Given a fixed point free antianalytic involution k of a domain G in thecomplex plane, bounded by a finite number of analytic curves, k-invariant Greensfunctions are defined on G. The Lindelöfs principle is extended to k-invariantGreens functions. When G is the annulus, k-invariant Greens functions areobtained in the explicit form. Since the factorization of the annulus by the group kgenerated by k produces a Möbius strip, the respective result helped us to obtain explicitforms for Greens functions on the Möbius strip.  相似文献

In this paper we show the connection between Sobolev orthogonal Laurent polynomials on the unit circle and Sobolev orthogonal polynomials on a bounded interval of the real line. As a consequence we deduce the strong outer asymptotics for Sobolev orthogonal polynomials with respect to the inner product

The most famous open problem involving domination in graphs is Vizings conjecture which states the domination number of the Cartesian product of any two graphs is at least as large as the product of their domination numbers. In this paper, we investigate a similar problem for total domination. In particular, we prove that the product of the total domination numbers of any nontrivial tree and any graph without isolated vertices is at most twice the total domination number of their Cartesian product, and we characterize the extremal graphs.Research supported in part by the South African National Research Foundation and the University of KwaZulu-Natal  相似文献

Group theoretical constructions usually terminate in the problem to decide whether two groups are isomorphic. In the case of arbitrary finite groups the calculation of ordinary group characters is not sufficient to decide about it. R. Brauer posed the problem, to find suitable additional group invariants. Applying the theory of norm-type forms of associative algebras, specialized to group algebras, we found, that the 1-, 2-, and 3-characters in the nonmodular case (with some restrictions on the characteristic), especially over the field of complex numbers, are necessary and sufficient for the finite groups. This sharpens a recent result of E. Formanek and D. Sibley on group determinants. Detailed proofs will be given elsewhere. Here we give an overview on recent related results and add a remark concerning calculations in the modular group case.  相似文献

Given a family of real-valued functions defined in a normed vector space X, we study a class of -convex functions having a simpler representation for the --subdifferential. The case =X* with X being a Banach space (the Fenchel case) is particularly analysed, and we find that the sublinear lower semicontinuous functions satisfy the simpler representation with respect to X*. As a side result, we provide various new subdifferential-type charaterizations of positively homogeneous functions among those which are lower semicontinuous and convex. In addition, we also discuss that family related to the the so-called prox-bounded functions. Let G be a transitive permutation group on a set and m a positive integer. If | – | m for every subset of and all g G, then || 2mp/(p – 1) where p is the least odd prime dividing |G|. It was shown by Mann and Praeger [13] that, for p = 3, the 3-groups G which attain this bound have exponent p. We establish the existence of extreme solutions for a class of nonlinear second-order evolution inclusions with a nonconvex right-hand side defined on an evolution triple of Banach spaces. Then we show that extreme solutions which belong to the solution set of the original system are in fact dense and codense in the solution set of a system with a convexified right-hand side. The necessary and sufficient conditions for closedness of the solution set for the original system in an appropriate spaces of functions are given as well. Finally, an example of a nonlinear hyperbolic distributed parameter system is worked out in detail.  相似文献

The existence of Silnikov‘s orbits in a four-dimensional dynamical system is discussed. The existence of Silnikov‘s orbit resulting in chaotic dynamics is established by the fiber structure of invariant manifold and high-dimensional Melnikov method. We discuss a classical result in planar projective geometry known as Steiners theorem involving 12 interlocking applications of Pappus theorem. We prove the following Whitney estimate. Given 0 < p \le \infty, r \in N, and d \ge 1, there exists a constant C(d,r,p), depending only on the three parameters, such that for every bounded convex domain \subset Rd, and each function f \in Lp(), Er-1(f,)p \le C(d,r,p)r(f, diam())p, where Er-1(f,)p is the degree of approximation by polynomials of total degree, r – 1, and r(f,·)p is the modulus of smoothness of order r. Estimates like this can be found in the literature but with constants that depend in an essential way on the geometry of the domain, in particular, the domain is assumed to be a Lipschitz domain and the above constant C depends on the minimal head-angle of the cones associated with the boundary. The estimates we obtain allow us to extend to the multivariate case, the results on bivariate Skinny B-spaces of Karaivanov and Petrushev on characterizing nonlinear approximation from nested triangulations. In a sense, our results were anticipated by Karaivanov and Petrushev.  相似文献

In this paper, Newmark time-stepping scheme and edge elements are used to numerically solve the time-dependent scattering problem in a three-dimensional cavity. Finite element methods based on the variational formulation derived in [23] are considered. Due to the lack of regularity of r , the existence and uniqueness of the discrete solutions and their convergence are proved by using the concept of collectively compact operators.
