We present a theory of the existence and stability of traveling periodic and solitary space charge wave solutions to a standard rate equation model of electrical conduction in extrinsic semiconductors which includes effects of field-dependent impurity impact ionization. A nondimensional set of equations is presented in which the small parameter β = (dielectric relaxation time) / (characteristic impurity time) 1 plays a crucial role for our singular perturbation analysis. For a narrow range of wave velocities a phase plane analysis gives a set of limit cycle orbits corresponding to periodic traveling waves. while for a unique value of wave velocity we find a homoclinic orbit corresponding to a moving solitary space charge wave of the type experimentally observed in p-type germanium. A linear stability analysis reveals all waves to be unstable under current bias on the infinite one-dimensional line. Finally, we conjecture that solitary waves may be stable in samples of finite length under voltage bias.  相似文献

We study dynamical behaviors of traveling wave solutions to a Fujimoto-Watanabe equation using the method of dynamical systems. We obtain all possible bifurcations of phase portraits of the system in different regions of the threedimensional parameter space. Then we show the required conditions to guarantee the existence of traveling wave solutions including solitary wave solutions, periodic wave solutions, kink-like(antikink-like) wave solutions, and compactons. Moreover, we present exact expressions and simulations of these traveling wave solutions. The dynamical behaviors of these new traveling wave solutions will greatly enrich the previews results and further help us understand the physical structures and analyze the propagation of nonlinear waves.  相似文献

In this paper, we study the bifurcations and dynamics of traveling wave solutions to a Fujimoto-Watanabe equation by using the method of dynamical systems. We obtain all possible bifurcations of phase portraits of the system in different regions of the parametric space. Then we show the sufficient conditions to guarantee the existence of traveling wave solutions including solitary wave solutions, periodic wave solutions, compactions and kink-like and antikink-like wave solutions. Moreover, the expressions of solitary wave solutions and periodic wave solutions are implicitly given, while the expressions of kink-like and antikink-like wave solutions are explicitly shown. The dynamics of these new traveling wave solutions will greatly enrich the previews results and further help us understand the physical structures and analyze the propagation of the nonlinear wave.  相似文献

In this Letter, we investigate the perturbed nonlinear Schrödinger's equation (NLSE) with Kerr law nonlinearity. All explicit expressions of the bounded traveling wave solutions for the equation are obtained by using the bifurcation method and qualitative theory of dynamical systems. These solutions contain bell-shaped solitary wave solutions, kink-shaped solitary wave solutions and Jacobi elliptic function periodic solutions. Moreover, we point out the region which these periodic wave solutions lie in. We present the relation between the bounded traveling wave solution and the energy level h. We find that these periodic wave solutions tend to the corresponding solitary wave solutions as h increases or decreases. Finally, for some special selections of the energy level h, it is shown that the exact periodic solutions evolute into solitary wave solution.  相似文献

This paper is concerned with the existence of travelling wave solutions to a singularly perturbed generalized Gardner equation with nonlinear terms of any order. By using geometric singular perturbation theory and based on the relation between solitary wave solution and homoclinic orbits of the associated ordinary differential equations, the persistence of solitary wave solutions of this equation is proved when the perturbation parameter is sufficiently small. The numerical simulations verify our theoretical analysis.  相似文献

In this letter, we study an integrable Camassa-Holm hierarchy whose high-frequency limit is the Camassa-Holm equation. Phase plane analysis is employed to investigate bounded traveling wave solutions. An important feature is that there exists a singular line on the phase plane. By considering the properties of the equilibrium points and the relative position of the singular line, we find that there are in total three types of phase planes. Those paths in phase planes which represented bounded solutions are discussed one-by-one. Besides solitary, peaked and periodic waves, the equations are shown to admit a new type of traveling waves, which concentrate all their energy in one point, and we name them deltons as they can be expressed as some constant multiplied by a delta function. There also exists a type of traveling waves we name periodic deltons, which concentrate their energy in periodic points. The explicit expressions for them and all the other traveling waves are given.  相似文献

Different from what we have expected before, when a homoclinic orbit intersects with a quadratic singular curve on the topological phase plane derived from a generalized KdV equation, corresponding to the homoclinic orbit, there exist a few types of solitary waves, including peakons and antipeakons as well as periodic waves and furthermore, new types of solitary waves with peaks. The investigation shows that, when a trajectory along the homoclinic orbit moves at the intersection points between the homoclinic orbit and the singular curve, it may jump between these intersection points, which forms peaks on the waves, implying the nonsmooth solitary waves occur.  相似文献

This paper reviews results about the existence of spatially localized waves in nonlinear chains of coupled oscillators, and provides new results for the Fermi-Pasta-Ulam (FPU) lattice. Localized solutions include solitary waves of permanent form and traveling breathers which appear time periodic in a system of reference moving at constant velocity. For FPU lattices we analyze the case when the breather period and the inverse velocity are commensurate. We employ a center manifold reduction method introduced by Iooss and Kirchgassner in the case of traveling waves, which reduces the problem locally to a finite dimensional reversible differential equation. The principal part of the reduced system is integrable and admits solutions homoclinic to quasi-periodic orbits if a hardening condition on the interaction potential is satisfied. These orbits correspond to approximate travelling breather solutions superposed on a quasi-periodic oscillatory tail. The problem of their persistence for the full system is still open in the general case. We solve this problem for an even potential if the breather period equals twice the inverse velocity, and prove in that case the existence of exact traveling breather solutions superposed on an exponentially small periodic tail.  相似文献

