The pure‐gas sorption, diffusion, and permeation properties of ethylbenzene in poly(dimethylsiloxane) (PDMS) are reported at 35, 45, and 55 °C and at pressures ranging from 0 to 4.4 cmHg. Additionally, mixed‐gas ethylbenzene/N2 permeability properties at 35 °C, a total feed pressure of 10 atm, and a permeate pressure of 1 atm are reported. Ethylbenzene solubility increases with increasing penetrant relative pressure and can be described by the Flory–Rehner model with an interaction parameter of 0.24 ± 0.02. At a fixed relative pressure, ethylbenzene solubility decreases with increasing temperature, and the enthalpy of sorption is −41.4 ± 0.3 kJ/mol, which is independent of ethylbenzene concentration and essentially equal to the enthalpy of condensation of pure ethylbenzene. Ethylbenzene diffusion coefficients decrease with increasing concentration at 35 °C. The activation energy of ethylbenzene diffusion in PDMS at infinite dilution is 49 ± 6 kJ/mol. The ethylbenzene activation energies of permeation decrease from near 0 to −34 ± 7 kJ/mol as concentration increases, whereas the activation energy of permeation for pure N2 is 8 ± 2 kJ/mol. At 35 °C, ethylbenzene and N2 permeability coefficients determined from pure‐gas permeation experiments are similar to those obtained from mixed‐gas permeation experiments, and ethylbenzene/N2 selectivity values as high as 800 were observed. © 2000 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. Pure gas solubility and permeability of H2, O2, N2, CO2, CH4, C2H6, C3H8, CF4, C2F6, and C3F8 in poly(1‐trimethylsilyl‐1‐propyne) (PTMSP) were determined as a function of pressure at 35°C. Permeability coefficients of the perfluorinated penetrants are approximately an order of magnitude lower than those of their hydrocarbon analogs, and lower even than those of the permanent gases. In striking contrast to hydrocarbon penetrants, PTMSP permeability to fluorocarbon penetrants decreases with increasing penetrant size. This unusual size‐sieving behavior in PTMSP is attributed to low perfluorocarbon solubilities in PTMSP coupled with low diffusion coefficients relative to those of their hydrocarbon analogs. In general, perfluorocarbon penetrants are less soluble than their hydrocarbon analogs in PTMSP. The difference in hydrocarbon and perfluorocarbon solubilities in high free volume, hydrocarbon‐rich PTMSP is much smaller than in hydrocarbon liquids and liquidlike polydimethylsiloxane. The low solubility of perfluorocarbon penetrants is ascribed to the large size of the fluorocarbons, which inhibits their dissolution into the densified regions of the polymer matrix and reduces the number of penetrant molecules that can be accommodated in Langmuir sites. From the permeability and sorption data, diffusion coefficients were calculated as a function of penetrant concentration. With the exception of H2 and the C3 analogs, all of the penetrants exhibit a maximum in their concentration‐dependent diffusion coefficients. Resolution of diffusion coefficients into a mobility factor and a thermodynamic factor reveals that it is the interplay between these two terms that causes the maxima. The mobility of the smaller penetrants (H2, O2, N2, CH4, and CO2) decreases monotonically with increasing penetrant concentration, suggesting that the net free volume of the polymer–penetrant mixture decreases as additional penetrant is added to PTMSP. For larger penetrants mobility either: (1) remains constant at low concentrations and then decreases at higher penetrant concentrations (C2H6, CF4, and C2F6); (2) remains constant for all concentrations examined (C3H8); or (3) increases monotonically with increasing penetrant concentration (C3F8). Presumably these results reflect the varying effects of these penetrants on the net free volume of the polymer–penetrant system. © 2000 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. The polymerization of 1,2‐disubstituted