The thermal conductivity of molten NaCl and KCl was calculated through the Evans-Gillan nonequilibrium molecular dynamics (NEMD) algorithm and Green-Kubo equilibrium molecular dynamics (EMD) simulations. The EMD simulations were performed for a "binary" ionic mixture and the NEMD simulations assumed a pure system for reasons discussed in this work. The cross thermoelectric coefficient obtained from Green-Kubo EMD simulations is discussed in terms of the homogeneous thermoelectric power or Seebeck coefficient of these materials. The thermal conductivity obtained from NEMD simulations is found to be in very good agreement with that obtained through Green-Kubo EMD simulations for a binary ionic mixture. This result points to a possible cancellation between the neglected "partial enthalpy" contribution to the heat flux associated with the interdiffusion of one species through the other and that part of the thermal conductivity related to the coupled fluxes of charge and heat in "binary" ionic mixtures.  相似文献

We investigate the hydrodynamic boundary condition for simple nanofluidic systems such as argon and methane flowing in graphene nanochannels using equilibrium molecular dynamics simulations (EMD) in conjunction with our recently proposed method [J. S. Hansen, B. D. Todd, and P. J. Daivis, Phys. Rev. E 84, 016313 (2011)]. We first calculate the fluid-graphene interfacial friction coefficient, from which we can predict the slip length and the average velocity of the first fluid layer close to the wall (referred to as the slip velocity). Using direct nonequilibrium molecular dynamics simulations (NEMD) we then calculate the slip length and slip velocity from the streaming velocity profiles in Poiseuille and Couette flows. The slip lengths and slip velocities from the NEMD simulations are found to be in excellent agreement with our EMD predictions. Our EMD method therefore enables one to directly calculate this intrinsic friction coefficient between fluid and solid and the slip length for a given fluid and solid, which is otherwise tedious to calculate using direct NEMD simulations at low pressure gradients or shear rates. The advantages of the EMD method over the NEMD method to calculate the slip lengths/flow rates for nanofluidic systems are discussed, and we finally examine the dynamic behaviour of slip due to an externally applied field and shear rate.  相似文献

Nonequilibrium molecular dynamics (NEMD) simulations were performed and the transient time correlation function (TTCF) method applied to calculate the shear viscosity of n-decane. Using the TTCF method we were able to calculate the viscosity at shear rate orders of magnitude lower than is possible by direct NEMD simulation alone. For the first time for a molecular fluid, we were able to simulate shear rates accessible by experimental measurements, which are typically performed at shear rates well below those accessible by NEMD simulation. The TTCF method allows us to close the gap between the lowest shear rates accessible by MD simulation and the highest shear rates possible in experimental studies. Additionally a multiple time step method for Gaussian thermostatted SLLOD equations of motion was developed following earlier work [G. A. Pan et al., J. Chem. Phys. 122, 4114 (2005)] for atomic fluids.  相似文献

We use nonequilibrium molecular-dynamics (NEMD) simulations to characterize the response of a fluid subjected to an electric field. We focus on the response for very weak fields. Fields accessible by conventional NEMD methods are typically of the order of 10(9) V m(-1), i.e., several orders of magnitude larger than those typically used in experiments. Using the transient time-correlation function, we show how NEMD simulations can be extended to study systems subjected to a realistic dc electric field. We then apply this approach to study the response of molten sodium chloride for a wide range of dc electric fields.  相似文献

We report on nonequilibrium molecular dynamics (NEMD) simulations results on the shear viscosity of liquid copper, modeled by a many-body embedded-atoms model potential. Because conventional NEMD methods are restricted to very high shear rates (at least of the order of 10(10) s(-1), that is several orders of magnitude larger than those accessible by experiment), previous work only provided access to the response of the fluid in the shear-thinning regime. Using the transient-time correlation function formalism, we show how NEMD simulations can be extended to study the rheological properties of liquid copper subjected to low, experimentally accessible, shear rates. Our results provide a full picture of the rheology of the system, in the Newtonian regime as well as in the shear-thinning regime.  相似文献

First principles Hellmann-Feynman molecular dynamics (HFMD) results for molten NaCl at a single state point are reported. The effect of induction forces on the structure and dynamics of the system is studied by comparison of the partial radial distribution functions and the velocity and force autocorrelation functions with those calculated from classical MD based on rigid-ion and shell-model potentials. The first principles results reproduce the main structural features of the molten salt observed experimentally, whereas they are incorrectly described by both rigid-ion and shell-model potentials. Moreover, HFMD Green-Kubo self-diffusion coefficients are in closer agreement with experimental data than those predicted by classical MD. A comprehensive discussion of MD results for molten NaCl based on different ab initio parametrized polarizable interionic potentials is also given.  相似文献

