For bases $\mathbf{b}=(b_1, \ldots , b_s)$ of $s$ not necessarily distinct integers $b_i\ge 2$ , we prove a version of the inequality of Erdös–Turán–Koksma for the hybrid function system composed of the Walsh functions in base $\mathbf{b}^{(1)}=(b_1, \ldots , b_{s_1})$ and, as second component, the $\mathbf{b}^{(2)}$ -adic functions, $\mathbf{b}^{(2)}=(b_{s_1+1}, \ldots , b_s)$ , with $s=s_1+s_2$ , $s_1$ and $s_2$ not both equal to 0. Further, we point out why this choice of a hybrid function system covers all possible cases of sequences that employ addition of digit vectors as their main construction principle.  相似文献

The self-affine measure $\mu _{M,D}$ relating to an expanding matrix $M\in M_{n}(\mathbb Z )$ and a finite digit set $D\subset \mathbb Z ^n$ is a unique probability measure satisfying the self-affine identity with equal weight. In the present paper, we shall study the spectrality of $\mu _{M,D}$ in the case when $|\det (M)|=p$ is a prime. The main result shows that under certain mild conditions, if there are two points $s_{1}, s_{2}\in \mathbb R ^{n}, s_{1}-s_{2}\in \mathbb Z ^{n}$ such that the exponential functions $e_{s_{1}}(x), e_{s_{2}}(x)$ are orthogonal in $L^{2}(\mu _{M,D})$ , then the self-affine measure $\mu _{M,D}$ is a spectral measure with lattice spectrum. This gives some sufficient conditions for a self-affine measure to be a lattice spectral measure.  相似文献

We consider the distribution of the orbits of the number 1 under the $\beta $ -transformations $T_\beta $ as $\beta $ varies. Mainly, the size of the set of $\beta >1$ for which a given point can be well approximated by the orbit of 1 is measured by its Hausdorff dimension. The dimension of the following set $E\big (\{\ell _n\}_{n\ge 1}, x_0\big )=\Big \{\,\beta >1: |T^n_{\beta }1-x_0|<\beta ^{-\ell _n}, \hbox { for infinitely many}, \, n\in \mathbb{N }\,\Big \}$ is determined, where $x_0$ is a given point in $[0,1]$ and $\{\ell _n\}_{n\ge 1}$ is a sequence of integers tending to infinity as $n\rightarrow \infty $ . For the proof of this result, the notion of the recurrence time of a word in symbolic space is introduced to characterise the lengths and the distribution of cylinders (the set of $\beta $ with a common prefix in the expansion of 1) in the parameter space $\{\,\beta \in \mathbb{R }: \beta >1\,\}$ .  相似文献

Let $(M,g)$ be a complete Riemannian manifold which satisfies a Sobolev inequality of dimension $n$ , and on which the volume growth is comparable to the one of ${\mathbb{R }}^n$ for big balls; if there is no non-zero $L^2$ harmonic 1-form, and the Ricci tensor is in $L^{\frac{n}{2}-\varepsilon }\cap L^\infty $ for an $\varepsilon >0$ , then we prove a Gaussian estimate on the heat kernel of the Hodge Laplacian acting on 1-forms. This allows us to prove that, under the same hypotheses, the Riesz transform $d\varDelta ^{-1/2}$ is bounded on $L^p$ for all $1<p<\infty $ . Then, in presence of non-zero $L^2$ harmonic 1-forms, we prove that the Riesz transform is still bounded on $L^p$ for all $1<p<n$ , when $n>3$ .  相似文献