acetylenes [1‐(trimethylgermyl)‐1‐propyne and 1‐(trimethylsilyl)‐1‐propyne] initiated by Nb‐ and Ta‐based catalytic systems was studied within a wide temperature range (?10 to +80 °C) with solvents (cyclohexane, CCl4, toluene, anisol, and n‐chlorobutane) with variable dielectric constants (2.023–7.390). Conditions ensuring the synthesis of poly[1‐(trimethylsilyl)‐1‐propyne] (PTMSP) containing 20–80% cis units and poly[1‐(trimethylgermyl)‐1‐propyne] (PTMGP) containing 3–65% cis units were determined. The PTMSP and PTMGP samples were amorphous, exhibited a two‐phase structure characterized by the presence of less ordered regions and regions with an enhanced level of ordering, and differed in solubility. A correlation was found between the cis/trans ratio and the morphology, the geometrical density of PTMSP and PTMGP films, and the gas permeability of the polymers. The gas permeability and solubility behavior of PTMSP and PTMGP were examined in terms of the molecular characteristics of the polymer samples (the thermodynamic Kuhn segment and the Kerr electrooptic effect). It was demonstrated that the gas permeability, as well as the solubility of the polymers, was defined by their supramolecular ordering, which depended on the lengths of continuous sequences composed of units of analogous microstructures and on the flexibility of macrochains. © 2003 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A new preconcentration method is presented for lead on TAN‐loaded polyurethane foam (PUF) and its measurement by differential pulse anodic stripping voltammetry (DPASV). The optimum sorption conditions of 1.29 × 10?5 M solution of Pb(II) ions on TAN‐loaded PUF were investigated. The maximum sorption was observed at pH 7 with 20 minutes equilibrated time on 7.25 mg mL?1 of TAN‐loaded foam. The kinetic study indicates that the overall sorption process was controlled by the intra‐particle diffusion process. The validity of Freundlich, Langmuir and Dubinin ‐ Radushkevich adsorption isotherms were tested. The Freundlich constants 1/n and KF are evaluated to be 0.45 ±0.04 and (1.03 +0.61) × 10?3 mol g?1, respectively. The monolayer sorption capacity and adsorption constant related to the Langmuir isotherm are (1.38 ± 0.08) × 10?5 mol g?1 and (1.46 ± 0.27) × 105 L mol?1, respectively. The mean free energy of Pb(II) ions sorption on‐TAN loaded PUF is 11.04 ± 0.28 kJ mol?1 indicating chemisorption phenomena. The effect of temperature on the sorption yields thermodynamics parameters of ΔH, ΔS and ΔG at 298 K that are 15.0 ± 1.4 kJ mol?1, 74 ±5 J mol?1 K?1 and ‐7.37 ± 0.28 kJ mol?1, respectively. The positive values of enthalpy (ΔH) and entropy (ΔS) indicate the endothermic sorption and stability of the sorbed complexes are entropy driven. However, the negative value of Gibb's free energy (ΔG) indicates the spontaneous nature of sorption. On the basis of these data, the sorption mechanism has been postulated. The effect of different foreign ions on the sorption and desorption studies were also carried out. The method was successfully applied for the determination of lead from different water samples at ng levels.  相似文献

The polymerization of N‐methyl‐α‐fluoroacrylamide (NMFAm) initiated with dimethyl 2,2′‐azobisisobutyrate (MAIB) in benzene was studied kinetically and with electron spin resonance. The polymerization proceeded heterogeneously with the highly efficient formation of long‐lived poly(NMFAm) radicals. The overall activation energy of the polymerization was 111 kJ/mol. The polymerization rate (Rp) at 50 °C is given by Rp = k[MAIB]0.75±0.05 [NMFAm]0.44±0.05. The concentration of the long‐lived polymer radical increased linearly with time. The formation rate (Rp?) of the long‐lived polymer radical at 50 °C is expressed by Rp? = k[MAIB]1.0±0.1 [NMFAm]0±0.1. The overall activation energy of the long‐lived radical formation was 128 kJ/mol, which agreed with the energy of initiation (129 kJ/mol), which was separately estimated. A comparison of Rp? with the initiation rate led to the conclusion that 1‐methoxycarbonyl‐1‐methylethyl radicals (primary radicals from MAIB), escaping from the solvent cage, were quantitatively converted into the long‐lived poly(NMFAm) radicals. Thus, this polymerization involves completely unimolecular termination due to polymer radical occlusion. 