The electrons bound to the surface of liquid dielectrics by image forces are described as a two-dimensional, classical, one-component plasma with inverse distance interactions. Exact expressions for the collective modes and the dynamic structure factor are obtained from first principles in the limit of long wavelengths. The differences and analogies with uncharged particle fluids and with the three-dimensional one-component plasma are explicitly displayed. The previously used mean-field approximation is shown not to describe weakly coupled systems and to be inadequate in the long-wavelength region.  相似文献

We investigate the optical Rabi oscillations in a dual-mode slab waveguide that undergoes a spatial–temporal refractive index modulation. Frequency conversion is induced during Rabi oscillations since dynamic modulation is employed. We also show that the contrast of Rabi oscillations can be controlled by the initial phase of dynamic modulation, which can be tuned arbitrarily from zero to unity as the phase varies. The contrast of zero corresponds to the dynamic supermodes and unity refers to complete Rabi oscillations. It suggests that the phase can be a new degree of freedom to control optical Rabi oscillations. This study may find applications in optical sensors, switches and mode converters.  相似文献

We demonstrate an efficient eigendecomposition method for analyzing the guided modes in metal nanoparticle chains. The proposed method has the advantage of simultaneously showing the dispersion relation and the mode quality. It can also separate the material properties from the geometrical properties. Its efficiency therefore does not depend on the complexity of the material polarizability. We used the method to analyze the guided modes of a single and a pair of metal nanoparticle chains. The rigorous dynamic dipole polarizability typically gives a redshift compared with the results obtained from the broadly used quasi-static dipole polarizability with radiation correction.  相似文献

We propose a twisted nematic liquid crystal device that can be operated in dynamic or memory mode, based on the information content to be displayed at that time. +90°-twisted and -90°-twisted states are used as two stable states for operation in the memory mode. A vertical electric field is applied to realize gray levels for operation in the dynamic mode. The proposed device has a memory retention time of over a month for the memory mode and a response time of 12 ms for the dynamic mode. Contrast ratios of over 500∶1 can be obtained in both the dynamic and memory modes.  相似文献

Inhibition of the p53–MDM2 interaction is a new therapeutic strategy to activate the wild-type function of p53 in tumors. Molecular dynamics (MD) simulations and calculations of binding free energies were performed to investigate the binding mechanisms of p53 and two inhibitors PMI and VZV to MDM2. The results show that van der Waals interaction is the main force to control the bindings of ligands to the hydrophobic cleft of MDM2, which basically agrees with the previous calculated and experimental studies. The results from the RMSF calculation, cross-correlation analysis and principal component (PC) analysis prove that the ligand bindings produce a significant effect on the conformation of the binding cleft of MDM2. In addition, the calculations of residue-based free energy decomposition suggest that the CH–CH, CH–π, and π–π interactions dominate the bindings of p53 and inhibitors to MDM2. This study can provide significant help for the design of potent inhibitors targeting the p53–MDM2 interaction.  相似文献

We present a fluid model for geodesic acoustic modes including diamagnetic effects due to inhomogeneous plasma density and temperature. Effects of ion parallel viscosity (pressure anisotropy), which allows to recover exactly the adiabatic index obtained in kinetic theory are considered. We show that diamagnetic effects lead to the positive up-shift of the GAM frequency and appearance of the second (lower frequency) branch related to the drift frequency. The latter is a result of modification of the degenerate (zero frequency) zonal flow branch which acquires a finite frequency or becomes unstable in regions of high temperature gradients.  相似文献

The lossless dielectric waveguide of circular cross section with an index of refraction greater than its surround supports trapped modes in addition to two subclasses of leaky modes: refracting and tunnelling modes. Refracting modes leak because their fields are formed by waves that undergo refraction at the core-cladding interface. Tunnelling modes leak because their fields are formed by waves that undergo a form of electromagnetic tunnelling at the core-cladding interface due to the curvature of its cross section. Tunnelling modes have a very slow leakage compared to refracting modes and are therefore important for the understanding of propagation in multimode, optical waveguides of circular cross section.  相似文献

We studied a novel family of paraxial laser beams forming an overcomplete yet nonorthogonal set of modes. These modes have a singular phase profile and are eigenfunctions of the photon orbital angular momentum. The intensity profile is characterized by a single brilliant ring with the singularity at its center, where the field amplitude vanishes. The complex amplitude is proportional to the degenerate (confluent) hypergeometric function, and therefore we term such beams hypergeometric-Gaussian (HyGG) modes. Unlike the recently introduced hypergeometric modes [Opt. Lett. 32, 742 (2007)], the HyGG modes carry a finite power and have been generated in this work with a liquid-crystal spatial light modulator. We briefly consider some subfamilies of the HyGG modes as the modified Bessel Gaussian modes, the modified exponential Gaussian modes, and the modified Laguerre-Gaussian modes.  相似文献

A new family of paraxial laser beams that form an orthogonal basis is discussed. When propagated in uniform space, these beams preserve their structure to scale. The intensity distribution profile for such beams is similar to that for the Bessel modes, representing a set of alternating bright and dark concentric rings. The complex amplitude of these beams is proportional to the degenerate (confluent) hypergeometric function, and therefore we term such beams hypergeometric (HyG) modes. The HyG modes are generated with a liquid-crystal microdisplay.  相似文献
