A modified Yafet-Kittle model is applied to investigate the magnetic properties and magnetic phase transition of the intermetallic compound GdMn_2Ge_2. Theoretical analysis and calculation show that there are five possible magnetic structures in GdMn_2Ge_2. Variations of external magnetic field and temperature give rise to the first-order or second-order magnetic transitions from one phase to another. Based on this model, the magnetic curves of GdMn_2Ge_2 single crystals at different temperatures are calculated and a good agreement with experimental data has obtained. Based on the calculation, the H-T magnetic phase diagrams of GdMn_2Ge_2 are depicted. The Gd-Gd, Gd-Mn, intralayer Mn-Mn and interlayer Mn-Mn exchange coupling parameters are estimated. It is shown that, in order to describe the magnetic properties of GdMn_2Ge_2, the lattice constant and temperature dependence of interlayer Mn-Mn exchange interaction must be taken into account.  相似文献

Our recent studies of the crystal structures, phase transitions, and magnetic properties of intermetallic compounds RsM4 (R = rare earths; M = Si, Ge) are reviewed briefly. First, crystal structures, phase relationships, and magnetic prop- erties of several 5:4 compounds, including Nd5 Si4-xGex, Pr5 Si4_xGex, Gds-xLaxGe4, La5 Si4, and Gd5 Sn4, are presented. In particular, the canted spin structures as well as the magnetic phase transitions in PrsSi2Ge2 and PrsGe4 investigated by neutron powder diffractions and small-angle neutron scattering are reviewed. Second, the crystal structures and magnetic properties of the most studied compounds Gds(Si,Ge)4 are summarized. The focus is on the parent compound GdsGe4, which is an amazing material exhibiting magnetic anisotropy, angular dependent spin-flop transition, metastable magnetic response, Griffiths-like phase, thermal effect under pulsed fields, antiferromagnetic and ferromagnetic resonances, pro- nounced effects of impurities, and high-field induced magnetic transitions.  相似文献

Since the discovery of giant magnetocaloric effect in MnFeP1-x As x compounds,much valuable work has been performed to develop and improve Fe2P-type transition-metal-based magnetic refrigerants.In this article,the recent progress of our studies on fundamental aspects of theoretical considerations and experimental techniques,effects of atomic substitution on the magnetism and magnetocalorics of Fe2P-type intermetallic compounds MnFeX(X=P,As,Ge,Si) is reviewed.Substituting Si(or Ge) for As leads to an As-free new magnetic material MnFeP1-xSi(Ge)x.These new materials show large magnetocaloric effects resembling MnFe(P,As) near room temperature.Some new physical phenomena,such as huge thermal hysteresis and ’virgin’ effect,were found in new materials.On the basis of Landau theory,a theoretical model was developed for studying the mechanism of phase transition in these materials.Our studies reveal that MnFe(P,Si) compound is a very promising material for room-temperature magnetic refrigeration and thermo-magnetic power generation.  相似文献

The unit cell volume and phase transition temperature of LaFe11.4Al1.6Cx compounds have been studied. The magnetic entropy change, refrigerant capacity and the type of magnetic phase transition are investigated in detail for LaFe11.4Al1.6Cx with x=0.1, All the LaFe11.4Al1.6Cx (x=0-0.8) compounds have the cubic NaZn13-type structure. The addition of carbon atoms brings about a considerable increase in the lattice parameter. The bulk expansion results in the change of phase transition temperature (Tc), Tc increases from 187K to 269 K with x varying from 0.1 to 0.8, Meanwhile an increase in the lattice parameter can also cause a change of the magnetic ground state from antiferromagnetic to ferromagnetic. Large magnetic entropy change IASI is found over a large temperature range around Tc and the refrigerant capacity is about 322J/kg for LaFe11.4Al1.6C0.1. The magnetic phase transition belongs in weakly first-order one for x=0.1.  相似文献

