Abstract

A novel system of non-symmetric dimers containing 4-n-alkyloxy-substituted cinnamic acid and cyanobiphenyl groups has been studied. Two series were prepared: in one the flexible spacer was varied in length while the spacer was fixed. The spacer length has a profound influence on the nematic-isotropic transition temperature of these materials and a large odd-even effect is observed for the series. The terminal chain also plays a significant role in determining the liquid crystal phase behaviour: a smectic A phase is exhibited for the ethyl and propyl homologues, in addition to a nematic phase; this smectic phase vanishes for intermediate chain lengths but then reappears for the nonyl and decyl members of the series. X-ray diffraction has revealed the structure of the smectic A phase for the ethyl homologue to be intercalated, whereas that for the decyl compound is interdigitated. The existence of the intercalated smectic A phase has previously been explained in terms of a charge-transfer interaction between unlike mesogenic groups. However, for the non-symmetric liquid crystal dimers described here this specific interaction appears unlikely and we discuss, therefore, other possible mechanisms for the formation of intercalated smectic phases.  相似文献

Liquid crystalline α-[bis(2-hydroxyethyl)amino]- ω -(4′-methoxybiphenyl-4-oxy)alkane hydrochlorides with different spacer lengths (6, 8, 10 methylene units) have been synthesized and characterized by NMR, DSC, polarizing optical microscopy and X-ray diffraction. The melting temperatures of the hydrochlorides decrease with increasing number of methylene units in the spacer. Highly ordered and very viscous liquid crystalline (LC1) smectic phases are formed on melting. Upon further heating these phases are transformed into a less viscous smectic C phase (LC2). The temperature of the LC1-LC2 transition decreases and the temperature of the LC2 to isotropic phase transition (LC2-I transition) increases with increasing number of methylene units in the spacer.  相似文献

Enantiopure 3-(ω-hydroxyalkyl)-2-pyrrolidinones 7 and 9 were synthesised by Michael-addition of nitromethane to chiral α-alkylidenelactones 1 followed by reduction of the resulting 3-(β-nitroalkyl)-lactones and ring transformation of the intermediate 3-(β-aminoalkyl)-lactones. Four homoleptic copper(II) complexes, [Cu(Meophtpy)2](ClO4)2 (Meophtpy = 4′-(4-methoxylphenyl)- 2,2′:6′,2″-terpyridine) (I), [Cu(Meophtpy)2](ClO4)2 · 2H2O (II), [Cu2(m-Clphtpy)4](ClO4)4 (m-ClPhtpy = 4′-(3-chlorophenyl)-2,2′:6′,2″-terpyridine) (III), and [Cu2(m-ClPhtpy)4](ClO4)4 (IV) have been synthesized by hydrothermal methods and characterized by IR, elemental analysis and single crystal X-ray diffraction (CIF files CCDC nos. 963375 (I), 885457 (II), 963377 (III), and 963376 (IV)). Complex II is a polymorph of I and complex IV is a polymorph of III. All these complexes are obtained with 95% ethanol solution or 50% ethanol solution and the solvent control on the crystallization are obviously found. In all complexes, the face-to-face interactions between pyridyl rings or phenyl rings facilitate the construction of 3D network in the crystal in addition to hydrogen bonds. The fluorescence properties of these complexes have been investigated.  相似文献

The title compound, C15H22N3O9P·2H2O, Mr=455.36, crystallizes in orthorhombic, space group P212121, with a =9.193(2), b =14.681(3), c =15.201(3)A, V =2501(1)A3, Z =4, Dx=1.474g/cm3, λ(MoKα)=0.71073A, μ=0.1894mm-1, T=299±1K, F(000)=960, R=0.061 and Rw=0.068 for 1899 observed reflections with I≥3σ(I). The analysis results indicate that the title compound is of lyxo-configuration and the configuration at C4″ is S. In the crystal state the molecule has anti conformation about glycosidic bond with the torsion angle-151.7°, the sugar ring is puckered with C3′-endo-C2′-exo, and the conformation of the C4′-C5′ bond is-sc.  相似文献

