In this study, we investigate the heat transfer problem in a viscous fluid over an oscillatory infinite sheet with slip condition. The sheet is moved back and forth in its own plane. The derived problem involves a dimensionless parameter indicating the relative magnitude of frequency to sheet stretching rate. A system of non‐linear partial differential equations is solved numerically using the finite‐difference scheme, in which a coordinate transformation is employed to transform the semi‐infinite physical space to a bounded computational domain. The physical features of interesting parameters on the velocity and temperature distributions are shown graphically and discussed. The values of the skin‐friction coefficient and the local Nusselt number are given in tabular form. Copyright © 2008 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

The aim of the present paper is to study flow and heat transfer characteristics of a viscous Casson thin film flow over an unsteady stretching sheet subject to variable heat flux in the presence of slip velocity condition and viscous dissipation. The governing equations are partial differential equations. They are reduced to a set of highly nonlinear ordinary differential equations by suitable similarity transformations. The resulting similarity equations are solved numerically with a shooting method. Comparisons with previous works are made, and the results are found to be in excellent agreement. In the present work, the effects of the unsteadiness parameter, the Casson parameter, the Eckert number, the slip velocity parameter, and the Prandtl number on flow and heat transfer characteristics are discussed. Also, the local skin-friction coefficient and the local Nusselt number at the stretching sheet are computed and discussed.  相似文献

The present paper deals with the analysis of boundary layer flow and heat transfer of a dusty fluid over a stretching sheet with the effect of non-uniform heat source/sink. Here we consider two types of heating processes namely (i) prescribed surface temperature and (ii) prescribed surface heat flux. The momentum and thermal boundary layer equations of motion are solved numerically using Runge Kutta Fehlberg fourth–fifth order method (RKF45 Method). The effects of fluid particle interaction parameter, Eckert number, Prandtl number, Number of dust particle and non-uniform heat generation/absorption parameter on temperature distribution are analyzed and also the effect of wall temperature gradient function and wall temperature function are tabulated and discussed.  相似文献

The problem of the steady magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) stagnation-point flow of an incompressible viscous fluid over a stretching sheet is studied. The effect of an induced magnetic field is taken into account. The nonlinear partial differential equations are transformed into ordinary differential equations via the similarity transformation. The transformed boundary layer equations are solved numerically using the shooting method. Numerical results are obtained for various magnetic parameters and Prandtl numbers. The effects of the induced magnetic field on the skin friction coefficient, the local Nusselt number, the velocity, and the temperature profiles are presented graphically and discussed in detail.  相似文献

The boundary-layer flow and heat transfer in a viscous fluid containing metallic nanoparticles over a nonlinear stretching sheet are analyzed. The stretching velocity is assumed to vary as a power function of the distance from the origin. The governing partial differential equation and auxiliary conditions are reduced to coupled nonlinear ordinary differential equations with the appropriate corresponding auxiliary conditions. The resulting nonlinear ordinary differential equations (ODEs) are solved numerically. The effects of various relevant parameters, namely, the Eckert number Ec, the solid volume fraction of the nanoparticles φ, and the nonlinear stretching parameter n are discussed. The comparison with published results is also presented. Different types of nanoparticles are studied. It is shown that the behavior of the fluid flow changes with the change of the nanoparticles type.  相似文献

This article studies the three-dimensional boundary layer flow of an elasticoviscous luid over a stretching surface. Velocity of the stretching sheet is assumed to be ime-dependent. Effect of mass transfer with higher order chemical reaction is further onsidered. Computations are made by the homptopy analysis method (HAM). Convergence f the obtained series solutions is explicitly analyzed. Variations of embedding arameters on the velocity and concentration are graphically discussed. Numerical computations f surface mass transfer are reported. Comparison of the present results with he numerical solutions is also given.  相似文献

An analysis is performed for the unsteady mixed convection flow of an incompressible viscous fluid about a stagnation point on a stretching sheet in the presence of a variable free stream. The equations of motion and energy are transformed into the ordinary differential equations by using similarity transformations. Homotopy analysis method is used for the solution of the governing problem. The results have been discussed by plots. The present values of the function are shown very close to the previous limiting solutions. Copyright © 2011 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