1H NMR‐determined tacticities of resulting poly(NMFAm) were estimated to be rr = 0.34, mr = 0.48, and mm = 0.18. The copolymerization of NMFAm(M1) and St(M2) with MAIB at 50 °C in benzene gave monomer reactivity ratios of r1 = 0.61 and r2 = 1.79. © 2001 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. The gas permeation properties of poly(1-trimethylsilyl-1-propyne) (PTMSP), poly(1-phenyl-1-propyne) (PPP), and blends of PTMSP and PPP have been determined with hydrocarbon/hydrogen mixtures. For a glassy polymer, PTMSP has unusual gas permeation properties which result from its very high free volume. Transport in PPP is similar to that observed in conventional, low-free-volume glassy polymers. In experiments with n-butane/hydrogen gas mixtures, PTMSP and PTMSP/PPP blend membranes were more permeable to n-butane than to hydrogen. PPP, on the other hand, was more permeable to hydrogen than to n-butane. As the PTMSP composition in the blend increased from 0 to 100%, n-butane permeability increased by a factor of 2600, and n-butane/hydrogen selectivity increased from 0.4 to 24. Thus, both hydrocarbon permeability and hydrocarbon/hydrogen selectivity increase with the PTMSP content in the blend. The selectivities measured with gas mixtures were markedly higher than selectivities calculated from the corresponding ratio of pure gas permeabilities. The difference between mixed gas and pure gas selectivity becomes more pronounced as the PTMSP content in the blend increases. The mixed gas selectivities are higher than pure gas selectivities because the hydrogen permeability in the mixture is much lower than the pure hydrogen permeability. For example, the hydrogen permeability in PTMSP decreased by a factor of 20 as the relative propane pressure (p/psat) in propane/hydrogen mixtures increased from 0 to 0.8. This marked reduction in permanent gas permeability in the presence of a more condensable hydrocarbon component is reminiscent of blocking of permanent gas transport in microporous materials by preferential sorption of the condensable component in the pores. The permeability of PTMSP to a five-component hydrocarbon/hydrogen mixture, similar to that found in refinery waste gas, was determined and compared with published permeation results for a 6-Å microporous carbon membrane. PTMSP exhibited lower selectivities than those of the carbon membrane, but permeability coefficients in PTMSP were nearly three orders of magnitude higher. © 1996 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.  相似文献

Highly permeable glassy polymeric membranes based on poly (1‐trimethylsilyl‐1‐propyne) (PTMSP) and a polymer of intrinsic porosity (PIM‐1) were investigated for water sorption, water permeability and the separation of CO2 from N2 under humid mixed gas conditions. The water sorption isotherms for both materials followed behavior indicative of multilayer adsorption within the microvoids, with PIM‐1 registering a significant water uptake at very high water activities. Analysis of the sorption isotherms using a modified dual sorption model which accounts for such multilayer effects gave Langmuir affinity constants more consistent with lighter gases than the use of the standard dual mode approach. The water permeability through PTMSP and PIM‐1 was comparable over the water activities studied, and could be successfully model ed through a dual mode sorption model with a concentration dependent diffusivity. The water permeability through both membranes as a function of temperature