Cationic ring‐opening polymerizations of 5‐alkyl‐ or 5,7‐dialkyl‐1,3‐dehydroadamantanes, such as 5‐hexyl‐ ( 4 ), 5‐octyl‐ ( 5 ), 5‐butyl‐7‐isobutyl‐ ( 6 ), 5‐ethyl‐7‐hexyl‐ ( 7 ), and 5‐butyl‐7‐hexyl‐1,3‐dehydroadamantane ( 8 ), were carried out with super Brønsted acids, such as trifluoromethanesulfonic acid or trifluoromethanesulfonimide in CH2Cl2 or n‐heptane. The ring‐opening polymerizations of inverted carbon–carbon bonds in 4–8 proceeded to afford corresponding poly(1,3‐adamantane)s in good to quantitative yields. Poly( 4–8 )s possessing alkyl substituents were soluble in 1,2‐dichlorobenzene, although a nonsubstituted poly(1,3‐adamantane) was not soluble in any organic solvent. In particular, poly( 8 ) exhibited the highest molecular weight at around 7500 g mol?1 and showed excellent solubility in common organic solvents, such as THF, CHCl3, benzene, and hexane. The resulting poly( 4–8 )s containing adamantane‐1,3‐diyl linkages showed good thermal stability, and 10% weight loss temperatures (T10) were observed over 400 °C. © 2013 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. The miktoarm ABC star copolymer with three different branches, polystyrene (PS), poly(1,3‐dioxepane) (PDOP), and poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA), was successfully prepared. PS with two transfer groups, hydroxyl and dithiobenzoate groups [PS‐HECA‐SC(S)Ph], was synthesized by the reaction of a dithiobenzoate group at the end of PS with hydroxyethylene cinnamate (HECA) in tetrahydrofuran solution. Then, the cationic ring‐opening polymerization of 1,3‐dioxepane was initiated by triflic acid in the presence of PS‐HECA‐SC(S)Ph and diblock copolymer, PS‐PDOP, was formed. Finally, the diblock copolymer with the dithiobenzoate group situated between the two blocks was used in the reversible addition–fragmentation transfer (RAFT) process of methyl methacrylate (MMA). The miktoarm ABC star copolymer S(PS)(PDOP)(PMMA) was characterized by 1H NMR spectroscopy and gel permeation chromatography. © 2003 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The monomer concentration for the cationic ring‐opening polymerization of 2‐ethyl‐2‐oxazoline in N,N‐dimethylacetamide was optimized utilizing high‐throughput experimentation methods. Detailed 1H‐NMR spectroscopic investigations were performed to understand the mechanistic aspects of the observed concentration effects. Finally, the improved polymerization concentration was applied for the synthesis of higher molecular weight (> 10,000 Da) poly(2‐ethyl‐2‐oxazoline)s. © 2005 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. For the purpose of reducing the induction period of the ring‐opening polymerization of N‐methyl‐1,3‐benzoxazines, several urethanes were examined as promoters. The examined promoters 3a – d were the adducts of resorcinol and phenyl isocyanate, that of bisphenol A and phenyl isocyanate, that of resorcinol and butyl isocyanate, and that of 1,3‐propanediol and phenyl isocyanate, respectively. The aromatic urethanes 3a and 3b , which were adducts of the phenolic compounds and phenyl isocyanate, exhibited significant promoting effects. © 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The cationic ring‐opening multibranching polymerization of 2‐hydroxymethyloxetane ( 1 ) as a novel latent AB2‐type monomer was carried out using trifluoromethane sulfonic acid or trifluoroboron diethyl etherate by a slow‐monomer‐addition (SMA) method. The polymer yield of poly‐1 ranged from ca. 58–88%, which increase with the increasing monomer addition time on the SMA method. The absolute molecular weights (Mw,MALLS) and the polydispersities of poly‐1 were in the range of 8,000–43,500 and 1.45–4.53, respectively, which also increased with the increasing monomer addition time. The Mark‐Houwink‐Sakurada exponents α in 0.2 M NaNO3 aq. were determined to be 0.02–0.25 for poly‐1 , indicating that poly‐1 has compact forms in the solution because of the highly branched structure. The degree of the branching value of poly‐1 , which was calculated by Frey's equation, ranged from ca. 0.50 to 0.58, which increased with the increasing monomer addition time. The steady shear flow of poly‐1 in aqueous solution exhibited a Newtonian behavior with steady shear viscosities independent of the shear rate. The results of the MALLS, NMR, and viscosity