We report the observation of Shubnikov-de Haas oscillations in the underdoped cuprate superconductor YBa2Cu4O8 (Y124). For fields aligned along the c axis, the frequency of the oscillations is 660+/-30 T, which corresponds to approximately 2.4% of the total area of the first Brillouin zone. The effective mass of the quasiparticles on this orbit is measured to be 2.7+/-0.3 times the free electron mass. Both the frequency and mass are comparable to those recently observed for ortho-II YBa2Cu3O6.5 (Y123-II). We show that although small Fermi surface pockets may be expected from band-structure calculations in Y123-II, no such pockets are predicted for Y124. Our results therefore imply that these small pockets are a generic feature of the copper oxide plane in underdoped cuprates.  相似文献

The infrared (900-1100 cm(-1)) Faraday rotation and circular dichroism are measured in the normal state of underdoped High T(c) superconductors and used to study the magnetotransport. YBa2Cu3O6+x thin films are investigated in the temperature range 10-300 K in magnetic fields up to 8 T and as a function of oxygen concentration. A dramatic increase of the Hall frequency is observed for underdoped samples, which is not consistent with the approach to a Mott transition but is consistent with a partial gapping of the Fermi surface as predicted in density wave models.  相似文献

The de Haas-van Alphen effect was observed in the underdoped cuprate YBa2Cu3O6.5 via a torque technique in pulsed magnetic fields up to 59 T. Above a field of approximately 30 T the magnetization exhibits clear quantum oscillations with a single frequency of 540 T and a cyclotron mass of 1.76 times the free electron mass, in excellent agreement with previously observed Shubnikov-de Haas oscillations. The oscillations obey the standard Lifshitz-Kosevich formula of Fermi-liquid theory. This thermodynamic observation of quantum oscillations confirms the existence of a well-defined, closed, and coherent, Fermi surface in the pseudogap phase of cuprates.  相似文献

Fermi surface models applied to the underdoped cuprates predict the small pocket area to be strongly dependent on doping whereas quantum oscillations in YBa(2)Cu(3)O(6+x) find precisely the opposite to be true--seemingly at odds with the Luttinger volume. We show that such behavior can be explained by an incommensurate antinodal Fermi surface nesting-type instability--further explaining the doping-dependent superstructures seen in cuprates using scanning tunneling microscopy. We develop a Fermi surface reconstruction scheme involving orthogonal density waves in two dimensions and show that their incommensurate behavior requires momentum-dependent coupling. A cooperative modulation of the charge and bond strength is therefore suggested.  相似文献

本文综述了高Tc氧化物超导体(La_2CuO_4及YBa_2Cu_3O_(7-8)的(计算)电子结构。本文基于Freeman教授研究组的工作。 (1) 体心四方结构的La_2CuO_4能带结构计算结果表明:La_2CuO_4的电子结构由在正方形Cu-O平面内的Cu3d-O2p相瓦作用所控制。存在一个沿[110]方向|q|=2k_F(强的)迭套的Fermi表面,它导致了电子驱动的结构失稳,以及在电子状态密度上的VanHove对数奇性。此种Fermi面的迭套被认为是引起了(Peierls 2k_F)失稳性,从而解释了La_(2-x)M_xCuO_4由四方结构到正交结构的相变。 (2) 如同在La_(2-x)M_xCuO_4中的情况一样,具正交结构的YBa_2Cu_3O_(7-8)的电子结构由Cu-O间的相互作用所支配;同时存在着二维及一维的Cu3d-O2p相互作用为YBa_2Cu_3O_(7-8)电子结构的特征。YBa2Cu_3O_(7-8)在E_F处的状态密度值低于La_(2-x)M_xCuO_4的相应值,在YBa_2Cu_3O_(7-8)中的Y或Ba原子作用如同一电子的施主。  相似文献

