The polyphenol content of tea depends on the growing region, harvest date, the production process used, and the brewing parameters. In this study, research was undertaken that included an analysis of the influence of the brewing process parameters on the content of total polyphenols (Folin-Ciocalteu), epigallocatechin gallate (HPLC), and antioxidant activity (against DPPH radicals) of fresh tea shrub leaves grown from Taiwan and of teas obtained from them (oolong, green in bags, and green loose from the spring and autumn harvest). The antioxidant potential was determined in the methanol and aqueous extracts, as well as in infusions that were obtained by using water at 65 or 100 °C and infusing the tea for 5 or 10 min. The highest content of total polyphenols and epigallocatechin gallate was found in green tea extracts from the spring harvest. However, in the case of infusions, the highest content of these compounds was found in green tea in bags. Steaming at 100 °C for 10 min, turned out to be the most favourable condition for the extraction. Oolong tea, brewed at 100 °C for 5 min was characterised by the highest antioxidant activity against stable DPPH radicals.  相似文献

Radish plants were grown in the presence of three different herbicides that interfere with the formation of the normal range of cyclic carotenoids, leading to an accumulation of acyclic biosynthetic intermediates, mainly phytoene (SAN 6706 and amitrole) and zeta-carotene (3852). Plants were then irradiated by four different light programs in order to gain more insight into the first steps of carotenoid biosynthesis and their control by light and phytochrome. In all cases, herbicide-treated and control, carotenoid biosynthesis was greatly enhanced by red light consistent with an effect of phytochrome on the early steps of the pathway. However, similar enhancement was also obtained after treatment with far-red light. Indeed with SAN 6706-treated plants synthesis of phytoene was stimulated to a much greater extent by far-red light given alone, than by red light. The involvement of phytochrome in the regulation of carotenoid biosynthesis appears not to be as simple as previously supposed.  相似文献

Addition of selenium or application of ultraviolet A (UVA) radiation for crop production could be an effective way of producing phytochemical-rich food. This study was conducted to investigate the effects of selenium and UVA radiation, as well as their combination on growth and phytochemical contents in broccoli microgreens. There were three treatments: Se (100 μmol/L Na2SeO3), UVA (40 μmol/m2/s) and Se + UVA (with application of Se and UVA). The control (CK) was Se spraying-free and UVA radiation-free. Although treatment with Se or/and UVA inhibited plant growth of broccoli microgreens, results showed that phytochemical contents increased. Broccoli microgreens under the Se treatment had higher contents of total soluble sugars, total phenolic compounds, total flavonoids, ascorbic acid, Fe, and organic Se and had lower Zn content. The UVA treatment increased the contents of total chlorophylls, total soluble proteins, total phenolic compounds, and FRAP. However, the Se + UVA treatment displayed the most remarkable effect on the contents of total anthocyanins, glucoraphanin, total aliphatic glucosinolates, and total glucosinolates; here, significant interactions between Se and UVA were observed. This study provides valuable insights into the combinational selenium and UVA for improving the phytochemicals of microgreens grown in an artificial lighting plant factory.  相似文献

Different strategies have been developed to increase the concentration of bioactive compounds in tomatoes during post-harvest, with ultraviolet light (UV) and light emitting diodes (LEDs) being interesting tools. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of ultraviolet (UVA at 366 nm and UVC at 254 nm) pre-treatment (1 kJ/m2) and red–blue LED light (25.4 µmol/m2/s) on the concentration of carotenoids, (poly)phenols and hydrophilic/lipophilic antioxidant capacity during 7 days of refrigeration storage of green tomatoes (Solanum lycopersicum L.) cultivar “Raf”. In addition, special attention was paid to quality parameters (weight loss, colour, acidity, soluble solids and ripening index). Tomatoes exposed to LED light at 6 °C for 7 days increased up to three times the total carotenoids content (mainly β-carotene and E-lycopene) compared to tomatoes refrigerated in the dark, while UV treatments alone did not significantly affect the carotenoid content. Besides, exposure to LEDs increased the hydrophilic and lipophilic antioxidant capacity of tomatoes by 30%, without affecting phenolic contents. Thus, LED treatments alone during refrigerated storage fostered ripening and improved the nutritional value of tomatoes, without compromising quality parameters. Further studies must be carried out to evaluate the impact on sensory attributes and consumer acceptance.  相似文献