measurements indicated that poly‐1 is composed of a highly branched structure, i.e., the hyperbranched poly (2‐hydroxymethyloxetane). © 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A dual initiator (4‐hydroxy‐butyl‐2‐bromoisobutyrate), that is, a molecule containing two functional groups capable of initiating two polymerizations occurring by different mechanisms, has been prepared. It has been used for the sequential two‐step synthesis of well‐defined block copolymers of polystyrene (PS) and poly(tetrahydrofuran) (PTHF) by atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP) and cationic ring‐opening polymerization (CROP). This dual initiator contains a bromoisobutyrate group, which is an efficient initiator for the ATRP of styrene in combination with the Cu(0)/Cu(II)/N,N,N,N,N″‐pentamethyldiethylenetriamine catalyst system. In this way, PS with hydroxyl groups (PS‐OH) is formed. The in situ reaction of the hydroxyl groups originating from the dual initiator with trifluoromethane sulfonic anhydride gives a triflate ester initiating group for the CROP of tetrahydrofuran (THF), leading to PTHF with a tertiary bromide end group (PTHF‐Br). PS‐OH and PTHF‐Br homopolymers have been applied as macroinitiators for the CROP of THF and the ATRP of styrene, respectively. PS‐OH, used as a macroinitiator, results in a mixture of the block copolymer and remaining macroinitiator. With PTHF‐Br as a macroinitiator for the ATRP of styrene, well‐defined PTHF‐b‐PS block copolymers can be prepared. The efficiency of PS‐OH or PTHF‐Br as a macroinitiator has been investigated with matrix‐assisted laser desorption/ionization time‐of‐flight spectroscopy, gel permeation chromatography, and NMR. © 2003 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Thiophenol and p‐nitrothiophenol were evaluated as promoters for the ring opening polymerization of benzoxazine. The ring‐opening polymerization of p‐cresol type monofunctional N‐phenyl benzoxazine 1a with 10 mol % of thiophenols proceeded at 150 °C, leading to the high conversion of 1a more than 95% within 5 h, whereas the polymerization of 1a without thiophenols did not proceed under the same conditions. The promotion effect of the thiophenols on curing of bisphenol‐A type N‐phenyl benzoxazine 1b was also investigated. In the differential scanning calorimetric (DSC) analysis of the polymerization of 1b at 150 °C without using any promoters, an exothermic peak attributable to the ring‐opening reaction of benzoxazine was observed after 8 h. In contrast, in the DSC analysis of the polymerization of 1b with addition 20 mol % of p‐nitrothiophenol, an exothermic peak was observed within 2 h, to clarify the significant promoting effect of p‐nitrothiophenol. © 2014 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A straightforward strategy for the synthesis and functionalization of polyurethanes (PUs) via the use of alkyne‐functionalized polytetrahydrofuran (PTHF) diols is described. The alkyne groups have been introduced into the PTHF chains by the cationic ring‐opening copolymerization of tetrahydrofuran and glycidyl propargyl ether. These PTHF prepolymers were combined with 1,4‐butanediol and hexamethylene diisocyanate for the synthesis of linear PUs with latent functionalization sites. The polyether segments of the PUs have then been coupled with several types of functionalized azides by the copper‐catalyzed azide‐alkyne “click” chemistry, for example with phosphonium containing azides for their antibacterial properties. © 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Pseudo block and triblock copolymers were synthesized by the cationic ring‐opening copolymerization of 1,5,7,11‐tetraoxaspiro[5.5]undecane (SOC1) with trimethylene oxide (OX) via one‐shot and two‐shot procedures, respectively. When SOC1 and OX were copolymerized cationically with boron trifluoride etherate (BF3OEt2) as an initiator in CH2Cl2 at 25 °C, OX was consumed faster than SOC1. SOC1 was polymerized from the OX‐rich gradient copolymer produced in the initial stage of the copolymerization to afford the corresponding pseudo block copolymer, poly [(OX‐grad‐SOC1)‐b‐SOC1]. We also succeeded in the synthesis of a pseudo triblock copolymer by the addition of OX during the course of the polymerization of SOC1 before its complete consumption, which provided the corresponding pseudo