The effects of temperature and humidity during γ irradiation on the response of two types of film dosimeters (Far Wesr radiachromic and GafChromic films) were studied in the dose range of 0.3–3 kGy. Both films show a significant effect of temperature and humidity and a simple correction function is proposed. This correction is usually between 5 and 10% for the range studied.

For the GafChromic film, a colour change at temperatures above 50°C was observed and, consequently, this system cannot be used at these temperatures. At lower temperatures down to - 70°C the sensitivity of both films is reduced and a simple correction is possible. In this study and for the dose ranges used, only a slight dependence on humidity was observed for both films from 0 to 60% r.h. Whereas the GafChromic film at humidities up to 90% r.h. shows only a moderate effect, the Far West films shows a considerable inconsistency for the dose range studied. A simple correction function may be applied for humidity effects, except for the Far West film above 60% r.h. where the effect of humidity is also dose dependent.  相似文献

The irradiation temperature dependence of the 60Co gamma-ray dose response of a silver-dichromate dosimeter was studied to verify temperature coefficients over 5–60°C, using both low and high range standard-type dosimeters. The temperature coefficients in the temperature range 25–60°C are estimated to be −0.20 and −0.26%/°C respectively at doses 2–10 kGy and 10–50 kGy, although there is a slight tendency of dose dependence. The coefficients covering temperatures of 25–50°C estimated to low and high dose ranges are respectively −0.20 and −0.23%/°C which lead us to confirm the previous data including the ASTM Standards E1401-96, 1997. The effect of temperature during spectrophotometry analysis on molar extinction coefficients was not appreciably observed in the temperature range 5–50°C.  相似文献

Radix W, a clear poly(methyl-methacrylate) (PMMA) dosimeter was developed with improved properties compared to the conventional clear PMMA dosimeter, Radix RN15. PMMA with a glass transition temperature (Tg) higher than 120 °C was selected making it possible to measure doses in a wide range of 1 to 150 kGy. Dose rates of 2.5–10 kGy/h were tested and did not affect significantly the dose response. The influence of irradiation temperature was reduced compared with Radix RN15.  相似文献

Previous studies have reported that separately from UV-radiation also blue light influences cellular physiology in different cell types. However, little is known about the blue light action spectrum. The purpose of this study was to investigate effects of blue light at distinct wavelengths (410, 420, 453, 480 nm) emitted by well defined light-emitting-diodes on viability, proliferation and antioxidative capacity of human dermal fibroblasts. We found that irradiation with blue light (410, 420 nm) led to intracellular oxidative stress and toxic effects in a dose and wavelength dependent manner. No toxicity was observed using light at 453 nm and 480 nm. Furthermore, blue light (410, 420, 453 nm) at low doses reduced the antioxidative capacity of fibroblasts. At non-toxic doses, irradiations at 410, 420 and 453 nm reduced proliferation indicating a higher susceptibility of proliferating fibroblasts to blue light. Our results show that blue light at different wavelengths may induce varying degrees of intracellular oxidative stress with different physiological outcome, which could contribute to premature skin photoaging. On the other hand, the use of blue light due to its antiproliferative and toxic properties may represent a new approach in treatment and prevention of keloids, hypertrophic scars and fibrotic skin diseases.  相似文献

The behavior of the poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) under the action of gamma radiation has been sufficiently studied. In this work, we present results from melt flow index (MFI), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) of PMMA composites with hydroxyapatite (HA) and seaweed residues (SW) irradiated with gamma rays at 1.08 kGy/h. Composites of PMMA/HA and PMMA/SW with 10%, 20% and 30% of the filler were prepared. The results show an increase in the MFI values with the integral dose of radiation, being consistent with chain-scission reactions. No EPR signal was observed in pure PMMA, while in the composites, the typical EPR signal of the PMMA radicals was observed, which increased with the amount of HA or SW. When comparing the relative intensities of the EPR signals for both types of composites, a slight increase in the concentration of free radicals generated in the sample with SW respect to that of PMMA/HA composite was obtained. A decay of the total free radical concentration was observed as time elapsed.  相似文献

In the industrial setting it is not uncommon for a process interruption to occur during irradiation. In this event, dosimeters may be exposed to prolonged periods of elevated temperature without exposure to ionizing radiation. Once the process is restarted, the same dosimeters are exposed to ionizing radiation in order to achieve target dose. The goal of this experiment was to simulate a process interruption within limits and quantify the effects of a combination of factors (heat, time, and fractionation) on dosimeter response. We present an in-depth experimental study on the response of dosimeters that have been irradiated, stored for a fixed period of time at several temperatures, and then re-irradiated. This study was performed using Harwell Red 4034 polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA) and Kodak BioMax alanine film dosimeters.  相似文献

Test has been conducted for the response of electret radon dosimeters with varying levels of humidity. At a constant value of radon concentration, measured values have been found to increase linearly with increasing humidity, from 30% RH up to a value of 85% RH. On this basis we argue for the establishment of a humidity-dependent calibration factor.  相似文献