Light quality is essential in in vitro cultures for morphogenesis process. Light emitting diodes system (LED) allows adjustment as desired and the most appropriate light spectrum. The study analyzed the influence of different LED light quality on the balance of endogenous phytohormones and related compounds (PhRC) in in vitro multiplied axillary shoots of Gerbera jamesonii. Over a duration of 40 days, the shoots were exposed to 100% red light, 100% blue light, red and blue light at a 7:3 ratio with control fluorescent lamps. Every 10 days plant tissues were tested for their PhRC content with the use of an ultra-high performance liquid chromatography (UHPLC). Shoots’ morphometric features were analyzed after a multiplication cycle. We identified 35 PhRC including twelve cytokinins, seven auxins, nine gibberellins, and seven stress-related phytohormones. Compounds content varied from 0.00052 nmol/g to 168.15 nmol/g of dry weight (DW). The most abundant group were stress-related phytohormones (particularly benzoic and salicylic acids), and the least abundant were cytokinins (about 370 times smaller content). LED light did not disturb the endogenous phytohormone balance, and more effectively mitigated the stress experienced by in vitro grown plants than the fluorescent lamps. The stress was most effectively reduced under the red LED. Red and red:blue light lowered tissue auxin levels. Blue LED light lowered the shoot multiplication rate and their height, and induced the highest content of gibberellins at the last stage of the culture.  相似文献

Three different LED spectra (W: White light; WFR: W + far-red light; WB: W + blue light) with similar photosynthetic photon flux density (PPFD) were designed to explore the effects of supplementary far-red and blue lights on leaf color, biomass and phytochemicals of two cultivars of red-leaf lettuce (“Yanzhi” and “Red Butter”) in an artificial lighting plant factory. Lettuce plants under WB had redder leaf color and significantly higher contents of pigments, such as chlorophyll a, chlorophyll b, chlorophyll (a + b) and anthocyanins. The accumulation of health-promoting compounds, such as vitamin C, vitamin A, total phenolic compounds, total flavonoids and anthocyanins in the two lettuce cultivars were obviously enhanced by WB. Lettuce under WFR showed remarkable increase in fresh weight and dry weight; meanwhile, significant decreases of pigments, total phenolic compounds, total flavonoids and vitamin C were found. Thus, in the plant factory system, the application of WB can improve the coloration and quality of red leaf lettuce while WFR was encouraged for the purpose of elevating the yield of lettuce.  相似文献

Abstract— The effects of red, blue and green light pulses on total protein accumulation in the green alga Ulva rigida following transfer from a low to high nitrate medium in darkness were examined. Red light pulses prior to transfer to darkness increased protein accumulation by about 55%. Blue and green light pulses also stimulated protein accumulation, but to a lesser extent (40-30% respectively). Stimulation of protein accumulation by red, blue or green light was largely (red light) or partially (blue or green light) reversible by far-red. The role of phytochrome and a red/green photoreversible system in the control of protein synthesis is discussed.  相似文献

A plastid mRNA (5 × 105 mol wt) appears as a burst 3 h after white light greening of steady state dark grown plants of Spirodela oligorrhiza. In this species, chlorophyll synthesis begins after 12 h. The light requirement is different from the pulse of far-red reversible red light required to abolish the lag of chlorophyll synthesis in many species, including Spirodela. Continuous high energy far-red is not stimulatory. When the illumination is not continued throughout the time of incorporation, the stimulation is minimal. Low energy blue and red light are stimulatory, and green and far-red light are ineffectual. Blue light was > 5 times as effective as red light at many dose levels. Illumination with 3 × 1017 quanta/m2/s (50pEm/cm2/s) blue light at 476 nm gave about half maximum stimulation.  相似文献

