While intra-atomic f–d hybridization is expected, experimental confirmation of f–d hybridization in the photoemission final state leading to 4f band structure has been limited to 5f systems and compound systems with very shallow 4f levels. We demonstrate that core 4f states can contribute to the valence band structure in a wide band gap dielectric, in this case HfO2 in the photoemission final state. In spite of the complications of sample charging, we find evidence of symmetry in the shallow 4f levels and wave vector dependent band dispersion, the latter consistent with the crystal structure of HfO2.  相似文献

The electronic structures of the distrontium magnesium disilicate (Sr2MgSi2O7(:Eu2+)) materials were studied by a combined experimental and theoretical approach. The UV-VUV synchrotron radiation was applied in the experimental study while the electronic structures were investigated theoretically by using the density functional theory. The structure of the valence and conduction bands and the band gap energy of the material as well as the position of the Eu2+ 4f ground state were calculated. The calculated band gap energy (6.7 eV) agrees well with the experimental value of 7.1 eV. The valence band consists mainly of the oxygen states and the bottom of the conduction band of the Sr states. The calculated occupied 4f ground state of Eu2+ lies in the energy gap of the host though the position depends strongly on the Coulomb repulsion strength. The position of the 4f ground state with respect to the valence and conduction bands is discussed using the theoretical and experimental evidence available.  相似文献

The electronic structure of Sr2Bi2O5 is calculated by the GGA approach. Both of the valence band maximum and the conduction band minimum are located at Γ-point. This means that Sr2Bi2O5 is a direct band-gap material. The wide energy-band dispersions near the valence band maximum and the conduction band minimum predict that holes and electrons generated by band gap excitation have a high mobility. The conduction band is composed of Bi 6p, Sr 4d and O 2p energy states. On the other hand, the valence band can be divided into two energy regions ranging from −9.5 to −7.9 eV (lower valence band) and from −4.13 to 0 eV (upper valence band). The former mainly consists of Bi 6s states hybridizing with O 2s and O 2p states, and the latter is mainly constructed from O 2p states strongly interacting with Bi 6s and Bi 6p states.  相似文献

The electronic structure and chemical bonding in HgGa2S4 crystals grown by vapor transport method are investigated with X-ray photoemission spectroscopy. The valence band of HgGa2S4 is found to be formed by splitted S 3p and Hg 6s states at binding energies BE=3-7 eV and the components at BE=7-11 eV generated by the hybridization of S 3s and Ga 4s states with a strong contribution from the Hg 5d states. At higher binding energies the emission lines related to the Hg 4f, Ga 3p, S 2p, S 2s, Hg 4d, Ga LMM, Ga 3p and S LMM states are analyzed in the photoemission spectrum. The measured core level binding energies are compared with those of HgS, GaS, AgGaS2 and SrGa2S4 compounds. The valence band spectrum proves to be independent on the technological conditions of crystal growth. In contrast to the valence band spectrum, the distribution of electron states in the bandgap of HgGa2S4 crystals is found to be strongly dependent upon the technological conditions of crystal growth as demonstrated by the photoluminescence analysis.  相似文献

The effects of mono-doping of 4f lanthanides with and without oxygen vacancy defect on the electronic structures of anatase TiO2 have been studied by first-principles calculations with DFT+U (DFT with Hubbard U correction) to treat the strong correlation of Ti 3d electrons and lanthanides 4f electrons. Our results revealed that dopant Ce is easy to incorporate into the TiO2 host by substituting Ti due to its lower substitutional energy (∼−2.0 eV), but the band gap of the system almost keeps intact after doping. The Ce 4f states are located at the bottom of conduction band, which mainly originates from Ti 3d states. The magnetic moment of doped Ce disappears due to electron transfer from Ce to the nearest O atoms. For Pr and Gd doping, their substitutional energies are similar and close to zero, indicating that both of them may also incorporate into the TiO2 host. For Pr doping, some 4f spin-down states are located next to the bottom of the conduction band and narrow the band gap of the doping system. However, for Gd doping, the 4f states are located in deep valence band and there is no intermediate band in the band gap. The magnetic moment of dopant Gd is close to the value of isolated Gd atom (∼7 μB), indicating no overlapping between Gd 4f with other orbitals. For Eu, it is hard to incorporate into the TiO2 host due to its very higher substitutional energy. The results also indicated that oxygen vacancy defect may enhance the adsorption of the visible light in Ln-doped TiO2 system.  相似文献

