With increasing interest in the potential utility of metallo-supramolecular architectures for applications as diverse as catalysis and drug delivery, the ability to develop more complex assemblies is keenly sought after. Despite this, symmetrical ligands have been utilised almost exclusively to simplify the self-assembly process as without a significant driving foa mixture of isomeric products will be obtained. Although a small number of unsymmetrical ligands have been shown to serendipitously form well-defined metallo-supramolecular assemblies, a more systematic study could provide generally applicable information to assist in the design of lower symmetry architectures. Pd2L4 cages are a popular class of metallo-supramolecular assembly; research seeking to introduce added complexity into their structure to further their functionality has resulted in a handful of examples of heteroleptic structures, whilst the use of unsymmetrical ligands remains underexplored. Herein we show that it is possible to design unsymmetrical ligands in which either steric or geometric constraints, or both, can be incorporated into ligand frameworks to ensure exclusive formation of single isomers of three-dimensional Pd2L4 metallo-supramolecular assemblies with high fidelity. In this manner it is possible to access Pd2L4 cage architectures of reduced symmetry, a concept that could allow for the controlled spatial segregation of different functionalities within these systems. The introduction of steric directing groups was also seen to have a profound effect on the cage structures, suggesting that simple ligand modifications could be used to engineer structural properties.

Steric and geometric constraints were used to design unsymmetrical ditopic ligands that form single Pd2L4 cage isomers with high fidelity.  相似文献

Octahedral, six‐coordinate Co2+ can exist in two spin states: S = 3/2 and S = 1/2. The difference in energy between high spin (S = 3/2) and low spin (S = 1/2) is dependent on both the ligand mix and coordination stereochemistry. B3LYP calculations on combinations of neutral imidazole, NH3, and H2O ligands show that low‐spin isomers are stabilized by axial H2O ligands and in structures that also include trans pairs of equatorial NH3 and protonated imidazole ligands, spin crossover structures are predicted from spin state energy differences. Occupied Co d orbitals from the DFT calculations provide a means of estimating effective ligand strength for homoleptic and mixed ligand combinations. These calculations suggest that in a labile biological system, a spin crossover environment can be created. © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Int J Quantum Chem, 2007  相似文献

Metal-driven self-assembly is one of the most effective approaches to lucidly design a large range of discrete 2D and 3D coordination architectures/complexes. Palladium(II)-based self-assembled coordination architectures are usually prepared by using suitable metal components, in either a partially protected form (PdL′) or typical form (Pd; charges are not shown), and designed ligand components. The self-assembled molecules prepared by using a metal component and only one type of bi- or polydentate ligand (L) can be classified in the homoleptic series of complexes. On the other hand, the less explored heteroleptic series of complexes are obtained by using a metal component and at least two different types of non-chelating bi- or polydentate ligands (such as La and Lb). Methods that allow the controlled generation of single, discrete heteroleptic complexes are less understood. A survey of palladium(II)-based self-assembled coordination cages that are heteroleptic has been made. This review article illustrates a systematic collection of such architectures and credible justification of their formation, along with reported functional aspects of the complexes. The collected heteroleptic assemblies are classified here into three sections: 1) [(PdL′)m(La)x(Lb)y]-type complexes, in which the denticity of La and Lb is equal; 2) [(PdL′)m(La)x(Lb)y]-type complexes, in which the denticity of La and Lb is different; and 3) [Pdm(La)x(Lb)y]-type complexes, in which the denticity of La and Lb is equal. Representative examples of some important homoleptic architectures are also provided, wherever possible, to set a background for a better understanding of the related heteroleptic versions. The purpose of this review is to pave the way for the construction of several unique heteroleptic coordination assemblies that might exhibit emergent supramolecular functions.  相似文献

Spherical assemblies of the type [PdnL2n]2n+ can be obtained from PdII salts and curved N-donor ligands, L. It is well established that the bent angle, α, of the ligand is a decisive factor in the self-assembly process, with larger angles leading to complexes with a higher nuclearity, n. Herein, we report heteroleptic coordination cages of the type [PdnLnL′n]2n+, for which a similar correlation between the ligand bent angle and the nuclearity is observed. Tetranuclear cages were obtained by combining [Pd(CH3CN)4](BF4)2 with 1,3-di(pyridin-3-yl)benzene and ligands featuring a bent angle of α=120°. The use of a dipyridyl ligand with α=149° led to the formation of a hexanuclear complex with a trigonal prismatic geometry; for linear ligands, octanuclear assemblies of the type [Pd8L8L′8]16+ were obtained. The predictable formation of heteroleptic PdII cages from 1,3-di(pyridin-3-yl)benzene and different dipyridyl ligands is evidence that there are entire classes of heteroleptic cage structures that are privileged from a thermodynamic point of view.  相似文献