Data for the flow rate of water in carbon nanopores is widely scattered, both in experiments and simulations. In this work, we aim at precisely quantifying the characteristic large slip length and flow rate of water flowing in a planar graphene nanochannel. First, we quantify the slip length using the intrinsic interfacial friction coefficient between water and graphene, which is found from equilibrium molecular dynamics (EMD) simulations. We then calculate the flow rate and the slip length from the streaming velocity profiles obtained using non-equilibrium molecular dynamics (NEMD) simulations and compare with the predictions from the EMD simulations. The slip length calculated from NEMD simulations is found to be extremely sensitive to the curvature of the velocity profile and it possesses large statistical errors. We therefore pose the question: Can a micrometer range slip length be reliably determined using velocity profiles obtained from NEMD simulations? Our answer is "not practical, if not impossible" based on the analysis given as the results. In the case of high slip systems such as water in carbon nanochannels, the EMD method results are more reliable, accurate, and computationally more efficient compared to the direct NEMD method for predicting the nanofluidic flow rate and hydrodynamic boundary condition.  相似文献

A transient molecular dynamics (TMD) method for obtaining fluid viscosity is extended to multisite, force-field models of both nonpolar and polar liquids. The method overlays a sinusoidal velocity profile over the peculiar particle velocities and then records the transient decay of the velocity profile. The viscosity is obtained by regression of the solution of the momentum equation with an appropriate constitutive equation and initial and boundary conditions corresponding to those used in the simulation. The transient velocity decays observed appeared to include both relaxation and retardation effects. The Jeffreys viscoelastic model was found to model accurately the transient responses obtained for multisite models for n-butane, isobutane, n-hexane, water, methanol, and 1-hexanol. TMD viscosities obtained for saturated liquids over a wide range of densities agreed well for the polar fluids, both with nonequilibrium molecular dynamics (NEMD) results using the same force-field models and with correlations based on experimental data. Viscosities obtained for the nonpolar fluids agreed well with the experimental and NEMD results at low to moderate densities, but underpredicted experimental values at higher densities where shear-thinning effects and viscous heating may impact the TMD simulations.  相似文献

The transient-time correlation function (TTCF) method is used to calculate the nonlinear response of a homogeneous atomic fluid close to equilibrium. The TTCF response of the pressure tensor subjected to a time-independent planar mixed flow of shear and elongation is compared to directly averaged non-equilibrium molecular dynamics (NEMD) simulations. We discuss the consequence of noise in simulations with a small rate of deformation. The generalized viscosity for planar mixed flow is also calculated with TTCF. We find that for small rates of deformation, TTCF is far more efficient than direct averages of NEMD simulations. Therefore, TTCF can be applied to fluids with deformation rates which are much smaller than those commonly used in NEMD simulations. Ultimately, TTCF applied to molecular systems is amenable to direct comparison between NEMD simulations and experiments and so in principle can be used to study the rheology of polymer melts in industrial processes.  相似文献

The structure and self-diffusion of NaI and NaCl at temperatures close to their melting points are studied by first principles Hellmann-Feynman molecular dynamics (HFMD). The results are compared with classical MD using rigid-ion (RI) and shell-model (ShM) interionic potentials. HFMD for NaCl was reported before at a higher temperature [N. Galamba and B. J. Costa Cabral, J. Chem. Phys. 126, 124502 (2007)]. The main differences between the structures predicted by HFMD and RI MD for NaI concern the cation-cation and the anion-cation pair correlation functions. A ShM which allows only for the polarization of I- reproduces the main features of the HFMD structure of NaI. The inclusion of polarization effects for both ionic species leads to a more structured ionic liquid, although a good agreement with HFMD is also observed. HFMD Green-Kubo self-diffusion coefficients are larger than those obtained from RI and ShM simulations. A qualitative study of charge transfer in molten NaI and NaCl was also carried out with the Hirshfeld charge partitioning method. Charge transfer in molten NaI is comparable to that in NaCl, and results for NaCl at two temperatures support the view that the magnitude of charge transfer is weakly state dependent for ionic systems. Finally, Hirshfeld charge distributions indicate that differences between RI and HFMD results are mainly related to polarization effects, while the influence of charge transfer fluctuations is minimal for these systems.  相似文献