We investigate the zeros of a family of hypergeometric polynomials $M_n(x;\beta ,c)=(\beta )_n\,{}_2F_1(-n,-x;\beta ;1-\frac{1}{c})$ , $n\in \mathbb N ,$ known as Meixner polynomials, that are orthogonal on $(0,\infty )$ with respect to a discrete measure for $\beta >0$ and $0<c<1.$ When $\beta =-N$ , $N\in \mathbb N $ and $c=\frac{p}{p-1}$ , the polynomials $K_n(x;p,N)=(-N)_n\,{}_2F_1(-n,-x;-N;\frac{1}{p})$ , $n=0,1,\ldots , N$ , $0<p<1$ are referred to as Krawtchouk polynomials. We prove results for the zero location of the orthogonal polynomials $M_n(x;\beta ,c)$ , $c<0$ and $n<1-\beta $ , the quasi-orthogonal polynomials $M_n(x;\beta ,c)$ , $-k<\beta <-k+1$ , $k=1,\ldots ,n-1$ and $0<c<1$ or $c>1,$ as well as the polynomials $K_{n}(x;p,N)$ with non-Hermitian orthogonality for $0<p<1$ and $n=N+1,N+2,\ldots $ . We also show that the polynomials $M_n(x;\beta ,c)$ , $\beta \in \mathbb R $ are real-rooted when $c\rightarrow 0$ .  相似文献

Let \({s = \{s_{jk}\}_{0 \leq j+k \leq 3}}\) be a given complex-valued sequence. The cubic complex moment problem involves determining necessary and sufficient conditions for the existence of a positive Borel measure \({\sigma}\) on \({\mathbb{C}}\) (called a representing measure for s) such that \({s_{jk} = \int_{\mathbb{C}}\bar{z}^j z^k d\sigma(z)}\) for \({0 \leq j + k \leq 3}\) . Put $$\Phi = \left(\begin{array}{lll} s_{00} & s_{01} & s_{10} \\s_{10} & s_{11} & s_{20} \\s_{01} & s_{02} & s_{11}\end{array}\right), \quad \Phi_z = \left(\begin{array}{lll}s_{01} & s_{02} & s_{11} \\s_{10} & s_{12} & s_{21} \\s_{02} & s_{03} & s_{12}\end{array} \right)\quad {\rm and}\quad\Phi_{\bar{z}} = (\Phi_z)^*.$$ If \({\Phi \succ 0}\) , then the commutativity of \({\Phi^{-1} \Phi_z}\) and \({\Phi^{-1} \Phi_{\bar{z}}}\) is necessary and sufficient for the existence a 3-atomic representing measure for s. If \({\Phi^{-1} \Phi_z}\) and \({\Phi^{-1} \Phi_{\bar{z}}}\) do not commute, then we show that s has a 4-atomic representing measure. The proof is constructive in nature and yields a concrete parametrization of all 4-atomic representing measures of s. Consequently, given a set \({K \subseteq \mathbb{C}}\) necessary and sufficient conditions are obtained for s to have a 4-atomic representing measure \({\sigma}\) which satisfies \({{\rm supp} \sigma \cap K \neq \emptyset}\) or \({{\rm supp} \sigma \subseteq K}\) . The cases when \({K = \overline{\mathbb{D}}}\) and \({K = \mathbb{T}}\) are considered in detail.  相似文献

Let $\alpha $ and $\beta $ be real numbers such that $1$ , $\alpha $ and $\beta $ are linearly independent over $\mathbb {Q}$ . A classical result of Dirichlet asserts that there are infinitely many triples of integers $(x_0,x_1,x_2)$ such that $|x_0+\alpha x_1+\beta x_2| < \max \{|x_1|,|x_2|\}^{-2}$ . In 1976, Schmidt asked what can be said under the restriction that $x_1$ and $x_2$ be positive. Upon denoting by $\gamma \cong 1.618$ the golden ratio, he proved that there are triples $(x_0,x_1,x_2) \in \mathbb {Z}^3$ with $x_1,x_2>0$ for which the product $|x_0 + \alpha x_1 + \beta x_2| \max \{|x_1|,|x_2|\}^\gamma $ is arbitrarily small. Although Schmidt later conjectured that $\gamma $ can be replaced by any number smaller than $2$ , Moshchevitin proved very recently that it cannot be replaced by a number larger than $1.947$ . In this paper, we present a construction of points $(1,\alpha ,\beta )$ showing that the result of Schmidt is in fact optimal. These points also possess strong additional Diophantine properties that are described in the paper.  相似文献