An analysis has been carried out to study the magnetohydrodynamic boundary layer flow and heat transfer characteristics of a laminar liquid film over a flat impermeable stretching sheet in the presence of a non-uniform heat source/sink. The basic unsteady boundary layer equations governing the flow and heat transfer are in the form of partial differential equations. These equations are converted to non-linear ordinary differential equations using similarity transformation. Numerical solutions of the resulting boundary value problem are obtained by the efficient shooting technique. The effects of magnetic and the non-uniform heat source/sink parameters on the dynamics are discussed. Findings of the paper reveal that non-uniform heat sinks are better suited for effective cooling of the stretching sheet. Skin friction coefficient and the local Nusselt number are also explored for typical values of magnetic and non-uniform heat source/sink parameters. The results are in excellent agreement with the earlier published works, under some limiting cases.  相似文献

The aim of the paper is to investigate the effect of heat and mass transfer on the unsteady magnetohydrodynamic free convective flow with Hall current, heat source, and viscous dissipation. The problem is governed by the system of coupled non-linear partial differential equations whose exact solution is difficult to obtain. Therefore, the problem is solved by using the Galerkin finite element method. The effects of the various parameters like Hall current, Eckert number, heat source parameter, Prandtl number, and Schmidt number on the velocity components, the temperature, and the concentration are also examined through graphs.  相似文献

The magnetohydrodynamics flow and heat transfer in a thin liquid film over an unsteady elastic stretching surface are analyzed by the homotopy analysis method. A more general surface temperature is taken into consideration. The effects of various parameters in this study are discussed and presented graphically. The good agreement between the analytic series solutions and the previous numerical results shows the effectiveness of HAM to this problem. Copyright © 2009 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

The flow and heat transfer of an electrically conducting non-Newtonian second grade fluid due to a radially stretching surface with partial slip is considered. The partial slip is controlled by a dimensionless slip factor, which varies between zero (total adhesion) and infinity (full slip). Suitable similarity transformations are used to reduce the resulting highly nonlinear partial differential equations into ordinary differential equations. The issue of paucity of boundary conditions is addressed and an effective numerical scheme is adopted to solve the obtained differential equations even without augmenting any extra boundary conditions. The important findings in this communication are the combined effects of the partial slip, magnetic interaction parameter and the second grade fluid parameter on the velocity and temperature fields. It is interesting to find that the slip increases the momentum and thermal boundary layer thickness. As the slip increases in magnitude, permitting more fluid to slip past the sheet, the skin friction coefficient decreases in magnitude and approaches zero for higher values of the slip parameter, i.e., the fluid behaves as though it were inviscid. The presence of a magnetic field has also substantial effects on velocity and temperature fields.  相似文献

The boundary layer flow and heat transfer analysis of an incompressible viscous fluid for a hyperbolically stretching sheet is presented. The analytical and numerical results are obtained by a series expansion method and a local non-similarity (LNS) method, respectively. The analytical and numerical results for the skin friction and the Nusselt number are calculated and compared with each other. The significant observation is that the momentum and the thermal boundary layer thickness decrease as the distance from the leading edge increases. The well-known solution of linear stretching is found as the leading order solution for the hyperbolic stretching.  相似文献

In this article, we present accurate analytical solutions for boundary layer flow and heat transfer of an incompressible and electrically conducting viscoelastic fluid over a linearly stretching surface subject to a transverse uniform magnetic field using the homotopy analysis method (HAM) for two general types of non-isothermal boundary conditions. In addition, we demonstrate that the previously reported analytical solutions for the temperature field given in terms of Kummer's function do not converge at the boundary. We provide a graphical and numerical demonstration of the convergence of the HAM solutions and tabulate the effects of various parameters on the skin friction coefficient and wall heat transfer.  相似文献