A transient molecular dynamics (TMD) method has been developed for simulation of fluid viscosity. In this method a sinusoidal velocity profile is instantaneously overlaid onto equilibrated molecular velocities, and the subsequent decay of that velocity profile is observed. The viscosity is obtained by matching in a least-squares sense the analytical solution of the corresponding momentum transport boundary-value problem to the simulated decay of the initial velocity profile. The method was benchmarked by comparing results obtained from the TMD method for a Lennard-Jones fluid with those previously obtained using equilibrium molecular dynamics (EMD) simulations. Two different constitutive models were used in the macroscopic equations to relate the shear rate to the stress. Results using a Newtonian fluid model agree with EMD results at moderate densities but exhibit an increasingly positive error with increasing density at high densities. With the initial velocity profiles used in this study, simulated transient velocities displayed clear viscoelastic behavior at dimensionless densities above 0.7. However, the use of a linear viscoelastic model reproduces the simulated transient velocity behavior well and removes the high-density bias observed in the results obtained under the assumption of Newtonian behavior. The viscosity values obtained using the viscoelastic model are in excellent agreement with the EMD results over virtually the entire fluid domain. For simplicity, the Newtonian fluid model can be used at lower densities and the viscoelastic model at higher densities; the two models give equivalent results at intermediate densities.  相似文献

A symmetrical binary, A+B Lennard-Jones mixture is studied by a combination of semi-grand-canonical Monte Carlo (SGMC) and molecular dynamics (MD) methods near a liquid-liquid critical temperature T(c). Choosing equal chemical potentials for the two species, the SGMC switches identities (A-->B-->A) to generate well-equilibrated configurations of the system on the coexistence curve for TT(c). A finite-size scaling analysis of the concentration susceptibility above T(c) and of the order parameter below T(c) is performed, varying the number of particles from N=400 to 12 800. The data are fully compatible with the expected critical exponents of the three-dimensional Ising universality class. The equilibrium configurations from the SGMC runs are used as initial states for microcanonical MD runs, from which transport coefficients are extracted. Self-diffusion coefficients are obtained from the Einstein relation, while the interdiffusion coefficient and the shear viscosity are estimated from Green-Kubo expressions. As expected, the self-diffusion constant does not display a detectable critical anomaly. With appropriate finite-size scaling analysis, we show that the simulation data for the shear viscosity and the mutual diffusion constant are quite consistent both with the theoretically predicted behavior, including the critical exponents and amplitudes, and with the most accurate experimental evidence.  相似文献

In this paper the thermodiffusive behavior of an equimolar binary mixture subject to repulsive potentials of the form (sigma/r)(n) is investigated by using nonequilibrium molecular dynamics (NEMD) and the thermodiffusion (Soret) coefficient, S(T), is computed in a wide range of temperatures. With the aim to contribute to the study of the dependence of the Soret coefficient on the interaction potential, the exponent n of the potential is varied from 1 to 12, that is from a pseudocoulombian to a pseudohard-sphere interaction. The steady state equation is integrated for the composition function under reasonable assumptions and it is shown that in some cases the request for it to be linear cannot be satisfied. For this reason nonlinear functions are used to fit the NEMD composition data. The simulations indicate a negligible dependence of S(T) on the composition (in the composition range here considered) while the dependence on the temperature is more marked. The computed values of S(T) as a function of the temperature are fitted with analytical functions. It is found that with n> or =3 (medium and short range interaction) the model system behaves like a dilute gas mixture with the Soret coefficient varying with the temperature almost like 1/T. In the case of n=1 (long range interaction), S(T) has a more complex dependence on T: in particular it shows a change of sign. The analytical fitting functions, S(T)(T), are used in the integrated steady state equation thus obtaining the steady state composition profile and its comparison with the NEMD results indicates the grounding of the approach here proposed.  相似文献

Abstract

Equilibrium molecular dynamics computer simulations have been used to determine the transport coefficients of model Ar—Kr mixtures, which are represented by Lennard-Jones pair potentials with Lorentz—Berthelot rules for the cross-species interactions. The component self-diffusion and mutual-diffusion coefficients are calculated from time correlation functions and mean square displacements. Time correlation functions are used to evaluate the shear and bulk viscosity, thermal conductivity and the thermal diffusion coefficient (Soret/Dufour coefficient). In the case of the thermal transport coefficients, the partial enthalpy of the two species is required at each state point to define the heat flux rigorously. We obtain this and the partial volume (and species resolved chemical potential) using particle-exchange (and particle insertion) techniques implemented in separate [NPT] simulations at the same state point.