We consider the problem $$\begin{aligned} -\Delta u=\varepsilon ^{2}e^{u}- \frac{1}{|\Omega |}\int _\Omega \varepsilon ^{2} e^{u}+ {4\pi N\over |\Omega |} - 4 \pi N\delta _p, \quad \text{ in} {\Omega }, \quad \int _\Omega u=0 \end{aligned}$$ in a flat two-torus $\Omega $ with periodic boundary conditions, where $\varepsilon >0,\,|\Omega |$ is the area of the $\Omega $ , $N>0$ and $\delta _p$ is a Dirac mass at $p\in \Omega $ . We prove that if $1\le m<N+1$ then there exists a family of solutions $\{u_\varepsilon \}_{\varepsilon }$ such that $\varepsilon ^{2}e^{u_\varepsilon }\rightharpoonup 8\pi \sum _{i=1}^m\delta _{q_i}$ as $\varepsilon \rightarrow 0$ in measure sense for some different points $q_{1}, \ldots , q_{m}$ . Furthermore, points $q_i$ , $i=1,\dots ,m$ are different from $p$ .  相似文献

Let $f$ be a Hecke–Maass cuspidal newform of square-free level $N$ and Laplacian eigenvalue $\lambda $ . It is shown that $\left||f \right||_\infty \ll _{\lambda ,\epsilon } N^{-\frac{1}{6}+\epsilon } \left||f \right||_2$ for any $\epsilon >0$ .  相似文献

In this paper, we consider the complex Ginzburg–Landau equation ${u_t = e^{i\theta} [\Delta u + |u|^\alpha u] + \gamma u}$ on ${\mathbb{R}^N}$ , where ${\alpha > 0,\,\gamma \in \mathbb{R}}$ and ${-\pi /2 < \theta < \pi /2}$ . By convexity arguments, we prove that, under certain conditions on ${\alpha,\theta,\gamma}$ , a class of solutions with negative initial energy blows up in finite time.  相似文献

Let $\Delta _{n-1}$ denote the $(n-1)$ -dimensional simplex. Let $Y$ be a random $d$ -dimensional subcomplex of $\Delta _{n-1}$ obtained by starting with the full $(d-1)$ -dimensional skeleton of $\Delta _{n-1}$ and then adding each $d$ -simplex independently with probability $p=\frac{c}{n}$ . We compute an explicit constant $\gamma _d$ , with $\gamma _2 \simeq 2.45$ , $\gamma _3 \simeq 3.5$ , and $\gamma _d=\Theta (\log d)$ as $d \rightarrow \infty $ , so that for $c < \gamma _d$ such a random simplicial complex either collapses to a $(d-1)$ -dimensional subcomplex or it contains $\partial \Delta _{d+1}$ , the boundary of a $(d+1)$ -dimensional simplex. We conjecture this bound to be sharp. In addition, we show that there exists a constant $\gamma _d< c_d <d+1$ such that for any $c>c_d$ and a fixed field $\mathbb{F }$ , asymptotically almost surely $H_d(Y;\mathbb{F }) \ne 0$ .  相似文献

