A new calibration method for determining the radium (226Ra) and thorium (232Th) specific activities of the considered building materials has been developed. The radon production rates per unit volume of the studied materials have been evaluated. The influence of the material porosity on the radon emanation coefficient and radon production rate have been investigated.  相似文献

Wasted petroleum, scale and sludge, samples associated with petroleum industries have elevated level of radionuclides concentrations which increase the radiation dose received to the workers. Radon concentration, emanation coefficient and exhalation rate give good information about the radioactivity levels. Twelve samples of scale, sludge and sand, collected from different oil fields in the Red Sea Refineries company for petroleum services in the eastern desert of Egypt, were selected for this study. Radon concentration released from selected samples was measured using AlphaGUARD radon monitor. Radon emanation coefficient and its exhalation rate were calculated based on the measured value of radon concentration. Correlation among radon exhalation rate with radium content and “emanated radon concentration” (radium concentration × emanation coefficient) as well were found to be of 0.94 and 0.99, respectively. Therefore, radon exhalation rate could be useful index for both radium concentration and emanated radon. Radon emanation coefficient was increased more than twice due to water content within material of less than of 10 %.  相似文献

Samples have been collected from different layers in a sedimentary phosphatic deposit and sieved. Different granulometric fractions have been selected. The uranium and thorium contents have been determined in each phosphate sample and its corresponding selected fractions. Radon (222Rn) α-activities per unit volume have been evaluated inside and outside each phosphate sample and its corresponding selected fractions by using CR-39 and LR-115 type II solid state nuclear track detectors (SSNTD). The radon emanation coefficient in each phosphate layer has been determined and the global radon alpha activity outside a parallelepipedic block of the layers studied was evaluated. The influence of the lithology and granulation on the radon emanation has been studied.  相似文献

Radon-to-thoron ratios as well as radon and thoron activity concentrations in different underground water samples belonging to different aquifers in the Moroccan Middle Atlas area have been evaluated by LR-115 and CR-39 solid state nuclear track detectors (SSNTD) using a new calibration method. The radon isotope (222Rn) was used as a tracer for studying the water exchange between different aquifers of the area studied. The influence of the lithological and hydrogeological parameters of the aquifers on radon emanation were investigated.  相似文献

A simple method for the determination of the radon emanation fraction was studied using a liquid scintillation counter. The radon activity of the gaseous phase in a closed container was measured 1 day and 35 days after sealing and used to calculate the radon emanation fraction. Radon leakage from the container was investigated using a 226Ra radioactive standard solution (SRM4967, NIST) to plot a radon growth curve. The method was applied to materials that typically contain a high level of radium, such as phosphogypsum, phosphate fertilizer and a rock sample. The effect of temperature on the radon emanation fraction from the materials was investigated at 0, 10, 20, 30 and 40 °C. It was found that there is a linear correlation (R 2 = 0.746 − 0.946) between temperature and the emanation fraction. Within the temperature range, the radon emanation fractions were 0.241–0.466 for phosphogypsum, 0.225–0.351 for phosphate fertilizer and 0.154–0.351 for the rock sample.  相似文献

The applicability of a radon emanation system to radium determination in fine-grained solid samples has been investigated by means of a closed radon emanation system consisting of a radon monitor and an aluminium vessel. The system has been calibrated with radium-containing fine-grained samples (e.g. phosphogypsum, granite and pitchblende) and the evaluation of the calibration data included linearity, detection limits and analytical resolution of the method. The studied radon emanation system presents very good linear response (R 2 = 0.99) to the radium content of the samples, the detection limit for radon is 25 Bq m?3 and the analytical resolution 15 Bq m?3. In addition, the relation between particle size of the materials and radon emanation has indicated that the applicability of the radon emanation system to radium determination is strongly depended not only on the mineral type but also on the particle size of the grained material.  相似文献

Indoor radon and thoron concentrations were dominated with their exhalation rate from building materials. Thus, the evaluation of exhalation rate with highly precise is important. This paper presented a new technique to measure the dependence radon/thoron exhalation rate, from building materials used in Japan, on absolute humidity. The measurement technique consisted of a solid state alpha detector equipped a ventilation-type chamber and humidity control system in a flow through method. The exhalation rate of dried samples (Indian red granite and Japanese gray granite) was measured at various absolute humidity levels in the range of 1–20 g cm−3. It was found that exhalation rate increased exponential with increasing of absolute humidity for both samples. Furthermore, the dependence of radon emanation coefficient on building material’s temperature was also studied using an accumulation chamber equipped with scintillation cell alpha detector. The emanation coefficient of dry sample increased proportionally with increasing the material’s temperature with a correlation factor of 0.88.  相似文献

Radon -activities per unit volume have been measured in different drinking water samples belonging to different aquifers and sources by using CR-39 and LR-115 solid state nuclear track detectors (SSNTD). Radon initial equivalent -dose rates due to water ingestion have been evaluated in the stomach assuming that all the radon ingested appears in this organ. The influence of the origin and quality of the water samples studied has been investigated. Committed equivalent doses have been determined in different human organs by using dosimetric compartment models. The influence of the radon mean residence time on the committed equivalent doses in the different compartments of the gastrointestinal system has been studied. The committed equivalent dose per unit activity of radon ingested has been evaluated in the stomach tissue and compared with literature data.  相似文献

Variations of radon in soils induced by external factors   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
Experiments were designed to evaluate, in a controlled way, some of the variations that can be expected in radon concentration in soil due mainly to meteorological factors and to close spacing monitoring in the field. Electronic continuous radon monitoring and the track-etch method were used to record the radon -decay. The radon emanation in daily measurements and in long term surveys showed a general effect modulated by temperature and pressure variations. Radon monitoring in soil for nearby stations showed that a 10% range of variation can be expected with the track-etch method and as a result of non-homogeneous emanation pattern of the soil.  相似文献

