple as the famous axiom system of Menger who only used the notion of point-line incidence to axiomatize plane hyperbolic geometry.     

The asymptotic distribution of lattice points in hyperbolic space

Suppose x and y are two points in the upper half-plane H⁺, and suppose Γ is a discontinuous group of conformal automorphisms of H⁺ having compact fundamental domain S. Denote by N_T(x, y) the number of points of the form γy (γ?Γ) in the closed disc of hyperbolic radius T centered about x, and set $\text{Q}{}_{\mathrm{T}}\text{(x, y) = N}{}_{\mathrm{T}}\text{(x, y) ?}\text{V(T)}\text{A}\text{,}\text{where}\text{V(T)}$ is the hyperbolic area of the disc, and A is the hyperbolic area of S. The asymptotic behavior of the quantity ?_LxL(Q_T(x,y))² is estimated in terms of small eigenvalues of the Laplacian on functions automorphic under Γ.

The curve complex and covers via hyperbolic 3-manifolds

Rafi and Schleimer recently proved that the natural relation between curve complexes induced by a covering map between two surfaces is a quasi-isometric embedding. We offer another proof of this result using a distance estimate via hyperbolic 3-manifolds.     

n-Dimensional hyperbolic complex numbers

Direct product rings have received relatively little attention, perhaps because they are sometimes labeled “trivial” [8, p.6]. Nevertheless, the 2-dimensional direct product ring of the reals, when expressed in the “hyperbolic basis”, is analogous in many ways to the system of complex numbers and also has a physical interpretation. This prompted an exploratory foray into the world ofn-dimensional direct product rings of the reals to see how much can be extended from the 2-dimensional case (see, e.g. [3,4,5]). Section 1 provides algebraic notation, up to the point of defining polar coordinates. Section 2 uses analysis to explore differentiability and conformality.     

The moduli space of hyperbolic compact complex spaces

In this paper, we construct the moduli space of reduced hyperbolic compact complex spaces. First, we prove an infinitesimal characterization of hyperbolicity using a family of Kobayashi–Royden pseudo-metrics introduced by Venturini and as a consequence we conclude that the property of Landau holds for complex spaces. Finally, we establish this moduli space in the case of locally trivial deformations, and in a more general situation, the case of equisingular deformations.     

The generating rank of the space of short vectors in the Leech lattice mod 2

Consider the partial linear space on the images in Λ/2Λ of the shortest nonzero vectors in the Leech lattice Λ, where the lines are the triples of vectors adding up to zero. We determine the universal embedding dimension and the generating rank of this space (both are 24) and classify its hyperplanes.     

Orthogonal designs,self‐dual codes,and the Leech lattice

Symmetric designs and Hadamard matrices are used to construct binary and ternary self‐dual codes. Orthogonal designs are shown to be useful in construction of self‐dual codes over large fields. In this paper, we first introduce a new array of order 12, which is suitable for any set of four amicable circulant matrices. We apply some orthogonal designs of order 12 to construct new self‐dual codes over large finite fields, which lead us to the odd Leech lattice by Construction A. © 2005 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Number of lattice points in the hyperbolic cross

Symplectic reflections and complex space forms

We prove that a Hermitian manifold is a complex space form if and only if the local reflections with respect to any holomorphic surface are symplectic, i.e., preserve the Kähler form.     

On the distribution of Farey fractions and hyperbolic lattice points

We derive an asymptotic formula for the number of pairs of consecutive fractions a0=q0 and a=q in the Farey sequence of order Q such that a=q; q=Q; and (Q - q0)=q lie each in prescribed subintervals of the interval [0; 1]. We deduce the leading term in the asymptotic formula for `the hyperbolic lattice point problem" for the modular group PSL(2; Z ), the number of images of a given point under the action of the group in a given circle in the hyperbolic plane.     

Balls in complex hyperbolic manifolds

We get an explicit lower bound for the radius of a Bergman ball contained in the Dirichlet fundamental polyhedron of a torsion free discrete group G伡PU(n,1)acting on complex hyperbolic space.As an application,we also give a lower bound for the volumes of complex hyperbolic n-manifolds.
