This article presents a space–time discontinuous Galerkin (DG) finite element method for linear convection-dominated Sobolev equations. The finite element method has basis functions that are continuous in space and discontinuous in time, and variable spatial meshes and time steps are allowed. In the discrete intervals of time, using properties of the Radau quadrature rule, eliminates the restriction to space–time meshes of convectional space–time Galerkin methods. The existence and uniqueness of the approximate solution are proved. An optimal priori error estimate in L(H1) is derived. Numerical experiments are presented to confirm theoretical results.  相似文献

Numerical conformal mapping packages based on the Schwarz–Christoffel formula have been in existence for a number of years. Various authors, for good reasons of practical efficiency, have chosen to use composite n-point Gauss–Jacobi rules for the estimation of the Schwarz–Christoffel path integrals. These implementations rely on an ad hoc, but experimentally well-founded, heuristic for selecting the spacing of the integration end-points relative to the position of the nearby integrand singularities. In the present paper we derive an explicitly computable estimate, asymptotic as n→∞, for the relevant Gauss–Jacobi quadrature error. A numerical example illustrates the potential accuracy of the estimate even at low values of n. It is apparent that the error estimate will allow the adaptive construction of composite rules in a manner that is more efficient than has been possible hitherto.  相似文献

In this paper, we use a semi-discrete and a padé approximation method to propose a new difference scheme for solving convection–diffusion problems. The truncation error of the difference scheme is O(h4+τ5). It is shown through analysis that the scheme is unconditionally stable. Numerical experiments are conducted to test its high accuracy and to compare it with Crank–Nicolson method.  相似文献

For quasi-linear regression functions, the Robbins–Monro process Xn is decomposed in a sum of a linear form and a quadratic form both defined in the observation errors. Under regularity conditions, the remainder term is of order O(n−3/2) with respect to the Lp-norm. If a cubic form is added, the remainder term can be improved up to an order of O(n−2). As a corollary the expectation of Xn is expanded up to an error of order O(n−2). This is used to correct the bias of Xn up to an error of order O(n−3/2 log n).  相似文献

In this paper the dynamical behaviors of a dispersive shallow water equation with viscosity, viscosity Degasperis–Procesi equation, are investigated. The existence of global solution to viscosity Degasperis–Procesi equation in L2 under the periodical boundary condition is studied and the existence of the global attractor of semi-group to solution on viscosity Degasperis–Procesi equation in H2 is obtained.  相似文献

This paper aims to present a proof of the existence of the attractor for the one-dimensional viscous Fornberg–Whitham equation. In this paper, the global existence of solution to the viscous Fornberg–Whitham equation in L2 under the periodic boundary conditions is studied. By using the time estimate of the Fornberg–Whitham equation, we get the compact and bounded absorbing set and the existence of the global attractor for the viscous Fornberg–Whitham equation.  相似文献

We perform the Lie group classification of the Emden–Fowler-type equation xu+nu+xνF(u)=0, which arises in several applications. These include the theory of stellar structure, the thermal behaviour of a spherical cloud of gas, isothermal gas spheres and the theory of thermionic currents. Seven cases arise for the possible extension of the principal Lie algebra, which in this case is trivial. Three new cases occur for which we have non-trivial Lie point symmetry algebra. We compare these cases with the Noether symmetry cases. Moreover, we also make comparisons with the partial Noether operators. Finally for three cases we reduce the Emden–Fowler-type equation to quadratures.  相似文献

We consider the unbounded domain problems −Δu+u=|u|p−2u in Ω, u>0 in Ω, and u=0 on ∂Ω, where Ω is an unbounded domain in , 2<p<2*, for N>2, and 2*=∞ for N=2. The existence of a ground state solution to the problems is greatly affected by the shape of the domain. To determine the existence of the solutions in a general domain remains a challenge task. For the flat interior flask domain that consists a strip and a ball attached to the bottom of the strip, previous results have asserted the existence of a ground state solution when the diameter of the ball is greater than a positive constant. However, the existence of the solutions when the diameter of the ball equals to the width of the strip is still an important open question. This article resolves the open question partially by considering a variation of the flat interior flask domain, which is formed by attaching a stretched ball to the bottom of the strip.  相似文献

For the GMANOVA–MANOVA model with normal error: , , we study in this paper the sphericity hypothesis test problem with respect to covariance matrix: Σ=λIq (λ is unknown). It is shown that, as a function of the likelihood ratio statistic Λ, the null distribution of Λ2/n can be expressed by Meijer’s function, and the asymptotic null distribution of −2logΛ is (as n). In addition, the Bartlett type correction −2ρlogΛ for logΛ is indicated to be asymptotically distributed as with order n−2 for an appropriate Bartlett adjustment factor −2ρ under null hypothesis.  相似文献

