The degree of colour shift depending on viewing direction in the in‐plane switching (IPS) mode has been investigated. The IPS cell with pure twist deformation exhibits a stronger colour shift than that of the IPS cell with tilt as well as twist deformation, although the former has better luminance uniformity in the bright state than the latter. Furthermore, the IPS cell with multi‐directional LC orientation, with tilt as well as twist deformation, shows the least colour shift.  相似文献

The rubbing angle effect on transmissive in‐plane switching liquid crystal displays is analysed by the Jones matrix method. Simulation results show that the optimum rubbing angle is around 30°–40°; the cell gap/birefringence product (dΔn) is about 0.33 µm. Increasing the rubbing angle can shorten the rise time and enlarge the grey scale voltage intervals. The optical characteristics are similar in two cells with different rubbing angles. These effects are particularly attractive for liquid crystal TV applications.  相似文献

The preparation is reported of particles of photopolymerisable monomer/chiral dopant composites with a crystalline (Cr)‐chiral nematic (N*) phase transition. By mixing particles with different pitches of the N* phase in the Cr phase and crosslinking the liquid crystal (LC) monomer molecules by photopolymerisation in the planarly oriented N* phase, an N*‐LC composite film with a non‐uniform pitch distribution was obtained. Experimental results show that the bandwidth of the reflection spectrum and the location of reflection band of the composite films can be controlled accurately by controlling the pitch lengths of the N* phase of the particles. Effects of polymerisation temperature and UV intensity on the non‐uniform pitch distribution of N*‐LC composite films were investigated.  相似文献

High birefringence and low viscosity isothiocyanate liquid crystal single compounds, and eutectic mixtures based solely on unsaturated rigid core structures, are reported. Extraordinarily high values of figure‐of‐merit were observed at room temperature for the formulated nematic mixtures. Potential applications of such mixtures for laser beam steering at λ = 1.55 µm using optical phased arrays are emphasized.  相似文献

We present an experimental study of thin liquid crystal (LC) layers under the action of a harmonically varied pressure gradient. Optical measurements were performed to register the linear oscillations of a nematic director related to homeotropic and homeoplanar (hybrid) initial states. In the latter case one of the inner surfaces of the rectangular channels was treated by ultraviolet light to provide a relatively weak planar anchoring. The optical response of hybrid and homeotropic LC cells under an oscillating pressure gradient was investigated in relation to on the amplitude and frequency of the pressure gradient. A hydrodynamic model is developed taking into account the LC polar anchoring strength and the surface viscosity responsible for a fast LC surface dynamics. Our estimates show that the thickness of the boundary layer corresponding to the surface viscosity does not exceed 10?6 m, and further experiments are needed with thinner LC cells and higher frequency oscillations to achieve a more precise value. An oscillating Poiseuille flow in the hybrid cell was found to be useful for characterizing elastic and viscous properties of a weakly anchoring LC surface layer in a fast surface dynamic process.  相似文献

Patterned Self‐Assembled Monolayers (SAMs) promoting both homeotropic and planar degenerate alignment of nCBs in their smectic‐A phase were created using microcontact printing of functionalized organothiols on gold films. By patterning the surface with homeotropic and planar aligning SAMs, the location and formation of the focal conic domains (FCDs) can be controlled. Polarizing microscopy was used to study the formation of FCDs in circle, stripe and checkerboard pattern geometries. Fluorescent confocal microscopy (FCM) was used for the first time to measure the eccentricity of FCDs that form along a stripe pattern.  相似文献

In the chiral smectic C phase of liquid crystals with the phase transition N*–SmC*, texture development depending on the sample thickness is reported. In very thin samples, domains of rectangular‐like shape are observed. As two possible tilts of smectic layers are possible for one anchoring direction, smectic layers inside a domain, called twin‐like domains, are tilted with respect to layers in outer regions, similarly to crystalline planes in solid crystalline twins. An elastic model of such a twin domain is proposed and its energy determined.  相似文献

Abstract

This study reported that the hapten of 2,4,6‐trichlorophenol (2,4,6‐TCP) was synthesized by using 2,4,6‐TCP reacted with chloroactic acid in alkaline solution. The hapten was conjugated to bovine serum albumin (BSA) with the modified active ester method to form artificial immune antigen. The anti‐TCP polyclonal antibodies were obtained by using the artificial immuneantigen (TCP‐BSA) to immunize the rabbits. Using the purified antiserum of highest specificity, an antibody‐coated fluoroimmunoassay was developed that shows an IC50 of 4.8 µg/L with a limit of detection of 0.25 µg/L. The antibody showed negligible cross‐reactivity with other phenols, which makes their assays suitable for the selective detection of 2,4,6‐TCP. It shows a good accuracy and suitability to analyze, 2,4,6‐TCP in environmental water.  相似文献

