Fix a palette of colors, a graph with maximum degree , and a subset of the edge set with minimum distance between edges at least . If the edges of are arbitrarily precoloured from , then there is guaranteed to be a proper edge-coloring using only colors from that extends the precolouring on to the entire graph. This result is a first general precolouring extension form of Vizing's theorem, and it proves a conjecture of Albertson and Moore under a slightly stronger distance requirement. Starting from Helmholtz's equation in inhomogeneous media, the associated radial second‐order equation is investigated through a Volterra integral equation. First the integral equation is considered in a sphere. Boundedness, uniqueness and existence of the (regular) solution are established and the series form of the solution is provided. An estimate is determined for the error arising when the series is truncated. Next the analogous problem is considered for a spherical layer. Again, boundedness, uniqueness and existence of two base solutions are established and error estimates are determined. The procedure proves more effective in the sphere. We show that Morley's theorem on the number of countable models of a countable first-order theory becomes an undecidable statement when extended to second-order logic. More generally, we calculate the number of equivalence classes of equivalence relations obtained by countable intersections of projective sets in several models of set theory. Our methods include random and Cohen forcing, Woodin cardinals and Inner Model Theory.  相似文献

In this paper we will prove existence, uniqueness and regularity of a classical solution to a mixed boundary value problem for Chaplygin's hodograph equation, which is degenerate elliptic on a part of the boundary. This problem is derived from the study of detached bow shock ahead of a straight ramp in uniform supersonic flows in the hodograph plane. The proof depends on Perron's method and some techniques from linear elliptic equations.  相似文献

The boundedness of all solutions is shown for Duffing-type equations wherep 1,p 2,...,p 2n are of period 1 and of Lipschitzian continuity andp n+1,...,p 2n are of Zygmundian continuity. This conclusion implies that the boundedness phenomenon for the Duffing-type equations does not require the smoothness in the time-variable, thus answering the question posed by Dieckerhoff and Zehnder.  相似文献

We study hypersurfaces in Euclidean space whose position vector x satisfies the condition L k x = Ax + b, where L k is the linearized operator of the (k + 1)th mean curvature of the hypersurface for a fixed , is a constant matrix and is a constant vector. We extend the classical theory of singular Sturm-Liouville boundary value problems on the half line, as developed by Titshmarsh and Levitan to generalized functions in order to obtain a general approach to handle many integral transforms, such as the sine, cosine, Weber, Hankel, and the K-transforms, in a unified way.