was also measured, and found to be at a minimum at 80 ° C for PTMSP and 70 °C for PIM‐1. This temperature dependence is a function of reducing water solubility in both membranes with increasing temperature countered by increasing water diffusivity. The CO2 ‐ N2 mixed gas permeabilities through PTMSP and PIM‐1 were also measured and model ed through dual mode sorption theory. Introducing water vapour further reduced both the CO2 and N2 permeabilities. The plasticization potential of water in PTMSP was determined and indicated water swelled the membrane increasing CO2 and N2 diffusivity, while for PIM‐1 a negative potential implied that water filling of the microvoids hampered CO2 and N2 diffusion through the membrane. © 2015 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Polymerization of 1‐(trimethylgermyl)‐1‐propyne (TMGP) with TaCl5 and NbCl5 produced a colorless polymer in high yields, whose molecular weight reached about 3 × 105–14 × 105. The molecular weight distribution of the poly(TMGP) with NbCl5 in cyclohexane was somewhat narrow (Mw /Mn = ∼1.54). The TaCl5‐based poly(TMGP) dissolved in toluene, chloroform, cyclohexane, carbon disulfide, carbon tetrachloride, tetrahydrofuran, hexane, and so forth; the NbCl5‐based polymer was less soluble and did not dissolve in hexane, despite its lower molecular weight. The cis contents of the NbCl5‐ and TaCl5‐based poly(TMGP)s determined by 13C NMR were 67 ± 5 and 28 ± 3%, respectively. The onset temperature of the weight loss of poly(TMGP) in air was 350 °C, indicating fair thermal stability. The oxygen permeability coefficient (P) of poly(TMGP) at 25 °C was 7800 barrer after the methanol conditioning, and the permeability was fairly stable to aging. © 2000 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. The products of the gas‐phase reactions of OH radicals with 1‐pentene and 2‐methyl‐2‐propen‐1‐ol (221MPO) at T=298±2 K and atmospheric pressure were investigated by using a 4500 L atmospheric simulation chamber that was built especially for this work. The molar yield of butyraldehyde was 0.74±0.12 mol for the reaction of 1‐pentene. This work provides the first product molar yield determination of formaldehyde (0.82±0.12 mol), 1‐hydroxypropan‐2‐one (0.84±0.13 mol), and methacrolein (0.078±0.012 mol) from the reaction of 221MPO with OH radicals. The mechanism of this reaction is discussed in relation to the experimental results. Additionally, taking into consideration the complex mechanism, the rate coefficients of the reactions of OH with formaldehyde, 1‐hydroxypropan‐2‐one, and methacrolein were derived at atmospheric pressure and T=298±2 K.; the obtained values were (8.9±1.6)×10?12, (2.4±1.4)×10?12, and (22.9±2.3)×10?12 cm3 molecule?1 s?1, respectively.  相似文献

The sorption and permeation of pentane, hexane, and toluene through highly permeable polymer of intrinsic microporosity (PIM‐1) membranes were investigated. It was established that the hydrocarbons sorbed strongly within the micro‐void regions of the PIM‐1 membrane. The sorption concentration was similar for the paraffins, pentane and hexane, but greater for aromatic toluene at high vapor activities. The magnitude of the hydrocarbon permeability was associated with the critical temperature of the hydrocarbon. The PIM‐1 membrane displayed selectivity for the three hydrocarbons over CO2. As a consequence, the presence of the three hydrocarbons dramatically reduced the permeability of CO2 and N2 under mixed gas–vapor conditions to 68%–95% below the dry gas value. For all three hydrocarbons the N2 permeability was more strongly impacted than CO2 permeability, and hence the ideal CO2/N2 selectivity of PIM‐1 increased. It was determined that CO2 and N2 solubility decreased because of hydrocarbon competitive sorption while CO2 and N2 diffusivity also decreased because of anti‐plasticization, which was due to the presence of hydrocarbon clusters within the