The use of crosslinked poly(styrene‐co‐4‐vinylpyridine) having functional groups as the support for zirconocene catalysts in ethylene polymerization was studied. Several factors affecting the activity of the catalysts were examined. Conditions like time, temperature, Al/N (molar ratio), Al/Zr (molar ratio), and the mode of feeding were found having no significant influence on the activity of the catalysts, while the state of the supports had a great effect on the catalytic behavior. The activity of the catalysts sharply increased with either the degree of crosslinking or the content of 4‐vinylpyridine in the support. Via aluminum compounds, AlR3 or methylaluminoxane (MAO), zirconocene was attached on the surface of the support. IR spectra showed an intensified and shifted absorption bands of C N in the pyridine ring, and a new absorption band appeared at about 730 cm−1 indicating a stable bond Al N formed in the polymer‐supported catalysts. The formation of cationic active centers was hypothesized and the performance of the polymer‐supported zirconocene was discussed as well. © 1999 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. Nine new fluorinated half-sandwich titanocene complexes (1b–9b) based on substituted alkylindenes were synthesized, by reacting Me3SnF with the corresponding chloride species, and employed as catalyst precursors for the syndiospecific polymerization of styrene. When activated with methylaluminoxane (MAO), the new precursors 1b–9b exhibited increased activities by factors of 15-40 compared with the corresponding chlorinated compounds and provided improved syndiotacticity, enhanced melting temperature, and higher polymer molecular weights. The activities of indenyl and methyl- or phenyl-substituted indenyl complexes were found to be higher by factors of 4-12.5 than those of CpTiF3 and Cp*TiF3. More importantly, the amount of MAOcan be reduced to an Al : Ti molar ratio of 300 in the temperature range of 10-90°C. It is likely that Ti F, more polarized than the Ti Cl bond in the half-sandwich titanocenes, allows the formation of more active and stable active sites of Ti(III) complexes needed for the syndiospecific polymerization of styrene. Evidence in this direction is brought via the electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) spectrum and redox titration. The higher activity and syndiospecificity of the fluorinated catalysts are attributable to a greater number, more stable Ti(III) active sites, and/or higher propagation rate constant. © 1999 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. Five new CpTiCl2(OR) alkoxyl-substituted half-sandwich complexes, where R was methoxyethyl ( 1 ), methoxypropyl ( 2 ), methoxyisopropyl ( 3 ), o-methoxyphenyl ( 4 ), or tetrahydrofurfuryl ( 5 ), were synthesized, characterized, and tested as catalyst precursors for the syndiospecific polymerization of styrene. These precursors were more active than (η5-cyclopentadienyl)trichlorotitanium (CpTiCl3). The different structures of the alkoxyl ligands affected the activity slightly. When the polymerization was carried out in bulk, all the complexes ( 1–5 ) exhibited high activities, even at the low molar ratio of Al/Ti = 300. The syndiotactic polystyrene (s-PS) percentage of the polymer produced by alkoxyl-substituted complexes was much higher than that of CpTiCl3. The really active center might be described as [CpTiMe]+ · [MAOX] · nMAO (where MAO is methylaluminoxane). The normal active species [CpTiMe]+ made up the core and the anion mass [MAOX] · nMAO surrounded the core and constituted the outer shell circumstance. They activated the syndiospecific polymerization of styrene as a whole. For a high concentration of MAO, the function of the alkoxyl group was weak because of the limited proportion in the outer shell. For a low concentration of MAO, the proportion of alkoxyl ligands in the outer shell increased greatly, and their influence also became significant, as reflected in a higher s-PS percentage of the obtained polymer. The existence of the additional oxygen atom in the alkoxyl ligand stabilized the active species more effectively; this was reflected in the higher temperature of the maximum activities. © 2001 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. An efficient introduction of aromatic vinyl group into syndiotactic polystyrene has been achieved by incorporation of 3,3′‐divinylbiphenyl, p‐divinylbenzene (DVB) in syndiospecific styrene polymerization using aryloxo‐modified half‐titanocenes, Cp′TiCl2(O‐2,6‐iPr2C6H3) (Cp′ = tBuC5H4, 1,2,4‐Me3C5H2), in the presence of MAO. The resultant polymers possessed high molecular weights with uniform molecular weight distributions, and the DVB contents could be varied by the initial feed molar ratios (6–23 mol %) without decrease in the Mn values. The syndiotactic stereo‐regularity and presence of the vinyl groups were confirmed by NMR spectra. © 2016 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Polym. Sci., Part A: Polym. Chem. 2016 , 54, 1902–1907  相似文献