triblock copolymer, poly[SOC1‐b‐(OX‐grad‐SOC1)‐b‐SOC1]. © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Thermally induced ring‐opening polymerization of monofunctional N‐allyl‐1,3‐benzoxazine 1a was compared with that of N‐(n‐propyl)‐1,3‐benzoxazine 1b to clarify an unexpected effect of allyl group to promote the polymerization, that is, in spite of the comparable bulkiness of allyl group to n‐propyl group, the polymerization of 1a was much faster than that of 1b . Such a difference in polymerization rate was also observed similarly in the comparison of thermally induced polymerization of a bifunctional N‐allyl‐benzoxazine 2a with that of a bifunctional N‐(n‐propyl) analogue 2b . These observations implied a certain contribution of an electron‐rich C? C double bond of the N‐ally group to promotion of the ring‐opening reaction of 1,3‐benzoxazine into the corresponding zwitterionic species, which would involve a mechanism to stabilize the cationic part of the zwitterionic species based on “neighboring group participation” of the C? C double bond. © 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Polym Sci Part A: Polym Chem, 2010  相似文献

This work deals with the cationic ring‐opening polymerization of cyclic thiocarbonates with a norbornene or norbornane moiety, that is, 5,5‐(bicyclo[2.2.1]hept‐2‐ene‐5,5‐ylidene)‐1,3‐dioxane‐2‐thione ( TC1 ) or 5,5‐(bicyclo[2.2.1]heptane‐5,5‐ylidene)‐1,3‐dioxane‐2‐thione ( TC2 ), respectively. The reaction of TC1 initiated by trifluoromethanesulfonic acid (TfOH), methyl trifluoromethanesulfonate (TfOMe), boron trifluoride etherate (BF3OEt2), or triethyloxonium tetrafluoroborate (Et3OBF4) afforded unidentified products; however, TC1 underwent cationic ring‐opening polymerization with methyl iodide as an initiator to afford polythiocarbonate because the propagating end was stabilized by the covalent‐bonding property. The polymerization of TC2 initiated by TfOH, TfOMe, BF3OEt2, or Et3OBF4 afforded polythiocarbonate with good solubility in common organic solvents and a narrow molecular weight distribution because of the absence of a double‐bond moiety. © 2002 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Copolymers of 2‐methylene‐1,3‐dioxepane (MDO) and methyl acrylate (MA) containing ester units both in the backbone and as pendant groups were synthesized by free‐radical copolymerization. The influence of reaction conditions such as the polymerization time, temperature, initiator concentration, and comonomer feed ratio on the yield, molecular weight, and copolymer composition was investigated. The structure of the copolymers was confirmed by 1H NMR, 13C NMR, and IR spectroscopy. Differential scanning calorimetry indicated that the copolymers had a random structure. An NMR study showed that hydrogen transfer occurred during the copolymerization. The reactivity ratios of the comonomers were rMDO = 0.0235 and rMA = 26.535. The enzymatic degradation of the copolymers obtained was carried out in the presence of proteinase K or a crude enzyme extracted from earthworms. The experimental results showed that the higher ester molar percentage in the backbone caused a faster degradation rate. © 2003 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Acetylacetonato (acac) complexes of transition metals in the 4th period were examined as catalysts for the ring‐opening polymerization of benzoxazine. This examination revealed that acac complexes of manganese, iron, and cobalt exhibited the highest activity, which was comparable or slightly higher than that exhibited by p‐toluenesulfonic acid. By replacing acac ligand by hexafluoroacetylacetonato (F6‐acac) ligand, the activity of manganese and iron complexes was remarkably enhanced. These metal F6‐acac complexes were tolerant to moisture to allow their use under air without special caution. Another advantage was their negligible effect to promote unfavorable weight loss during the polymerization. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Polym Sci Part A: Polym Chem 48: 479–484, 2010  相似文献