membrane structure. There was a clear correlation between the magnitude of anti‐plasticization and the critical temperature of the hydrocarbon. © 2015 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Polym. Sci., Part B: Polym. Two MOFs of [SrII(5‐NO2‐BDC)(H2O)6] ( 1 ) and [BaII(5‐NO2‐BDC)(H2O)6] ( 2 ) have been synthesized in water using alkaline earth metal salts and the rigid organic ligand 5‐NO2‐H2BDC. The compounds were characterized by elemental analysis, infrared spectrum, thermal analysis, and X‐ray crystallography. Crystal structure analyses have shown that the two complexes are isostructural as evidenced by IR spectra and TG‐DTA. Both compounds present three‐dimensional frameworks built up from infinite chains of edge‐sharing twelve‐membered rings through O–H···O hydrogen bonds. The specific heat capacities of the title complexes have been determined by an improved RD496‐III microcalorimeter with the values of (109.29 ± 0.693) J mol−1 K−1 and (81.162 ± 0.858) J mol−1 K−1 at 298.15 K, and the molar enthalpy changes of the formation reactions of complexes at 298.15 K were calculated as (4.897 ± 0.008) kJ mol−1 and (2.617 ± 0.009) kJ mol−1, respectively.  相似文献

The gas phase elimination kinetics of the title compound was studied over the temperature range of 260.1–315.0°C and pressure range of 20–70 Torr. This elimination, in seasoned static reaction system and in the presence of at least fourfold of the free radical inhibitor toluene, is homogeneous, unimolecular and follows a first‐order rate law. The reaction yielded mainly benzaldehyde, CO, and HBr, and small amounts of benzylbromide and CO2. The observed rate coefficients are expressed by the following Arrhenius equations: For benzaldehyde formation: log k1 (s−1) = (12.23 ± 0.26) − (164.9 ± 2.7) kJ mol−1 (2.303 RT)−1 For benzylbromide formation: log k1 (s−1) = (13.82 ± 0.50) − (192.8 ± 5.5) kJ mol−1 (2.303 RT)−1 The mechanisms are believed to proceed through a semi‐polar five‐membered cyclic transition state for the benzaldehyde formation, while a four‐centered cyclic transition state for benzylbromide formation. © 1999 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. Metal–organic frameworks (MOFs) based on multidentate N‐heterocyclic ligands involving imidazole, triazole, tetrazole, benzimidazole, benzotriazole or pyridine present intriguing molecular topologies and have potential applications in ion exchange, magnetism, gas sorption and storage, catalysis, optics and biomedicine. The 2‐[(1H‐1,2,4‐triazol‐1‐yl)methyl]‐1H‐benzimidazole (tmb) ligand has four potential N‐atom donors and can act in monodentate, chelating, bridging and tridentate coordination modes in the construction of complexes, and can also act as both a hydrogen‐bond donor and acceptor. In addition, the tmb ligand can adopt different coordination conformations, resulting in complexes with helical structures due to the presence of the flexible methylene spacer. A new three‐dimensional coordination polymer, poly[[bis(μ2‐benzene‐1,4‐dicarboxylato)‐κ4O1,O1′:O4,O4′2O1:O4‐bis{μ2‐2‐[(1H‐1,2,4‐triazol‐1‐yl)methyl‐κN4]‐1H‐benzimidazole‐κN3}dizinc(II)] trihydrate], {[Zn(C8H4O4)(C10H9N5)]·1.5H2O}n, has been synthesized by the reaction of ZnCl2 with tmb and benzene‐1,4‐dicarboxylic acid (H2bdic) under solvothermal conditions. There are two crystallographically distinct bdic2− ligands [bdic2−(A) and bdic2−(B)] in the structure which adopt different coordination modes. The ZnII ions are bridged by tmb ligands, leading to one‐dimensional helical chains with different handedness, and adjacent helices are linked by bdic2−(A) ligands, forming a two‐dimensional network structure. The two‐dimensional layers are further connected by bdic2−(B) ligands, resulting in a three‐dimensional framework with the topological notation 66. The IR spectra and thermogravimetric curves are consistent with the results of the X‐ray crystal structure analysis and the title polymer exhibits good fluorescence in the solid state at room temperature.  相似文献

