In this review, we describe general ideas of the LDA+DMFT method which merges dynamical mean-field theory (DMFT) and density functional theory (in particular the local density approximation (LDA)). Nowadays, the LDA+DMFT computational scheme is the most powerful numerical tool for studying physical properties of real materials and chemical compounds. It incorporates the advantage of DMFT to treat the full range of local dynamical Coulomb correlations and the ability of band methods to describe material-specific band dispersion caused by the lattice periodicity. We briefly discuss underlying physical ideas of LDA+DMFT and its mathematical implementation. Then different algorithms applied to solution of the DMFT impurity problem are briefly described. We then give examples of successful applications of the LDA+DMFT method to study spectral and magnetic properties of recently synthesized compounds like pnictide superconductors as well as classic charge-transfer systems NiO and MnO.  相似文献

In the context of the dynamical mean-field theory (DMFT) of the Hubbard model, we study the behavior of the compressibility near the density driven Mott transition at finite temperatures. We demonstrate this divergence using DMFT and quantum Monte Carlo simulations in the one-band and the two-band Hubbard model. We supplement this result with considerations based on the Landau theory framework, and discuss the relevance of our results to the alpha-gamma end point in cerium.  相似文献

We study the quantum phase transition in f-electron systems as a quantum Lifshitz transition driven by selective-Mott localization in a realistic extended Anderson lattice model. Using dynamical mean-field theory (DMFT), we find that a quantum critical phase with anomalous ω/T scaling separates a heavy Landau-Fermi liquid from ordered phase(s). This non-Fermi liquid state arises from a lattice orthogonality catastrophe originating from orbital-selective Mott localization. Fermi surface reconstruction occurs via the interplay between and penetration of the Green function zeros to the poles, leading to violation of Luttinger's theorem in the strange metal. We show how this naturally leads to scale-invariant responses in transport. Thus, our work represents a specific DMFT realization of the hidden-FL and FL* theories, and holds promise for the study of 'strange' metal phases in quantum matter.  相似文献

The electronic properties of paramagnetic V2O3 are investigated by the computational scheme LDA+DMFT(QMC). This approach merges the local density approximation (LDA) with dynamical mean-field theory (DMFT) and uses quantum Monte Carlo simulations (QMC) to solve the effective Anderson impurity model of DMFT. Starting with the crystal structure of metallic V2O3 and insulating (V0.962Cr0.038)2O3 we find a Mott-Hubbard transition at a Coulomb interaction U approximately 5 eV. The calculated spectrum is in very good agreement with experiment. Furthermore, the orbital occupation and the spin state S = 1 determined by us agree with recent polarization dependent x-ray-absorption experiments.  相似文献

A combination of density functional theory and the dynamical mean-field theory (DMFT) is used to calculate the magnetic susceptibility, heat capacity, and the temperature dependence of the valence band photoemission spectra for delta-Pu. We predict that delta-Pu has a Pauli-like magnetic susceptibility near ambient temperature, as in experiment, indicating that electronic coherence causes the absence of local moments. Additionally, we show that volume expansion causes a crossover from incoherent to coherent electronic behavior at increasingly lower temperatures.

We propose a dynamical mean-field approach for calculating the electronic structure of strongly correlated materials from first principles. The scheme combines the GW method with dynamical mean-field theory, which enables one to treat strong interaction effects. It avoids the conceptual problems inherent to conventional "LDA+DMFT," such as Hubbard interaction parameters and double-counting terms. We apply a simplified version of the approach to the electronic structure of nickel and find encouraging results.  相似文献

We present a consistent way of treating a double counting problem unavoidably arising within the LDA + DMFT combined approach to realistic calculations of electronic structure of strongly correlated systems. The main obstacle here is the absence of systematic (e.g., diagrammatic) way to express LDA (local density approximation) contribution to exchange correlation energy appearing in the density functional theory. It is not clear then, which part of interaction entering DMFT (dynamical mean-field theory) is already taken into account through LDA calculations. Because of that, up to now there is no accepted unique expression for the double counting correction in LDA + DMFT. To avoid this problem we propose here the consistent LDA’ + DMFT approach, where LDA exchange correlation contribution is explicitly excluded for correlated states (bands) during self-consistent band structure calculations. What is left out of Coulomb interaction for those strongly correlated states (bands) is its non-local part, which is not included in DMFT, and the local Hartreelike contribution. Then the double counting correction is uniquely reduced to the local Hartree contribution. Correlations for strongly correlated states are then directly accounted for via the standard DMFT. We further test the consistent LDA’ + DMFT scheme and compare it with conventional LDA + DMFT calculating the electronic structure of NiO. Opposite to the conventional LDA + DMFT our consistent LDA’ + DMFT approach unambiguously produces the insulating band structure in agreement with experiments.  相似文献