p‐Toluenesulfonic acid (TsOH) and several alkyl p‐toluenesulfonates, that is, methyl p‐toluenesulfonate (TsOMe), cyclohexyl p‐toluenesulfonate (TsOCH), and neopentyl p‐toluenesulfonate (TsONP), were evaluated as initiators for the ring‐opening polymerization of benzoxazines. TsOH and TsOMe were highly efficient initiators that induced the polymerization at 60 and 80 °C, respectively. In contrast, TsOCH and TsONP did not initiate the polymerization below 100 °C, while they induced the polymerization at elevated temperatures, 120 and 150 °C, respectively. When TsOCH was used as an initiator, the corresponding polymerization rate was comparable to that observed for the polymerization with using TsOH as an initiator. These results suggested that neutral TsOCH and TsONP can be regarded as “thermally latent initiators,” which underwent the thermal dissociation at the elevated temperatures to generate the corresponding alkyl cations and/or TsOH as the initiators of the polymerization. © 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The ring‐opening polymerization (ROP) of p‐dioxanone (PDO) under microwave irradiation with triethylaluminum (AlEt3) or tin powder as catalyst was investigated. When the ROP of PDO was catalyzed by AlEt3, the viscosity‐average molecular weight (Mv) of poly(p‐dioxanone) (PPDO) reached 317,000 g mol?1 only in 30 min, and the yield of PPDO achieved 96.0% at 80 °C. Tin powder was successfully used as catalyst for synthesizing PPDO by microwave heating, and PPDO with Mv of 106,000 g mol?1 was obtained at 100 °C in 210 min. Microwave heating accelerated the ROP of PDO catalyzed by AlEt3 or tin powder, compared with the conventional heating method. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The triblock copolymer poly[6,8‐dioxabicyclo[3.2.1]octane‐b‐(ethylene glycol)‐b‐6,8‐dioxabicyclo[3.2.1]octane] was prepared by the controlled cationic ring‐opening polymerization of 6,8‐dioxabicyclo[3.2.1]octane (6,8‐DBO) from a macroinitiator. The macroinitiator, poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG) di(1‐chloroethyl ether), was prepared via the addition of HCl to PEG divinyl ether and was characterized with 13C NMR, 1H NMR, and gel permeation chromatography (GPC). Upon preparation, a small fraction of the chain ends underwent a cyclization reaction to form inactive chain ends. When the macroinitiator was used in polymerizations of 6,8‐DBO with ZnI2 as an activator, linear kinetic plots were observed, a linear increase in the copolymer molecular weight with conversion was seen, and the molecular weight distributions of the copolymer samples remained constant at about 1.40. Confirmation of the triblock structure of the final product was obtained with 1H NMR spectra, 13C DEPT spectra, and GPC chromatograms. © 2000 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. Chemistry of 2‐oxazolines is involved in the polymer synthesis fields of cationic ring‐opening polymerization (CROP) and enzymatic ring‐opening polyaddition (EROPA), although both polymerizations look like a quite different class of reaction. The key for the polymerization to proceed is combination of the catalyst (initiator) and the design of monomers. This article describes recent developments in polymer synthesis via these two kinds of polymerizations to afford various functional polymers having completely different structures, poly(N‐acylethylenimine)s via CROP and 2‐amino‐2‐deoxy sugar unit‐containing oligo and polysaccharides via EROPA, respectively. From the viewpoint of reaction mode, an acid‐catalyzed ring‐opening polyaddition (ROPA) is considered to be a crossing where CROP and EROPA meet. © 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A novel miktofunctional initiator ( 1 ), 2‐hydroxyethyl 3‐[(2‐bromopropanoyl)oxy]‐2‐{[(2‐bromopropanoyl)oxy]methyl}‐2‐methyl‐propanoate, possessing one initiating site for ring‐opening polymerization (ROP) and two initiating sites for atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP), was synthesized in a three‐step reaction sequence. This initiator was first used in the ROP of ?‐caprolactone, and this led to a corresponding polymer with secondary bromide end groups. The obtained poly(?‐caprolactone) (PCL) was then used as a macroinitiator for the ATRP of tert‐butyl acrylate or methyl methacrylate, and this resulted in AB2‐type PCL–[poly(tert‐butyl acrylate)]2 or PCL–[poly(methyl methacrylate)]2 miktoarm star polymers with controlled molecular weights and low polydispersities (weight‐average molecular weight/number‐average molecular weight < 1.23) via the ROP–ATRP sequence. © 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