We examine the fourth order problem $\Delta ^2 u = \lambda f(u) $ in $ \Omega $ with $ \Delta u = u =0 $ on $ {\partial \Omega }$ , where $ \lambda > 0$ is a parameter, $ \Omega $ is a bounded domain in $\mathbb{R }^N$ and where $f$ is one of the following nonlinearities: $ f(u)=e^u$ , $ f(u)=(1+u)^p $ or $ f(u)= \frac{1}{(1-u)^p}$ where $ p>1$ . We show the extremal solution is smooth, provided $$\begin{aligned} N < 2 + 4 \sqrt{2} + 4 \sqrt{ 2 - \sqrt{2}} \approx 10.718 \text{ when} f(u)=e^u, \end{aligned}$$ and $$\begin{aligned} N < \frac{4p}{p-1} + \frac{4(p+1)}{p-1} \left( \sqrt{ \frac{2p}{p+1}} + \sqrt{ \frac{2p}{p+1} - \sqrt{ \frac{2p}{p+1}}} - \frac{1}{2} \right) \end{aligned}$$ when $ f(u)=(u+1)^p$ . New results are also obtained in the case where $ f(u)=(1-u)^{-p}$ . These are substantial improvements to various results on critical dimensions obtained recently by various authors. To do that, we derive a new stability inequality satisfied by minimal solutions of the above equation, which is more amenable to estimates as it allows a method of proof reminiscent of the second order case.  相似文献

The normal rank of a group is the minimal number of elements whose normal closure coincides with the group. We study the relation between the normal rank of a group and its first $\ell ^2$ -Betti number and conjecture the inequality $\beta _1^{(2)}(G) \le \mathrm{nrk}(G)-1$ for torsion free groups. The conjecture is proved for limits of left-orderable amenable groups. On the other hand, for every $n\ge 2$ and every $\varepsilon >0$ , we give an example of a simple group $Q$ (with torsion) such that $\beta _1^{(2)}(Q) \ge n-1-\varepsilon $ . These groups also provide examples of simple groups of rank exactly $n$ for every $n\ge 2$ ; existence of such examples for $n> 3$ was unknown until now.  相似文献

Let $q\ge 3$ and $2\le r\le \phi (q)$ be positive integers, and $a_1,\ldots ,a_r$ be distinct reduced residue classes modulo $q$ . Rubinstein and Sarnak defined $\delta (q;a_1,\ldots ,a_r)$ to be the logarithmic density of the set of real numbers $x$ such that $\pi (x;q,a_1)>\pi (x;q,a_2)>\cdots >\pi (x;q,a_r)$ . In this paper, we establish an asymptotic formula for $\delta (q;a_1,\ldots ,a_r)$ when $r\ge 3$ is fixed and $q$ is large. Several applications concerning these prime number races are then deduced. First, comparing with a recent work of Fiorilli and Martin on the case $r=2$ , we show that these densities behave differently when $r\ge 3$ . Another surprising consequence of our results is that, unlike two-way races, biases do appear in races involving three or more squares (or non-squares) to large moduli. Furthermore, we establish a partial result towards a conjecture of Rubinstein and Sarnak on biased races, and disprove a recent conjecture of Feuerverger and Martin concerning bias factors. Lastly, we use our method to derive the Fiorilli and Martin asymptotic formula for the densities when $r=2$ .  相似文献

Consider an $n \times n$ Hermitian random matrix with, above the diagonal, independent entries with $\alpha $ -stable symmetric distribution and $0 < \alpha < 2$ . We establish new bounds on the rate of convergence of the empirical spectral distribution of this random matrix as $n$ goes to infinity. When $1 < \alpha < 2$ and $ p > 2$ , we give vanishing bounds on the $L^p$ -norm of the eigenvectors normalized to have unit $L^2$ -norm. On the contrary, when $0 < \alpha < 2/3$ , we prove that these eigenvectors are localized.  相似文献

We prove some Liouville type results for stable solutions to the biharmonic problem $\Delta ^2 u= u^q, \,u>0$ in $\mathbb{R }^n$ where $1 < q < \infty $ . For example, for $n \ge 5$ , we show that there are no stable classical solution in $\mathbb{R }^n$ when $\frac{n+4}{n-4} < q \le \left(\frac{n-8}{n}\right)_+^{-1}$ .  相似文献