The electron distribution in the valence band from single crystals of titanium carbide has been studied by photoelectron spectroscopy with photon energies h?ω = 16.8, 21.2, 40.8 and 1486.6 eV. The most conspicious feature of the electron distribution curves for TiC is a hybridization between the titanium 3d and carbon 2p states at ca. 3–4-eV binding energy, and a single carbon 2s band at ca. 10 eV. By taking into account the strong symmetry and energy dependence of the photoionization crosssections, as well as the surface sensitivity, we have identified strong emission from a carbon 2p band at ? 2.9-eV energy. Our results are compared with several recent energy band structure calculations and other experimental data. Results from pure titanium, which have been used for reference purposes, are also presented.The valence band from single crystals of titanium carbide have been studied by means of photoelectron spectroscopy, with photon energies ranging from 16.8 to 1486.6 eV.By taking into account effects such as the symmetry and energy dependence of the photoionization cross-sections and surface sensitivity, we have found the valence band of titanium carbide to consist of two peaks. The upper part of the valence band at 3–4 eV below the Fermi level consists of a hybridization between Ti 3d and C 2p states. The C 2p states observed in our spectra were mainly excited from a band about 2.9 eV below the Fermi level. The APW5–9, MAPW10 and EPM11 band structure calculations predict a flat band of p-character between the symmetry points X4 and K3, most likely responsible for the majority of C 2p excitations observed. The C 2s states, on the other hand, form a single band centered around ?10.4 eV.The results obtained are consistent with several recent energy band structure calculations5–11, 13 that predict a combined bonding of covalent, ionic and metallic nature.  相似文献

Electronic structure of the ternary GdNi4Si compound, crystallizing in hexagonal CaCu5 structure (P6/mmm space group) was studied by magnetic measurements, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and ab initio calculations. Core levels and valence band were investigated. The valence band of the XPS spectra is determined mainly by the Ni(3d) and Gd(4f) bands. The peaks’ positions are in good agreement with binding energies of a metallic gadolinium and nickel. The experimental valence band spectrum as well as the calculated density of states exhibit the domination of the Ni(3d) states in region from −4 eV to the Fermi level.  相似文献

采用局域密度泛函理论和第一性原理的方法,计算四方结构和六角结构硅酸锌的平衡晶格常数、电子态密度和能带结构。计算结果表明,四方结构硅酸锌的平衡晶格常数为0.71048nm,六角结构为1.40877nm,两者与实验值的误差均在1%左右。态密度图显示,主要电子态分布在-7.18~0.00eV和2.79~10.50eV两个能量区域;同时,不同元素电子对导带和价带有不同贡献,其中氧的p态电子对价带顶贡献最大,锌的s态电子对导带底贡献最大。能带计算表明,四方与六角结构硅酸锌均为直接带隙半导体,禁带宽度分别为2.66,2.89eV。  相似文献

The first complete analysis of photoionization cross section in the whole valence band of 2H-MoS2 is reported. The measurements, taken with synchrotron radiation in the 65–190 eV energy range, allow the identification of the Mo 4d contribution to the electron states in the different regions of the valence density of states. In particular it is found that the deepest valence peak contains a considerable 4d contribution.  相似文献

A comparative experimental study is presented of the electronic properties of MnSi films grown on Si(1 1 1) and of MnSi single crystals, using X-ray absorption spectroscopy (XAS), and core level and valence band photoemission spectroscopy (PES). No significant differences in the electronic structure of the two systems can be found.Absorption measurements on the Mn 2p threshold show a mixed valence ground state, where the multiplet structure is washed out by the hybridisation of the Mn 3d states with the Si sp states. These results are also confirmed by photoemission (PE) spectra from the valence band and the Mn 3s, 3p and 2p core levels.Strong attention has been paid to the effect of contamination. The occurrence of multiplet effects in the absorption spectra indicates unambiguously the localisation of the Mn 3d electrons in Mn-O bonds, which strongly influences the electronic properties of these systems.  相似文献

We report on density functional theory (DFT) calculations of the total and partial densities of states of rubidium dilead pentabromide, RbPb2Br5, employing the augmented plane wave+local orbitals (APW+lo) method as incorporated in the WIEN2k package. The calculations indicate that the Pb 6s and Br 4p states are the dominant contributors to the valence band: their main contributions are found to occur at the bottom and at the top of the band, respectively. Our calculations reveal that the bottom of the conduction band is formed predominantly from contributions of the unoccupied Pb 6p states. Data of total DOS derived in the present DFT calculations are found to be in agreement with the experimental X-ray photoelectron valence-band spectrum of this compound. The predominant contributions of the Br 4p states at the top of the valence band of rubidium dilead pentabromide are confirmed by comparison on a common energy scale of the X-ray emission band representing the energy distribution of the valence Br p states and the X-ray photoelectron valence-band spectrum of the RbPb2Br5 single crystal. Main optical characteristics of RbPb2Br5, such as dispersion of the absorption coefficient, real and imaginary parts of dielectric function, electron energy-loss spectrum, refractive index, extinction coefficient and optical reflectivity are explored for RbPb2Br5 by the DFT calculations.  相似文献

基于密度泛函理论的第一原理赝势法,研究了Mg在Li(Co,Al)O2中掺杂前后的电子结构的变化.通过能带和态密度的分析,发现Mg掺杂后在价带中引入了电子空穴,同时价带展宽,这两个电子结构的显著变化是引起Li(Co,Al)O2导电率提高的主要机理.通过对Co3d电子态密度的分析发现,在二价Mg掺杂后,Li(Co,Al)O2中的Co价态升高,介于Co3+和Co4+之间.从能带计算出发,进一步定量给出了Co和O的平均价态的变化. 关键词: Li(Co Al)O2 电子结构 第一原理 电导  相似文献