Due to the ubiquity of chirality in nature, chiral self-assembly involving self-sorting behaviors has remained as one of the most important research topics of interests. Herein, starting from a racemic mixture of SEG-based (SEG=SEGPHOS) chlorogold(I) precursors, a unique chiral butterfly-shape hexadecanuclear gold(I) cluster (Au16) with different ratios of RSEG and SSEG ligands is obtained via homoleptic and heterochiral self-sorting. More interestingly, by employing different chlorogold(I) precursors of opposite chirality (such as R SEG -Au2 and S BIN -Au2 (BIN=BINAP)), an unprecedented heteroleptic and heterochiral self-sorting strategy has been developed to give a series of heteroleptic chiral decanuclear gold(I) clusters (Au10) with propellor-shape structures. Heterochiral and heteroleptic self-sorting have also been observed between enantiomers of homoleptic chiral Au10 clusters to result in the heteroleptic chiral Au10 clusters via cluster-to-cluster transformation. Incorporation of heteroleptic ligands is found to decrease the symmetry from S4 of homoleptic meso Au10 to C2 of heteroleptic chiral Au10 clusters. The chirality has been transferred from the axial chiral ligands and stored in the heteroleptic gold(I) clusters.  相似文献

Recently developed self-assembly strategies allow to rationally reduce the symmetry of metallosupramolecular architectures. In addition, the combination of multiple ligand types without creating compound mixtures has become possible. Among several approaches to realize non-statistical heteroleptic assembly, Coordination Sphere Engineering (CSE) makes use of secondary repulsive or attractive interactions in direct vicinity of the metal nodes. Previously, we used steric congestion to turn dinuclear [Pd2L4] cages with fourfold symmetry into [Pd2L3X2] (X = solvent, halide) bowl structures. Here, we introduce a new subtype of this strategy based on balancing hydrogen bonding and repulsive interactions between ligands carrying quinoline (LQu) and 1,8-naphthyridine (LNa) donors to generate trans-[Pd2L2] and [Pd2L3L′] cages, assisted by templation of encapsulated fullerenes. Combined with steric congestion caused by acridine (LAc) donors, we further report the first example of a heteroleptic [Pd2L2L′X2] bowl. Formation, structure and fullerene binding ability of these metallo-supramolecular hosts were studied by NMR, mass spectrometry and single crystal X-ray diffraction.

Coordination Sphere Engineering (CSE) allows non-statistical assembly of heteroleptic supramolecular architectures by fine adjustment of steric and electronic features around square-planar Pd(ii) cations with naphthyridine donors.  相似文献

The [Re6(μ3-Se)8]2+ core-containing cluster complexes of the general formula [Re6(μ3-Se)8(PEt3)4L2]2+ (both trans- and cis-isomers) site-differentiated with inert PEt3 and functional L ligands that are capable of hydrogen bonding or secondary (with respect to primary coordination with the cluster core) metal-ligand coordination interactions have been prepared. The applications of such stereospecific cluster isomers as building blocks for supramolecular construction have been studied. A great variety of multicluster arrays mediated by intercluster hydrogen bonding or cluster ligand coordination with secondary metal ions have been obtained and structurally characterized. The findings from this research clearly establish the superior utility of these novel building blocks for the creation of structurally sophisticated architectures and possibly functional materials.  相似文献

The self-assembly of nanostructures is dominated by a limited number of strong coordination elements. Herein, we show that metal–acetylene π-coordination of a tripodal ligand (L) with acetylene spacers gave an M3L2 double-propeller motif (M=CuI or AgI), which dimerized into an M6L4 interlocked cage (M=CuI). Higher (M3L2)n oligomers were also selectively obtained: an M12L8 truncated tetrahedron (M=CuI) and an M18L12 truncated trigonal prism (M=AgI), both of which contain the same double-propeller motif. The higher oligomers exhibit multiply entangled facial structures that are classified as a trefoil knot and a Solomon link. The inner cavities of the structures encapsulate counteranions, revealing a potential new strategy towards the synthesis of functional hollow structures that is powered by molecular entanglements.  相似文献