Investigations made by powder X-ray diffraction, magnetic measurements and neutron powder diffraction on the CeScSi-type ternary magnesium plumbides RMgPb (R=Ce–Nd, Sm, Gd–Tm) are reported. Macroscopic magnetic measurements performed in the 2–300 K temperature range show that these compounds follow a Curie–Weiss law in the paramagnetic state (except SmMgPb) and behave antiferromagnetically at low temperature (TΝ≤61 K). Field dependence of the magnetization performed at 5 K evidence metamagnetic-like behaviors (Hcrit<7 T). Neutron powder diffraction evidenced complex antiferromagnetic structures in fair agreement with the magnetic data. PrMgPb and NdMgPb compounds present a commensurate antiferromagnetic structure, while (Tb–Er)MgPb are characterized by incommensurate sine-wave modulated magnetic structure down to lower temperature or square-wave magnetic structure due to appearance of higher odd integer harmonics. CeMgPb and TmMgPb evidence more complex sine-wave modulated magnetic structures, never encountered with the CeScSi-type structure, characterized by two propagation vectors. These results are discussed and compared with those of the isotypic RMgSn compounds.  相似文献

The magnetic properties and magnetoresistance effect of YMn6Sn6-x Crx(x=0-0.8) compounds have been experimentally studied by magnetic properties and resistivity measurements in the applied field range 0-5T.The compound (x=0.8) displays a ferromagnetic behaviour,while the compounds (x=0-0.4) display an antiferromagnetic behaviour in the whole ordering temperature range.The compounds(x=0.5,0.6) experienced a transition from an antiferromagnetic state to a ferromagnetic state with increasing temperature.The compound with x=0.8 is rapidly saturated in the lower magnetic field with saturation magnetization of 35.92emu/g.The compounds(x=0-0.6) display a field-induced metamagnetic transition,and the threshold fields decrease with increasing Cr content.The cell-volume V of compounds(x=0-0.8) increases,and the ordering temperature decreases with the increasing Cr content.A large magnetoresistance effect was observed for the compounds (x=0.4,0.5),and the maximum absolute value at 5K are 32% and 24% under 5T for x=0.4 and x=0.5,respectively.  相似文献

The magnetic properties of the intermetallic compounds Gd1?x LaxMn2Ge2 (layered tetragonal crystal structure of the type ThCr2Si2), investigated in the present work and in [1] A. Sokolov, et al., Sol. State Commun. 105, 289 (1998), are discussed. It is shown that the basic characteristics of the magnetic ordering of these compounds—magnetic phase transitions from the ferrimagnetic into the antiferromagnetic state and vice versa—observed with increasing temperature in compositions with x < 0.1, the effect of a magnetic field on these transitions, the temperature dependences of the magnetization of these intermetallic compounds, as well as their magnetic T-x diagram can be described quantitatively in the Yafet-Kittel model for ferrimagnets with a negative exchange interaction in one of the sublattices using parameters determined in [2] A. Yu. Sokolov et al., JETP 89, 723 (1999) from investigations of the system Gd1?x YxMn2Ge2, taking into account the dependence of the interplanar exchange interaction Mn-Mn on the crystal lattice parameter a.  相似文献

We observed the linear-to-zigzag structural phase transition of a ^40Ca^+ crystal in a homemade linear Paul trap. The values of the total temperature of the ion crystals during the phase transition are derived using the molecular-dynamics(MD) simulation method. A series of simulations revealed that the ratio of the radial to axial secular frequencies has a dependence on the total temperature that obeys different functional forms for linear and zigzag structures, and the transition point occurs where these functions intersect; thus, the critical value of the ratio of secular frequencies that drives the structure phase transition can be derived.  相似文献

Measurements of heat capacity indicate that the Mn moment in YMn2 has an itinerant character and an additional CM is observable even above TN. In GdMn2, the Gd moments are in disorder at TN simultaneously with the Mn moments. The CEF contributions in ErMn2 are observed and are calculated using a single-ion Hamiltonian.  相似文献

