We analyze an optical three-port reflection grating by means of a scattering matrix formalism. Amplitude and phase relations among the three ports, i.e., the three orders of diffraction, are derived. Such a grating can be used as an all-reflective, low-loss coupler to Fabry-Perot cavities. We derive the input-output relations of a three-port grating coupled cavity and find distinct properties that are not present in two-port coupled cavities. The cavity relations further reveal that the three-port coupler can be designed such that the additional cavity port interferes destructively. In this case the all-reflective, low-loss, single-end Fabry-Perot cavity becomes equivalent to a standard transmissive, two-port coupled cavity.  相似文献

We design coupled optical microcavities and report directional light emission from high-Q modes for a broad range of refractive indices. The system consists of a circular cavity that provides a high-Q mode in the form of a whispering gallery mode, whereas an adjacent deformed microcavity plays the role of a waveguide or collimator of the light transmitted from the circular cavity. As a result of this very simple, yet robust, concept we obtain high-Q modes with promising directional emission characteristics. No information about phase space is required, and the proposed scheme can be easily realized in experiments.  相似文献

设计了一种低损耗太赫兹双芯光子带隙光纤定向耦合器.采用全矢量有限元法对光纤的耦合特性、损耗和色散进行了理论分析.结果表明,这种光纤定向耦合器在1.55-1.80 THz范围内耦合长度小于1.8 cm,能够实现0.07THz范围内窄带耦合,且其损耗系数低于0.02 cm-1.这种耦合器将在太赫兹窄带滤波、波分复用、开关和偏振分离等技术中有潜在应用价值.  相似文献

A numerical study of the all-optical switching properties of an active nonlinear directional coupler is presented. The switching power is reduced for both CW and soliton inputs because of the gain. The switching properties of the coupler are enhanced for solitons, which switch nearly completely. For ultrashort pulses, the effects of the bandwidth of the gain medium are considered by using a general form for the gain band. The gain spectrum of erbium is also considered as a specific example.  相似文献

We present the results of a study of single-channel and two-channel compressors of microwave pulses, operated at a frequency of 11.4 GHz, in which a high-Q factor storing resonator and a novel plasma switch are used. In the single-channel compressor excited by magnicon radiation at a frequency of 11.4 GHz, 24-MW pulses have been obtained for a compression ratio equal to 8. In the two-channel compressor, coherent composition of pulses with the use of a 3-dB directional coupler has been demonstrated. Compressed pulses with powers of 9 to 11 MW and durations of 50 to 60 ns have been obtained at the incident-power level 1–1.5 MW, which corresponded to the compression ratio k = 8–9.3.  相似文献

为解决传统分支线定向耦合器带宽较窄,且应用到线性化器等微波元件中时受谐波信号影响较大的问题,提出了一个宽带且带有谐波抑制功能的定向耦合器。该定向耦合器在双支节定向耦合器的基础上增加一个支节,可有效地提高定向耦合器的带宽,同时将其传输线支节替换为低通滤波结构,以实现对高次谐波抑制的作用。仿真结果表明,该定向耦合器的反射系数和隔离度均小于-15 dB,传输损耗小于3.8 dB,波动范围0.5 dB,相位差为90°且与双支节耦合器相比增加1 GHz带宽。满足耦合器的设计指标,可应用到微波元件中,提高微波元件的性能。  相似文献

We propose a directional coupler design based on coupled cavity waveguide in photonic crystals. The plane wave expansion is used to give the dispersion of the coupled cavity waveguides and two parallel such waveguides. The couple length is got from the dispersion curves. Based on the research of the dispersion, we present a directional coupler and the transmission property is given. We report an axial-asymmetric high-Q Fabry-Perot cavity supporting nondegenerate Hermite-Gaussian modes of the same mode order. Axial asymmetry of mirror surface was introduced by mechanically grinding off one side of a cylindrical mirror substrate without degrading the original mirror quality. The bases of the resulting Hermite-Gaussian modes were aligned with respect to the direction of grinding, making it possible to prescribe the mirror principal axes.  相似文献