In this short note, we prove that for β<1/5 every graph G with n vertices and n2−β edges contains a subgraph G with at least cn2−2β edges such that every pair of edges in G lie together on a cycle of length at most 8. Moreover edges in G which share a vertex lie together on a cycle of length at most 6. This result is best possible up to the constant factor and settles a conjecture of Duke, Erdős, and Rödl.  相似文献

We show that the Lp spatial–temporal decay rates of solutions of incompressible flow in an 2D exterior domain. When a domain has a boundary, pressure term makes an obstacle since we do not have enough information on the pressure term near the boundary. To overcome the difficulty, we adopt the ideas in He, Xin [C. He, Z. Xin, Weighted estimates for nonstationary Navier–Stokes equations in exterior domain, Methods Appl. Anal. 7 (3) (2000) 443–458], and our previous results [H.-O. Bae, B.J. Jin, Asymptotic behavior of Stokes solutions in 2D exterior domains, J. Math. Fluid Mech., in press; H.-O. Bae, B.J. Jin, Temporal and spatial decay rates of Navier–Stokes solutions in exterior domains, submitted for publication]. The C0 coarse structure on a metric space is a refinement of the bounded structure and is closely related to the topology of the space. In this paper we will prove the C0 version of the coarse Baum–Connes conjecture and show that K*(C*X0) is a topological invariant for a broad class of metric spaces. Using this result we construct a ‘geometric’ obstruction group to the coarse Baum–Connes conjecture for the bounded coarse structure. We then show under the assumption of finite asymptotic dimension that the obstructions vanish, and hence we obtain a new proof of the coarse Baum–Connes conjecture in this context.  相似文献

The asymptotic behavior of quadratic Hermite–Padé polynomials associated with the exponential function is studied for n→∞. These polynomials are defined by the relation

In the investigation analytic expressions are proved for the asymptotics of the polynomials, for the asymptotics of the remainder term in (*), and also for the arcs on which the zeros of the polynomials and of the remainder term cluster if the independent variable z is rescaled in an appropriate way. The asymptotic expressions are defined with the help of an algebraic function of third degree and its associated Riemann surface. Among other possible applications, the results form the basis for the investigation of the convergence of quadratic Hermite–Padé approximants, which will be done in a follow-up paper.  相似文献

We study the local stabilization of the three-dimensional Navier–Stokes equations around an unstable stationary solution w, by means of a feedback boundary control. We first determine a feedback law for the linearized system around w. Next, we show that this feedback provides a local stabilization of the Navier–Stokes equations. To deal with the nonlinear term, the solutions to the closed loop system must be in H3/2+ε,3/4+ε/2(Q), with 0<ε. In [V. Barbu, I. Lasiecka, R. Triggiani, Boundary stabilization of Navier–Stokes equations, Mem. Amer. Math. Soc. 852 (2006); V. Barbu, I. Lasiecka, R. Triggiani, Abstract settings for tangential boundary stabilization of Navier–Stokes equations by high- and low-gain feedback controllers, Nonlinear Anal. 64 (2006) 2704–2746], such a regularity is achieved with a feedback obtained by minimizing a functional involving a norm of the state variable strong enough. In that case, the feedback controller cannot be determined by a well posed Riccati equation. Here, we choose a functional involving a very weak norm of the state variable. The compatibility condition between the initial state and the feedback controller at t=0, is achieved by choosing a time varying control operator in a neighbourhood of t=0.  相似文献

The uniqueness of solutions to two inverse Sturm–Liouville problems using three spectra is proven, based on the uniqueness of the solution-pair to an overdetermined Goursat–Cauchy boundary value problem. We discuss the uniqueness of the potential for a Dirichlet boundary condition at an arbitrary interior node, and for a Robin boundary condition at an arbitrary interior node, whereas at the exterior nodes we have Dirichlet boundary conditions in both situations. The Schwarz–Christoffel mapping from the upper half-plane to a polygonal region in the complex plane is an integral of a product with several factors, where each factor corresponds to a certain vertex in the polygon. Different modifications of the Schwarz–Christoffel mapping in which factors are replaced with the so-called curve factors to achieve polygons with rounded corners are known since long times. Among other requisites, the arguments of a curve factor and its correspondent scl factor must be equal outside some closed interval on the real axis.In this paper, the term approximate curve factor is defined such that many of the already known curve factors are included as special cases. Additionally, by alleviating the requisite on the argument from exact to asymptotic equality, new types of curve factors are introduced. While traditional curve factors have a C1 regularity, C regular approximate curve factors can be constructed, resulting in smooth boundary curves when used in conformal mappings.Applications include modelling of wave scattering in waveguides. When using approximate curve factors in modified Schwarz–Christoffel mappings, numerical conformal mappings can be constructed that preserve two important properties in the waveguides. First, the direction of the boundary curve can be well controlled, especially towards infinity, where the application requires two straight parallel walls. Second, a smooth (C) boundary curve can be achieved.  相似文献