Non-covalent interactions are important for directing protein folding across multiple intermediates and can even provide access to multiple stable structures with different properties and functions. Herein, we describe an approach for mimicking this behavior in the self-assembly of metal–organic cages. Two ligands, the bend angles of which are controlled by non-covalent interactions and one ligand lacking the above-mentioned interactions, were synthesized and used for self-assembly with Pd2+. As these weak interactions are easily broken, the bend angles have a controlled flexibility giving access to M2( L1 )4, M6( L2 )12, and M12( L2 )24 cages. By controlling the self-assembly conditions this process can be directed in a stepwise fashion. Additionally, the multiple endohedral hydrogen-bonding sites on the ligand were found to play a role in the binding and discrimination of neutral guests.  相似文献

Eight-coordinated DyIII centres with D6h symmetry are expected to act as high-performance single-molecule magnets (SMMs) due to the simultaneous fulfilment of magnetic axiality and a high coordination number (a requisite for air stability). But the experimental realization is challenging due to the requirement of six coordinating atoms in the equatorial plane of the hexagonal bipyramid; this is usually too crowded for the central DyIII ion. Here a hexaaza macrocyclic Schiff base ligand and finetuned axial alkoxide/phenol-type ligands are used to show that a family of hexagonal bipyramidal DyIII complexes can be isolated. Among them, three complexes possess nearly perfect D6h local symmetry. The highest effective magnetic reversal barrier is found at 1338(3) K and an open hysteresis temperature of 6 K at the field sweeping rate of 1.2 mT s−1; this represents a new record for D6h SMMs.  相似文献

The CuI cations in the title compound, [Cu(NCS)(C6H6N2O)2]n, are coordinated by N atoms from each of two mirror‐related nicotinamide ligands, as well as by one N atom of one thiocyanate ligand and one S atom of a symmetry‐related thiocyanate ligand, within a slightly distorted tetrahedron. The CuI cations and the thiocyanate anions are located on a crystallographic mirror plane and the nicotinamide ligands occupy general positions. The CuI cations are connected by the thiocyanate anions to form chains in the direction of the crystallographic a axis. These chains are connected by hydrogen bonds between the amide H atoms and the O atoms of adjacent nicotinamide ligands, to give a three‐dimensional structure.  相似文献

In the title coordination polymer, [Cd2(SO4)2(C13H8N4)(H2O)2]n, there are two crystallographically independent CdII centres with different coordination geometries. The first CdII centre is hexacoordinated by four O atoms of four sulfate ligands, one water O atom and one N atom of a 1H‐imidazo[4,5‐f][1,10]phenanthroline (IP) ligand, giving a distorted octahedral coordination environment. The second CdII centre is heptacoordinated by four O atoms of three sulfate ligands, one water O atom and two N atoms of one chelating IP ligand, resulting in a distorted monocapped anti‐trigonal prismatic geometry. The symmetry‐independent CdII ions are bridged in an alternating fashion by sulfate ligands, forming one‐dimensional ladder‐like chains which are connected through the IP ligands to form two‐dimensional layers. These two‐dimensional layers are linked by interlayer hydrogen bonds, leading to the formation of a three‐dimensional supramolecular network.  相似文献

The syntheses of the two novel complexes [Ag{Mo/W(CO)6}2]+[F-{Al(ORF)3}2] (RF=C(CF3)3) are reported along with their structural and spectroscopic characterization. The X-ray structure shows that three carbonyl ligands from each M(CO)6 fragment bend towards the silver atom within binding Ag−C distance range. DFT calculations of the free cations [Ag{M(CO)6}2]+ (M=Cr, Mo, W) in the electronic singlet state give equilibrium structures with C2 symmetry with two bridging carbonyl groups from each hexacarbonyl ligand. Similar structures with C2 symmetry (M=Nb) and D2 symmetry (M=V, Ta) are calculated for the isoelectronic group 5 anions [Ag{M(CO)6}2] (M=V, Nb, Ta). The electronic structure of the cations is analyzed with the QTAIM and EDA-NOCV methods, which provide detailed information about the nature of the chemical bonds between Ag+ and the {M(CO)6}2q (q = −2, M = V, Nb, Ta; q = 0, M = Cr, Mo, W) ligands.  相似文献

