We show that a model describing the interaction between normal and infectious prion proteins admits global solutions. More precisely, supposing the involved degradation rates to be bounded, we prove global existence and uniqueness of classical solutions. Based on this existence theory, we provide sufficient conditions for the existence of global weak solutions in the case of unbounded splitting rates. Moreover, we prove global stability of the disease-free steady state.  相似文献

We consider the inertial Qian–Sheng model of liquid crystals which couples a hyperbolic-type equation involving a second-order material derivative with a forced incompressible Navier–Stokes system. We study the energy law and prove a global well-posedness result. We propose an algorithm to locate a global maximum of an increasing function subject to an increasing constraint on the cone of vectors with nonnegative coordinates. We consider a nonlinear plate equation with thermal memory effects due to non-Fourier heat flux laws. First we prove the existence and uniqueness of global solutions as well as the existence of a global attractor. Then we use a suitable ?ojasiewicz-Simon type inequality to show the convergence of global solutions to single steady states as time goes to infinity under the assumption that the nonlinear term f is real analytic. In this paper, we investigate some nonlocal diffusion problems with free boundaries. We first give the existence and uniqueness of local solution by the ODE basic theory and the contraction mapping principle. Then we provide a complete classification for the global existence and finite time blow-up of solutions. We study the dynamics of a degenerate parabolic equation with a variable, generally non-smooth diffusion coefficient, which may vanish at some points or be unbounded. We show the existence of a global branch of nonnegative stationary states, covering both the cases of a bounded and an unbounded domain. The global bifurcation of stationary states, implies-in conjuction with the definition of a gradient dynamical system in the natural phase space-that at least in the case of a bounded domain, any solution with nonnegative initial data tends to the trivial or the nonnegative equilibrium. Applications of the global bifurcation result to general degenerate semilinear as well as to quasilinear elliptic equations, are also discussed. In this paper we consider reaction-diffusion systems in which the conditions imposed on the nonlinearity provide global existence of solutions of the Cauchy problem, but not uniqueness. We prove first that for the set of all weak solutions the Kneser property holds, that is, that the set of values attained by the solutions at every moment of time is compact and connected. Further, we prove the existence and connectedness of a global attractor in both the autonomous and nonautonomous cases. The obtained results are applied to several models of physical (or chemical) interest: a model of fractional-order chemical autocatalysis with decay, the Fitz-Hugh-Nagumo equation and the Ginzburg-Landau equation.  相似文献

We provide bounds on the upper box-counting dimension of negatively invariant subsets of Banach spaces, a problem that is easily reduced to covering the image of the unit ball under a linear map by a collection of balls of smaller radius. As an application of the abstract theory we show that the global attractors of a very broad class of parabolic partial differential equations (semilinear equations in Banach spaces) are finite-dimensional.  相似文献

We classify in this paper different augmented Lagrangian functions into three unified classes. Based on two unified formulations, we construct, respectively, two convergent augmented Lagrangian methods that do not require the global solvability of the Lagrangian relaxation and whose global convergence properties do not require the boundedness of the multiplier sequence and any constraint qualification. In particular, when the sequence of iteration points does not converge, we give a sufficient and necessary condition for the convergence of the objective value of the iteration points. We further derive two multiplier algorithms which require the same convergence condition and possess the same properties as the proposed convergent augmented Lagrangian methods. The existence of a global saddle point is crucial to guarantee the success of a dual search. We generalize in the second half of this paper the existence theorems for a global saddle point in the literature under the framework of the unified classes of augmented Lagrangian functions.  相似文献

We consider a multidimensional Burgers equation on the torus Td and the whole space Rd. We show that, in case of the torus, there exists a unique global solution in Lebesgue spaces. For a torus we also provide estimates on the large time behaviour of solutions. In the case of Rd we establish the existence of a unique global solution if a Beale-Kato-Majda type condition is satisfied. This work develops an algorithm for global optimization.The algorithm is of gradient ascent typeand uses random perturbations.In contrast to the annealing type procedurcs,the perturbation noise intensityis large.We demonstrate that by properly varying the noise intensity,approximations to the global maximumcan be achieved.We also show that the expected time to reach the domain of attraction of the global maximum,which can be approximated by the solution of a boundary value problem,is finite.Discrete-time algorithmsare proposed;recursive algorithms with occasional perturbations involving large noise intensity are developed.Numerical examples are provided for illustration.  相似文献