The quick development concerning the commercial application of food irradiation in the USA recently resulted in growing marketing of irradiated red meat as well as irradiated fresh and dried fruits. These gamma and electron irradiation technologies require specific dosimetry systems for process control. The new version of the Sunna dosimeter has been characterized in gamma, electron and bremsstrahlung radiation fields by measuring the optically stimulated luminescence (osl) at 530 nm both below and above 1 kGy, i.e. for disinfestation and for meat irradiation purposes. No humidity and no significant dose rate effect on the green osl signal was observed. The temperature coefficient was determined from 0°C up to about 40°C and to stabilize the osl signal after irradiation a heat treatment method was introduced. Based on these investigations the Sunna ‘gamma’ film is a suitable candidate for dose control below and above 1 kGy for food irradiation technologies.  相似文献

The effects on the radiation response of Harwell polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA) dosimeters of dose-rate, radiation type, temperature during irradiation and post-irradiation storage, and post-irradiation stability, are of importance to the operators of commercial irradiation facilities.

This paper describes recent studies of the effects of some of these parameters on the radiation response of Harwell Red 4034, Amber 3042, and Gammachrome YR Perspex dosimeters, and provides data on batch to batch variation and shelf-life.  相似文献

Reactions of As(III) and As(V) with pyrite were investigated using pristine pyrite (produced and reacted in a rigorously anoxic environment with PO2 < 10−8 atm) and using surface-oxidized pyrite (produced under anoxic conditions, exposed to air, then stored and reacted under rigorously anoxic conditions). Results with surface-oxidized pyrite were similar to previously reported arsenic-pyrite results. However As(III) adsorbed over a broader pH range on pristine pyrite than on surface-oxidized pyrite, As(V) adsorbed over a narrower pH range on pristine pyrite than on surface-oxidized pyrite, and adsorbed As(V) on pristine pyrite was reduced to As(III) but adsorbed As(V) was not reduced with surface-oxidized pyrite. Reduction of As(V) with pristine pyrite was first-order in total As(V), Fe(II) was released, and sulfur was oxidized. The proposed mechanism for pyrite oxidation by As(V) was similar to the published mechanism for oxidation by O2 and rates were compared. The results can be used to predict the removals of As(V) and As(III) on pyrite in continuously anoxic environments or on pyrite in intermittently oxic/anoxic environments. Rigorous cleanup and continuous maintenance of strictly anoxic conditions are required if commercial or produced pyrites are to be used as surrogates for pristine pyrite.  相似文献

Dilute aqueous solution of cresol red has been evaluated spectrophotometrically as possible gamma rays dosimeter. A 0.10 mM solution of cresol red was irradiated by gamma rays using a cobalt-60 radiation source. The absorbance spectra of the unirradiated and irradiated solutions were recorded using double beam scanning spectrophotometer. The absorbance of the solution before and after irradiation was measured at 434 nm (λmax) as well as at other wavelengths (415, 448 and 470 nm). Various parameters, such as Absorbance (A), ΔA, %A, -log A and log Ao/Ai were plotted against radiation dose, in order to check the response of cresol red solution and its possible use as chemical dosimeter. The response plots of A, ΔA, and %A versus absorbed dose showed that the solution can be used as a radiation dosimeter in a dose range up to 0.82 kGy. Using response plots of -log A and log Ao/Ai, the useful dose range can be extended up to 1.65 kGy; which are useful dose ranges for food irradiation applications. Stability studies of cresol red solution at different light and temperature conditions for pre- and post-irradiated storage of the dosimetric solutions suggested that aqueous solution of cresol red is highly stable in dark, under fluorescence light and at room temperature up to 150 days  相似文献

Energy dependence of the radiation chemical yield of hydrochloric acid, G(HCl), of chlorobenzene-ethanol-trimethylpentane (CET) dosimetry system was investigated to medium energy X-rays (210, 150 and 120 kV maximum energy). In the dose range 50–150 Gy the concentrations of chloride ions were determined spectrophotometrically. Reference dosimetry for all measurements was carried out by the Fricke dosimeter. There was no change of radiation chemical yield of chloride ions with photon energy throughout the X-ray energy range applied in this work, i.e. down to the mean energy of about 50 keV.  相似文献

The newly manufactured N-isopropylacrylamide (NIPAM) polymer gel is composed of four components, i.e., gelatin, monomer (NIPAM), crosslinker (N,N’-methylenebisacrylamide, Bis), and antioxidant (tetrakis hydroxymethyl phosphonium chloride, THPC). In this study, we investigated the effects of gel composition on the dose response of NIPAM polymer gel. A statistical experiment to analyze the contribution of each composition to the linearity and sensitivity of NIPAM gel was performed. Results indicate that the amount of gelatin, NIPAM (15.17%), Bis, and THPC have dominant effects on the sensitivity of the gel, with contributions of 59.73, 15.17, 10.64, and 14.45%, respectively. The amount of gelatin and Bis mainly affected the linearity of the gel, with contributions of 44.70 and 50.99%, respectively. The linearity of most compositions of the gel was greater than 0.99 when (%C)/(%T) was lower than 8.0. Optimal (%C)/(%T) for higher sensitivity should be in the range of 4−9. The temporal stability experiment showed that the dose response curve attained stability at about 5 h after irradiation and persisted up to 3 months.  相似文献