The syndiospecific polymerization of styrene was investigated with the fluorine‐containing half‐sandwich complexes η5‐pentamethylcyclopentadienyl titanium bis(trifluoroacetate) dimer, η5‐octahydrofluorenyl titanium tristrifluoro‐acetate, η5‐octahydrofluorenyl titanium dimethoxymonotrifluoroacetate, and η5‐octahydrofluorenyl titanium tris(pentafluorobenzoate) in comparison to known chloride and methoxide complexes in the presence of relatively low amounts of methylalumoxane and triisobutylaluminum. After the selection of effective reaction conditions for a solvent‐free polymerization, the following orders of decreasing polymerization activity of the titanium complexes can be observed: for pentamethylcyclopentadienyl compounds, Cp*Ti(OMe)3 > [Cp*Ti(OCOCF3)2]2O ≈ Cp*TiCl3, and for octahydrofluorenyl compounds, [656]Ti(OMe)3 > [656]Ti(OCOC6F5)3 > [656]Ti(OCH3)2(OCOCF3) > [656]Ti (OCOCF3)3. The [656]Ti complexes, showing the highest polymerization conversions at 70 °C and in comparison with the Cp* Ti compounds, turned out to be highly efficient catalysts for the syndiospecific styrene polymerization. The fluorine‐containing Cp* and [656]Ti complexes lead to much higher molecular weights than the chloride and methoxide compounds because of a reduction in chain‐limiting transfer reactions. The introduction of only one fluorine‐containing ligand into the coordination sphere of the metal compound is obviously sufficient for a significant increase in molecular weight. The active polymerization sites of the [656]Ti complexes with methylalumoxane and triisobutylaluminum are extremely stable during storage at room temperature in regard to their polymerization activity. © 2000 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. A series of new neutral allyl Group 3 metal complexes bearing ansa-bridged fluorenyl/cyclopentadienyl ligands [[Flu-EMe(2)-(3-R-Cp)]Ln(eta(3)-C(3)H(5))(THF)] (E=C, R=H, Ln=Y (2), La (3), Nd (4), Sm (5); R=tBu, Ln=Y (8), Nd (9); E=Si, R=H, Ln=Y (12), Nd (13)) were synthesized in good yields via salt metathesis protocols. The complexes were characterized by elemental analysis, NMR spectroscopy for diamagnetic complexes, and single-crystal X-ray diffraction studies for 2, 4, 9 and 12. Some of the allyl ansa-lanthanidocenes, especially 4, are effective single-component catalysts for the polymerization of styrene, giving pure syndiotactic polystyrenes (rrrr > 99 %) with low to high molecular weights (M(n)=6000-135,000 g mol(-1)) and narrow polydispersities (M(w)/M(n)=1.2-2.6). The catalyst systems are remarkably stable, capable of polymerizing styrene up to 120 degrees C with high activities, while maintaining high syndiotacticity via chain-end control as established by a Bernoullian analysis. Highly effective copolymerization of styrene with ethylene was achieved using neodymium complex 4 (activity up to 2530 kg PS-PE mol(-1) h(-1)) to give true copolymers void of homopolymers with M(n)=9000-152,000 g mol(-1) and narrow polydispersities (M(w)/M(n)=1.2-2.5). The nature of the resultant P(S-co-E) copolymers was ascertained by NMR, size-exclusion chromatography/refractive index/UV, temperature rising elusion fractionation, and differential scanning calorimetry. It is shown that, regardless the amount of ethylene incorporated (1-50 mol %), P(S-co-E) copolymers have a microstructure predominantly made of long highly syndiotactic PS sequences separated by single or few ethylene units. Co-monomers feed and polymerization temperature can be used straightforwardly to manipulate with the physical and mechanical characteristics of the P(S-co-E) copolymers (molecular weights and distributions, co-monomer content, microstructure, T(m), T(g), T(c)).  相似文献