Nonlinear autonomous dynamical systems with ahomoclinic tangency to a periodic orbit are investigated. We study the bifurcation sequences of the mixed-mode oscillations generated by the homoclinicity, which are shown to belong to two different types, depending on the nature of the Liapunov numbers of the basic periodic orbit. A detailed numerical analysis is carried out to show how the existence of a tangent homoclinic orbit allows us to understand in a quantitative way a particular and regular sequence of cool flame-ignition oscillations observed in a thermokinetic model of hydrocarbon oxidation. Chaotic cool flame oscillations are also observed in the same model. When the control parameter crosses a critical value, this chaotic set of trajectories becomes globally unstable and forms a Cantor-like hyperbolic repellor, and the ignition mechanism generates ahomoclinic tangency to the Cantor set of trajectories. The complex bifurcation diagram may be globally reconstructed from a one-dimensional dynamical system, thanks to the strong contractivity of thermokinetics. It is found that a symbolic dynamics with three symbols is necessary to classify the periodic windows of the complex bifurcation sequence observed numerically in this system.  相似文献

In this letter, we investigate traveling wave solutions of a nonlinear wave equation with degenerate dispersion. The phase portraits of corresponding traveling wave system are given under different parametric conditions. Some periodic wave and smooth solitary wave solutions of the equation are obtained. Moreover, we find some new hyperbolic function compactons instead of well-known trigonometric function compactons by analyzing nilpotent points.  相似文献

By applying the bifurcation theory of dynamical system to the generalized KP-BBM equation, the phase portraits of the travelling wave system are obtained. It can be shown that singular straight line in the travelling wave system is the reason why smooth periodic waves converge to periodic cusp waves. Under different parametric conditions, various sufficient conditions to guarantee the existence of the above solutions are given. Some exact explicit parametric representations of the above waves are obtained.   相似文献

Bifurcations of the complex homoclinic loops of an equilibrium saddle point in a Hamiltonian dynamical system with two degrees of freedom are studied. It arises to pick out the stationary solutions in a system of two coupled nonlinear Schrodinger equations. Their relation to bifurcations of hyperbolic and elliptic periodic orbits at the saddle level is studied for varying structural parameters of the system. Series of complex loops are described whose existence is related to periodic orbits.  相似文献

In this paper, we employ the bifurcation method of dynamical systems to study the solitary waves and periodic waves of a generalized Boussinesq equations. All possible phase portraits in the parameter plane for the travelling wave systems are obtained. The possible solitary wave solutions, periodic wave solutions and cusp waves for the general Boussinesq type fluid model are also investigated.  相似文献

The theory of bifurcations for dynamical system is employed to construct new exact solutions of the generalized nonlinear Schrödinger equation. Firstly, the generalized nonlinear Schrödinger equation was converted into ordinary differential equation system by using traveling wave transform. Then, the system's Hamiltonian, orbits phases diagrams are found. Finally, six families of solutions are constructed by integrating along difference orbits, which consist of Jacobi elliptic function solutions, hyperbolic function solutions, trigonometric function solutions, solitary wave solutions, breaking wave solutions, and kink wave solutions.  相似文献

The space–time dynamics of the network system modeling collective behavior of electrically coupled nonlinear cells is investigated. The dynamics of a local cell is described by the FitzHugh–Nagumo system with complex threshold excitation. Heteroclinic orbits defining traveling wave front solutions are investigated in a moving frame system. A heteroclinic contour formed by separatrix manifolds of two saddle-foci is found in the phase space. The existence of such structure indicates the appearance of complex wave patterns in the network. Such solutions have been confirmed and analyzed numerically. Complex homoclinic orbits found in the neighborhood of the heteroclinic contour define the propagation of composite pulse excitations that can be self-replicated in collisions leading to the appearance of complex wave patterns.  相似文献

By using the method of dynamical system, the bidirectional wave equations are considered. Based on this method, all kinds of phase portraits of the reduced travelling wave system in the parametric space are given. All possible bounded travelling wave solutions such as dark soliton solutions, bright soliton solutions and periodic travelling wave solutions are obtained. With the aid of Maple software, numerical simulations are conducted for dark soliton solutions, bright soliton solutions and periodic travelling wave solutions to the bidirectional wave equations. The results presented in this paper improve the related previous studies.  相似文献

We propose a variational method for determining homoclinic and heteroclinic orbits including spiral-shaped ones in nonlinear dynamical systems. Starting from a suitable initial curve, a homotopy evolution equation is used to approach a true connecting orbit. The procedure is an extension of a variational method that has been used previously for locating cycles, and avoids the need for linearization in search of simple connecting orbits. Examples of homoclinic and heteroclinic orbits for typical dynamical systems are presented. In particular, several heteroclinic orbits of the steady-state Kuramoto–Sivashinsky equation are found, which display interesting topological structures, closely related to those of the corresponding periodic orbits.  相似文献