We resolved a recent controversy on the structure of the Ce L(3) x-ray absorption spectra (XAS) of CeFe(2); i.e., which of the single impurity Anderson model (SIAM) and the first-principles band calculations based on the density-functional theory (DFT) describes more appropriately the Ce 4f states and their contribution to the Ce L(3) XAS? For this purpose, we examined the core-hole effect in Ce L(3) XAS as an application of our new method taking advantage of resonant x-ray emission spectroscopy. Our result clearly shows that the Ce L(3) XAS structure is caused by the mixed valence 4f character revealed by the core-hole potential effect as indicated by SIAM, but denies the possibility that the L(3) XAS structure is caused by the 5d band structure with a very small core-hole effect as predicted by band calculations based on DFT.  相似文献

The electronic structure of BaFe(2)As(2) doped with Co, Ni and Cu has been studied by a variety of experimental and theoretical methods, but a clear picture of the dopant 3d states has not yet emerged. Herein we provide experimental evidence of the distribution of Co, Ni and Cu 3d states in the valence band. We conclude that the Co and Ni 3d states provide additional free carriers to the Fermi level, while the Cu 3d states are found at the bottom of the valence band in a localized 3d(10) shell. These findings help shed light on why superconductivity can occur in BaFe(2)As(2) doped with Co and Ni but not Cu.  相似文献

Photoemission spectra of Sn-doped In2O3(111) have been measured using a range of photon energies between 40 and 1300 eV. The intensity of structure at the bottom of the valence band associated with states of mixed Sn 5s/O 2p character increases with increasing photon energy relative to that of states of more dominantly O 2p character at the top of the valence band, as expected from one electron ionisation cross sections. In addition a pronounced resonance in the intensity of a weak conduction band feature is observed around the In 4p core threshold.  相似文献

用含有非球对称修正的FPLMTO和LDA+UDFT,LDA+USIC研究了NiO的电子结构,发现由于非球对称势场的引入,导致了占据的3d轨道eg分量的轨道有序化.结果表明在这一类复杂的强关联电子中,原子球内非球对称性多极势场对电子结构的影响已经比较明显:除了上述的轨道有序化以外,eg分量的位置下移,宽度明显变窄,呈现局域化的趋势;两种不同LDA+U方法计算得出的电荷转移能隙分别为337eV(DFT)和25eV(SIC).同时发现在NiO中,上、下Hubbard带实际上是由占据的和非占据的3deg轨道构成,3dt2g轨道和O2p轨道的杂化带具有较大的带宽,因而也具有一定的巡游特性.结果表明在NiO中有特征明显的3d电子轨道有序化.通过研究得出结论:在NiO这一类体系的电子结构计算中,势场的非球对称性部分和球间区势场的作用,以及轨道极化等因素都应该恰当地处理 关键词: 关联电子系统 过渡金属氧化物 电子结构  相似文献

在超高真空系统中制备了Yb275C60薄膜.对样品进行了同步辐射光电子能谱研究.在费米能级以下约5 eV范围内的谱数据由Yb275C60价带(C60分子轨道LUMO,HOMO和HOMO 1导出的能带)和芯态(Yb 4f7/2,4f5/2)能级构成.用紫外能区不同能量的入射光子,用C 2p和Yb 4f光电离截面随光子能量的不同变化规律,通过定量拟合,得到了对谱线有贡献的上述各个组分的峰位、峰宽和强度.结果表明,光子能量高于约300 eV时,芯态4f的贡献使得实验结果远远偏离价带的本征态密度分布.因此,研究Yb275C60价态时,应使用能量低于300 eV的光子.对实验和拟合结果分析,发现了类似纯C60的光电离截面振荡现象.振荡幅度相对于纯C60较小,反映了化合物中C60分子的化学环境对光电离截面振荡现象起着不可忽略的作用. 关键词: Yb275C60 同步辐射光电子能谱 光电离截面振荡  相似文献

The valence of Bi and its substituents Sn and Sb are investigated in the high temperature superconductor (Bi0.8X0.15Sb0.05)2Sr2Ca2Cu3Oy (often denoted 2223) where X=Pb or Sn. Pb and Sn are isoelectronic with the valence states 2+ and 4+; Bi and Sb are as well with valence states 3+ and 5+. The valence state of Sn and Sb has been obtained from Mössbauer spectroscopy: they exist in the high charge states 4+ and 5+ respectively. Sn, Sb, and presumably Pb, take on the high valence state, and so furnish electrons to the conduction band. This is probably the reason why, although the (Pb, Sb)-doping aids in stabilizing the 2223 crystal structure, it is detremental to the electronic properties which lead to the superconducting phase. The valence state of Bi has been studied using X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). These results show clearly that the Bi-based superconductor has a metal-like density of states at the Fermi level, and that the valence in the (Pb, Sb)-doped compounds is less than 3. This very surprising change in valence will have a profound effect on the superconducting properties, and is probably associated with the high valent states of Pb, Sn and Sb.  相似文献