We report the synthesis and X‐ray characterization of the N6‐benzyl‐N6‐methyladenine ligand (L) and three metal complexes, namely [Zn(HL)Cl3]·H2O ( 1 ), [Cd(HL)2Cl4] ( 2 ) and [H2L]2[Cd3(μ‐L)2(μ‐Cl)4Cl6]·3H2O ( 3 ). Complex 1 consists of the 7H‐adenine tautomer protonated at N3 and coordinated to a tetrahedral Zn(II) metal centre through N9. The octahedral Cd(II) in complex 2 is N9‐coordinated to two N6‐benzyl‐N6‐methyladeninium ligands (7H‐tautomer protonated at N3) that occupy apical positions and four chlorido ligands form the basal plane. Compound 3 corresponds to a trinuclear Cd(II) complex, where the central Cd atom is six‐coordinated to two bridging μ‐L and four bridging μ‐Cl ligands. The other two Cd atoms are six‐coordinated to three terminal chlorido ligands, to two bridging μ‐Cl ligands and to the bridging μ‐L through N3. Essentially, the coordination patterns, degree of protonation and tautomeric forms of the nucleobase dominate the solid‐state architectures of 1 – 3 . Additionally, the hydrogen‐bonding interactions produced by the endocyclic N atoms and NH groups stabilize high‐dimensional‐order supramolecular assemblies. Moreover, energetically strong anion–π and lone pair (lp)–π interactions are important in constructing the final solid‐state architectures in 1 – 3 . We have studied the non‐covalent interactions energetically using density functional theory calculations and rationalized the interactions using molecular electrostatic potential surfaces and Bader's theory of atoms in molecules. We have particularly analysed cooperative lp–π and anion–π interactions in 1 and π+–π+ interactions in 3 .  相似文献

1368-Tetra(1H-pyrazol-4-yl)-9H-carbazole (H4CTP), a tetra-pyrazole ligand with Cs symmetry, has been synthesized based on a carbazole core. A solvothermal reaction of this ligand with NiCl2·6H2O gave a three-dimensional (3-D) metal-organic framework (MOF), [Ni(H4CTP)Cl2]·nS (BUT-41), which crystallized in the cubic space group Pm-3 in spite of H4CPT with a central carbazole core and four peripheral pyrazole rings has low symmetry. The framework of BUT-41 can be regarded as a four-connected 3-D net with the rhr topology when both the organic ligand and the metal center are considered as four-connected nodes. Nanocages with internal diameter of 2 nm are present in the framework of BUT-41, which are formed by interconnecting 12 H4CTP ligands and 20 Ni(II) ions. Each nanocage connects with six adjacent cages through sharing hexagonal windows with diameter over 7 Å, resulting in 3-D intersecting channels of the MOF. Although the tetra-pyrazole ligand is not deprotonated after coordination with the metal ions, powder X-ray diffraction and N2 adsorption experiments reveal that the framework of BUT-41 is rigid and permanently porous with the Brunauer-Emmett-Teller surface area up to 1551 m2 g?1. Furthermore, gas adsorption experiments show that this MOF selectively adsorbs CO2 over N2 and CH4.  相似文献

The structures of [Cu(AA)6](ClO4)2, (I), and [Mn(AA)6](ClO4)2, (II) (AA is acrylamide, also known as prop‐2‐enamide; C3H5NO), display both intra‐ and intermolecular N—H...O hydrogen bonding. A three‐dimensional network is propagated via the perchlorate counter‐ions. There are two crystallographically independent molecules in the copper complex, with the most significant difference between them being the conformation of one symmetry‐related pair of AA ligands which are in the unusual syn conformation. The copper complex exhibits syn/anti disorder of the =CH2 group in one pair of symmetry‐related AA ligands. The CuII and MnII centres are both situated on centres of inversion. The copper complex cation has octahedral coordination geometry with typical Jahn–Teller distortions.  相似文献

ESR spectra of liquid and frozen benzene solutions of isotope-enriched95,97,98MoVO(dtc)3 complexes ([ x Mo]>95%, dtc is theN,N-diethyl dithiocarbamate ligand) and their solid solutions in a matrix of tetraethylthiuram disulfide were studied in the X-range. Comparison of the experimental and calculated parameters of the ESR spectra shows that the axial symmetry of the magnetic tensors does not contradict the low symmetry of the complex, in which the “ylic” oxygen and five of six S atoms in three dithiocarbamate ligands form the coordination sphere of the metal. The asymmetric unit of the title compound, {[Cu(CO3)(C14H14N4)1.5]·0.5C14H14N4·5H2O}n, contains one CuII cation in a slightly distorted square‐pyramidal coordination environment, one CO32− anion, one full and two half 1,4‐bis(imidazol‐1‐ylmethyl)benzene (bix) ligands, one half‐molecule of which is uncoordinated, and five uncoordinated water molecules. One of the coordinated bix ligands and the uncoordinated bix molecule are situated about centers of symmetry, located at the centers of the benzene rings. The coordinated bix ligands link the copper(II) ions into a [Cu(bix)1.5]n molecular ladder. These molecular ladders do not form interpenetrated ladders but are arranged in an ABAB parallel terrace, i.e. with the ladders arranged one above another, with sequence A translated with respect to B by 8 Å. To best of our knowledge, this arrangement has not been observed in any of the molecular ladder frameworks synthesized to date. The coordination environment of the CuII atom is completed by two O atoms of the CO32− anion. The framework is further strengthened by extensive O—H...O and O—H...N hydrogen bonds involving the water molecules, the O atoms of the CO32− anion and the N atoms of the bix ligands. This study describes the first example of a molecular ladder coordination polymer based on bix and therefore demonstrates further the usefulness of bix as a versatile multidentate ligand for constructing coordination polymers with interesting architectures.  相似文献