Creep tests of an epoxy resin during bending and irradiation have been carried out to investigate the synergistic effects of radiation and stress on mechanical properties of the resin. Simultaneous application of stress and irradiation on the epoxy resin enhanced creep rates in comparison with the application of stress on an irradiated sample. In order to clarify the mechanism of the radiation-induced creep, measurements of solvent swelling of specimens have been performed. The swelling increased with the dose and the increase of the swelling corresponds to the increase of the chain scission. The mechanism of increased deformation of the resin during irradiation is proposed to be caused by increased chain scission following the release of the local strain energy.  相似文献

Aqueous solution of coumarin (-benzopyrone) has been evaluated spectrophotometrically as a -ray dosimeter. In the present study measurements have been made at peak wavelength of 347 nm as well as at two other wavelengths (i. e. 360 and 370 nm). The response of the dosimeter with respect to absorbed dose is linear in the range of 0.05 to 0.5 kGy when absorption measurements are made at 347 nm. However, this dose range can be increased up to 0.8 kGy if analyzed at longer wavelengths of 360 and 370 nm. Postirradiation stability at room temperature in the dark show that the response increases gradually till 6 d. Afterwards the response is almost stabilized up to 42 d at all the wavelengths studied.  相似文献

Aqueous solution of ferrous-cupric sulfate has been evaluated spectrophotometrically as radiation dosimeter and post-irradiation stability at different storage temperatures has been studied. The response curve drawn at a peak wavelength of 304 nm shows a linear response of up to 7 kGy. However, with proper calibration, the system can be used up to 14 kGy. At room temperature (ca. 25 °C) in the dark, the irradiated solution showed stable response up to about 12 h, followed by a small decrease in response up to 20 d. Post-irradiation storage at lower temperature (10 °C) shows no significant change in absorbance over a storage period of 6 d. However, for storage at higher temperature (40 °C) the dosimeter showed a stable response only up to a few hours and at longer storage times the response of the dosimeter increased.  相似文献

Signaling by estrogens, risk factors in breast cancer, is mediated through their binding to the estrogen receptor protein (ER), followed by the formation of a complex between ER and a DNA sequence, called estrogen response element (ERE). Anti-estrogens act as competitive inhibitors by blocking the signal transduction. We have studied in vitro the radiosensitivity of the complex between ERα, a subtype of this receptor, and a DNA fragment bearing ERE, as well as the influence of an estrogen (estradiol) or an anti-estrogen (tamoxifen) on this radiosensitivity. We observe that the complex is destabilized upon irradiation with γ rays in aerated aqueous solution. The analysis of the decrease of binding abilities of the two partners shows that destabilization is mainly due to the damage to the protein. The destabilization is reduced when irradiating in presence of tamoxifen and is increased in presence of estradiol. These effects are due to opposite influences of the ligands on the loss of binding ability of ER. The mechanism that can account for our results is: binding of estradiol or tamoxifen induces distinct structural changes of the ER ligand-binding domain that can trigger (by allostery) distinct structural changes of the ER DNA-binding domains and thus, can differently affect ER-ERE interaction.  相似文献

The glass transition temperature and heat capacity have been determined by differential scanning calorimetry on samples of heterotacticlike monodisperse poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA). The nuclear magnetic resonace spectra of these samples reveal that they contain a larger percentage of mr triads (ca. 51%) than atactic polymers and that their microstructure may be predominantly stereoregular because of an abundance of mrrr sequences. We combine our Tg values with data from the literature for PMMAs of other tacticities, in order to analyze the correlation of Tg with tacticity. In this analysis, we consider PMMA as a steric copolymer formed by mm, mr, and rr triads.  相似文献

Electrochemical characteristics of single cell performances at various humidity conditions and constant temperatures of 40?100 °C using membrane electrode assemblies (MEAs) were studied. The MEAs consist of alternative proton-conducting hybrid membrane electrolyte and noble Pt/C catalyst for the H2/O2 proton exchange membrane fuel cells (PEMFCs). The function of humidity on the cell performances was investigated at larger current density values of 501 mA cm?2 and constant cell temperatures of 80 and 90 °C and the relative humidity of 100 %. The power density value of 400 mW cm?2 was obtained when the same MEA at similar operating conditions was used. The effects of temperature on the single cell performances were investigated at various temperature ranges of 40–100 °C and constant relative humidity of 50, 70, and 100 %. The maximum current density and power density values of about 600 mA cm?2 and 160 mW cm?2, respectively, were obtained at 90 °C with 100 % RH. The results were compared with the reported results of Nafion membrane and similar hybrid membranes operating at low temperatures for H2/O2 fuel cells. Finally, the results provided an alternative proton-conducting electrolyte as promising candidate for low/intermediate temperature operating H2/O2 fuel cells.  相似文献