We have measured the effect of oxygen isotope substitution on the ab-plane reflectance of underdoped YBa(2)Cu(3)O(7-delta). The frequency shift of the transverse optic phonons due to the substitution of 16O by 18O yields an isotope effect of the expected magnitude for copper-oxygen stretching modes with alpha=0.5+/-0.1. The reflectance shoulder at 400-500 cm(-1) shows a much smaller exponent of alpha=0.1+/-0.1 in the normal state and alpha=0.23+/-0.1 in the superconducting state. These observations suggest that the shoulder is of electronic origin and not due to a phonon mode as has been suggested recently.  相似文献

Evidence for static alternating magnetic fields in the vortex cores of underdoped YBa2Cu3O6+x is reported. Muon spin rotation measurements of the internal magnetic field distribution of the vortex state of YBa2Cu3O6.50 in applied fields of H = 1 T and H = 4 T reveal a feature in the high-field tail of the field distribution which is not present in optimally doped YBa2Cu3O6.95 and which fits well to a model with static magnetic fields in the vortex cores. The magnitude of the fields is estimated to be 18(2) G and decreases above T = 10 K. We discuss possible origins of the additional vortex core magnetism within the context of existing theories.  相似文献

The thermodynamics of the superconducting transition is studied as a function of doping using high-resolution expansivity data of YBa(2)Cu(3)O (x) single crystals and Monte Carlo simulations of the anisotropic 3D- XY model. We directly show that T(c) of underdoped YBa(2)Cu(3)O (x) is strongly suppressed from its mean-field value (T(MF)(c)) by phase fluctuations of the superconducting order parameter. For overdoped YBa(2)Cu(3)O (x) fluctuation effects are greatly reduced and T(c) approximately T(MF)(c). We find that T(MF)(c) exhibits a similar doping dependence as the pseudogap energy, naturally suggesting that the pseudogap arises from phase-incoherent Cooper pairing.  相似文献

We successfully tuned an underdoped ultrathin YBa2Cu3O(7-x) film into the overdoped regime by means of electrostatic doping using an ionic liquid as a dielectric material. This process proved to be reversible. Transport measurements showed a series of anomalous features compared to chemically doped bulk samples and a different two-step doping mechanism for electrostatic doping was revealed. The normal resistance increased with carrier concentration on the overdoped side and the high temperature (180 K) Hall number peaked at a doping level of p~0.15. These anomalous behaviors suggest that there is an electronic phase transition in the Fermi surface around the optimal doping level.  相似文献

We report resistivity measurements in underdoped YBa 2Cu3O6.6 and overdoped Tl 2Ba2CuO6+x single crystals in which the concentration of defects in the CuO (2) planes is controlled by electron irradiation. Low T upturns of the resistivity are observed in both cases for large defect content. In the Tl compound the decrease of conductivity scales as expected from weak localization theory. On the contrary, in YBa 2Cu3O6.6 the much larger low T contribution to the resistivity is proportional to the defect content and might then be associated with a Kondo-like spin flip scattering term. This would be consistent with the results on the magnetic properties induced by spinless defects.  相似文献

Using the local density approximation and a realistic phonon spectrum we determine the momentum and frequency dependence of alpha(2)F(k,omega) in YBa(2)Cu(3)O(7) for the bonding, antibonding, and chain band. The resulting self-energy Sigma is rather small near the Fermi surface. For instance, for the antibonding band the maximum of ReSigma as a function of frequency is about 7 meV at the nodal point in the normal state and the ratio of bare and renormalized Fermi velocities is 1.18. These values are a factor of 3-5 too small compared to the experiment showing that only a small part of Sigma can be attributed to phonons. Furthermore, the frequency dependence of the renormalization factor Z(k,omega) is smooth and has no anomalies at the observed kink frequencies which means that phonons cannot produce well-pronounced kinks in stoichiometric YBa(2)Cu()3)O(7), at least, within the local density approximation.  相似文献

We have measured the transport properties of a series of underdoped YBa(2)Cu(3)O(7-delta) nanowires fabricated with widths of 100-250 nm. We observe large telegraphlike fluctuations in the resistance between the pseudogap temperature T* and the superconducting transition temperature T(c), consistent with the formation and dynamics of a domain structure. We also find anomalous hysteretic steps in the current-voltage characteristics well below T(c).  相似文献