A method termed dispersive liquid–liquid microextraction (DLLME) coupled with high-performance liquid chromatography-variable wavelength detection (HPLC-VWD) was developed. DLLME-HPLC-VWD is a method for determination of bisphenol A (BPA) in water samples. In this microextraction method, several parameters such as extraction solvent volume, sample volume, disperser solvent, ionic strength, pH, and disperser volume were optimised with the aid of interactive orthogonal array and a mixed level experiment design. First, an orthogonal array design was used to screen the significant variables for the optimisation. Second, the significant factors were optimised by using a mixed level experiment. Under the optimised extraction conditions (extraction solvent: ionic liquid [C6MIM][PF6], 60 µL; dispersive solvent: methanol, 0.4 mL; and pH = 4.0), the performance of the established method was evaluated. The response linearity of the method was observed in a range of 0.002–1.0 mg L?1 (three orders of magnitude) with correlation coefficient (R 2) of 0.9999. The repeatability of this method was 4.2–5.3% for three different BPA levels and the enrichment factors were above 180. The extraction recovery was about 50% for the three different concentrations with 3.4–6.4% of RSD. Limit of detection of the method was 0.40 µg L?1 at a signal-to-noise ratio of 3. In addition, the relative recovery of sample of Songhua River, tap water and barrel-drain water at different spiked concentration levels was ranged 95.8–103.0%, 92.6–98.6% and 87.2–95.3%, respectively. Compared with other extraction technologies, there have been the following advantages of quick, easy operation, and time-saving for the present method.  相似文献

Liquid‐crystalline (LC) monomers, which were functionalized with a cinnamoyl group on their extremity, were synthesized and irradiated with UV light in their LC phases. In the presence of a triplet sensitizer, most LC monomers were converted into the corresponding dimers, which were produced by the cycloaddition reaction of the cinnamoyl group. The photodimerization reaction could proceed while the LC phases were maintained, because the dimers showed LC phases whose temperature ranges were wider than those of the corresponding monomers. A 1H NMR study of the LC dimers indicated that the cyclobutane unit dominantly had an anti‐head‐to‐head configuration, that is, δ‐truxinate. As the LC monomers, which had a phenyl biphenyl‐4‐carboxylate moiety as a mesogen, showed smectic A phases and the corresponding dimers also exhibited smectic A phases, we estimated the smectic layer distances by X‐ray diffraction analysis and found that the dimers adopted the structure in which the two mesogens aligned laterally and existed in the same smectic layer in the LC phases.  相似文献

A sensitive high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) method was developed to study the influence of ferulic acid on the formation of volatile fatty acids and lactic acid in milk and soybean milk samples. Volatile fatty acids were extracted by liquid–liquid micro-extraction using chloroform and acetonitrile as the extraction and disperser solvents, respectively. The analytes were derivatized with 2-(5-benzoacridine)ethyl-p-toluenesulfonate that showed excellent fluorescence property and made the sensitive HPLC analysis of short-chain fatty acids become possible. The optimized HPLC sensitivity was in the range of 1.1–1.9?µg?L?1. Ferulic acid was added in milk and soybean milk samples to study its preservative effect. The results indicated that ferulic acid with concentration of 0.2% (m/v) could effectively reduce the formation of short-chain fatty acids.  相似文献

Interactions between three triblock copolymers of poly (ethylene oxide)‐poly (propylene oxide)‐poly (ethylene oxide), EOmPOnEOm, and the ionic surfactant sodium dodecyl trioxyethylenated sulfonate, C12E3S, in aqueous solutions were investigated with titration microcalorimetry at 293.15 K. Values of enthalpies, entropies, and free energies of interaction have been derived. The thermodynamic data indicate that interactions between EOmPOnEOm and C12E3S decrease with the increase of m/n.  相似文献

The deformation of oriented smectic liquid crystal elastomer films with smectic layers parallel to the film surface was studied using optical reflectometry and small angle X‐ray diffraction. Reflectometry data show that in the chosen material, in‐plane strain causes a change in the optical thickness of the free‐standing films. Small angle X‐ray scattering was used to explore the molecular origin of this effect. The X‐ray scattering data confirm that the change in optical thickness originates from the compression of the individual smectic layers. The measured Poisson ratio in the smectic A and C* phases is close to ½, in contrast to the smectic elastomers investigated earlier by Nishikawa et. al. [Macromol. Chem. Phys. 200, 312 (1999)]. In this unique material, the molecular lattice dimensions can be reversibly controlled by macroscopic stretching of the oriented samples.  相似文献

The electrical oscillations across a liquid membrane in water/oil/water system was studied with octanol as oil phase by introducing two opposite charged surfactants in oil and aqueous phase, respectively. The sustained and rhythmic oscillation was observed. To a certain extent, the features of the oscillation (e.g. induction time, frequency, life time and orientation of the pulse pikes) strongly depend on the property of surfactant, dissolved in octanol. The mechanism may be explained by the formation and destruction of dual-ion surfactant membrane accompanying with emulsification at the interface and considering the coupling effect of diffusion and associated reaction in the vicinity of the interface.  相似文献

