Methylcellulose (MC) / SiO2 organic / inorganic hybrid materials have been prepared from MC and methyltriethoxysilane or ethyltrimethoxysilane, and characterized
by XRD, FTIR and AFM. XRD showed peak shifts. FTIR shows intermolecular hydrogen bonding between MC and SiO2. AFM depicts surface roughness which depends on the silica precursor and MC content.

Graphene multilayers have been prepared by mechanical method based on milling graphite in high efficient attritor mill. The
results showed that the best dispersion media is ethanol, and 10 hours of intensive milling proved to be the most efficient
way to separate the graphite layers as it was shown by scanning electron microscopy and X-ray diffraction measurements.

The reaction mechanism between AlX and HX (X = Br, Cl, and F) have been characterized in detail using DFT as well as the ab initio method. The reaction yielding AlX3 and molecular hydrogen was calculated to be highly exothermic. The present calculations also show that the possible routes
to the trihalides species start more favorable with the primary insertion product AlX2H than with the biadduct AlX(HX)2 one.

The potential energy surface (PES) of tyrosyl-glycyl-glycine (YGG) tripeptide in solution was explored using EDMC (Electrostatically
Driven Monte Carlo) and in the gas-phase by means of ab initio quantum chemical calculations. The theoretical computational
analysis revealed that this tripeptide possesses a significant molecular flexibility. A C7 backbone conformation was the most energetically preferred for the central Gly residue, using both methodologies. Some new
stable conformers that have not been previously reported were identified in the gas phase as well. This study points out the
interplay of backbone and side-chain contributions in determining the relative stabilities of energy minima. In addition,
the peptide backbone of YGG was compared with other small peptides containing aromatic side-chains (Phe-Gly-Gly and Trp-Gly-Gly).
The comparison with experimental X-ray results was also satisfactory.

A comparative study of the Diels-Alder reactions between cyclopentadiene (1) and dienophiles (2 a–c) in N-hexylpyridinium
bis(trifluoromethylsulfonyl)imide in a temperature range of 20–45°C is reported. The reaction rate constants and activation
energies were calculated. Moreover, the catalytic systems based on N-hexylpyridinium bis(trifluoromethylsulfonyl)imide and
Lewis acids were tested as a reaction media to perform the Diels-Alder reaction. Yb, Y, Mg, Zn triflates and chlorides (0.005
to 0.1 mmol) were used as catalysts. The recycling of catalytic system consisted of YCl3 and ionic liquid was performed.

Hydroxyapatite (HAp) was successfully produced from recycled eggshell, seashell and phosphoric acid. The phases obtained depended
on the ratio of calcined eggshell/ seashell to phosphoric acid, the calcination temperature and the mechanochemical activation
method (ball milling or attrition milling). The HAp structures were characterized by X-ray diffraction, scanning electron
microsopy and infrared spectroscopy. Attrition milling was more effective than ball milling, yielding nanosize, homogenous
and pure Hap.

Magnesium-based composites of 75 wt% Mg — (10, 15, 20) wt% Mg2Ni0.7Co0.3 — (15, 10, 5) wt% C mechanically activated for 30
min under argon in a planetary mill, were obtained. Their absorption-desorption characteristics were investigated under a
pressure P = 1 MPa and temperatures of 623, 573, 473, 423 and 373 K. Desorption was carried out at 623 K and 573 K and a pressure
of 0.15 MPa. All the three composites showed improved hydriding kinetics as compared to pure magnesium. However, the desorption
temperature was somewhat higher than needed for practical application.