Coordination polymers are a thriving class of functional solid‐state materials and there have been noticeable efforts and progress toward designing periodic functional structures with desired geometrical attributes and chemical properties for targeted applications. Self‐assembly of metal ions and organic ligands is one of the most efficient and widely utilized methods for the construction of CPs under hydro(solvo)thermal conditions. 2‐(Pyridin‐3‐yl)‐1H‐imidazole‐4,5‐dicarboxylate (HPIDC2−) has been proven to be an excellent multidentate ligand due to its multiple deprotonation and coordination modes. Crystals of poly[aquabis[μ3‐5‐carboxy‐2‐(pyridin‐3‐yl)‐1H‐imidazole‐4‐carboxylato‐κ5N1,O5:N3,O4:N2]copper(II)dicopper(I)], [CuIICuI2(C10H5N3O4)2(H2O)]n, (I), were obtained from 2‐(pyridin‐3‐yl)‐1H‐imidazole‐4,5‐dicarboxylic acid (H3PIDC) and copper(II) chloride under hydrothermal conditions. The asymmetric unit consists of one independent CuII ion, two CuI ions, two HPIDC2− ligands and one coordinated water molecule. The CuII centre displays a square‐pyramidal geometry (CuN2O3), with two N,O‐chelating HPIDC2− ligands occupying the basal plane in a trans geometry and one O atom from a coordinated water molecule in the axial position. The CuI atoms adopt three‐coordinated Y‐shaped coordinations. In each [CuN2O] unit, deprotonated HPIDC2− acts as an N,O‐chelating ligand, and a symmetry‐equivalent HPIDC2− ligand acts as an N‐atom donor via the pyridine group. The HPIDC2− ligands in the polymer serve as T‐shaped 3‐connectors and adopt a μ3‐κ2N,O2N′,O′:κN′′‐coordination mode, linking one CuII and two CuI cations. The Cu cations are arranged in one‐dimensional –Cu1–Cu2–Cu3– chains along the [001] direction. Further crosslinking of these chains by HPIDC2− ligands along the b axis in a –Cu2–HPIDC2−–Cu3–HPIDC2−–Cu1– sequence results in a two‐dimensional polymer in the (100) plane. The resulting (2,3)‐connected net has a (123)2(12)3 topology. Powder X‐ray diffraction confirmed the phase purity for (I), and susceptibilty measurements indicated a very weak ferromagnetic behaviour. A thermogravimetric analysis shows the loss of the apical aqua ligand before decomposition of the title compound.  相似文献

Pincer complexes can act as catalysts in organic transformations and have potential applications in materials, medicine and biology. They exhibit robust structures and high thermal stability attributed to the tridentate coordination of the pincer ligands and the strong σ metal–carbon bond. Nickel derivatives of these ligands have shown high catalytic activities in cross‐coupling reactions and other industrially relevant transformations. This work reports the crystal structures of two polymorphs of the title NiII POCOP pincer complex, [Ni(C29H41N2O8P2)Cl] or [NiCl{C6H2‐4‐[OCOC6H4‐3,5‐(NO2)2]‐2,6‐(OPtBu2)2}]. Both pincer structures exhibit the NiII atom in a distorted square‐planar coordination geometry with the POCOP pincer ligand coordinated in a typical tridentate manner via the two P atoms and one arene C atom via a C—Ni σ bond, giving rise to two five‐membered chelate rings. The coordination sphere of the NiII centre is completed by a chloride ligand. The asymmetric units of both polymorphs consist of one molecule of the pincer complex. In the first polymorph, the arene rings are nearly coplanar, with a dihedral angle between the mean planes of 27.9 (1)°, while in the second polymorph, this angle is 82.64 (1)°, which shows that the arene rings are almost perpendicular to one another. The supramolecular structure is directed by the presence of weak C—H…O=X (X = C or N) interactions, forming two‐ and three‐dimensional chain arrangements.  相似文献