The effects of copper addition, from various adsorbents, on the accumulation ability and glucosinolate content of cultivated rocket were studied. Different adsorbents (zeolite NaX, egg shells, substrate, fly ash) were treated with copper(II) solution with an adsorption efficiency of 98.36, 96.67, 51.82 and 39.13%, respectively. The lowest copper content and the highest total glucosinolate content (44.37 μg/g DW and 4269.31 µg/g DW, respectively) were detected in the rocket grown in the substrate with the addition of a substrate spiked with copper(II) ions. Rocket grown in the fly ash-substrate mixture showed an increase in copper content (84.98 μg/g DW) and the lowest total glucosinolate content (2545.71 µg/g DW). On the other hand, when using the egg shells-substrate mixture, the rocket copper content increased (113.34 μg/g DW) along with the total GSLs content (3780.03 µg/g DW), indicating the influence of an adsorbent type in addition to the copper uptake. The highest copper content of 498.56 μg/g DW was detected in the rocket watered with copper(II) solution with a notable decrease in the glucosinolate content, i.e., 2699.29 µg/g DW. According to these results rocket can be considered as a copper accumulator plant.  相似文献

Abstract— Plastic mulches are widely used to conserve water and control weeds with less applied herbicides in production of food crops. Both yield and quality are important and can be affected by reflected blue (B), red (R) and far-red (FR) light combinations received during growth and development. Photosynthate allocation among growing plant parts and flavor of edible roots were studied in turnip ( Brassica rapa L.) grown in trickle-irrigated field plots with blue, green and white mulches. The blue and green mulches reflected different amounts of B, but they both reflected FR/R ratios higher than the ratio in incoming sunlight. The white mulch reflected more photosyn-thetic light and a lower FR/R ratio than the blue or green mulches. Plants grown with blue and green mulches did not differ significantly in leaf length, root size and shoot/ root biomass ratio. Those grown with white had shorter leaves and larger roots. Taste testers found that plants grown with blue mulch developed roots with a sharp flavor, and roots from plants grown with green mulch had a mild flavor. Those grown with white had a less distinct flavor. Roots grown with blue mulch had the greatest concentrations of total glucosinolates (GSL) and ascorbic acid. Reducing sugar concentrations were higher in roots grown with green than in those grown with blue mulches. The comparison of chemical composition of roots from plants grown with blue versus green mulches is important because the main difference was the amount of reflected B, suggesting that B influenced an enzyme involved in the pathway from glucose to GSL. We conclude that the spectrum of light reflected from mulch on the soil surface can influence not only shoot/root biomass ratio but also flavor-related chemical composition of field-grown food crop plants.  相似文献

Broccoli microgreens have shown potential health benefits due to their high glucosinolate (GL) levels. Previously, we observed that postharvest UVB treatment did not have much effect on increasing GLs in broccoli microgreens. In this study, we investigated the influence of preharvest UVB irradiation on GL levels in broccoli microgreens. UHPLC-ESI/ITMS analysis showed that preharvest UVB treatments with UVB 0.09 and 0.27 Wh/m2 significantly increased the glucoraphanin (GLR), glucoerucin (GLE), and total aliphatic GL levels by 13.7 and 16.9%, respectively, in broccoli microgreens when measured on harvest day. The nutritional qualities of UVB-treated microgreens were stable during 21-day storage, with only small changes in their GL levels. Broccoli microgreens treated before harvest with UVB 0.27 Wh/m2 and 10 mM CaCl2 spray maintained their overall quality, and had the lowest tissue electrolyte leakage and off-odor values during the storage. Furthermore, preharvest UVB 0.27 Wh/m2 treatment significantly increased GL biosynthesis genes when evaluated before harvest, and reduced the expression level of myrosinase, a gene responsible for GL breakdown during postharvest storage. Overall, preharvest UVB treatment, together with calcium chloride spray, can increase and maintain health-beneficial compound levels such as GLs and prolong the postharvest quality of broccoli microgreens.  相似文献