Poly(styrene-co-acrylamide)(PSAm)-titanium complexes (PSAm · Ti) were prepared and characterized. It is found that the coordination number of acrylamide (Am) to Ti in the complexes is strongly dependent on Am content in PSAm, but not on [Am]/[Ti] ratio in the feed. The infrared and x-ray photoelectron spectra suggest that the polymer-supported complexes possess the structure The catalytic behavior of the complexes in styrene polymerization is described. The catalytic activity is markedly affected by [Al]/[Ti] ratio in the complexes. 13C NMR, IR, and DSC data indicate that the polystyrene obtained with PSAm · Ti/MAO (MAO = methylaluminoxane) is highly syndiotactic. Use of Et3Al and i-Bu3Al in place of MAO gives atactic polystyrene. The activities of the various aluminum compounds used as the cocatalysts decrease in the order: MAO > Et3Al > i-Bu3Al. The polymer-supported complexes show relatively high activity even after the complexes had been exposed to air for 19 h or higher polymerization temperature. © 1996 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.  相似文献

The current development of the metallocene-based catalysts for syndiotactic polystyrene (SPS) has been reviewed. SPS is a new semi-crystalline engineering thermoplastic with a crystalline melting point of 270°C. Because of its crystalline nature, SPS has high heat resistance, excellent chemical resistance and waterysteam resistance. In this review, some mechanistic models for polymerization and stereoregulation, as well as the factors which affect the activity and stereospecificity of the catalysts, are discussed.  相似文献

Recent developments in the synthesis of heterogeneous catalytic supports are reported. In combination with grafting and precipitation polymerization techniques, ring opening metathesis polymerization (ROMP) has been applied to the synthesis of surface‐functionalized inorganic and organic supports. Applications of these well‐defined heterogeneous catalytic supports in C‐C coupling reactions (Heck couplings) as well as in atom‐transfer radical polymerization (ATRP) are reported.  相似文献

The polymerization of vinyl chloride (VC) with half‐titanocene /methylaluminoxane (MAO) catalysts is investigated. The polymerization of VC with the Cp*Ti(OCH3)3/MAO catalyst (Cp* = η5‐pentamethylcyclopentadienyl) afforded high‐molecular‐weight poly(vinyl chloride) (PVC) in good yields, although the polymerization proceeded at a slow rate. With the Cp*TiCl3/MAO catalyst, the polymer was also obtained, but the polymer yield was lower than that with the Cp*Ti(OCH3)3/MAO catalyst. The polymerization of VC with the Cp*Ti(OCH3)3/MAO catalyst was influenced by the MAO/Ti mole ratio and reaction temperature, and the optimum was observed at the MAO/Ti mole ratio of about 10. The optimum reaction temperature of VC with the Cp*Ti(OCH3)3/MAO catalyst was around 20 °C. The stereoregularity of PVC obtained with the Cp*Ti(OCH3)3/MAO catalyst was different from that obtained with azobisisobutyronitrile, but highly stereoregular PVC could not be synthesized. From the elemental analyses, the 1H and 13C NMR spectra of the polymers, and the analysis of the reduction product from PVC to polyethylene, the polymer obtained with Cp*Ti(OCH3)3/MAO catalyst consisted of only regular head‐to‐tail units without any anomalous structure, whereas the Cp*TiCl3/MAO catalyst gave the PVC‐bearing anomalous units. The polymerization of VC with the Cp*Ti(OCH3)3/MAO catalyst did not inhibit even in the presence of radical inhibitors such as 2,2,6,6,‐tetrametylpiperidine‐1‐oxyl, indicating that the polymerization of VC did not proceed via a radical mechanism. © 2002 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Styrene oligomers, preferentially consisting of styrene dimers and trimers, are formed by a free radical mechanism at the thermal polymerization of stabilizer-free styrene during storage and at higher polymerization temperatures. The identity of several dimer and trimer fractions formed in such a free radical polymerization, their influence on a coordinative polymerization reaction, the syndiospecific polymerization of styrene, as well as their effect on the properties of the resulting polymers has been investigated.Styrene dimers and styrene trimers reduce the polymerization activity of the transition metal catalyst significantly, especially at low amounts of oligomers added to the styrene. This behavior is discussed with respect to a proposed mechanism involving complexation of the active transition metal species with the specific oligomer instead of the styrene monomer, resulting in increased steric hindrance towards insertion of a styrene molecule to the active site. Both oligomers reduce the molecular weight of the syndiotactic polystyrene, by acting as chain-transfer agents. The constancy of the polydispersity over the whole concentration range of added dimer or trimer indicates that the uniformity of the active sites of the coordinative polymerization is not significantly influenced by the presence of the oligomers. The thermal properties of the polymers demonstrate that the oligomers do not affect the high syndiospecificity of the active catalytic sites, whereas the increase in crystallization temperature with increasing amounts of styrene dimer or trimer is comparable to effects observed by the addition of crystallization nucleators to semicrystalline polymers.  相似文献

