We discuss the temperature dependence of the nuclear quadrupolar spin relaxation rate in metals and alloys. Four different relaxation processes must be distinguished: Hard collisions, diffusion, decay of associates and rotational diffusion. The latter two processes are important in alloys of strongly interacting alloying partners, the former in pure metals (collision) and ideal or regular mixtures. Diffusion is important if the alloying partners produce different electrical field gradients.  相似文献

The observation of a rotating frame Larmor frequency dependence in the proton spin relaxation of glycerol lends support to a recent study of proton spin relaxation in this substance. Comparison of the data to recent theories describing spin relaxation by translational diffusion strongly suggest that this is the dominant relaxation process in glycerol near room temperature. In addition, the measurement of the self-diffusion coefficient of glycerol, at a temperature lower than has been previously reported, indicates that this rotating frame technique may be useful in the study of diffusion in viscous media.  相似文献

The polarization produced by the relative displacement of the potentials trapping two spin species of a dilute Fermi gas with N=N is calculated at unitarity by assuming phase separation between the superfluid and a polarized phase at zero temperature. Because of the energy cost associated with pair breaking, the dipole polarizability is strongly quenched and exhibits important deviations from the ideal gas behavior even for nonlinear displacements of the order of the size of the atomic cloud. The behavior in the presence of different trapping frequencies (monopole polarization) for the two spin species is also discussed. Our results suggest new experimental perspectives to explore the quantum phases of interacting Fermi gases.  相似文献

We report a model-independent measurement of the entropy, energy, and critical temperature of a degenerate, strongly interacting Fermi gas of atoms. The total energy is determined from the mean square cloud size in the strongly interacting regime, where the gas exhibits universal behavior. The entropy is measured by sweeping a bias magnetic field to adiabatically tune the gas from the strongly interacting regime to a weakly interacting regime, where the entropy is known from the cloud size after the sweep. The dependence of the entropy on the total energy quantitatively tests predictions of the finite-temperature thermodynamics.  相似文献

A theory is proposed for kinetic effects in isotropic Heisenberg antiferromagnets at temperatures above the Néel point. The scaling behavior of the generalized coefficient of spin diffusion and relaxation constant in the paramagnetic phase is studied in terms of the approximation of interacting modes. It is shown that the kinetic coefficients in an antiferromagnetic system are singular in the fluctuation region. The corresponding critical indices for diffusion and relaxation processes are calculated. The scaling dimensionality of the kinetic coefficients agrees with the predictions of dynamic similarity theory and a renormalization group analysis. The proposed theory can be used to study the momentum and frequency dependence of the kinetic parameters, and to determine the form of the scaling functions. We consider a spin-1/2 tube (a three-leg ladder with periodic boundary conditions) with a Hamiltonian given by two projection operators-one on the triangles and the other on the square plaquettes on the side of the tube-that can be written in terms of Heisenberg and four-spin ring exchange interactions. We identify 3 phases: (i)?for strongly antiferromagnetic exchange on the triangles, an exact ground state with a gapped spectrum can be given as an alternation of spin and chirality singlet bonds between nearest triangles; (ii)?for ferromagnetic exchange on the triangles, we recover the phase of the spin-3/2 Heisenberg chain; (iii)?between these two phases, a gapless incommensurate phase exists. We construct an exact ground state with two deconfined domain walls and a gapless excitation spectrum at the quantum phase transition point between the incommensurate and dimerized phases.  相似文献

We have recently developed a method of studying spin diffusion coefficients by doping the materials with paramagnetic centers and measuring the nuclear relaxation in a tilted rotating frame. Using this method, we measure here the spin diffusion coefficient of orthoterphenyl, a molecular organic glass, and of three polymer glasses: poly(4-vinylpyridine), poly(vinylacetate) and poly(methyl methacrylate). We explore a possible dependence of the measured orthoterphenyl spin diffusion coefficient on the electronic relaxation time and concentration of the paramagnetic centers. We conclude that the experiments can be performed at higher concentrations than previously thought. We also show that our method applies to polymers in the glassy state if one works at sufficiently small tilt angle, in spite of a short value ofT . We had anticipated that the distribution of proton pairs in these materials precludes the standard dependence of the spin diffusion coefficient on the proton density and free induction decay characteristic decay time. Our results fully confirm such expectation.  相似文献

自旋扩散在固体核磁共振的许多现象中都起着非常重要的作用。现有几种理论方案以估算扩散系数。然而在实践中这种估算既不实际也不可靠。本文提出了确定自旋扩散速率的新方案,它利用的是CP MAS NMR中的稀核退极化规律。带质子的稀核磁化矢量在退极化中表现出两个阶段,慢衰减的第二阶段是单一指数过程,它提供了自旋扩散速率的直接度量。自旋扩散实质上是极化转移的一种宏观表现形式,这种转移通过一系列成对自旋的flip-flop进行,可以用一维随机走步模型描述。从退磁过程半对数曲线的斜率可以求得平均flip-flop时间。自旋扩散系数可以由此估算。在一些典型的刚性有机固体和结晶高分子聚合物中,求得平均flip-flop的时间是700微秒左右。它比偶极相关时间大一个数量级。这意味着,自旋扩散时间常数与自旋—自旋弛豫时间常数是很不相同的,虽然这两个相应过程虽密切相关的。由质子线宽估计自旋扩散系数是不可靠的。  相似文献