Aesculus flowers and leaves are an excellent source of bioactive compounds, including flavanols, phenolic acids, and anthocyanins, and the leaves also contain antioxidant carotenoids and chlorophylls. The aim of this study was to analyse and compare the amounts of bioactive compounds present in Aesculus hippocastanum and Aesculus × carnea flowers and leaves over two years. These two species from six independent locations (parks and green areas) located in Warsaw were assessed in this study. The dry matter by the scale method and polyphenol, carotenoid, and chlorophyll content by the HPLC method of the flowers and leaves was evaluated. Red horse chestnut flowers contained significantly more total carotenoids (40.6 µg/g FW) and chlorophylls (36.9 µg/g FW) than horse chestnut flowers, and red horse chestnut flowers contained higher levels of anthocyanins (5.41 µg/g FW) than other species. We observed that horse chestnut flowers were characterized by a higher total polyphenols concentration (9.45 µg/g FW) compared to red horse chestnut flowers. In addition, the analysis of leaves showed that all quality parameters were higher in red horse chestnut species. Five individual anthocyanins were identified in both species’ flowers, but a higher concentration was found in red horse chestnut flowers, and pelargonidin-3-O-glucoside was the predominant form among a pool of total anthocyanins. In both experimental years, leaves (109.25 mMol/100 g FW and 112.0 mMol/100 g FW) were characterized by a higher antioxidant activity than flowers (27.0 mMol/100 g FW and 27.5 mMol/100 g FW).  相似文献

Abstract— Leaf waxes are important to plant growth because they impede water loss and may influence entry of light. Leaf wax quantity and composition were studied in Capsicum annuum plants in trickle-irrigated field plots covered with white, black or red plastic mulches. The quantity of reflected blue light (BL) was greatest over white and about the same over black versus red surfaces; and reflected far-red to red ratios (FR/R) were about the same over white versus black and higher over red. The greatest quantity of total epicuticular wax developed on leaves of plants grown over white mulch (443 μg/cm2) while plants grown over black and red mulches had 229 and 227 μg/cm2, respectively. When individual lipid classes were expressed as percentages of the totals, esters constituted the highest percentages over white and black surfaces while secondary free fatty alcohols dominated over red. The higher ester content of epicuticular wax on plants grown over black (versus red) was almost exactly equalled by increased contents of free fatty alcohols and free fatty acids in the epicuticular wax of plants grown over red mulch. We conclude that the total wax concentration on leaves of field-grown plants was influenced by quantity of BL, and the percentage of individual components was influenced by the FR/R ratio.  相似文献

Chlorophyll synthesis is stimulated by red light pulses in the green alga Ulva rigida C. Aghard. Chlorophyll synthesis in darkness is greater after longer red light pulses (30 min) than after shorter red light pulses (5 min). Chlorophyll synthesis was higher after red light pulses of 14 Wm-2 fluence rate than after those of 7 Wm-2. The effect of red light showed some far-red reversibility. The reversion by far-red light was higher after red light pulses of 4 min than after those of 30 min. These results indicate the existence of a rapid induction of chlorophyll synthesis during the red light pulses and a fast escape from photoreversibility. The percentage of reversion is also affected by the fluence rate of the light pulses. The reversion was reduced by about 15% when the photon fluence rate was increased from 7 to 14 Wm-2. Reversion was also observed when red and far-red light pulses were applied successively. Thus, phytochrome or a phytochrome-like photoreceptor could be involved in the induction of chlorophyll synthesis in Ulva rigida.  相似文献

The study assesses the antioxidant activity, total phenolic content, total flavonoids content and lipophilic pigments (β-carotene, chlorophyll a, chlorophyll b) content in homemade and marketed fruit and vegetable whey beverages and fruit and vegetable mousses. All of the tests were performed using spectrophotometric methods. The highest polyphenol content was found in the homemade green whey beverage W1G (541.95 mg/100 g) and the lowest in the market green whey beverage W2G (46.18 mg/100 g). In the fruit and vegetable mousses under study, the highest content of polyphenolic compounds was determined in the red mousse R3 (76.41 mg/100 g). The highest content of flavonoids was observed in the homemade orange whey beverage W1O (63.06 mg/100 g) and in the green mousse G2 (69.80 mg/100 g). The values of the antioxidant activity of whey beverages and mousses varied depending on the composition. The highest content of β-carotene was identified in homemade orange whey beverage (4.36 mg/100 g) and in orange mousses (in range 1.10–2.24 mg/100 g), while chlorophylls a and b—in homemade green whey beverage W1G (3.00 mg/100 g and 1.31 mg/100 g respectively) and in green mousses (chlorophyll a in range 0.54 to 1.42 mg/100 g and chlorophyll b in range 0.13 to 0.32 mg/100 g).  相似文献

