Let be a locally compact, non-compact group (we make the non-compactness assumption, for the most part, simply to avoid trivialities). We show that under a very mild assumption on the weight function , the weighted group algebra is strongly Arens irregular in the sense of Dales and Lau; i.e., both topological centres of equal . Also, we show that the topological centre of the algebra equals the weighted measure algebra . Moreover, still in the same situation, we prove that every linear (left) -module map on is automatically bounded, and even --continuous, hence given by convolution with an element in . To this end, we derive a general factorization theorem for bounded families in the -module . Finally, using this result in the case where , we give a short proof of a theorem due to Protasov and Pym, stating that the topological centre of the semigroup is empty, where denotes the -compactification of . This sharpens an earlier result by Lau and Pym; moreover, our method of proof gives a partial answer to a problem raised by Lau and Pym in 1995.

In this paper, we introduce the topological entropy of a free semigroup action generated by proper maps, which extends the notions of the topological entropy of the free semigroup actions defined by Bufetov in 1999 and topological entropy of the proper maps defined by Patrão in 2010. We then give some properties of these notions and discuss the relations between them. We also give a partial variational principle for locally compact separable metric spaces. Moreover, the relationship between topological entropy of the free semigroup generated by proper maps and topological entropy of a skew-product transformation is given. These results extend the results obtained by Patrão, Bufetov and Lin, Ma and Wang in 2018.  相似文献

We search for conditions on a countably compact (pseudocompact) topological semigroup under which: (i) each maximal subgroup H(e) in S is a (closed) topological subgroup in S; (ii) the Clifford part H(S) (i.e. the union of all maximal subgroups) of the semigroup S is a closed subset in S; (iii) the inversion inv: H(S) → H(S) is continuous; and (iv) the projection π: H(S) → E(S), π: xxx −1, onto the subset of idempotents E(S) of S, is continuous.   相似文献

The purpose of this paper is to introduce an algebra of functions on a semitopological semigroup and to study these functions from the point of view of universal semigroup compactification. We show that the corresponding semigroup compactification of this algebra is universal with respect to the property of being a nilpotent group.

Let {X α } α∈Λ be a family of topological spaces and x α X α , for every α ∈ Λ. Suppose X is the quotient space of the disjoint union of X α ’s by identifying x α ’s as one point σ. We try to characterize ideals of C(X) according to the same ideals of C(X α )’s. In addition we generalize the concept of rank of a point, see [9], and then answer the following two algebraic questions. Let m be an infinite cardinal. (1) Is there any ring R and I an ideal in R such that I is an irreducible intersection of m prime ideals? (2) Is there any set of prime ideals of cardinality m in a ring R such that the intersection of these prime ideals can not be obtained as an intersection of fewer than m prime ideals in R? We characterize the existence of the Bishop boundary in the context of an Urysohn (topological) algebra, by means ofG δ points. Considering a subset of its spectrum and the restriction of its Gel'fand transform algebra on the previous subset, we realize its Bishop boundary, as the trace of the Bishop boundary of the initial algebra on the spectrum of the restriction algebra. We get a generalization of the latter by considering a continuous algebra morphism. Following Brualdi and Liu, we order the vertices of D so that exPD(V1) ≤ exPD(V2) …≤ exPD(Vn). Then exPD(Vk) is called the k- point exponent of D and is denoted by exPD (k), 1≤ k ≤ n. In this paper we define e(n, k) := max{expD (k) | D ∈ PD(n, 2)} and E(n, k) := {exPD(k)| D ∈ PD(n, 2)}, where PD(n, 2) is the set of all primitive digraphs of order n with girth 2. This is the continuation of an article from the previous issue. In this part, we focus on the thin P- and Q-polynomial association schemes. We provide some combinatorial characterizations of these objects and exhibit the known examples with diameter at least 6. We introduce a method for studying commutative association schemes with many vanishing intersection numbers and/or Krein parameters, and apply the method to the P- and Q-polynomial schemes. Let Y denote any commutative association scheme, and fix any vertex x of Y. We introduce a non-commutative, associative, semi-simple -algebra T = T(x) whose structure reflects the combinatorial structure of Y. We call T the subconstituent algebra of Y with respect to x. Roughly speaking, T is a combinatorial analog of the centralizer algebra of the stabilizer of x in the automorphism group of Y.In general, the structure of T is not determined by the intersection numbers of Y, but these parameters do give some information. Indeed, we find a relation among the generators of T for each vanishing intersection number or Krein parameter.We identify a class of irreducible T-moduIes whose structure is especially simple, and say the members of this class are thin. Expanding on this, we say Y is thin if every irreducible T(y)-module is thin for every vertex y of Y. We compute the possible thin, irreducible T-modules when Y is P- and Q-polynomial. The ones with sufficiently large dimension are indexed by four bounded integer parameters. If Y is assumed to be thin, then sufficiently large dimension means dimension at least four.We give a combinatorial characterization of the thin P- and Q-polynomial schemes, and supply a number of examples of these objects. For each example, we show which irreducible T-modules actually occur.We close with some conjectures and open problems.  相似文献