EuTi0_3是直接带隙半导体材料,在液氦温度附近呈现反铁磁性,且具有较大的磁熵变,但是当其转变为铁磁性时,可以有效提高低磁场下的磁熵变.本文通过元素替代,研究晶格常数的变化和电子掺杂对磁性和磁热效应的影响.实验采用溶胶凝胶法制备EuTiO_3和Eu_(0.9)M_(0.1)TiO_3 (M=Ca, Sr, Ba, La, Ce, Sm)系列样品.结果表明:大离子半径的碱土金属离子替代提高了铁磁性耦合,有利于提高低磁场下的磁热效应.电子掺杂可以抑制其反铁磁性耦合从而使其表现为铁磁性.当大离子半径的稀土La和Ce离子替代Eu离子时,既增大了晶格常数也实现了电子掺杂,表现出较强的铁磁性.在1 T的磁场变化下,Eu_(0.9)La_(0.1)TiO_3和Eu_(0.9)Ce_(0.1)TiO_3的最大磁熵变分别为10.8和11 J/(kg·K),均大于EuTi0_3的9.8 J/(kg·K);制冷能力分别为39.3和51.8 J/kg,相对于EuTi0_3也有所提高.  相似文献

Magnetic and magnetocaloric properties of the compound Ce5Ge4 have been studied. This compound has orthorhombic Sm5Ge4-type structure (space group Pnma, no. 62) and orders ferromagnetically at ~12 K (TC). The paramagnetic Curie temperature is ~−20 K suggesting the presence of competing ferromagnetic and antiferromagnetic interactions in this compound. The magnetization does not seem to saturate even in fields of 90 kOe at 3 K consistent with the presence of competing interactions. Saturation magnetization value (extrapolated to 1/H→0) of only 0.8μB/Ce3+ is obtained compared to the free ion value of 2.14μB/Ce3+. This moment reduction in the ordered state of Ce5Ge4 could be due to partial antiferromagnetic/paramagnetic ordering of the Ce moments and may also be due to crystalline electric field effects. Magnetic entropy change near TC, calculated from the magnetization vs. field data, is found to be moderate with a maximum value of ~9 J/kg/K at ~11 K for a field change of 90 kOe.  相似文献

The crystal structure, magnetic and magnetostrictive properties of high-pressure synthesized PrxNd1-xFe1.9 (0≤x≤1.0) alloys were studied. The alloys exhibit single cubic Laves phase with MgCu2-type structure. The initial magnetization curve reveals that Pr0.2Nd0.8Fe1.9 has a minimum magnetocrystalline anisotropy at 5 K. The magnetostriction curve at 5 K shows that Pr0.2Nd0.8Fe1.9 has a very good low-field magnetostrictive property, and the magnetostriction of the PrxNd1-xFe1.9 alloy in high magnetic field is attributable mainly to Pr. The temperature dependence of the magnetostriction (λ||) at the field of 5 kOe shows that the substitution of Nd reduces the K1 remarkably, and the values of λ|| of Pr0.2Nd0.8Fe1.9 and Pr0.8Nd0.2Fe1.9 alloys are nearly five times larger than that of PrFe1.9 alloy below 50 K; the λ|| of Pr0.8Nd0.2Fe1.9 reaches up to 1082 ppm at 100 K, which makes it a potential candidate for application in this temperature range.  相似文献

The 55Mn NMR in RMn2Ge2 (R= La,Nd and Gd) were observed as a function of temperature. In Nd and Gd compounds the 55Mn NMR frequencies exhibit anomalous temperature dependences owing the effects of rare earth sublattices. The ordering temperatures of the Nd and Gd sublattices are found to be 30 and 95 K, respectively.  相似文献

A series of (La_{1-x}Tb_x)_{2/3}Sr_{1/3}MnO_3 polycrystalline samples has been studied by means of x-ray diffraction, magnetostriction, and thermal expansion measurements. It has been found that this series undergoes a phase transition from a rhombohedral to an orthorhombic form at the doping level x≈0.20 at room temperature accompanied by an anisotropic magnetostriction up to -50×10^{-6} under a magnetic field of 1T. The linear and volume magnetostrictions vary with chemical composition, even change sign. At T=80K, the magnetostrictions for the samples of x=0.20 and 0.40 exhibit different behaviours. The sample of x=0.20 has positive volume and linear magnetostrictions and a negative anisotropic magnetostriction, while the sample of x=0.40 has an opposite behaviour. The magnitude of volume magnetostriction for both the samples is essential (~10^{-4}) at T=80K under a magnetic field of 4T. We conclude that these anomalous effects are due to the charge delocalization and the structural phase transition between orthorhombic and rhombohedral forms induced by the applied magnetic field.  相似文献