We use a concise method to construct pseudo-automorphisms $f_n$ of the first dynamical degree $d_1(f_n) > 1$ on the blowups of the projective $n$ -space for all $n \ge 2$ and more generally on the blowups of products of projective spaces. These $f_n$ , for $n=3$ have positive entropy, and for $n\ge 4$ seem to be the first examples of pseudo-automorphisms with $d_1(f_n) > 1$ (and of non-product type) on rational varieties of higher dimensions.  相似文献

We study the solvability of the quasilinear problem $$\begin{aligned} -\Delta _p u =\frac{u^q }{|x|^p}+g(\lambda , x, u) \quad u>0 \quad \text{ in}\;\Omega , \end{aligned}$$ with $u=0$ on $\partial \Omega $ , where $-\Delta _p(\cdot )$ is the $p$ -Laplacian operator, $q>0, 1<p<N$ and $\Omega $ a smooth bounded domain in $\mathbb R ^N$ . We consider the following cases:
  1. $g(\lambda ,x,u)\equiv 0$ ;
  2. $g(\lambda ,x,u)=\lambda f(x)u^r$ , with $\lambda >0$ and $f(x) \gneq 0$ belonging to $L^{\infty }(\Omega )$ and $0 \le r<p-1$ .
In the case $(i)$ , the existence of solutions depends on the location of the origin in the domain, on the geometry of the domain and on the exponent $q$ . On the other hand, in the case $(ii)$ , the existence of solutions only depends on the position of the origin and on the coefficient $\lambda $ , but does not depend either on the exponent $q$ or on the geometry of $\Omega $ .  相似文献

We propose a first-order augmented Lagrangian algorithm (FALC) to solve the composite norm minimization problem $$\begin{aligned} \begin{array}{ll} \min \limits _{X\in \mathbb{R }^{m\times n}}&\mu _1\Vert \sigma (\mathcal{F }(X)-G)\Vert _\alpha +\mu _2\Vert \mathcal{C }(X)-d\Vert _\beta ,\\ \text{ subject} \text{ to}&\mathcal{A }(X)-b\in \mathcal{Q }, \end{array} \end{aligned}$$ where $\sigma (X)$ denotes the vector of singular values of $X \in \mathbb{R }^{m\times n}$ , the matrix norm $\Vert \sigma (X)\Vert _{\alpha }$ denotes either the Frobenius, the nuclear, or the $\ell _2$ -operator norm of $X$ , the vector norm $\Vert .\Vert _{\beta }$ denotes either the $\ell _1$ -norm, $\ell _2$ -norm or the $\ell _{\infty }$ -norm; $\mathcal{Q }$ is a closed convex set and $\mathcal{A }(.)$ , $\mathcal{C }(.)$ , $\mathcal{F }(.)$ are linear operators from $\mathbb{R }^{m\times n}$ to vector spaces of appropriate dimensions. Basis pursuit, matrix completion, robust principal component pursuit (PCP), and stable PCP problems are all special cases of the composite norm minimization problem. Thus, FALC is able to solve all these problems in a unified manner. We show that any limit point of FALC iterate sequence is an optimal solution of the composite norm minimization problem. We also show that for all $\epsilon >0$ , the FALC iterates are $\epsilon $ -feasible and $\epsilon $ -optimal after $\mathcal{O }(\log (\epsilon ^{-1}))$ iterations, which require $\mathcal{O }(\epsilon ^{-1})$ constrained shrinkage operations and Euclidean projection onto the set $\mathcal{Q }$ . Surprisingly, on the problem sets we tested, FALC required only $\mathcal{O }(\log (\epsilon ^{-1}))$ constrained shrinkage, instead of the $\mathcal{O }(\epsilon ^{-1})$ worst case bound, to compute an $\epsilon $ -feasible and $\epsilon $ -optimal solution. To best of our knowledge, FALC is the first algorithm with a known complexity bound that solves the stable PCP problem.  相似文献