Efficient multigram two-step syntheses of 4-(2-chloroethoxy)phenol and 4-(3-chloropropoxy)phenol in >70% yields starting from 4-hydroxybenzaldehyde and reagents with general formula Cl(CH2) n X (X = Cl, n = 2; X = OTs, n = 3) are proposed. 4-(2-Chloroethoxy)phenol can also be conveniently prepared from 4-methoxyphenol and 1,2-dichloroethane. The compounds thus obtained can be used in carbohydrate chemistry to synthesize glycosides bearing "universal" 4-(ω-chloroalkoxy)phenyl aglycons.  相似文献

A series of novel α,ω-bis(4-methylphenoxy) alkane functionalized cyclen ligands were synthesized by the nucleophilic substitution reaction of 1,4,7-tris(tert-butyloxycarbonyl)-1,4,7,10-tetraazacyclododecane and α,ω-bis(4-bromomethylphenoxy) alkanes. The corresponding dimeric Zn(II)–cyclen complexes were obtained by reaction of these ligands with Zn(ClO4)2·6H2O. The synthesis of 4-butyl-4′-[(4-butyl-2,6-difluorophenyl)ethynyl]biphenyl and its higher fluorinated analogues is presented and discussed. Correlations between molecular structure and mesomorphic properties for presented compounds as well as other known from the literature analogues have been drawn. The dielectric study of four synthesised compounds and their mixtures are presented and discussed. Trifluoro-substituted analogues are trade off between low dielectric anisotropy of difluorinated compounds and lower clearing points of tetrafluorinated ones.  相似文献

Poly(3??,4??-Ethylenedioxy-2,2??:5??,2??-terthiophene) was synthesized by chemical oxidative polymerization of 3??,4??-Ethylenedioxy-2,2??:5??,2??-terthiophene using FeCl3 as an oxidant. The resulting polymer was characterized by FTIR and 1H NMR. p-doping behaviors of substituted polyterthiophene with different organic sulfonic acids (methanesulfonic acid, p-toluene sulfonic acid, and ??-naphthalene sulfonic acid) in different solvents (CH3CN, CHCl3, THF and DMF) were studied by UV-VIS spectroscopy. The results from structural characterizations showed that the ??,????-bonding predominates in polyterthiophene. The spectroscopic changes in UV-VIS showed that ??-naphthalene sulfonic acid was an efficient doping acid for polymer while varying the solvents. Meanwhile, CH3CN showed a high efficiency for p-doping of polyterthiophene while varying the doping acids.  相似文献

Abstract

The molecular and crystal structure of N-(4-n-butyloxybenzylidene)-4′-ethylaniline (4O.2) and the homologue N-(4-n-heptyloxybenzylidene)-4′-hexylaniline (7O.6) have been solved (at room temperature) by direct methods. The crystals of both compounds belong to the triclinic system with space group P1 with two molecules per unit cell. 4O.2: a = 5·531(2), b = 7·592(3), c = 19·746(7) Å, α = 86·66(2), β = 88·15(2), γ = 90·29(2)° 7O.6: a = 5·420(2), b = 8·307(3), c = 28·057(7) Å, α = 91·69(2), β = 89·76(2), γ = 108·02(2)°. The structures were refined by full-matrix least-squares calculations to R = 0·036 for 2297 observed reflections for 4O.2 and to R = 0·037 for 2150 reflections for 7O.6. The conformations in the asymmetric units of the two compounds differ considerably: The planes of the two phenyl rings of 4O.2, forming the mesogenic core of the molecule, are twisted at 61·2° to each other and the butoxy group contains a gauche conformation. In contrast the heptoxy chain of 7O.6 forms an all trans-conformation which lies almost in one plane with the two coplanar phenyl rings. The hexyl group also exists in an extended form, in a plane which is rotated against the plane of the mesogenic unit. The packing in the crystalline state of the two homologues exhibits a layered structure along c*; in 4O.2 these layers are separated, but in 7O.6 they are interdigitated. The compensation of the dipole moments of the C?O?C and C?N?C bonds occurs similarly in both structures: molecular orientations parallel to the a, c-plane in which the long axes of the molecules points in the same direction are packed in antiparallel fashion along b*.  相似文献