The gas‐phase elimination kinetics of the above‐mentioned compounds were determined in a static reaction system over the temperature range of 369–450.3°C and pressure range of 29–103.5 Torr. The reactions are homogeneous, unimolecular, and obey a first‐order rate law. The rate coefficients are given by the following Arrhenius expressions: ethyl 3‐(piperidin‐1‐yl) propionate, log k1(s?1) = (12.79 ± 0.16) ? (199.7 ± 2.0) kJ mol?1 (2.303 RT)?1; ethyl 1‐methylpiperidine‐3‐carboxylate, log k1(s?1) = (13.07 ± 0.12)–(212.8 ± 1.6) kJ mol?1 (2.303 RT)?1; ethyl piperidine‐3‐carboxylate, log k1(s?1) = (13.12 ± 0.13) ? (210.4 ± 1.7) kJ mol?1 (2.303 RT)?1; and 3‐piperidine carboxylic acid, log k1(s?1) = (14.24 ± 0.17) ? (234.4 ± 2.2) kJ mol?1 (2.303 RT)?1. The first step of decomposition of these esters is the formation of the corresponding carboxylic acids and ethylene through a concerted six‐membered cyclic transition state type of mechanism. The intermediate β‐amino acids decarboxylate as the α‐amino acids but in terms of a semipolar six‐membered cyclic transition state mechanism. © 2005 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The structure indicates that in‐situ decarboxylation of H3cpimda occurred during the synthesis process. The asymmetric unit consists of two Cd2+ centres, one 4‐carboxy‐1‐(4‐carboxylatobenzyl)‐2‐propyl‐1H‐imidazole‐5‐carboxylate (Hcpimda2−) anion, one 1‐(4‐carboxylatobenzyl)‐2‐propyl‐1H‐imidazole‐4‐carboxylate (cpima2−) anion, one coordinated water molecule and one lattice water molecule. One Cd2+ centre, i.e. Cd1, is hexacoordinated and displays a slightly distorted octahedral CdN2O4 geometry. The other Cd centre, i.e. Cd2, is coordinated by seven O atoms originating from one Hcpimda2− ligand and three cpima2− ligands. This Cd2+ centre can be described as having a distorted capped octahedral coordination geometry. Two carboxylate groups of the benzoate moieties of two cpima2− ligands bridge between Cd2 centres to generate [Cd2O2] units, which are further linked by two cpima2− ligands to produce one‐dimensional (1D) infinite chains based around large 26‐membered rings. Meanwhile, adjacent Cd1 centres are linked by Hcpimda2− ligands to generate 1D zigzag chains. The two types of chains are linked through a μ2‐η2 bidentate bridging mode from an O atom of an imidazole carboxylate unit of cpima2− to give a two‐dimensional (2D) coordination polymer. The simplified 2D net structure can be described as a 3,6‐coordinated net which has a (43)2(46.66.83) topology. Furthermore, the FT–IR spectroscopic properties, photoluminescence properties, powder X‐ray diffraction (PXRD) pattern and thermogravimetric behaviour of the polymer have been investigated.  相似文献

In the title compound, [Mn(C5H2N2O4)(C12H9N3)2]·H2O, the MnII centre is surrounded by three bidentate chelating ligands, namely, one 6‐oxido‐2‐oxo‐1,2‐dihydropyrimidine‐5‐carboxylate (or uracil‐5‐carboxylate, Huca2−) ligand [Mn—O = 2.136 (2) and 2.156 (3) Å] and two 2‐(2‐pyridyl)‐1H‐benzimidazole (Hpybim) ligands [Mn—N = 2.213 (3)–2.331 (3) Å], and it displays a severely distorted octahedral geometry, with cis angles ranging from 73.05 (10) to 105.77 (10)°. Intermolecular N—H...O hydrogen bonds both between the Hpybim and the Huca2− ligands and between the Huca2− ligands link the molecules into infinite chains. The lattice water molecule acts as a hydrogen‐bond donor to form double O...H—O—H...O hydrogen bonds with the Huca2− O atoms, crosslinking the chains to afford an infinite two‐dimensional sheet; a third hydrogen bond (N—H...O) formed by the water molecule as a hydrogen‐bond acceptor and a Hpybim N atom further links these sheets to yield a three‐dimensional supramolecular framework. Possible partial π–π stacking interactions involving the Hpybim rings are also observed in the crystal structure.  相似文献
