In this paper we give an asymptotic formula for a matrix integral which plays a crucial role in the approach of Diaconis et al. to random matrix eigenvalues. The choice of parameter for the asymptotic analysis is motivated by an invariant-theoretic interpretation of this type of integral. For arbitrary regular irreducible representations of arbitrary connected semisimple compact Lie groups, we obtain an asymptotic formula for the trace of permutation operators on the space of tensor invariants, thus extending a result of Biane on the dimension of these spaces.

In this paper we study the relationship between factorization problems on SU(2n) or more generally on compact Lie groups G and time optimal control problems. Both types of problems naturally arise in physics, such as in quantum computing and in controlling coupled spin systems (NMR‐spectroscopy). In the first part we show that certain factorization problems can be reformulated as time optimal control problems on G. In the second part a necessary condition for the existence of finite optimal factorizations is discussed. At the end we illustrate our results by an example on Euler angle factorizations. We study the asymptotic stability of stochastic flows on compact spaces induced by Levy processes in semisimple Lie groups. It is shown that the Lyapunov exponents can be determined naturally in terms of root structure of the Lie group and there is an open subset whose complement has a positive codimension such that, after a random rotation, each of its connected components is shrunk to a single moving point exponentially under the flow.

In this paper, we introduce the notion of a Minkowski Lie algebra, which is the natural generalization of the notion of a real quadratic Lie algebra (metric Lie algebra). We then study the positive definite Minkowski Lie algebras and obtain a complete classification of the simple ones. Finally, we present some applications of our results to Finsler geometry and give a classification of bi-invariant Finsler metrics on Lie groups. Let G be a three‐dimensional unimodular Lie group, and let T be a left‐invariant symmetric (0,2)‐tensor field on G. We provide the necessary and sufficient conditions on T for the existence of a pair consisting of a left‐invariant Riemannian metric g and a positive constant c such that , where is the Ricci curvature of g. We also discuss the uniqueness of such pairs and show that, in most cases, there exists at most one positive constant c such that is solvable for some left‐invariant Riemannian metric g.  相似文献

In this article, we introduce a new method for manufacturing harmonic morphisms from semi-Riemannian manifolds. This is employed to yield a variety of new examples from the compact Lie groups SO(n), SU(n) and Sp(n) equipped with their standard Riemannian metrics. We develop a duality principle and show how this can be used to construct the first known examples of harmonic morphisms from the non-compact Lie groups , SU *(2n), , SO *(2n), SO(p, q), SU(p, q) and Sp(p, q) equipped with their standard dual semi-Riemannian metrics.   相似文献

In this article we study the behavior of harmonic maps from compact connected Lie groups with bi-invariant metrics into a Hilbert orthogonal group. In particular, we will demonstrate that any such harmonic map always has image contained within someO(n),n<∞. Since homomorphisms are a special subset of the harmonic maps we get as a corollary an extension of the Peter-Weyl theorem, namely, that every representation of a connected compact Lie group is finite dimensional. On Lie group manifolds, we consider right-invariant magnetic geodesic flows associated with 2-cocycles of the corresponding Lie algebras. We investigate the algebra of the integrals of motion of magnetic geodesic flows and also formulate a necessary and sufficient condition for their integrability in quadratures, giving the canonical forms of 2-cocycles for all four-dimensional Lie algebras and selecting integrable cases. __________ Translated from Teoreticheskaya i Matematicheskaya Fizika, Vol. 156, No. 2, pp. 189–206, August, 2008.  相似文献

We establish the sharp Gårding inequality on compact Lie groups. The positivity condition is expressed in the non-commutative phase space in terms of the full matrix symbol, which is defined using the representations of the group. Applications are given to the L2 and Sobolev boundedness of pseudo-differential operators.  相似文献