提出了一种小型化双枝节加载的L波段微带线定向耦合器。使用功率相消技术提高定向耦合器的隔离度,并且采用两根长度不同的加载枝节分别在两个相近的频点上反射信号,从而实现耦合器的带宽扩展;同时采用缺陷地结构的慢波特性减小该定向耦合器的物理尺寸,并利用缺陷地结构产生的陷波,合并上述两根枝节反射抵消产生的的两个陷波,进一步提高定向耦合器的带宽和隔离度。该耦合器工作在L波段,耦合度约为10 dB,在整个L波段内的隔离度均优于?20 dB,最大约为?52.81 dB,相对带宽为60%。最后对设计的定向耦合器进行加工和测试,测试与仿真结果一致性较好,证明了该电路的可行性。  相似文献

Waveguide structures with a balance of loss and gain have been frequently discussed in the photonic community not only as photonic analogues of quantum-mechanical systems with parity-time (PT) symmetry (breaking), but also as components with potentially interesting technical applications. In this contribution, properties of mutually coupled photonic waveguides with loss and gain are numerically analyzed using our proprietary full-vectorial Fourier modal method. Beside the classical case of a directional coupler with a balance of loss and gain, more general waveguide coupler structures exhibiting the behaviour analogous to PT-symmetry breaking, potentially applicable for photonic switching, are analyzed, too. For applications, simultaneous mutually balanced change of both loss and gain is evidently impractical. For a directional coupler structure with loss in one channel and gain in the other channel it is shown by rigorous numerical modelling that the behaviour analogous to PT-symmetry breaking can be realized by varying gain (or loss) only. Finally, it is confirmed by rigorous numerical modelling that the exceptional point does exist also in a very high-contrast asymmetric structure of a plasmonic directional coupler with strongly localized gain in one channel.  相似文献

We analyzed the evolution of chirped optical pulses in a nonlinear directional coupler by coupled nonlinear Schrödinger equations. It is shown that an optical pulses launched into one channel can couple out from either of the two channels of the nonlinear directional coupler, with the routing determined by the chirp of the pulse. This is different from the previous routing mechanism of the nonlinear directional coupler where routing is determined by the peak power of the pulse. Based on the chirp-dependent feature, all-optical router and switch could be implemented by the pulse chirp modulation.  相似文献

We present the design, fabrication, and measurement of an ultracompact directional coupler in InP/InGaAsP/InP. By utilizing the lag effect in the dry etching process, in one etch step, deeply etched asymmetric waveguides with a shallow groove in between are fabricated. This special property enhances the coupling efficiency for the directional coupler and thus makes the device ultracompact. We demonstrate directional couplers as short as 55 microm, which is only 1/30th the length of the conventional design.  相似文献

A polarizing beam splitter (PBS) and a non-polarizing beam splitter (NPBS) based on a photonic crystal (PC) directional coupler are demonstrated. The photonic crystal directional coupler consists of a hexagonal lattice of dielectric pillars in air and has a complete photonic band gap. The photonic band structure and the band gap map are calculated using the plane wave expansion (PWE) method. The splitting properties of the splitter are investigated numerically using the finite difference time domain (FDTD) method.  相似文献

A novel graphical representation of the supermode theory of a waveguide directional coupler based on phasor analysis is described. Following this approach, dependence of the magnitudes and phases of the output fields on the splitting ratio of a directional coupler is discussed. Both the cases of phase-matched (identical) and non-phase-matched (non-identical) waveguides constituting a directional coupler are investigated. This approach directly illustrates the fact that the phase shift suffered by the coupled light relative to the throughput light is π/2, regardless of the splitting ratio for identical guides, which is not the case for couplers with non-identical waveguides. It also yields additional information about the phases of the output fields of a directional coupler. The usefulness of this approach in the context of wavelength-flattened couplers, wavelength division multiplexing couplers, and polarization effects in directional couplers is also discussed. This approach should also be helpful in the analysis of guided wave interferometric devices such as wavelength interleave filters and modulators, based on concatenated directional couplers.  相似文献