We report measurements of the ab-plane superfluid density n(s) (magnetic penetration depth lambda) of heavily underdoped films of YBa2Cu3O6+x, with T(C)'s from 6 to 50 K. We find the characteristic length for vortex unbinding transition equal to the film thickness, suggesting strongly coupled CuO2 layers. At the lowest dopings, T(C) is as much as 5 times larger than the upper limit set by the 2D Kosterlitz-Thouless-Berezinskii transition temperature calculated for individual CuO2 bilayers. Our main finding is that T(C) is not proportional to n(s)(0); instead, we find T(C) proportional to ns(1/2.3+/-0.4). This conflicts with a popular point of view that quasi-2D thermal phase fluctuations determine the transition temperature.  相似文献

The lower critical field H(c1) for highly underdoped YBa2Cu3O(6+x) with T(c) between 8.9 and 22 K has been determined by measurements of magnetization M(H) curves with applied field parallel to the c axis. H(c1) is linear in temperatures below about 0.6T(c), and H(c1)(0) is proportional to T(1.64+/-0.04)(c), clearly violating the proportionality between rho(s)(0) and T(c). Moreover, the slope -dH(c1)/dT decreases steeply toward zero as T(c) approaches zero, indicating that the effective charge of the quasiparticles vanishes as the doping is decreased toward the insulating phase.  相似文献

The c-axis reflectivity spectrum of underdoped YBa2Cu3O6.6 (YBCO) is measured below T(c)=59 K in parallel magnetic fields H parallel CuO2 up to 7 T. Upon application of a parallel field, a new peak appears at finite frequency in the optical conductivity at the expense of suppression of c-axis condensate weight. We conclude that the dramatic change originates from different Josephson coupling strengths between bilayers with and without Josephson vortices. We find that the 400 cm(-1) broad conductivity peak in YBCO gains the spectral weight under parallel magnetic field; this indicates that the condensate weight at omega=0 is distributed to this peak as well as to the new optical Josephson mode.  相似文献

Neutron scattering has been used to measure the charge and spin structure in the highly underdoped superconductor YBa(2)Cu(3)O(6.35). Incommensurate static charge ordering is found that remains at high temperatures. The magnetic pattern is complex with a resonance and incommensurate structure observed at low temperatures. The results clarify the role of striped phases in YBa(2)Cu(3)O(6+x) superconductors.  相似文献

We report measurements of the in-plane thermal conductivity kappa of the stoichiometric underdoped cuprate YBa2Cu4O8 (Y124) below 1 K. kappa(T) is shown to follow a simple phononic T3 dependence at the lowest temperature T for both current directions, with a negligible linear quasiparticle contribution. This observation is in marked contrast with behavior reported in optimally doped cuprates, and implies that extended zero-energy (or low-energy) quasiparticles are absent in Y124.  相似文献

We analyze magnetic penetration depth (lambda) data of the recently discovered superconducting pyrochlore oxide RbOs(2)O(6). Our results strongly suggest that in RbOs(2)O(6) charged critical fluctuations dominate the temperature dependence of lambda near T(c). This is in contrast with the mean-field behavior observed in conventional superconductors and the uncharged critical behavior found in nearly optimally doped cuprate superconductors. However, this finding agrees with the theoretical predictions for charged criticality and the charged criticality observed in underdoped YBa(2)Cu(3)O(6.59).  相似文献

We present a study of the spin dynamics of magnetic defects induced by Li substitution of the plane Cu in the normal state of YBa2Cu3O6+x. The fluctuations of the coupled Cu magnetic moments in the vicinity of Li are probed by near-neighbor 89Y and 7Li NMR spin lattice relaxation. The data indicate that the magnetic perturbation fluctuates as a single entity with a correlation time tau which scales with the local static susceptibility. This behavior is reminiscent of the low T Kondo state of magnetic impurities in conventional metals. Surprisingly it extends well above the "Kondo" temperature for the underdoped pseudogapped case.  相似文献