The boundary layer flow of a nanofluid past a stretching/shrinking sheet with hydrodynamic and thermal slip boundary conditions is studied. Numerical solutions to the governing equations are obtained using a shooting method. The results are found for the skin friction coefficient, the local Nusselt number, and the local Sherwood number as well as the velocity, temperature, and concentration profiles for some values of the velocity slip parameter, thermal slip parameter, stretching/shrinking parameter, thermophoresis parameter, and Brownian motion parameter. The results show that the local Nusselt number, which represents the heat transfer rate, is lower for higher values of thermal slip parameter, thermophoresis parameter, and Brownian motion parameter.  相似文献

Summary The modification of an axi-symmetric viscous flow due to a relative rotation of a disk or fluid by a translation of the boundary are studied. The fluid is taken to be compressible and electrically conducting. The equations governing the motion are solved iteratively through a central-difference scheme. The effect of an axial magnetic field and disk temperature on the flow and heat transfer are included in the present analysis. The translation of the disk or fluid generates a velocity field at each plane parallel to the disk (secondary flow). The cartesian components of the velocity due to the secondary flow are oscillatory in nature when a rigid body rotation of the free stream along with a translation of the disk is considered. The magnetic field damps out the velocity field, and reduces the thickness of the boundary layer. The cross component of wall shear due to secondary flow acts in a direction opposite to the rotation of the disk or fluid for all cases of the motion. The rise in disk temperature produces an increment in the magnitude of the wall shear associated with the secondary flow.  相似文献

This paper presents a study of the flow and heat transfer of an incompressible homogeneous second grade fluid past a stretching sheet. The governing partial differential equations are converted into ordinary differential equations by a similarity transformation. The effects of viscous dissipation and work due to deformation are considered in the energy equation and the variations of dimensionless surface temperature and dimensionless surface temperature gradient with various parameters are graphed and tabulated. Two cases are studied, namely, (i) the sheet with constant surface temperature (CST case) and (ii) the sheet with prescribed surface temperature (PST case).  相似文献

In this paper, the unsteady three‐dimensional boundary layer flow due to a stretching surface in a viscous and incompressible micropolar fluid is considered. The partial differential equations governing the unsteady laminar boundary layer flow are solved numerically using an implicit finite‐difference scheme. The numerical solutions are obtained which are uniformly valid for all dimensionless time from initial unsteady‐state flow to final steady‐state flow in the whole spatial region. The equations for the initial unsteady‐state flow are also solved analytically. It is found that there is a smooth transition from the small‐time solution to the large‐time solution. The features of the flow for different values of the governing parameters are analyzed and discussed. The solutions of interest for the skin friction coefficient with various values of the stretching parameter c and material parameter K are presented. The Cattaneo-Christov heat flux in the two-dimensional (2D) flow of a third-grade fluid towards an exponentially stretching sheet is investigated. The energy equation is considered through thermal relaxation. Similarity transformations are accounted to obtain the ordinary differential systems. The converted non-dimensional equations are solved for the series solutions. The convergence analysis of the computed solutions is reported. The graphical results of the velocity and temperature profiles are plotted and elaborated in detail. The results show that the thermal relaxation enhances the temperature gradient while reduces the temperature profile.  相似文献

The numerical analysis of heat transfer of laminar nanofluid flow over a fiat stretching sheet is presented. Two sets of boundary conditions (BCs) axe analyzed, i.e., a constant (Case 1) and a linear streamwise variation of nanopaxticle volume fraction and wall temperature (Case 2). The governing equations and BCs axe reduced to a set of nonlinear ordinary differential equations (ODEs) and the corresponding BCs, respectively. The dependencies of solutions on Prandtl number Pr, Lewis number Le, Brownian motion number Nb, and thermophoresis number Nt are studied in detail. The results show that the reduced Nusselt number and the reduced Sherwood number increase for the BCs of Case 2 compared with Case 1. The increases of Nb, Nt, and Le numbers cause a decrease of the reduced Nusselt number, while the reduced Sherwood number increases with the increase of Nb and Le numbers. For low Prandtl numbers, an increase of Nt number can cause to decrease in the reduced Sherwood number, while it increases for high Prandtl numbers.  相似文献