The viscoelasticity of the fluids is characterised by the relaxation times for bulk and shear stress relaxation. The results are for dense liquids close to the triple point temperature and density. Agreement with experiment and previous simulation is particularly good for the density of the mixtures, the shear modulus, shear viscosity, shear stress relaxation time and thermal conductivity. As for the single component noble gas fluids (simulated and experiment) there is a significant qualitative difference in the temperature and, for mixtures, composition dependence of the bulk viscosity.  相似文献

The redox potentials and reorganization energies of the type 1 (T1) Cu site in four multicopper oxidases were calculated by combining first principles density functional theory (QM) and QM/MM molecular dynamics (MD) simulations. The model enzymes selected included the laccase from Trametes versicolor, the laccase-like enzyme isolated from Bacillus subtilis, CueO required for copper homeostasis in Escherichia coli, and the small laccase (SLAC) from Streptomyces coelicolor. The results demonstrated good agreement with experimental data and provided insight into the parameters that influence the T1 redox potential. Effects of the immediate T1 Cu site environment, including the His(N(δ))-Cys(S)-His(N(δ)) and the axial coordinating amino acid, as well as the proximate H(N)(backbone)-S(Cys) hydrogen bond, were discerned. Furthermore, effects of the protein backbone and side-chains, as well as of the aqueous solvent, were studied by QM/MM molecular dynamics (MD) simulations, providing an understanding of influences beyond the T1 Cu coordination sphere. Suggestions were made regarding an increase of the T1 redox potential in SLAC, i.e., of Met198 and Thr232 in addition to the axial amino acid Met298. Finally, the results of this work presented a framework for understanding parameters that influence the Type 1 Cu MCO redox potential, useful for an ever-growing range of laccase-based applications.  相似文献

We have performed the molecular dynamics simulation to obtain energy, pressure, and self-diffusion coefficient of helium at different temperatures and densities using Lennard–Jones (LJ), Hartree–Fock dispersion-Individual damping (HFD-ID) potential, and the HFD-like potential which has been obtained with an inversion of viscosity data at zero pressure supplemented by quantum corrections following the Feynman–Hibbs approach. The contribution of three-body interactions using an accurate simple relationship reported by Wang and Sadus between two-body and three-body interactions has been also involved for non-effective potentials (HFD-ID and HFD-like) in simulation. Our results show a good agreement with corresponding experimental data. A comparison of our simulated results with other molecular simulations using different potentials is also included.  相似文献

The present work is devoted to a study of the shear-induced parallel-to-perpendicular orientation transition in the lamellar system by the large-scale nonequilibrium molecular-dynamics (NEMD) simulation. An effective generic model-A2B2 tetramer for amphiphilies is used. The NEMD simulation produces unambiguous evidence that undulation instability along the vorticity direction sets in well above a critical shear rate and grows in magnitude as the shear rate is further increased. At a certain high shear rate, the coherent undulation instability grows so large that defects are nucleated and the global lamellar monodomain breaks into several aligned lamellar domains. Subsequently layers in these domains rotate into the perpendicular orientation with the rotation of chains towards the y direction, merge into a global perpendicular-aligned lamellar monodomain, and organize into a perfect well-aligned perpendicular lamellar phase by the migration and annihilation of edge dislocations and disclinations. The macroscopic observable viscosity as a function of time or shear rate is correlated with the structural response such as the mesoscopic domain morphology and the microscopic chain conformation. The onset of undulation instability concurs with the start-up of shear-thinning behavior. During the orientation transformation at the high shear rate, the complex time-dependent thixotropic behavior is observed. The smaller viscosity in the perpendicular lamellar phase gives an energetic reason for the shear-induced orientation transition.  相似文献

The molecular structure of fluids composed of dendrimers of different generations is studied using nonequilibrium molecular dynamics (NEMD). NEMD results for dendrimer melts undergoing planar Couette flow are reported and analyzed with particular attention paid to the shear-induced changes in the internal structure of dendrimers. The radii of gyration, pair distribution functions and the fractal dimensionality of the dendrimers are determined at different strain rates. The location of the terminal groups is analyzed and found to be uniformly distributed throughout the space occupied by the molecules. The fractal dimension as a function of strain rate displays crossover behavior analogous to the Newtonian/non-Newtonian transition of shear viscosity.  相似文献