介绍了大功率容量定向耦合器的设计、标定、测试与应用情况。以X波段圆波导定向耦合器为例,在9.2~10.2 GHz的频带范围内,基于小孔耦合理论优化设计的结构,其耦合度可以稳定在(55±2)dB以内,隔离度大于80 dB。在此基础上,设计加工了X波段圆波导定向耦合器并进行了标定测试,测试与仿真结果吻合较好,高功率微波实验证实了其具有较高功率容量,能够满足实验需求。该类圆波导定向耦合器已广泛应用于实验室高功率微波源的在线测量装置中。  相似文献

利用拉普拉斯变换,将多波导定向耦合器的耦合模方程组变换为三对角线性方程组,并采用追赶法求出了该方程组的通解;进一步,给定初始条件,进行拉普拉斯变换反演,即可严格地求出该耦合模方程组的解。采用该方法研究了5波导定向耦合器光从一个波导入射和等光强从5个波导入射时的耦合特性,求出了耦合模方程组解的解析表达式,给出了每个波导中光功率变化规律曲线。利用该方法,可很方便地求出任意有限数目波导组成的定向耦合器在任意入射条件下耦合模方程组的解,因此对于多波导定向耦合器结构的合理设计,具有非常重要的意义。  相似文献

We propose a very short vertical directional coupler with polarization-insensitive high extinction ratios. The structure of the coupler has two deep-ridge waveguide structures in the upper and lower parts which can be implemented using a double-sided wafer process. The coupling length and extinction ratios of the vertical directional coupler with symmetric structures decrease as the thicknesses of the inner cladding layer and core layer decrease. The extinction ratio is improved using a slight asymmetry in the refractive indices of two core layers. As the thicknesses of the inner cladding layer and core layer decrease, the length of the vertical directional coupler for extinction ratios greater than 30 dB of both TE and TM modes decreases. A vertical directional coupler with a very short length less than 100 μm and polarization-insensitive high extinction ratios greater than 30 dB can be implemented using the structure proposed in this paper.  相似文献

A mode-selective directional coupler based on titanium in-diffused channel waveguides in lithium niobate is investigated. This coupler may be utilized as a key part of an add-drop multiplexer for dense wavelength division multiplexing in optical network nodes. The proposed coupler is based on evanescent coupling of the fundamental mode of a single-mode channel to the first higher mode of a parallel bi-modal waveguide. Our experimental results show that a compact directional coupler with coupling efficiencies larger than 90%, large bandwidth around 1550 nm, and with negligible polarization dependence can be realized using electro-optic lithium niobate substrates. The utilization of multimode ion-exchanged waveguides to form an optical directional coupler for multimode fibre backscattering measurements is discussed. The optical properties of the integrated branching element are described in detail. A very high directivity of 70 dB was obtained with this new device. The dynamic range in the backscattering measurement was 23 dB fibre one-way loss.  相似文献

为实现模块化相对论速调管放大器功率、频率和相位的在线测量,对紧凑型高定向性高带宽的定向耦合器进行了仿真和实验研究。利用小孔耦合理论和相位叠加原理进行理论分析,设计了一种双孔紧凑型定向耦合器,在此基础上采用主、副波导正交连接,耦合孔沿轴向和角向二维分布的方法,进一步缩短了耦合器的长度。通过电磁仿真对耦合器各参数进行优化,模拟结果表明:当中心频率为10 GHz时,普通双孔定向耦合器对TM01模式的耦合度为-60.68 dB,在250 MHz的带宽内定向性大于20 dB,此时耦合区长度为3.49 cm。改进型定向耦合器对TM01模式的耦合度为-58.1 dB,在300 MHz的带宽内定向性大于20 dB,此时耦合区长度仅为1.8 cm(约0.6λ)。耦合器的冷腔实验测量结果与仿真结果符合较好。  相似文献