We present the total energy calculation of α-, γ-, and ε-Ce phases in the frame of GGA, GGA+U, and DFT+DMFT methods. It has been shown that taken into account of Coulomb correlations in the frame of dynamical mean-field theory allows reproducing the phase diagram of Ce in correct way. Equilibrium volume calculated within the DFT+DMFT method for face-centered cubic (fcc) structure agrees with experimental Ce-γ cell volume. With temperature decrease energy minimum shifts toward α cell volume. Moreover, the DFT+DMFT total energy for body-centered tetragonal (bct) structure becomes smaller than for fcc one with increase in pressure in agreement with experimental phase diagram. Importance of accounting of Coulomb correlation in the frame of DMFT is discussed.  相似文献

We report high-resolution high-energy photoemission spectra together with parameter-free LDA + DMFT (local density approximation + dynamical mean-field theory) results for Sr1-xCaxVO3, a prototype 3d(1) system. In contrast to earlier investigations the bulk spectra are found to be insensitive to x. The good agreement between experiment and theory confirms the bulk sensitivity of the high-energy photoemission spectra.  相似文献

Motivated by recent experimental results, we study the effect of size reduction on half-doped manganite, La(0.5)Ca(0.5)MnO(3), using the combination of density-functional theory (DFT) and dynamical mean-field theory (DMFT). We find that upon size reduction the charge-ordered antiferromagnetic phase, observed in bulk, is destabilized, giving rise to the stability of a ferromagnetic metallic state. Our theoretical results, carried out on a defect-free nanocluster in isolation, establish the structural changes that follow upon size reduction to be responsible for this. Our study further points out the effect of size reduction to be distinctively different from application of hydrostatic pressure. Interestingly, our DFT+DMFT study additionally reports the correlation-driven stability of the charge-orbitally ordered state in bulk La(0.5) Ca(0.5) MnO(3), even in the absence of long-range magnetic order.  相似文献

We investigate the dynamical robustness property of the damaged network of active and inactive oscillators under the influence of the mean-field diffusion. The tolerance of dynamical activity of the entire coupled network has realized through the aging transition in the coupled dynamical network. We analytically derived the critical threshold of mean-field density and coupling values for the appearance of the aging transition in the damaged network. By using the critical values as a quantifiable measure of dynamical robustness of the damaged network, we showed that higher mean-field value is favorable to increase the dynamical robustness of the entire network. We also perform the numerical experiment on the network of Stuart-Landau oscillators and the obtained numerical results have an excellent agreement with the analytical findings. Finally, we extend our investigation into the coupled time-delayed network and discussed the affirmative influence of the mean-field parameter on the dynamical robustness of the network.  相似文献

We review recent results on the properties of materials with correlated electrons obtained within the LDA+DMFT approach, a combination of a conventional band structure approach based on the local density approximation (LDA) and the dynamical mean-field theory (DMFT). The application to four outstanding problems in this field is discussed: (i) we compute the full valence band structure of the charge-transfer insulator NiO by explicitly including the p-d hybridization, (ii) we explain the origin for the simultaneously occuring metal-insulator transition and collapse of the magnetic moment in MnO and Fe2O3, (iii) we describe a novel GGA+DMFT scheme in terms of plane-wave pseudopotentials which allows us to compute the orbital order and cooperative Jahn-Teller distortion in KCuF3 and LaMnO3, and (iv) we provide a general explanation for the appearance of kinks in the effective dispersion of correlated electrons in systems with a pronounced three-peak spectral function without having to resort to the coupling of electrons to bosonic excitations. These results provide a considerable progress in the fully microscopic investigations of correlated electron materials.  相似文献