We construct a pair of compact, eight-dimensional, two-step Riemannian nilmanifolds M and M′ which are isospectral for the Laplace operator on functions and such that M has completely integrable geodesic flow in the sense of Liouville, while M′ has not. Moreover, for both manifolds we analyze the structure of the submanifolds of the unit tangent bundle given by two maximal continuous families of closed geodesics with generic velocity fields. The structure of these submanifolds turns out to reflect the above (non)integrability properties. On the other hand, their dimension is larger than that of the Lagrangian tori in M, indicating a degeneracy which might explain the fact that the wave invariants do not distinguish an integrable from a nonintegrable system here. Finally, we show that for M, the invariant eight-dimensional tori which are foliated by closed geodesics are dense in the unit tangent bundle, and that both M and M′ satisfy the so-called Clean Intersection Hypothesis. Let be a compact Lie group. We use Weyl functional calculus (Anderson, 1969) and symplectic convexity theorems to determine the support and singular support of the operator-valued Fourier transform of the product of the -function and the pull-back of an arbitrary unitary irreducible representation of to the Lie algebra, strengthening and generalizing the results of Cazzaniga, 1992. We obtain as a consequence a new demonstration of the Kirillov correspondence for compact Lie groups.

We show that there are characters of compact, connected, non-abelian groups that approximate random choices of signs. The work was motivated by Kronecker's theorem on the independence of exponential functions and has applications to thin sets.

We define a geometry on a group to be an abelian semigroup of symmetric open sets with certain properties. Examples include well-known structures such as invariant Riemannian metrics on Lie groups, hyperbolic groups, and valuations on fields. In this paper we are mostly concerned with geometries where the semigroup is isomorphic to the positive reals, which for Lie groups come from invariant Finsler metrics. We explore various aspects of these geometric groups, including a theory of covering groups for arcwise connected groups, algebraic expressions for invariant metrics and inner metrics, construction of geometries with curvature bounded below, and finding geometrically significant curves in path homotopy classes.

Let be the total space of a fibre bundle with base a simply connected manifold whose loop space homology grows exponentially for a given coefficient field. Then we show that for any Riemannian metric on , the topological entropy of the geodesic flow of is positive. It follows then, that there exist closed manifolds with arbitrary fundamental group, for which the geodesic flow of any Riemannian metric on has positive topological entropy.

We classify open maximal subalgebras of all infinite-dimensional linearly compact simple Lie superalgebras. This is applied to the classification of infinite-dimensional Lie superalgebras of vector fields, acting transitively and primitively in a formal neighborhood of a point of a finite-dimensional supermanifold.  相似文献

Let G = SL(n, ?) (or, more generally, let G be a connected, noncompact, simple Lie group). For any compact Lie group K, it is easy to find a compact manifold M, such that there is a volume-preserving, connection-preserving, ergodic action of G on some smooth, principal K-bundle P over M. Can M can be chosen independent of K? We show that if M = H/Λ is a homogeneous space, and the action of G on M is by translations, then P must also be a homogeneous space H′Λ′. Consequently, there is a strong restriction on the groups K that can arise over this particular M.  相似文献

We define the extension of a left-invariant sub-Riemannian structure in terms of an extension of the underlying Lie group and compatibility of the respective distributions and metrics. We show that geodesics of a structure can be lifted to geodesics of any extension of the structure. In the case of central extensions, we show that the normal geodesics of the minimal extension are the projection (in a sense) of the normal geodesics of any other compatible extension. Several illustrative examples are discussed.  相似文献

LetG be a stratified Lie group and (t)t 0 be a continuous convolution semigroup of probability measures onG. A probability measurev is said to belong to the -domain of attraction of 1, if there exists a sequence (a n ) of positive real numbers such that weakly, where 1 denotes the natural dilation onG. We prove convergence criteria for discrete convolution semigroups. These are used to obtain a simple necessary and sufficient condition for the existence of sucha n if (t)t 0 has no Gaussian component. For the proof we introduce the notion of regularly varying measures onG and develop the necessary theory of regular variation.  相似文献