Abstract Anthocyanin synthesis in the hypocotyl of tomato ( Lycopersicon esculentum ) seedlings responds strongly and specifically to blue/UV light while the response to red and far-red light, operating through phytochrome, is weak. The herbicide Norflurazon (SAN 9789) was used to inhibit synthesis of colored carotenoids almost completely without affecting growth and development measurably. Even though carotenoid content was reduced to less than 2% of normal and the fluence rate response function for blue and UV light was linear within the experimental range, Norflurazon treatment did not reduce seedling sensitivity toward blue/UV light. It was concluded that at least'bulk'carotenoids are not the photoreceptor chromophore of the blue/UV photoreceptor pigment.  相似文献

Small-scale photobioreactors (PBRs) in the inoculum stage were designed with internal (red or green) and external white LED light as an initial step of a larger-scale installation aimed at fulfilling the integral biorefinery concept for maximum utilization of microalgal biomass in a multifunctional laboratory. The specific growth rate of Scenedesmus obliquus (Turpin) Kützing biomass for given cultural conditions was analyzed by using MAPLE software. For the determination of total polyphenols, flavonoids, chlorophyll “a” and “b”, carotenoids and lipids, UHPLC-HRMS, ISO-20776/1, ISO-10993-5 and CUPRAC tests were carried out. Under red light growing, a higher content of polyphenols was found, while the green light favoured the flavonoid accumulation in the biomass. Chlorophylls, carotenoids and lipids were in the same order of magnitude in both samples. The dichloromethane extracts obtained from the biomass of each PBR synergistically potentiated at low concentrations (0.01–0.05 mg/mL) the antibacterial activity of penicillin, fluoroquinolones or oregano essential oil against the selected food-borne pathogens (Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli and Salmonella typhimurium) without showing any in vitro cytotoxicity. Both extracts exhibited good cupric ion-reducing antioxidant capacity at concentrations above 0.042–0.08 mg/mL. The UHPLC-HRMS analysis revealed that both extracts contained long chain fatty acids and carotenoids thus explaining their antibacterial and antioxidant potential. The applied engineering approach showed a great potential to modify microalgae metabolism for the synthesis of target compounds by S. obliquus with capacity for the development of health-promoting nutraceuticals for poultry farming.  相似文献

PHYTOCHROME AND EFFECTS OF SHADING ON GROWTH OF WOODLAND PLANTS   总被引:5,自引:0,他引:5
qrowth of Circaea lutetiaim plants was studied in various locations in or near a mixed deciduous woodland. Morphological changes resulting from increased shading included increases in leaf area ratio, specific leaf area and specific water content. Parallel measurements with a spectroradi-ometer confirmed that shading involved a reduction in both light fluence rate and light quality (e.g. red/far-red ratio). Phytochrome Pfr/P status was also studied by spectrophotometric measurements on Avena seedling test material and by biological (Lactuca seed germination) assay. Attempts were made to demonstrate phytochrome controlled changes in plant morphology under controlled environment, using both end-of-day far-red treatment and far-red enrichment of the main light period. Effects of natural shading were most clearly simulated by varying light fluence rate while maintaining a constant but high red/far-red ratio  相似文献

Changes in cellular adenosine 3',5'-cyclic monophosphate (cAMP) content induced by monochromatic light of various wavelengths were determined in the cyanobacterium Anabaena cylindrica. Irradiation with monochromatic red light caused a rapid decrease in cAMP content. In contrast, far-red light caused a rapid increase in its content. The effects of red and far-red light were reversible, suggesting the involvement of a prototype phytochrome as the photoreceptor for cAMP-mediated light-responsive signal transduction.  相似文献