Quasi-thermal-equilibrium states of electron-hole (e-h) systems in photoexcited insulators are studied from a theoretical viewpoint, stressing the exciton Bose-Einstein condensation (BEC), the e-h BCS-type pair-condensed state, and the exciton Mott transition between an insulating exciton/biexciton gas phase and a metallic e-h plasma phase. We determine the quasi-equilibrium phase diagram of the e-h system at zero and finite temperatures with applying the dynamical mean-field theory (DMFT) to the e-h Hubbard model with both repulsive and attractive on-site interactions. Effects of inter-site interactions on the exciton Mott transition are also clarified with applying the extended DMFT to the extended e-h Hubbard model.  相似文献

Using a combination of exact enumeration and the dynamical mean-field theory (DMFT) we study the drastic change of the spectral properties, obtained in the half-filled two-dimensional Hubbard model at a transition from an antiferromagnetic to a paramagnetic Mott insulator, and compare it with the results obtained using the quantum Monte Carlo method. The coherent hole (electron) quasiparticle spin-polaron subbands are gradually smeared out when the AF order disappears, either for increasing Coulomb repulsion U at fixed temperature T, or for increasing T at fixed U. Within the DMFT we present numerical evidence (a continuous disappearence of the order parameter) suggesting that the above magnetic transition is second order both in two and in three dimensions.Received: 20 November 2004, Published online: 9 April 2004PACS: 71.30. + h Metal-insulator transitions and other electronic transitions - 71.10.Fd Lattice fermion models (Hubbard model, etc.) - 79.60.-i Photoemission and photoelectron spectraThis work is dedicated to Professor Ole Krogh Andersen on the occasion of his 60th birthday.  相似文献

Recent progress in the theory of magnetism and electron correlations is reviewed to clarify the theories developed in the last decade and their mutual relations. A historical development of the theory of magnetism is outlined, and the dynamical coherent potential approximation (CPA) which completely takes account of the dynamical spin and charge fluctuations within the single-site approximation is introduced. Both the dynamical effects on various magnetic properties and the many-body band structure are shown to be explained on the same footing. It is shown that the dynamical CPA is equivalent to the other single-site theories of strongly correlated electrons: the many-body CPA, the dynamical mean-field theory (DMFT), and the projection operator method CPA (PM-CPA). These theories are elucidated with use of a common concept of effective medium or coherent potential. The effects of orbital degeneracy and the realistic calculation scheme are discussed with an emphasis on Hund’s rule coupling. Non-local theories of magnetism and electron correlations which go beyond the single-site approximation are presented. They include the molecular dynamics approach to the magnetic short range order, the dynamical cluster methods as a direct extension of the DMFT, and the self-consistent projection operator approach as an extension of the PM-CPA with use of the incremental cluster expansion. The current problems of their approaches and their future perspective are discussed.  相似文献

Green’s function in the paramagnetic phase of the Hubbard model with strong electron correlations is calculated by the many-electron operators method. The density of states pattern is considered in the case of half-filling (metal-insulator transition) and in the doped case. The effect of the low-temperature Kondo scattering on the energy spectrum is analyzed, and the results are compared with the results of the dynamical mean-field theory (DMFT).  相似文献

We have performed in-plane transport measurements on the two-dimensional organic salt kappa-(BEDT-TTF)(2)Cu[N(CN)(2)]Cl. A variable (gas) pressure technique allows for a detailed study of the changes in conductivity through the insulator-to-metal transition. We identify four different transport regimes as a function of pressure and temperature (corresponding to insulating, semiconducting, "bad metal," and strongly correlated Fermi-liquid behaviors). Marked hysteresis is found in the transition region, which displays complex physics that we attribute to strong spatial inhomogeneities. Away from the critical region, good agreement is found with a dynamical mean-field calculation of transport properties using the numerical renormalization group technique.  相似文献

Ab initio analyses of A(2)IrO(4) (A=Sr,Ba) are presented. Effective Hubbard-type models for Ir 5d t(2g) manifolds downfolded from the global band structure are solved based on the dynamical mean-field theory. The results for A=Sr and Ba correctly reproduce paramagnetic metals undergoing continuous transitions to insulators below the Néel temperature T(N). These compounds are classified not into Mott insulators but into Slater insulators. However, the insulating gap opens by a synergy of the Néel order and significant band renormalization, which is also manifested by a 2D bad metallic behavior in the paramagnetic phase near the quantum criticality.  相似文献
