Several experiments were performed with a Kolsky Bar (Split Hopkinson Pressure Bar) device to investigate the dynamic axial buckling of cylindrical shells. The Kolsky Bar is a loading as well as a measuring device which can subject the shells to a fairly good square pulse. An attempt is made to understand the interaction between the stress wave and the dynamic buckling of cylindrical shells. It is suggested that the dynamic axial buckling of the shells, elastic or elasto-plastic, is mainly due to the compressive wave rather than the flexural or bending wave. The experimental results seem to support the two critical velocity theory for plastic buckling, withV c1 corresponding to an axisymmetric buckling mode andV c2 corresponding to a non-symmetric buckling mode. In this paper, experimental studies are carried out on the buckling of circular cylindrical thin shells under impact torque. Experiments of impact buckling are made on a Hopkinson torsional bar. The torsional bar gives a step torque on the shells. Through an analysis of the strain-time curve obtained in experiment, the dynamic buckling critical torqueM er and buckling waves numbern of the shell with different geometric data and some qualitative results are obtained. The buckling behavior of circular cylindrical thin shells under static and impact torque is compared.  相似文献

In this paper the dynamic torsional buckling of multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWNTs) embedded in an elastic medium is studied by using a continuum mechanics model. By introducing initial imperfections for MWNTs and applying the preferred mode analytical method, a buckling condition is derived for the buckling load and associated buckling mode. In particular, explicit expressions are obtained for embedded double-walled carbon nanotubes (DWNTs). Numerical results show that, for both the DWNTs and embedded DWNTs, the buckling form shifts from the lower buckling mode to the higher buckling mode with increasing the buckling load, but the buckling mode is invari- able for a certain domain of the buckling load. It is also indicated that, the surrounding elastic medium generally has effect on the lower buckling mode of DWNTs only when compared with the corresponding one for individual DWNTs.  相似文献

A dynamic method for predicting the buckling load of an elastic column is formulated. The method is based on the integral-equation representation of a column with varying cross section and elastic springs at the boundaries. The experimental inputs are the dynamic properties of the unloaded column (trequencies, mode shapes and masses). The buckling loads predicted for three tested configurations agreed well with loads defined by other static and dynamic methods.  相似文献

The dynamic elastic buckling behavior of a geometrically imperfect complete spherical shell that is subjected to a uniform external step pressure is examined using Sander's equilibrium and kinematic equations, appropriately modified to include the influence of inertia forces and initial stress-free imperfections in the radius. A finite-difference procedure with either the Houbolt or Park methods of time integration is used to predict the axisym-metric dynamic elastic buckling pressures and associated critical mode numbers. The dynamic buckling problem of elastic bars subjected to axial impact has been investigated by many authors in different ways. In this paper the problem, in which the elastic bars are assumed to be ideally straight, is reformulated in connection with the bifurcation due to the stress wave propagation. In the present paper, experimental studies on dynamic plasticbuckling of circular cylindrical shells under axial impact are carried out. Hopkinson bar and drop hammer apparatus are used for dynamic loading. Three groups of circular cylindrical shells made of copper are tested under axial impact. From the experiments, the first critical velocity corresponding to the axi-symmetric buckling mode and the second critical velocity corresponding to the non-axisymmetric buckling mode are determined. The present results come close to those of second critical velocity given by Wang Ren[4–6]. Two different kinds of non-axisymmetric buckling modes oval-shaped and triangle shaped are founded. The buckling modes under two loading cases, viz. with small mass but high velocity and with large mass and low velocity using Hopkinson bar and drop hammer, are different. Their critical energies are also discussed. 利用显式动力学有限元方法对直杆弹塑性动力后屈曲进行了分析,模拟了直杆轴向碰撞动力屈曲的变形及发展过程。分析中在直杆碰撞端局部临界屈曲长度范围内引入半正弦波形式的初始缺陷,计算结果与文献中的实验数据获得了很好的一致。分析结果表明,随着碰撞过程中所产生的应力波逐渐向前传播,后屈曲变形过程中所呈现的多个半波形式的高阶屈曲模态由初始具有单个半波形式的简单屈曲模态迅速演变而成。分析结果同时也揭示了直杆动力屈曲变形发展的机理,以及轴向应力波和屈曲变形的相互作用规律。  相似文献

Summary Nonlinear dynamic buckling of nonlinearly elastic dissipative/nondissipative multi-mass systems, mainly under step load of infinite duration, is studied in detail. These systems, under the same loading applied statically, experience a limit point instability. The analysis can be readily extended to the case of dynamic buckling under impact loading. Energy, topological and geometrical aspects for the total potential energyV, which is constrained to lie in a region of phase-space whereV0, allow conclusions to be drawn directly regarding dynamic buckling. Criteria leading to very good, approximate and lower/upper bound dynamic buckling estimates are readily established without solving the highly nonlinear set of equations of motion. The theory is illustrated with several analyses of a two-degree-of-freedom model.  相似文献

Out-of-plane buckling of anisotropic elastic plate subjected to a simple shear is investigated. From exact 3-D equilibrium conditions of anisotropic elastic body with a plane of elastic symmetry at critical configuration, the eqution for buckling direction (buckling wave direction) parameter is derived and the shape functions of possible buckling modes are obtained. The traction free boundary conditions which must hold on the upper and lower surfaces of plate lead to a linear eigenvalue problem whose nontrivial solutions are just the possible buckling modes for the plate. The buckling conditions for both flexural and barreling modes are presented. As a particular example of buckling of anisotropic elastic plate, the buckling of an orthotropic elastic plate, which is subjected to simple shear along a direction making an arbitrary angle of θ with respect to an elastic principal axis of materials, is analyzed. The buckling direction varies with θ and the critical amount of shear. The numerical results show that only the flexural mode can indeed exist. The problem of dynamic buckling of a bar under the influence of a compressive force is solved taking into account inertial and elastic forces in different stages of the process. The duration of the inertial stage is determined. It is shown that in solids and gas–liquid media, the duration of the inertial stage for real parameters of structural members can be longer than the duration of impact loading.  相似文献

对传统的霍普金森压杆装置(SHPB)进行改进,用于研究弹性直杆的动态屈曲与后屈曲,并且分析了影响实验精度的因素。实验结果表明,在轴向应力波作用下弹性直杆的动态屈曲临界载荷明显高于静态的,并且在屈曲发生后,在直杆中有弯曲波产生,其波速大约为弹性剪切波的波速。  相似文献

Elastic buckling of layered/fibre reinforced composites is investigated. Assuming the existence of both shear and transverse modes of failure, the fibre is analysed as a layer embedded in a matrix. Interacting stresses, acting at the interfaces are determined from an exact derived stress field in the matrix. It is shown that buckling can occur only in the shear buckling mode and that the transverse buckling mode is spurious. As opposed to the well known Rosen shear buckling mode solution (predicated on an infinite buckling wavelength), shear buckling is shown to exist under two régimes: buckling of dilute composites with finite wavelengths and buckling of non-dilute composites with infinite wavelengths. Based on the analysis, a model is constructed which defines the fibre concentration at which the transition between the two régimes occurs. The buckling strains are shown to be (approximately) constant for dilute composites and, in the case of very stiff fibres, to have realistic values compatible with elastic behaviour. For the case of non-dilute composites, the strains are found to be in agreement with those given by the Rosen shear buckling solution. Numerical results for the buckling strains and stresses are presented and compared with the Rosen solution. These reveal that the Rosen solution is valid only for the case of non-dilute composites. The investigation demonstrates that elastic buckling may be a dominant failure mechanism of composites consisting of very stiff fibres fabricated in the framework of nano-technology.  相似文献