This study shows that stereochemical factors largely determine the extent to which 6-(4′-t-butylphenylamino)-naphthalene-2-sulphonate, BNS and its dimer, (BNS)2, are complexed by β-cyclodextrin, βCD, and a range of linked βCD dimers. Fluorescence and 1H NMR studies, respectively, show that BNS and (BNS)2 form host–guest complexes with βCD of the stoichiometry βCD.BNS (10? 4 K 1 = 4.67 dm3 mol? 1) and βCD.BNS2 2 ?  (10? 2 K 2′ = 2.31 dm3 mol? 1), where the complexation constant K 1 = [βCD.BNS]/([βCD][BNS]) and K 2′ = [βCD. (BNS)2]/([βCD.BNS][BNS]) in aqueous phosphate buffer at pH 7.0, I = 0.10 mol dm3 at 298.2 K. (The dimerisation of BNS is characterised by 10? 2 K d = 2.65 dm3 mol? 1.) For N,N-bis((2AS,3AS)-3A-deoxy-3A-β-cyclodextrin)succinamide, 33βCD2su, N-((2AS,3AS)-3A-deoxy-3A-β-cyclodextrin)-N′-(6A-deoxy-6A-β-cyclodextrin)urea, 36βCD2su, N,N-bis(6A-deoxy-6A-β-cyclodextrin)succinamide, 66βCD2su, N-((2AS,3AS)-3A-deoxy-3A-β-cyclodextrin)-N′-(6A-deoxy-6A-β-cyclodextrin)urea, 36βCD2ur, and N,N-bis(6A-deoxy-6A-β-cyclodextrin)urea, 66βCD2ur, the analogous 10? 4 K 1 = 11.0, 101, 330, 29.6 and 435 dm3 mol? 1 and 10? 2 K 2′ = 2.56, 2.31, 2.59, 1.82 and 1.72 dm3 mol? 1, respectively. A similar variation occurs in K 1 derived by UV–vis methods. The factors causing the variations in K 1 and K 2 are discussed in conjunction with 1H ROESY NMR and molecular modelling studies.  相似文献

Abstract

Liquid-crystalline side chain polymers were obtained from the ring-opening reaction of epoxy resin with mesogenic amines, 4-(ω-aminoalkyloxy)-4′-cyanobiphenyl. The amines with the alkyl group ranging from five to nine methylene units were synthesized, and were found to exhibit an enantiotropic nematic phase. Polymerization of these amines with ethylene glycol diglycidyl ether at 100°C yielded the polymers of low glass transition and melting temperatures. The mesomorphic properties of the amines and the resulting epoxy polymers are reported.  相似文献

The title compound 3, an intermediate in the synthesis of fluorocarbapenems, is obtained with high stereocontrol by the condensation of (R)-(+)-ethyl 4,4,4-trifluoro-3-hydroxybutanoate with N-trimethylsilyl cinnamylidenimine. Three Mn(II), Co(II), and Cu(II) new transition metal complexes of the fluorescence dye: 2-(2′-hydroxy-5′-phenyl)-5-aminobenzotriazole/PBT derived from o-aminophenol and m-phenylenediamine have been synthesized. The structural interpretations were confirmed from elemental analyses, magnetic susceptibility and molar conductivity, as well as from mass, IR, UV–Vis spectral studies. From the analytical, spectroscopic, and thermal data, the stoichiometry of the mentioned complexes was found to be 1:2 (metal:ligand). The molar conductance data revealed that all the metal chelates are non-electrolytes and the chloride ions exist inside the coordination sphere. The thermal stabilities of these complexes were studied by thermogravimetric (TG/DTG) and the decomposition steps of these three complexes are investigated. The kinetic parameters such as the energy of activation (E*), pre-exponential factor (A), activation entropy (ΔS*), activation enthalpy (ΔH*), and free energy of activation (ΔG*) have been reported. Photostability of phenyl benzotriazole as fluorescence dye and their metal complexes doped in polymethyl methacrylate/PMMA were exposed to UV–Vis radiation and the change in the absorption spectra was achieved at different times during irradiation period.  相似文献
