Stability of Numerical Methods for Ordinary Differential Equations

Variable stepsize stability results are found for three representative multivalue methods. For the second order BDF method, a best possible result is found for a maximum stepsize ratio that will still guarantee A(0)-stability behaviour. It is found that under this same restriction, A()-stability holds for 70°. For a new two stage two value first order method, which is L-stable for constant stepsize, A(0)-stability is maintained for stepsize ratios as high as aproximately 2.94. For the third order BDF method, a best possible result of (1/2)(1+ ) is found for a ratio bound that will still guarantee zero-stability.     

<Emphasis Type="Italic">p</Emphasis>-Laplace Operator and Diameter of Manifolds

Let be a compact Riemannian manifold without boundary. In this paper, we consider the first nonzero eigenvalue of the p-Laplacian and we prove that the limit of when is 2/d(M), where d(M) is the diameter of M. Moreover, if is an oriented compact hypersurface of the Euclidean space or , we prove an upper bound of in terms of the largest principal curvature κ over M. As applications of these results, we obtain optimal lower bounds of d(M) in terms of the curvature. In particular, we prove that if M is a hypersurface of then: . Geometry of ideal boundaries of geodesic spaces with nonpositive curvature in the sense of Busemann

We establish relations between different approaches to the ideal closure of a geodesic metric space with nonpositive curvature in the sense of Busemann. We construct the counterexample showing that the Busemann ideal closure can differ from the geodesic closure.     

Existence of Solutions for Second Order Partial Neutral Functional Differential Equations

We establish existence of mild solutions for a class of abstract second-order partial neutral functional differential equations with unbounded delay in a Banach space. The work of the second author was supported by FONDECYT-CONICYT, Grants 1050314 and 7050034.     

Lower Semicontinuity and Upper Semicontinuity of the Solution Sets and Approximate Solution Sets of Parametric Multivalued Quasivariational Inequalities

We consider the semicontinuity of the solution set and the approximate solution set of parametric multivalued quasivariational inequalities in topological vector spaces. Three kinds of problems arising from the multivalued situation are investigated. A rather complete picture, which is symmetric for the two kinds of semicontinuity (lower and upper semicontinuity) and for the three kinds of multivalued quasivariational inequality problems, is supplied. Moreover, we use a simple technique to prove the results. The results obtained improve several known ones in the literature. This research was partially supported by the National Basic Research Program in Natural Sciences of Vietnam. The final part of this work was completed during a stay of the first author at the Department of Mathematics, University of Pau, Pau, France, and its hospitality is acknowledged.     

A New Inequality for Weakly （K1, K2）-Quasiregular Mappings

We obtain a new inequality for weakly （K1,K2）-quasiregular mappings by using the McShane extension method. This inequality can be used to derive the self-improving regularity of （K1, K2）-Quasiregular Mappings.     

Stochastic Integrals and Stochastic Differential Equations over the Field of p-Adic Numbers

We construct, for various classes of p-adic-valued functions, stochastic integrals with respect to the Poisson random measure. This leads to the construction of Markov processes over the field of p-adic numbers by means of stochastic differential equations.     

Barrelledness of Spaces with Toeplitz Decompositions

A Toeplitz decomposition of a locally convex space E into subspaces (E_k) with projections (P_k) is a decomposition of every x  E as x = ∑_kP_kx, where ordinary summability has been replaced by summability with respect to an infinite and lower triangular regular matrix. We extend to the setting of Toeplitz decompositions a couple of results about barrelledness of Schauder decompositions. The first result, given for Schauder decompositions by Noll and Stadler, links the barrelledness of a normed space E to the barrelledness of the pieces E_k via the fact that E′ is big enough so as to coincide with its summability dual. Our second theorem, given for Schauder decompositions by Dı́az and Miñarro, links the quasibarrelledness of an ₀-quasibarrelled (in particular, (DF)) space E to the quasibarrelledness of the pieces E_k via the fact that the decomposition is simple.

We characterize when weighted (LB)-spaces of holomorphic functions have the dual density condition, when the weights are radial and grow logarithmically.     

Existence Results for Systems of Vector Equilibrium Problems*

On the Existence of Periodic Solutions for a Nonlinear System of Ordinary Differential Equations

Abstract This paper is concerned with the existence of periodic solutions for a nonlinear system of ordinary differential equations. We obtain a Nagumo-type a priori bound for the periodic solutions and then by using this a priori bound we prove the existence of at least one T-periodic solution under some general conditions Research supported by the NNSF of China and the RFDP of China.     

Property (X) for Second-Order Nonlinear Differential Equations of Generalized Euler Type

In this paper the generalized nonlinear Euler differential equation t²k(tu′)u″ + t(f(u)+ k(tu′))u′ + g(u) = 0 is considered. Here the functions f(u), g(u) and k(u) satisfy smoothness conditions which guarantee the uniqueness of solutions of initial value problems, however, no conditions of sub(super) linearity are assumed. We present some necessary and sufficient conditions and some tests for the equivalent planar system to have or fail to have property (X⁺), which is very important for the existence of periodic solutions and oscillation theory.     

The coarse geometric Novikov conjecture for subspaces of non-positively curved manifolds

In this paper, we prove the coarse geometric Novikov conjecture for metric spaces with bounded geometry which admit a coarse embedding into a simply connected complete Riemannian manifold of non-positive sectional curvature.     

Inequalities of Maximum of Partial Sums and Weak Convergence for a Class of Weak Dependent Random Variables

In this paper, we establish a Rosenthal-type inequality of the maximum of partial sums for ρ^- -mixing random fields. As its applications we get the Hájeck -Rènyi inequality and weak convergence of sums of ρ^- -mixing sequence. These results extend related results for NA sequence and p^＊ -mixing random fields,     

On a system of general mixed variational inequalities

In this paper, we introduce and consider a new system of general mixed variational inequalities involving three different operators. Using the resolvent operator technique, we establish the equivalence between the general mixed variational inequalities and the fixed point problems. We use this equivalent formulation to suggest and analyze some new explicit iterative methods for this system of general mixed variational inequalities. We also study the convergence analysis of the new iterative method under certain mild conditions. Since this new system includes the system of mixed variational inequalities involving two operators, variational inequalities and related optimization problems as special cases, results obtained in this paper continue to hold for these problems. Our results can be viewed as a refinement and improvement of the previously known results for variational inequalities.     

Banzhaf Measures for Games with Several Levels of Approval in the Input and Output

An axiomatic characterization of ‘a Banzhaf score’ notion is provided for a class of games called (j,k) simple games with a numeric measure associated to the output set, i.e., games with n players, j ordered qualitative alternatives in the input level and k possible ordered quantitative alternatives in the output. Three Banzhaf measures are also introduced which can be used to determine a player's ‘a priori’ value in such a game. We illustrate by means of several real world examples how to compute these measures.