The process of incorporation of radioactive wastes into a suitable matrix to form a stable product for long term disposal has been studied. The changes, occuring during the thermal treatment with glassy materials, i.e. drying, transformation processes, sintering, melting, etc. have been followed using emanation (radon) thermal analysis. This method was found useful in solving the problems of process development.  相似文献

Experiments were designed to measure trace uranium concentration and the rate of radon exhalation from masonry structural materials, both bare and surface finished and coated. LR115 cellulose nitrate track detectors were used to record the alpha emission from structural material surface. Fission track, neutron activation and fluorometric analysis methods were used to determine the uranium content. Most types of paints studied will reduce alpha contribution and radon emanation from building materials.  相似文献

Uranium and thorium contents in different layers of an archaeological site have been determined by using CR-39 and LR-115 type II solid state nuclear track detectors (SSNTD) and calculating the probabilities for α-particles emitted by the uranium and thorium series to reach and be registered on the SSNTD films. A new method has been developed based on calculating the self-absorption coefficient of the gamma-photons emitted by the uranium (238U), thorium (232Th) and their corresponding decay products as well as the potassium-40 (40K) isotope for evaluating the annual absorbed gamma dose rates in the considered material samples. Results obtained have been compared with data obtained by using the TL dosimetry and Bell's (Bell, 1979) methods. Ceramic samples belonging to the studied archaeological site have been dated.  相似文献

Various methods for introduction of radioactive noble gases into solids are reviewed and also the diffusion of radioactive noble gases in α-iron(III)oxide, labelled by different methods. The HAHN emanation and ion bombardment methods have been used. Different noble gas diffusion processes have been shown to occur during heating the type of which is influenced by the kind of labelling conditions. The values of the activation energy of the noble gas diffusion are compared. Lattice defects including the amorphous state of FeIIIoxide are produced by ion bombardment. On the basis of the diffusion behaviour of radon, being studied by the emanation method, the “activity” of FeIII oxide prepared by heating of different iron salts and sintered at various temperatures has been estimated. It is shown that the emanation method can be used for the study of the sintering of ferric oxide. On the basis of the solid state reaction ZnO + Fe2O3 the reactivity of ferric oxide in dependence on its thermal history has been investigated.  相似文献

The emanation method and the method of surface labelling have been applied to study thermal processes. Using these methods, processes which are not connected with thermal effects can be analysed. In certain cases, for example in the study of poorly crystalline, or amorphous phases, these methods are even more sensitive than thermographic and X-ray techniques. The method of surface labelling is advantageous in cases when it is impossible to activate the samples by the parent isotope of the gas during the process of their preparation. This work was performed during the author's study leave to Moscow State University, Department of Radiochemistry.  相似文献

The 222Rn emanation fraction (EF) released from the technically enhanced naturally occurring radioactive material (TE-NORM) wastes at certain sites of petroleum and gas production was determined. The samples were analyzed by γ-ray spectrometry to determine the activity concentration of the 226Ra content, of which the 222Rn emanation fraction was calculated. The results showed that the 222Rn emanation fraction differs in the oil and gas production sites and it is independent of the activity concentration of 226Ra. This revised version was published online in August 2006 with corrections to the Cover Date.  相似文献

Radon alpha-activities were evaluated in different places of a quaternary cave, by using solid state nuclear track detectors (SSNTD). The maximum activity was detected in the place more moved back of the studied cave. The ventilation phenomenon has been investigated. The radon alpha activity and uranium content according to the growth of stalagmite and stalactite samples from the cave were evaluated. A positive correlation has been shown between the uranium distribution (radon) and the stratigraphic order of the stalagmite (and stalactite) samples.  相似文献

The concentration of radioactive226Ra,232Th and40K in building and ceramic materials of Bangladesh was investigated by γ-spectrometry with two HPGe detectors. Radium equivalent activities, representative level index values, criterion formula, emanation coefficients and222Rn mass exhalation rates were estimated for the radiation hazard of the natural radioactivity in the materials. The activity concentrations of the natural radionuclides, radium equivalent activities, emanation coefficients and222Rn mass exhalation rates are compared with the corresponding values for building and ceramic materials of different countries. The radium equivalent activities in the samples varied between 30.9 (mosaic stone) and 328.0 Bq·kg−1 (gypsum). The emanation coefficient of the materials ranged from 7.83 (cement) to 33.0% (soil) and the222Rn mass exhalation rate ranged from 2.31 (stone chips) to 118.0 μBq·kg−1·s−1 (gypsum).  相似文献

Radon exhalation rate in building materials using plastic track detectors   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
The radon flux emitted from building material samples and from the surface of building materials could be determined using a simple and reliable method. This method was based on the use of cellulose nitrate films (LR-115 II). The samples and the detectors were placed in a closed can of known dimensions. Tracks due to alpha-particles of radon that migrate from the building material into the air space in the chamber were registered on the LR-115 film. The detectors were chemically etched in 2.5N NaOH solution at 60±1 °C for 115 minutes. Exhalation rates of various building material samples and of building surfaces of various building components were determined. The results obtained by this technique could be used to establish a database for average radon exhalation rates for all available building materials and walls or floors.  相似文献

Radon concentration was measured by using 39CR track etched detectors in five fertilizer warehouses in the Punjab province of Pakistan. The average concentration of radon was determined to be 20–88 Bq m−3. Annual effective dose (AED) and excess lifetime cancer risk (ELCR) have also been assessed using the models of UNSCEAR and ICRP. The corresponding annual dose and ELCR to the workers of warehouses have been estimated to be 0.30–1.02 mSv year−1 and 0.44–1.02%, respectively.