It is commonly believed that strongly interacting one-dimensional Fermi systems with gapless excitations are effectively described by Luttinger liquid theory. However, when the temperature of the system is high compared to the spin energy, but small compared to the charge energy, the system becomes "spin incoherent." We present numerical evidence showing that the one-dimensional "t-J-Kondo" lattice, consisting of a t-J chain interacting with localized spins, displays all the characteristic signatures of spin-incoherent physics, but in the ground state. We argue that similar physics may be present in a wide range of strongly interacting systems.  相似文献

The theory of spin diffusion was extended to the case of nuclear dipolar order in solids containing paramagnetic impurities and nuclei with spin I > 1/2 having nuclear quadrupole moment. We show that spin diffusion process of dipolar order takes place in solids containing paramagnetic impurities. At the start of relaxation process, the direct relaxation regime is realized with non-exponential time dependence. Then the relaxation regime will be changed to diffusion-limited one. Using obtained expressions for the spin lattice relaxation times for these two relaxation regimes, the diffusion coefficient of the dipolar order in nuclear quadrupole resonance can be estimated from experimental data.  相似文献

Abstract

Magnetic resonance (MR) response obtained in a strongly heterogeneous magnetic field with a linear gradient is analysed. It is shown that the employment of strong magnetic field gradients enables the MR spectroscopy to be accomplished in a system with selectively populated energy states (SSMRS). The method can be applied for measuring such physical quantities as the spin diffusion coefficient, D, spin-lattice, T1m and spin-spin, T2m, relaxation times and mobility, pm, of paramagnetic elements in individual Zeeman energy states.

We discuss the precision of 1D chemical-shift-based 1H spin diffusion NMR experiments as well as straightforward experimental protocols for reducing errors. The 1H spin diffusion NMR experiments described herein are useful for samples that contain components with significant spectral overlap in the 1H NMR spectrum and also for samples of small mass (<1 mg). We show that even in samples that display little spectral contrast, domain sizes can be determined to a relatively high degree of certainty if common experimental variability is accounted for and known. In particular, one should (1) measure flip angles to high precision (≈±1° flip angle), (2) establish a metric for phase transients to ensure their repeatability, (3) establish a reliable spectral deconvolution procedure to ascertain the deconvolved spectra of the neat components in the composite or blend spin diffusion spectrum, and (4) when possible, perform 1D chemical-shift-based 1H spin diffusion experiments with zero total integral to partially correct for errors and uncertainties if these requirements cannot fully be implemented. We show that minimizing the degree of phase transients is not a requirement for reliable domain size measurement, but their repeatability is essential, as is knowing their contribution to the spectral offset (i.e. the J1 coefficient). When performing experiments with zero total integral in the spin diffusion NMR spectrum with carefully measured flip angles and known phase transient effects, the largest contribution to error arises from an uncertainty in the component lineshapes which can be as high as 7%. This uncertainty can be reduced considerably if the component lineshapes deconvolved from the composite or blend spin diffusion spectra adequately match previously acquired pure component spectra.  相似文献

The spin dynamics of cold polarized gases are investigated using the Boltzmann equation. The dispersion relation for spin waves (transverse component of the magnetic moment) and the spin diffusion coefficient of the longitudinal component of the magnetic moment are calculated without using fitting parameters. In this article, single, and two-qubit central spin systems interacting with spin baths are considered and their dynamical properties are discussed. The cases of interacting and non-interacting spin baths are considered and the quantum speed limit (QSL) time of evolution is investigated. The impact of the size of the spin bath on the quantum speed limit for a single qubit central spin model is analyzed. The quantum correlations for (non-)interacting two central spin qubits are estimated and their dynamical behavior with that of QSL time under various conditions are compared. How QSL time could be availed to analyze the dynamics of quantum correlations is shown.  相似文献

A way of calculating the chemical diffusion coefficient for tunnel diffusion is discussed. It is shown that the famous “jump rate” formula may be used to describe the tunnel diffusion of interacting particles in the region of coverages and temperatures where phase transitions in the adsorbed overlayer are absent. The dependence of the tunnel diffusion coefficient on coverage is calculated for the square lattice taking into consideration the repulsive lateral interactions of nearest-neighbour particles.  相似文献

We manipulated the defect concentration in a (fluoranthene)2PF6 crystal by proton irradiation through a periodic grid, resulting in a striped defect pattern. Spatially resolved pulsed X-band ESR analysis was used to quantify the resulting local defect concentrations, spin diffusion coefficients, and electron spin concentrations. The temperature dependence of the data proves that spin diffusion coefficient and Peierls transition can be tailored in a controlled way via the defect concentrations.  相似文献