The synthesis is reported of a series of apolar nematic liquid crystals incorporating an alkoxyalkoxy chain attached in a terminal position to the molecular core. The dependence of the mesomorphism and phase transition temperatures on the nature of the terminal chain with one, two or three oxygen atoms was studied. Some compounds with a completely alicyclic molecular core and a terminal 2‐methoxyethoxy chain exhibit a nematic phase with a low melting point, birefringence and viscosity and a relatively high clearing point in the absence of smectic phases. They do not to absorb light in the near UV and may be useful as components of UV‐stable nematic mixtures for use in photoluminescent liquid crystal displays. The presence of the methoxyethoxy chain leads to a relatively large dipole moment perpendicular to the molecular long axis.  相似文献

The synthesis is reported of a series of polar nematic liquid crystals incorporating an alkoxyalkoxy chain attached in a terminal position to a molecular core consisting of two aromatic rings. The dependence of the mesomorphism and phase transition temperatures on the nature of this terminal chain was studied. The shape anisotropy of the core is increased by the presence of an additional 1,4‐disubstituted phenyl unit in a number of p‐terphenyls. A number of highly polar esters with a terminal methoxyethoxy chain have been prepared as dopants to lower the threshold voltage of LCDs. The presence of the methoxyethoxy chain leads to an increase in the molecular dipole moment, the dielectric anisotropy and the dielectric constant perpendicular to the molecular long axis. Several compounds with a four‐unit diether central linkage were also prepared.  相似文献

Four homologous series of non‐symmetric linear liquid crystalline trimers, the 4‐[(4‐{n‐[4‐(4‐methoxy‐phenylazo)phenoxy]alkyloxy}benzylidene)amino]benzoic acid 6‐[4‐(4‐methoxyphenylazo)phenoxy]hexyl esters, 4‐[(4‐{n‐[4‐(4‐cyanophenylazo)phenoxy]alkyloxy}benzylidene)amino]benzoic acid 6‐[4‐(4‐methoxyphenylazo)phenoxy]hexyl esters, 4‐[(4‐{n‐[4‐(4‐methoxyphenylazo)phenoxy]alkyloxy}benzylidene)amino]benzoic acid 6‐[4‐(4‐cyanophenylazo)phenoxy]hexyl esters and 4‐[(4‐{n‐[4‐(4‐cyanophenylazo)phenoxy]butoxy}benzylidene)amino]benzoic acid 6‐[4‐(4‐cyanophenylazo)phenoxy]hexyl esters, have been synthesized and characterized. In each series one spacer was held constant while the length of the second was varied from 3 to 12 methylene units. All these trimers were nematogenic and exhibited pronounced odd–even effects in both their clearing temperatures and associated entropies. Only two of the trimers exhibited a smectic phase, and specifically those containing two differing terminal mesogenic groups and an undecyl spacer. This strongly suggests the driving force for smectic phase formation is a combination of molecular shape and a specific interaction between unlike mesogenic units. The smectic phase has been assigned as a triply‐intercalated alternating smectic C phase, the first example of its kind.  相似文献

Null transmission ellipsometry and depolarized reflected light microscopy have been performed on freestanding films of two achiral meta‐substituted three‐ring compounds. These compounds exhibit two different tilted smectic phases, SmC1 and SmC2. Our studies confirmed previous results obtained from another achiral meta‐substituted three‐ring compound that the SmC1 and SmC2 phases are SmC and SmCA, respectively.  相似文献

The thermal annealing process was proposed to purify the pixel regions of a liquid crystal (LC) cell with polymer walls. This technique, based on thermal‐induced phase separation, successfully evicts the residual monomers from the LC volume and significantly improves electro‐optical properties of the polymer‐wall LC devices. The influence of the annealing process on the purity of LC‐rich domain and the electro‐optic properties of a LC cell was explored with a series of experiments. According to the experimental results, the annealing technique is extremely prospective for constructing flexible polymer‐wall LC display applications.  相似文献

The effect of twisted alignment on the phase modulation of a liquid crystal wave‐front corrector was investigated. First, the effect of twisted alignment is discussed in terms of the modulation principle of the liquid crystal molecule. Only partial incident light can be modulated because of the effect of the twisted alignment. Other unmodulated light will affect the correction accuracy and the resolution of the image. The blazed grating method is proposed to solve this problem. Adaptive correction was performed without the blazed grating method and the correction results are poor. A similar adaptive correction experiment was performed with the blazed grating method and a better correction result is obtained. The residual averaged wave‐front errors are PV = 0.101λ and RMS = 0.015λ and a resolvable image is obtained.  相似文献