Anionic or neutral allylic samarium or neodymium species catalyse the polymerization of styrene (catalyst/styrene ratio = 1:1000) without addition of a cocatalyst. Random syndiotactic‐rich material is obtained from tetra‐allyl‐lanthanides, whereas neutral trisallyl‐lanthanides or anionic ansa‐bis(cyclopentadienyl)bisallyl‐lanthanides afford isotactic‐rich polystyrene. The polymerization of ethylene was carried out with a novel in situ supported metallocene catalyst that eliminated the need for a supporting step before polymerization. In the absence of trimethyl aluminum (TMA), in situ supported Et[Ind]2ZrCl2 was not active, but the addition of TMA during polymerization activated the catalyst. Et[Ind]2Zr(CH3)2 was active even in the absence of TMA, whereas the addition of TMA during polymerization enhanced the catalytic activity. The polymerization‐rate profiles of the in situ supported metallocene catalysts did not show rate decay as a function of time. A polymerization mechanism for the in situ supported metallocene catalysts is proposed for this behavior. During polymerization, the in situ supported metallocene catalysts may deactivate, but homogeneous metallocene species present in the reactor may form new active sites and compensate for deactivated sites. © 2000 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. Syndiotactic polystyrene (sPS) is a highly crystalline polymer with high melting point (270°C). The syndiospecific polymerization of styrene to sPS with metallocene catalysts is characterized by significant phase changes that lead to global gelation. Since sPS does not dissolve in styrene or solvents such as toluene and n-heptane, sPS precipitates out immediately from the liquid phase with the start of polymerization. The polymer crystallites aggregate to primary particles and they develop to a gel. The gelation is not due to cross-linking polymerization but due to strong molecular interactions between the polymer and monomer molecules. In this work, homogeneous Cp*Ti(OMe)3 catalyst is heterogenized or embedded into sPS prepolymer particles. The embedded catalyst has been tested in a laboratory scale diluent slurry process to illustrate the feasibility of slurry phase polymerization for the synthesis of sPS particles.  相似文献

Three kinds of MgCl2‐supported trivalent titanocene catalyst (Cat. 1: Cp2TiCl2AlCl2/MgCl2, Cat. 2: CpCp*TiCl/MgCl2, Cat. 3: Cp2TiCl/MgCl2) were prepared and tested for propylene polymerization. It was found that Cat. 1, combined with ordinary alkylaluminum as cocatalyst, produced PP containing 31.8 wt % of isotactic PP in fairly good yield. On the other hand, Cats. 2 and 3 hardly showed any activity. The effects of diisopropyldimethoxysilane (DIPDMS) on isospecificity of the Cat. 1 also were investigated. The isotactic index (I.I.) of PP was improved drastically by the addition of DIPDMS as external donor and reached the value as high as 98.4%, even in the absence of any internal donors. © 2000 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.
